A very good place for beautiful photos and backdrops. Children will enjoy a lot running round and round. There are a number of eateries outside the place. This fort is very nice and one can visit this along with the light house which ia near by. There is entry fees to enter the place and one can explore the place by walking everywhere. There are different spots to view different views and one can spend their time watching them and clicking pictures. It is a huge fort with lots of apace in the middle.A historical monument. Neatly maintained. The place is in a small hill and can be visited only through vehicle. The place has an entry fees of Rs.25 per head. The view at this place makes this a must visit place in Goa. There is a jail and a lighthouse nearby. The place is a beautiful place to visit sunset.

The fort is an immense knowledge book. But as any historical place it needs time and a good guide. If you are running short of time, you may not like the fort and it's surroundings. The surrounding area needs 3-6 hours to explore depending on your fitness level. The fort takes about an hour to roam at peace . The water cooler was not working during my time. Their are plenty of food stalls outside to take care for your food, water and juices. You will need to walk and in the sun it can be really hot. The fort is divided in various sectors. The vehicle reaches only the top part. For the other sector one needs to trek around. Best time to trek is early in the morning just before sunrise. Best time to visit the lighthouse which is next to fort is evening. Also, consider the parking for two wheeler’s is 50/-.

Aguada Fort offers a captivating blend of history and scenic beauty. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the Arabian Sea in Goa, India, this 17th-century fortress impresses with its robust architecture and panoramic views. The well-preserved lighthouse and the freshwater Aguada Spring within the fort add to its charm. Whether you're a history enthusiast or seeking a picturesque spot, Aguada Fort delivers a memorable experience. However, limited signage and information might leave some visitors craving more historical context. Overall, a must-visit destination for those exploring Goa's rich heritage.

Nice view of Arabian sea and greenery around. A must visit place while in Goa. The place is very pleasant and marvelous and scenic. One of the highlights of Aguada Fort is undoubtedly the breathtaking sunset it offers. As the sun slowly dips below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, it creates a mesmerizing spectacle that is nothing short of magical. It's an ideal spot for couples seeking a romantic evening or photographers looking to capture nature's beauty at its finest. A nicely maintained fort + lighthouse that provides both different experience during summer and monsoon. During monsoon don't carry umbrella as winds are too strong to break it apart. Crowds can be expected during most of the days...but there is not much to see here as most of the underground gates are locked. The ticket counter people are quick.

Aguada Fort in Goa is a historical marvel that offers a captivating glimpse into the region's past. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the Arabian Sea, the fort provides stunning panoramic views. The well-preserved architecture, including the iconic lighthouse, adds to the charm. Walking through the centuries-old walls feels like stepping back in time, and the cannons overlooking the sea evoke a sense of the fort's strategic importance. Aguada Fort is a must-visit for history buffs and anyone seeking a blend of cultural exploration and scenic beauty in the vibrant landscape of Goa.

The place is good for photography. Would rate it a 3 star out of 5 for the below reasons - 1. Non cooperative staff 2. Parking is given to a Contractor who doesn't behave well 3. Only cash is the payment option. They have the QR code for UPI payment, but it doesn't work. The parking fee is ₹50 for 2 wheelers and ₹100 for 4 wheelers. The entry fee to the fort is ₹25 per person and for foreigners it's ₹300. Children below the age of 15 have free entry.

I recently visited Aguada Fort, and I must say it left a lasting impression on me. The first thing that struck me was how impeccably clean and beautiful the fort was. The pristine condition of this historical site added to its charm. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the mesmerizing sea view. The fort offers a stunning panoramic view of the sea, which is a sight to behold. However, it's worth noting that the popularity of this destination does make it a bit crowded, so be prepared for that. The journey to reach the fort is an adventure in itself. The scenic route leading up to Aguada Fort is nothing short of breathtaking, and I highly recommend capturing the moment with a few pictures. Spending time at Aguada Fort was a delight. It's not just a historical site; it's an experience. I found myself immersed in its history and beauty. It's safe to say that I fell in love with this place. Aguada Fort is undeniably a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the area.

