You have to go with a tour guide to really appreciate the history of this place. It’s one of the new wonders of the world and it’s definitely worth a visit. The natural sound system was amazing, plus the tour guide gives you the reason why it’s considered to be a wonder of the world and it’s just awesome! Lots of vendors but we were in a tour group so it’s easier not to get distracted by them. Hats/umbrellas are recommended, thankfully the tour provided umbrellas. The structures are related to each other and we learned a lot about the history of this place. Highly recommended!

The experience was amazing, the place is beautiful and so big, wear some comfy snickers for your visit, don’t forget to bring your own bottle of water, inside you can buy something to drink but is too expensive. Bring a hat and sunscreen as is too sunny. I loved the place but I couldn’t enjoy 100% as there are too many sellers on the side of the road and inside the archaeological zone as well.

This is an absolutely outstanding Wonder of the World. A MUST visit spot if you're in the Yucatan!!! Very beautiful and historic! Get a tour guide to learn about the details of this Mayan ruin that you won't notice!!!!! Well worth it!!! You will unquestionably need a hat, water, and sunscreen!!! It is hot! Also, this place is very, very crowded. There are hundreds of souvenir sellers inside and outside the park who will be very aggressive in trying to sell things to you. If you do want to buy something, make certain to negotiate a lower price!!!

One of the biggest city of the Mayan this place is one of the best historical landmarks to see in Mexico. There is a special sound you can hear from the pyramid if you clap your hand standing at the bottom. It’s very mystical and wonderful to experience the culture of the ancient Mayans.

Absolutely stunning! A fantastic area surrounding a famous archaeological location. You must visit here when in Mexico and make sure you go with a local guide who can tell you the history of the area and make sure you do not miss any of the stunning features. Also keep an eye out for the iguanas that have made the area their home.

Visit was part of my package tour from Cancun. If you are going from Cancun, keep in mind that place is over 3 hours away and trip will be approx 12 hours. Talking about the place, archeological and cultural significance and marvel, 5 star. Loved learning about how it was built and what it represented. Now let's talk about less interesting parts. Extreme commercialization, vendors constantly trying to get you to buy things every single minute. Everything is priced up to match with American tourists, story telling by guide regarding the history is quite dramatized and heard several versions and stories from different guides. Also as part of package tours, they want to make sure you spend more time buying then enjoying prime attraction. My 12 hour tour allowed me to spend less then 2hours at the place and guide rushed from one place to another so I can be put back into bus to be at a place where I can be pressurized to buy something. I would recommend to get there early before it gets hot, spend more time so you can take break and enjoy each part of the complex. If I would have had that option, I would have given 5 stars.

It was closed and the website didnt say anything about it, please make sure you check and make sure its open when going. I know it was opening the 7th of this month Sept. I don't have hard feelings covid has a lot of things shut down the only reason I hated it is because i had a mob of people trying to chase me down to buy something this wasnt a hurry up and buy it was like zombies chasing me lol anyways when i come back to it I should end up giving it a 5 star, spot looks really nice in the pic looking forward to seeing the soccer basketball court

The Mayan temples here are preserved extremely well and are a must visit when you are in Mexico. The history and the architecture are fascinating and the fact that they were built so well is incredible. Make sure to have at least 1.5 hours to cover everything and more to do it at a leisurely pace.

Truly amazing. One of the 7 New Wonders of the World 🌎 So, to gain access you can pay $571 Pecos or $400 using a credit card and $87 Pecos in cash. Get ready for the street vendors from the time you arrive until you leave. They sell the same things so if you plan to buy be patient you'll see the same thing and depending on your negotiating skills you might knock off $20 more. Just say no if you don't want to buy. The area is well maintained. We didn't use a tour guide. Trust me there's over 50 tour guides at the entrance. The drive from Cancun to Chichén Itza is about 2hrs 30 minutes. There's two tolls and you pay $327 Pecos and $100 Pecos. I recommend the toll road as it cuts 45 minutes from the drive and the road is well paved. There's a lot of construction so get ready for stops and trucks jumping onto the road. We make the round trip with a full tank of gas.

Even though it is widely known and an extremely popular tourist site, Chichén Itzá is absolutely worth the trip. And it will be a trip if you’re a tourist, as it’s pretty far inland on the Yucatán peninsula. Going on a tour bus will allow you to see the landscape on your way, but it’s a lot of flat jungle with maybe a few towns/cities along the way depending on where you’re coming from. We visited while on a cruise, and were blessed with a passionate and knowledgeable tour guide, Julian, which added so much to the experience. He studied archaeology and participated in excavations at Chichén Itzá and other Mayan sites, so had a ton of background info that he was very happy to share. Even though visitors are no longer allowed to climb them, the ruins themselves are awesome. This is especially the case for the main attraction of El Castillo, also called the Temple of Kukulcán. There’s so many cool things about this pyramid, and even just seeing and learning about it alone would make it worth the visit. However, there are many more ruins to admire, along with several cenotes and lots of wildlife on the trails between sections. You’ll also find a ton of vendors with goods to sell, some of can be pushy. I did notice that prices here were cheaper than at the rest stop we visited on the ride over. Prepare for heat and lots of sunlight and expect to face crowds, and enjoy your visit to this wonder of the world!

