Amazing place to visit in every season. Lot of ancient buildings and astonishing slight seeing places for left and right bank of Danube.

Awesome place. A must visit when in Budapest. Magnificent views of the city, the river, and the parliament. The architecture is awesome. It can be a bit crowded, and expect high prices in the restaurants. There's nice green spots to walk around and spend some time there too. Better to go during the week to avoid the masses of tourists. I went during the day, but it must be very beautiful during the night as well.

This is definitely a must if you are in Budapest. With magnificent castle, hill, church, the whole complex is just so impressive beautiful. The church itself is very impressive. If you are in the area, ensure to walk all the way to the end for the spectacular church and the Fisherman's Bastion. You can have great view of Budapest parliament from here too. Highly highly recommended!

A very interesting part of Budapest. Lots of things to see. The Budapest card is highly recommended if you're doing just a one day visit. It saves lots of walking.

Fantastic architecture and a view across the danube. You can access the battlements for free and there's a man playing the accordion 🪗 and an artist and places to eat, nice ice cream. Super clean looking but get the electric car to the top as the funicular arrives too far away. More scenery on the car to see going up, 3000 each for all day long hop on and off. Across the backside is the hospital in the rock.

One of the best things about visiting Budapest is that it is so unique. It has a unique history, a unique culture, and unique architecture. I especially loved exploring the Castle District. The streets are so pretty and you can tell that this is where the rich people used to live. One of my favourite things about visiting Budapest is how unique it is. Its history, culture and architecture are all very unique. I especially loved exploring the Castle District. This is a must see when visiting Budapest. The buildings in the area make you feel as though you've travelled through time and landed in a medieval fantasy. Plus it offers some of the most spectacular views of the city. Side comment: the chimney cake sold here are about 5 times more expensive than other areas, so do yourself a favour and grab one from any of many the underground stations in the city.

Currently a major construction site. A head of government is erecting a monument here, even though there are already enough of them there unnecessarily.

The most historic and breath taking part of town. Don't miss the center : Fisherman's Bastion and Matthew church, but be sure to visit the two extremes of the plateau, on one end the castle itself with the historic museum, and on the other, the tower, only recently reopened and the highest point of view in the city.

Budapest is one of the best places and Buda Castle is not just an excellently build facade, it also provides a clear and distant few of the Danube, the parliament, chain bridge and other significant spots of Budapest. All visitors should essentially visit this place. One can just sit there and gaze at the beautiful city. It is huge at the same time calm.

One more wonderful memory from Budapest You can accumulate by going to the Fisherman Bastion and Castle District 🏰 Located on picturesque hill it is giving You the opportunity to explore the city from birds’ eye view 🦅 Beautiful Matthias Church ⛪️ what once was a Mosque 🕌 will mesmerise You by its beautiful architecture and interior. I advise You to walk around and explore the Castle district with it’s beautiful corners, views, cosy shops, caffès and restaurants. ♥️

There are so many things to say about this district. I really suggest taking the small bus that brings you to the main 4 attractions of this part of the city, it's cheap and useful. The view to Pest is stunning and the presence of the immense Parliament will accompany you during all your visits. If possible choose a sunny day for the best experience.

Lots of historical places to visit museums and attractions are cheap to enter, the entire district is really accessible as there is parking in it, there are 🚌 tours etc. Souvenirs are affordable. Would definitely suggest paying ticket for church and tower (be aware there are 200 steps to top and stairs are narrow, not for everyone)

Stunning place. A must-visit when in Budapest. Breathtaking views of the city, the river, and the parliament. The architecture is flawless. I highly recommend a guided tour to learn about its history. Once you are on top of the hill the view to the Pest side of the city is an absolute joy to the eye.

The Castle District is a must see if you visit Budepest. The views are enchanting and mystical as the fog rolls in and out! There is a charge at Fisherman's bastion to view from the upper terraces. The lower terraces are free and have very similar views. Most half day tours take you to both Heros Square and Castle Hill...and drop you off to wander on your own for only about an hour in each place. If you want to plan more of a full day and take your time to stroll the parks and feel less rushed, you can always call a taxi ( or have a hotel call a taxi for you if you don't have an app) for your return trip. You will be glad you spent the 10.00 on avg. extra cab fare for the time to see the beautiful extras the locals enjoy on the Buda side. Don't miss the Buda Castle (a.k.a. The Royal Palace), the Labyrinth of Buda Castle, Mathias Church and the Maison Bistro ( a very nice place to stay and eat). The Buda side starts closing down after 6 p.m. so try to see the Palace first ( it's also closed on Monday). Tour the fisherman's bastion area and the castle district area after all the tourists leave.