Fort Aguada Goa is a historical and scenic attraction that offers a glimpse of the Portuguese era in India. The fort was built in 1612 to protect the coast from the Dutch and other invaders. It also served as a watering station for the ships that sailed from Europe. The fort has a lighthouse, a moat, a water storage chamber, a gunpowder room, and a secret escape passage. The fort is located on a hill overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Sinquerim Beach. The view from the fort is stunning and serene. The fort is open to visitors from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm every day. The entry fee is ₹30 and there are guides available to explain the history and architecture of the fort. The fort is well-maintained and clean. There are some stalls outside the fort selling snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. Fort Aguada Goa is a must-visit place for anyone who loves history, culture, and nature. It is a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset and take some amazing photos. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable experience in Goa. Don’t miss to take water bottles, hat and sun glasses to beat the heat.

Aguada Fort in Goa is really cool! The old building and the awesome sea view make it a must-see. It's like stepping back in time and learning about Goa's history. Whether you're into history or just want a cool spot for photos, Agauda Fort is the place to go. Super fun and interesting! Suggest to go in the evening and see the sunset here.

Nice old Fort. Worth seeing if your staying in the area, not worth a huge drive. Neat walls with moat. Not really any artifacts around. Pretty good view. 300 Ruppees per foreign adult. Kids under 15 free. Drinking water free inside on filtered taps.

Must visit!! Add it to your check list when you plan to visit Goa! Amazing viewpoints and gentle breeze gives you a very calm feeling. You can experience History in it's raw form. Tickets are cheap and affordable. Parking charges are excluding ticket prices. Snacks and water is available outside the fort near parking. The view is absolutely breathtaking and you can experience it live. Location is nearby famous beaches and you can reach there by renting a two wheeler or four wheeler. Best time to visit- evening time. A place which can be recommended to family, friends, couples, solo travelers etc.

Best place. A jail turned into museum. It gives an insight into Goa's history and cultures from the same prison cells where freedom fighters were held captive. They have nice, fun and interactive way of educating people. If in Goa you need to visit this place once to know more of Goa's history and culture

Timings The Fort Aguada is open all days of the week from 9.30am to 6.00pm. How to reach here. There are two options to reach the hilltop fort. The 4 km long road from Sinquerim beach is used by motor vehicles. The other is a shorter 2 km foot path, but it should be noted that it is a steep climb. Fort Aguada is a well-preserved seventeenth-century Portuguese fort, along with a lighthouse, standing in Goa, India, on Sinquerim Beach, overlooking the Arabian Sea. There was a large bell on the lighthouse which was found in the ruins of Saint Augustus monastery in Old Goa. It is named for the fresh water spring that gives the fort a constant supply of potable water, ‘agua’ being the Portuguese word for water and ‘Aguada’ signifying a place where water is collected. So well built and fiercely armed was this fort that it has never fallen into enemy hands.

Fort Aguada is a must-visit destination in Goa, offering a captivating journey into history amidst breathtaking surroundings. While previously admission was free, the recent implementation of an entry fee reflects a trend of over-monetizing attractions in the region. Nevertheless, the fort remains a remarkable spot, providing visitors with a profound connection to the past and stunning views of its surroundings.

Last time I visited this place there was no proper walking pathway or ticketing or parking system and this was 10.years back. But recently it has been developed and maintained very nicely. Must visit for a sunset view. But nothing much inside the fort but can be part of a to do list. The drive to this place is pleasant and it's uphil. Walking is not recommended. Parking is 50 bucks for a bike and 30 bucks entry per person. Closes at 6PM sharp.

Its a Portuguese Fort along with a Light house. It gives a lovely view of Arabian sea and ships, yachts passing by. Its quite near to Sinquerim Beach. Its one of the mandate place to visit if you are visiting North Goa. If you are in long holiday then prefer evening time to visit here. These are pictures taken before Covid. Due to Government guidelines of Covid, the place remains mostly closed nowadays.

