Plaza
Italia
is
a
small
park
in
Palermo
neighborhood
of
the
city
of
Buenos
Aires
which
can
easily
be
reached
by
metro
station
of
the
same
name.
Next
to
the
plaza
are
the
main
entrances
to
the
Zoo
and
the
Botanical
Gardens.
The
area
is
hub
of
traffic
and
busy
life.
It
is
in
fact,
entrance
to
the
green
belt
of
BA
which
leads
to
a
large
number
of
parks
and
green
spaces.
In
the
center
of
the
park
of
the
same
name,
there
is
an
equestrian
statue
of
Giuseppe
Garibaldi,
which
opened
in
1904.
Giuseppe
Garibaldi
(1807–1882)
was
an
Italian
military
and
political
figure.
He
is
considered
the
"Hero
of
the
Two
Worlds"
in
tribute
to
his
military
expeditions
in
both
South
America
and
Europe.
On
the
corner
of
the
Plaza
and
the
Exposition
Center
there
is
a
Roman
column,
original
from
the
Roman
Forum,
donated
by
the
city
of
Rome.
More
than
2,000
years
old,
it
is
one
of
the
oldest
monument
in
the
city.
