In 1805, Vasily Bazhenov’s student, architect Ivan Egotov, built three bridges across a dry ravine: Bolshoy, Maly and Third grotesque. All of them were made of red brick, and white stone was used for decoration - Myachkovsky limestone. Unhewn stone was used for cladding all the bridges, which is reflected in the names “grostesque”, that is, wild, rough. By the end of the 19th century, the stone parapet of the Great Bridge collapsed and was not restored until the 1960s. The next restoration took place in 2007. The Great Grotesque Bridge is recognized as an architectural monument.