Aguada Fort offers splendid views from the top, allowing you to see the sea in all its beauty. I recommend bringing an umbrella, as a cap or hat may not provide sufficient shade from the intense sunlight. Despite the heat, the fort is definitely worth a visit

It's nice but not practically worth the money they are asking for tickets. The fort is nice but just normal, nothing extraordinary to be honest. The old light house looks good and an ancient structural attraction. However, the modern new light house is recommended to visit even more, as it's perfectly functioning and just beside the fort. If you're traveling a very long distance just to cover this fort. I'd say "No, not really" ... Truly quite overrated. And yes get something in the food stalls in front of the fort, if and only if it's absolutely necessary, as the prices are unethically surged for no reason at all.

Small fort of historical importance. Beautiful views of sea from the fort. One level down was a jail in Portuguese rule. Lighthouse is very photogenic. Recommend to visit early morning and evening though it doesn't open by sunrise and closes by sunset. Day time in summers is hot.

The main thing people need to know is about the tickets. A 20 rs ticket is charged per person which can be obtained only online due to covid times. You also have to pay for parking your 2 wheeler (50 rs)or 4 wheeler. Due to network issues near the fort its difficult to pay and u might waste half an hour . Its open till 6 pm. So book your tickets well in advance. About the view , its ultimate. You can enjoy the sunset from here too.

The fort is temporarily closed right now due to covid 19 restrictions. So didn't get the chance to vist it actually but there is a trail that leads to the edge of mountain that gives you mesmerizing views. Would definitely go there again for the views from the trail. The trek will even lead you to lower aguada and aguada caves.

A real fort with all history in it. A place which is so crowded. 50 for the bike parking and 50 for entry ticket. Walk few hundred meters and Viola there's the fort. A vast big fort which is designed so good, a built in watch tower, a big underground jail which both will be closed and not for civilians. Enjoy the view around, you'll miss a beat. There's a fully functional light house nearby which restrict entry for us. Best to see at 11 at morning or after 3 by evening Wonderful fort built by the Portuguese for watering the ships and also for irrigation purpose . Now a monument ... Could have been great if it was given little more care and maintenance ... Good to visit at least once ... Scenic beauty is also a great advantage.

The fort can be maintained well by archeological department. Ticket counter is fine. There can be a guided tour or information about the fort or rooms at many places instead of just 2/3 places. Toilets are too high for children and the flush does not work. Plus no tissue papers to dry hands.

Another fort that was like a viewpoint with not many structures standing inside the fort walls. But the view of the panjim mainland is beautiful from here. Timings are till 6pm so make sure you reach there 2hrs before to spend enough time inside. It costs Rs 25 per person to enter. You have enough places to eat just outside the fort.

fort was good and not much crowded this time. Construction work for betterment is happening so hopefully it will be good place to visit down the line. Few scenic points where you can capture really nice pictures. Old fort with his history is described in few places. Kids also enjoyed walking around the fort. Its not too big or too small to spend couple of hours. Food stalls are just out side the fort entrance which helps to stay hydrated.

Aguada Fort, a 1612 Portuguese fortress located in Goa, is a historic landmark that offers visitors a glimpse into the state's rich cultural past. The fort, which is situated on a hilltop overlooking the Arabian Sea, provides sweeping ocean views and a fascinating look at Goa's colonial history. One of the things that immediately stands out about Aguada Fort is its size. The fort is quite large and features a variety of structures, including a lighthouse that was erected in 1864. Although the fort is in a state of disrepair, it is still an impressive structure that is worth exploring. However, despite its size and historical significance, there is not much to see at Aguada Fort. Most of the structures are in ruins, and there are few exhibits or artifacts to explain the history of the fort. The abandoned lighthouse is also off-limits to visitors, which is disappointing. Visitors must pay an entry fee of 25 rupees for Indians and 100 rupees for foreigners to access the fort. While the fee is not particularly high, some visitors may feel that it is not worth the cost given the lack of things to see. One of the highlights of Aguada Fort is the stunning view of the Arabian Sea from the hilltop. You can see the water from the fort, and the view is particularly breathtaking at sunset. This makes the fort a popular spot for photographers and tourists looking to take in the natural beauty of the region. Overall, Aguada Fort is an interesting historical site that provides a glimpse into Goa's colonial past. While the lack of exhibits and the state of disrepair may be disappointing for some visitors, the stunning views of the ocean and the natural beauty of the region make it worth a visit for those interested in history and architecture.