It is one of the most unique and beautiful castle districts in the world. Full of amazing historical places, great restaurants, cafés and sweatshops. Almost always, there is some entertainment going on. And at many spots, it provides a breathtaking view to the city. It is worthy to spend there a few hours and just to get lost on the streets.

Castle District on the Buda side of Budapest. You can get there by walking up the hill, or taking the funicular partially up (10 euro in 2023) or take the electric golf cart Bus Tour (14 euro) and it takes you to 4 stops , all which have something to see. Well worth it. We stopped for a drink at stop number 1 . Beautiful fortress There is also a restaurant. The two are separate, the bar is the higher one. Spectacular virews from both. You can only enter if you are a customer. Bathrooms available only for customers here. Worth visiting while I'm Budapest.

It is a beautiful place, which you have to see if you are in Budapest. It is covered in a morning or afternoon. The fishermen's bastion is spectacular and exploring the typical little streets is the best. The best are the views. It is worth it at sunset, when you can appreciate the city and then see the Congress illuminated. In autumn it is very beautiful because of the colors of the trees.

An absolutely beautiful part to visit! We went up on the Castle bus as part of the Budapest Card which was a cute little journey. You can get on and off at different areas as it's actually quite big and there's a lot to see! I would set a day aside for the whole area. There are different buildings you can go in which cost extra depending, so do a bit of research and planning beforehand. It was so nice there we ended up going twice!

The Castle District encompasses Castle Hill (Várhegy) – nerve centre of Budapest’s history and packed with many of the capital’s most important museums and other attractions – as well as ground-level Víziváros (Watertown). What the latter lacks in sights it makes up for in excellent restaurants, many of them around Széll Kálmán tér, a major transport hub and the centre of urban Buda. Major changes are afoot, as the government aims to consolidate Castle Hill as the seat of power, and the Hungarian National Gallery is eventually due to move to a purpose-built facility in City Park.

What an amazing church. Simply stunning. The architecture is incredible and the ceramic roof tiles lend the building an amazing finishing touch. The mounted statue of at Stephen is beautiful and the views over Pest from the fortified wall are stunning. You can get great photos up and down the river with all the bridges from here.

Most definitely worth a visit, many places to see and experience, would recommend taking the funicular it adds to the whole atmosphere. So try to resist the shuttle bus sellers, they’re all around here, especially at the end of the chain bridge.

Great place to visit for all the lovely landmarks. Museums, castle, gallery, architecture...it has it all and to cap it off...breathtaking views of the city. Definitely get the little city bus golf cart type transport. For 8 euro it takes you all around...hop on and off as many times as you like, it goes round in a big circle of the area dropping at the major landmarks.

Must visit place in Budapest. It is now under heavy maintenance. Lot of construction work going on. However, it is very well maintained and accessibility options are good. You have escalators, elevators, and a funicular train to reach up. At a couple of places there are guide maps. Still very few directional signs. Once on the top, it offers very good views of the Danube River and parliament building across. The famous chain bridge was also under maintenance and wrapped . We could not visit Labyrinth due to paucity of time.

One of the most beautiful places in Budapest. Art gallery in the palace was a great surprise for us. To tell the truth I have known nothing about Hungarian art. But they have amazing artists. Especially I liked 18-19 century. Highly recommended to visit 👍

Absolutely stunning. We took the Funicular up to watch the sunset on the hill. The views are incredible and the buildings are all gorgeous. Although most of the hill has been rebuilt the buildings are very in keeping with the city's architecture and unless you knew this, you probably would not know! It was quite busy in the evening but not so busy that you couldn't get some pictures. We walked across for sunrise and it was practically empty and the morning light across the city skyline is beautiful. Highly recommend a morning trip up to avoid the crowds! A must do in Budapest

  • 4/5 Sanjaykumar V. 1 year ago on Google
If you're planning a trip to Budapest, make sure to add this place to your itinerary. It's an absolute must-visit for its stunning views of the city, the river, and the parliament. The architecture is awe-inspiring and you can easily spend hours here taking it all in. However, it's important to note that the area can get quite crowded, especially during peak tourist season. If you're looking for a more serene experience, it's best to visit during the week to avoid the masses of tourists. In terms of food and drinks, be prepared to pay a bit more than usual. The restaurants and cafes in the area can be quite pricey, but the views they offer make up for it. If you're on a budget, there are plenty of green spaces around where you can bring a picnic and enjoy the scenery. I visited during the day, but I can only imagine how stunning it would be during the night as well. It's a popular spot for evening strolls, so if you're looking for a romantic or picturesque setting, this place won't disappoint. Overall, I highly recommend adding this spot to your itinerary when visiting Budapest. Whether you're interested in architecture, photography, or simply enjoying breathtaking views, this place has something to offer for everyone.