Lovely fort, fantastic view over the bay. Downside, they will ask you where do you coming from and if they decide it's a wealthy country your ticket price rocketing pretty quick. On top you'll pay for parking - there's no parking lot and obviously space for parking 😂 Good old trick.... Toilets are reasonably clean (female side a bit under estimated in cabin numbers I've heard 😉) Only local street food outside the fort.

The Aguada lighthouse is definitely worth visiting, it will take a maximum of an hour depending on the time of your visit. We visited in peak summer post lunch, it was scorching hot. But we had good time as the heat was tolerable and we were equipped to beat the heat. The Fort is open at 9:30 am to 6:30 pm on all days of the week, its well maintained and during our visit the garden landscaping was in progress, which looked promising. The fort also features a high tower or citadel and apparently there is a secret passage running from the tower down through the fort, which we didn't get a chance to explore. What was intriguing was the name of the fort, 'Aguada' meaning watery in Portuguese, and apparently there was/is a fresh water spring on the location which was source of water for the sailors during 1600s. Fascinating!

The aguada fort is must visit place. It will take around an hour depending on time of visit. You can see the best view of north goa from here. The fort itself is well-preserved and offers a glimpse into the region's rich history. The architecture of the fort is impressive, and the views of the Arabian Sea from the top of the fort are stunning. One of the main highlights of the fort is the lighthouse, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. The lighthouse is accessible via a short climb, and the views from the top are definitely worth the effort. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to Fort Aguada for anyone interested in history or architecture. The fort is well-maintained, and the surrounding area is also quite beautiful. It's a great way to spend a few hours learning about the history of Goa and enjoying some breathtaking views.

Excellent place if the weather allows it to be. The place has its own simple history, but the local guides seemed to make things up, including calling a water tank an underground jail. This is only worth a visit for the great view of the sea. I went on a weekday, so it wasn't very crowded. Wear your hats & caps, because there isn't any shade inside the fort premises so it can get really hot. Overheard a bunch of tourists regretting visiting the place in October and wondering if they should've come in December. You also need to club Fort Aguada with a bunch of other activities around the area (which I did), because exploring the fort takes about 20-30 minutes max. And unless you get lucky with pleasant weather, or carry a massive picnic umbrella, you really can't spend more time than that.

Entrance fees are Rs. 25. Entrance is free for kids less than 15 years. We need to walk some distance from the ticket counter. 2 places ticket will be checked. It's one of the oldest forts somewhere during the 16th century. The archeological department is trying to maintain this place well. We can take pics from different places of this fort. I will post photos that show the history of this fort for all your references. It's well built construction and strong enough. Constructed by using big stones. A person who is interested in seeing Fort can visit here.

Aguada fort located in Candolim Goa. We rode around 35+ km to reach the destination and came to know that Online Booking is mandatory for fort entry. (May be due to Covid), but worst part is you may not get proper(Jio and Airtel). We almost wasted 1Hr for that. Fort location is beautiful and breadth taking Sea view (Sinquerim Beach). Just considering fort it’s an average visiting place, huge but simple fort. It has lighthouse inside the fort.