Was a great place to spend a day wandering around. We got a shuttle which took us uphill and had 4 locations where you could get on or off. Usually you can get a funicular to top but it was out for maintenance. Saw the castle and changing of guards, Also found tower which we climbed to top of and had amazing views. Beautiful church to go inside for a break away from the crowds of people.

  • 5/5 shashank w. 1 year ago on Google
Super Amazing view at night. You have to climb a little to reach there but the view on river and Parliament visual is worth it, specially at night. Parliament is lighted in yellow lights which gives a golden look from castle. The church here has amazing thin work on it which looks really nice. Roof is with covered with beautiful coloured tiles worth to take few minutes and have a look. Overall atmosphere is so chill.

We walked (climbed) up to the castle complex many times during our 3 weeks in Budapest. Not only is it good exercise, but it's just a lovely, vibrant, clean, safe, place to walk around. The views are delectable!

The old town of Buda with all the famous sights, like the Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, Mattias Church, Sandor Palace and stunning views over Budapest. While these sights are stunning, make sure to wander the pretty old narrow streets admiring the old architecture and pretty buildings…

Great views. Card is accepted for payment to see the inside of the cathedral or the upper levels of the bastion walls. If not it is free to walk around. Not worth paying for the upper walls of the bastion, walk 10 minutes to the buda castle and get the same views for free

Castle district give you amazing views of the Budapest from up on the hill. The castle and surrounding area is great to explore. It is incredible to see how much restoration and rebuilding they have underway to make it even better.

Well maintained, and a must see when you visit budapest. Superb views of budapest and extremely well maintained and preserved statues and castle and surrounding area. Best to visit on a weekday and early in the morning before the tour buses arrive. Also, it can get a bit uncomfortable in the sun later in the day.

A must see if you are in Budapest. It’s great to visit during the day and night. Pure beautiful churches and castles. We enjoyed just walking around and took some amazing pictures.

Must do, must see. Put your comfortable walking shoes on and spend the whole day exploring this district. Please note that the venucular ride is not included in The Budapest Card (although the documentation advises it is) but the castle tour bus is as are the museums. The views are amazing. Not to be missed.

Stunning. The best time to wander about here is in the evenings. You can catch a Castle Bus from the bottom of the hill to Fisherman's Bastion, from where it's a couple of flights of stairs to the castle district. The castle itself is a pleasant walk down the line from Matthias Church.

Armin is beautiful and historically interesting. Worth a visit, there is a view of the Danube and the Pest area. 17. A nice place to sit, a bar or a cafe. Accessible services in the gallery are free with a purchase invoice at a bar or cafe. Do not miss there is a lot to walk uphill there are escalators and an elevator.

It’s quite beautiful up here. The trees here make the views better, and interrupt them at the same time. We didn’t go into the museum, so it was just kind of hike up all the steps, look around and say “Yup it’s pretty.” And walk back down.

Lovely area of Budapest at the top of the hill. I would suggest you get one of the buses (e.g. 16/216) unless you are superfit. There is the castle (more like a palace), lots of great views and places like the House of Houdini and the Labyrinth. It's also just a lovely old area to wander round

Historical site, still being reconstructed to its heyday before 1945. Restorations done well, but still very much underway, meaning lots.of scaffolding at present which interferes with the overall impression. An excellent view of the city available from the ramparts. We were fortunate to be there to see the process of changing the guard (on the hour).

The castle district is as name suggests, a complete fort which is on top of hill. Very huge and amazing area to explore. There are many amazing places here which you can explore. There is local bus which goes through this district so better consider it instead of hiking.

St Matthias church may be one of the best cathedrals I’ve visited. Decked out for Christmas, its gilded interiors with beautiful painted walls did not disappoint. Don’t miss the museum tour upstairs to get a Birds Eye view!

Great place to go and walk around the castle district. There are museums, houses and a church to visit. You have to buy a ticket to enter the church. There is a Christmas market during the holiday season.