The authorities are useless at the ticket counter and are very rude and arrogant to the tourists. They make us to buy entry tickets online (asi.payumoney.com) and there's no absolute network in that area where we have to struggle to buy the tickets standing outside in the crowd. It took me nearly 30 minutes to get the confirmation of the entry ticket and staffs are too rude and do not even respect the ladies. The place is OK and could have been neat and its not worthy to wait outside and struggle to pay the ticket standing for that long. Goa Government, teach your staffs to be polite to the the tourists and hire educated people!

One of the best tourist attractions in Goa. The fort closes by 6pm and ticket booking closes by 5pm. Due to covid the entry ticket booking is done via a QR code, you would need to scan and book your own tickets.Airtel coverage is extremely bad on the hill. You are forced to pay the parking fee of 100rs for cars even before you book your tickets, so please keep that in mind. You can book up to 5 Adults by scanning once.

The main problem.you will face here is the ENTRY Ticket. We need to scan a QR code and fill in the Entrant's details and Pay online. The main problem here is, there is No Proper Network in that area. Airtel...Jio does not work. Many people returned back because of this problem(including me). NOTE: We cannot scan the QR code from Phonepe, Google pay etc. We need to scan from Normal QR scanner, then it will open us a link, from that we need to fill in the details and Pay (Try paying).

  • 4/5 Syed Sajjad S. 3 years ago on Google
The place is quite good and descent. The only confusion almost every visitor had was related to the entry fee. On spot we got to know that entry fee should be made online via the link provided. The main challenging part was to get network out there as all the networks are out of reach and luckily somehow I found a spot where I got my network and we registered and paid the entry fees online immediately. Just a suggestion: There should be one offline helpdesk where people can pay to get entry and visit the fort instead of wasting time to get the network outside. Overall, the view from inside is really good and it is well maintained. Kudos 👍👍

So the crowd you see outside the gate is people trying to scan qr code and book tickets to enter inside. Problem is there is hardly any network and people are seen scrambling to book tickets. Can't there be a single counter for spot booking. Nobody is bothered and visitors are left to fend for themselves. So book your tickets online on asi website and then proceed.

Its a Portuguese Fort alongside a Light house. It gives a dazzling perspective on Arabian ocean and boats, yachts cruising by. Its very close to Sinquerim Beach. Its one of the command spot to visit in case you are visiting North Goa. On the off chance that you are in extended vacation, lean toward evening time to visit here. These are pictures taken before Covid. Because of Government rules of Covid, the spot remains generally shut these days.

Do visit this place. Not because movies were shot here, but the view is epic. Also has a church on the way. Parking is near the helipad and costs 100. Tickets to the fort are 25 per person. The lighthouse is being painted currently. Try to reach before 10 AM to avoid rush.

  • 3/5 Rijin T. 2 years ago on Google
The fort has beautiful and eye catching views with miles and miles of sea to treat your eyes. The fort itself is not that interesting in my opinion. Besides it's architecture and a good view of the ocean, there's nothing much there. It feels empty for some reason yet satisfactory. The parking costs and the entry fees are something I feel is overpriced, so lowering the cost would do justice to the visitors.

It's a Portuguese fort in a hill with good view of the beach on one side. It also has a old lighthouse which is abandoned now and a huge water storage tank built by the Portuguese. It's better to avoid this place on weekends as it could get very crowded and also better to plan in the mornings or evenings as afternoons here are usually pretty hot!! After visiting this place don't miss the lower Aguada fort.

Aguada Fort and Jail are historic landmarks located in Goa, India. Aguada Fort, built in the 17th century, is a beautiful piece of architecture that boasts stunning views of the Arabian Sea. It is a perfect place to visit for anyone interested in history or architecture. The fort is well-maintained and provides an impressive backdrop for photo opportunities. The lighthouse and the ramparts offer breathtaking views of the sea, which makes it an ideal place for a sunset walk or a picnic. The fort also has a small museum that showcases the history of the area, which is informative and interesting. The nearby Aguada Jail is another fascinating historical site. The jail is now a museum, and it offers a glimpse into the harsh realities of colonial times. The prison cells are a sobering reminder of the inhumane treatment of prisoners in the past, and the exhibits provide a comprehensive overview of the prison's history. Overall, Aguada Fort and Jail are two must-visit historical sites in Goa. The fort's beautiful architecture and stunning views are a treat for visitors, and the museum inside the jail offers a glimpse into the area's dark past. I highly recommend visiting these sites for anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a unique and memorable experience in Goa.

An epitome of Portuguese heritage and architecture, this seventeenth-century fort definitely deserves to be on your itinerary when you head out of your hotels in Goa for a sightseeing trip. Looking for more details about this heritage monument which was once among the most formidable Portuguese forts in Goa? Here is everything you should know, such as the history, timings, entry fee, and other details about Fort Aguada and lighthouse in Goa. Fort Aguada Information: Location Candolim, North Goa Type Hilltop Fort Timings 9:30 am to 6:00 pm; every day Entry Fee Free Still/Video Camera Free Built in 1612 Commissioned by Portuguese rulers Architectural Style Portuguese military architecture Distance from Panjim 17 km (approx.) Material Used Laterite Fort Aguada: History Fort Aguada traces its origins to 1609 when its construction was started by the Portuguese who were ruling over the region. The construction continued for the next three years and was completed in 1612 under the supervision of Viceroy Ruy Tavara. The word Aguada means freshwater in Portuguese language and the fort derives its name from a freshwater spring located within it. It is recorded that crews of sailing ships used to replenish their stock of potable water from this spring. Aguada Fort was built to guard and defend the Portuguese stronghold in Goa against the Maratha and Dutch invaders. Owing to its location at the confluence of the Arabian Sea and the Mandovi River, it became the most prized fortress for the Portuguese back in the seventeenth century. In 1864, a four-storied lighthouse was erected within the fort’s premises. For a long time after that, the fort served as a reference point for the ships and vessels sailing in from Europe, thanks to the lighthouse. In 1976, the lighthouse was finally abandoned and it is currently closed to the public. However, there is a new lighthouse built in the fort premises, which is called the Aguada Lighthouse. Interestingly, the fort premises also houses a jail which was actively used during the administration of the 100th prime minister of Portugal, called Salazar. It is one of those few forts in India that has never been conquered by an enemy. Fort Aguada Architecture Aguada Fort is a splendid example of the Portuguese military style of architecture. It was constructed using laterite stone, which was found in abundance in Goa. The fort is categorized into two parts – the upper part and the lower part. The upper part was designed to serve as a fort and a huge watering station. The lower part extended a safe berth for the ships belonging to the Portuguese rulers. The fort is enveloped by walls as high as 5 meters and as wide as 1.3 meters. There are bastions that surround the fort on three sides while the fourth side has a gateway that faces the Mandovi River. In its heydays, Aguada Fort served as one of the largest freshwater storages of Asia and had the capacity to store 2,376,

Aguada Fort, perched majestically on the cliffs overlooking the Arabian Sea, is a testament to Goa's rich history. My visit to this historic site left me awe-inspired, and it's a must-see for anyone exploring Goa. The fort's architecture is a blend of Portuguese and Indian influences, reflecting the colonial era when it was constructed in the early 17th century. As you enter the fort's gates, you step back in time. The well-preserved walls, bastions, and cannons evoke a sense of nostalgia. The panoramic views from Aguada Fort are simply breathtaking. On one side, you're treated to vistas of the Arabian Sea, with the waves crashing against the cliffs below. On the other, you can gaze at the lush greenery of Goa's landscape. It's a photographer's paradise and an ideal spot to watch a stunning sunset. The highlight of Aguada Fort is undoubtedly the iconic lighthouse, which stands tall at the edge of the fort. While you can't enter the lighthouse itself, the view from its base is worth the visit. It offers a 360-degree view of the surroundings. Aguada Fort is not just a historical site but also a tranquil escape from the bustling beaches of Goa. It's a place where you can soak in the history.