A must see and definitely a place to add to your bucket list. Drove from Cancun and it took about 2 and half hours with little to no traffic for most of the drive. Definitely worth booking a tour when factoring in the price of tolls & gas if you are looking for a more budget friendly option. The toll lines could take up to 15 minutes. Several times just before arriving we were waved our by tour locations that made it seem like we had to get a tour but, luckily from reading all the reviews before we just keep driving. We didn’t get a tour guide and definitely would not say it is mandatory although I did already know a lot about the location and culture before this trip. If you don’t then getting a tour with transportation would definitely be a great option. We parked at a local spot just before the official parking which was about a five minute walk to the park. We bought tickets when we arrived. We went on a week day and arrived a little before noon and waited about 15-20 minutes to get our tickets. We were able to walk the entire park in less than 3 hours. Plenty of options from souvenir vendors all over the park and from the walk in. Overall it was an amazing experience and definitely the best place we went to when visiting the the Yucatán peninsula.

We are younger but really enjoyed it. I will go again some day. The bus ride was long. I don't remember the cost. We did stop at a sink hole on the way back and went swimming for a little while. It was a long trip but if you have an interest in the history or culture of the area you will enjoy it....

One of the 7 ancient wonders of the world. Absolutely breathtaking and unbelievable to know what the Mayan people could achieve with so little technology. If you are blessed enough to see this make sure you take the opportunity.

If you want to see one of the 7 wonders of the world, it's worth the trip. Go with a tour guide who can show and tell you about the unique builds and how voices echo so clearly in certain spots. Way too many vendors bugging you to buy stuff along the paths. Not much shade so bring a hat or umbrella.

Cenotes are among the biggest attractions on Yucatan, as there're over 6.000 of them. In most of them you can swim, which is an unforgettable experience. This one in Chichen Itza differs from all others. You cannot dip there, and it had a special meaning for Maya. Cenote Sagrado is the one where they threw gold, jade and human offerings to Rain God Chaac. It's considered the most sacred one. It's on the northern side of the complex, easy walkable from the Castillo after a row of vendors. Do not expect something outstanding apart the hole filled with murky water, but rather use your imagination when there.

It's not the most amazing place, but it's interesting to see the history behind. If you want to see something different than just pretty beaches definitely go. Otherwise we we're driving for 3 and a half hours.

Beautiful sight and so much to see. Definitely recommend doing a guided tour and having someone walk you around to start and give you some background on this amazing site. Great place to buy gifts for friends and family. The pyramid is so impressive and beautiful. I spent about two hours here and felt like that was more than enough to walk around the entire place and go back to anymore buildings or sites that I wanted to see again. Very accessible and easy to move around the entire place. You’ll be walking around on easy level ground the entire time.

Truly amazing place. You should definitely go, but prepare yourself for many insta-posers and a lot of touristy selling stuff. If you are able to turn off the noise created by people, and tune in into the history and sound of birds, it will be a very enjoyable experience. Ensure that you read about it before you go, so that you can appreciate it as it deserves.

A must go if you are in the area. Words can’t describe how amazing this historical place is. I strongly recommend hiring some local guides to take you to the best spots and to learn all about the history of this modern wonder. Be sure to have hats or umbrellas because it’s hot and sunny. Bring water, you will take a good walk in a hot environment. Arrive before 10am, because the tourists buses are arriving by this time.

The Mayan temples. Looking at one of the greatest civilizations accomplishment through the building of these temples has been the highlight of my experience here in Mexico. The historical context, visiting the temples, and walking on the grounds where these and genius amazing warrior people lived worshiped and created these amazing monuments was just an exquisite educational experience.

Chichen Itzá is a fascinating place. To experience these magnificent structures that are centuries old, built before any modern technology is absolutely breathtaking. I've been twice, once with a tour, which only gives you a couple of hours & you only get to see a couple of these structures. I went back this year & experienced an entire day & acres of structures, 2 cenotes & visited with several local Mayan people, (venders). Take your time, learn a little Spanish & watch the amazingly talent of the Mayan people & learn their history. Soak it all in. I promise it's a once in a lifetime experience! I also had the opportunity to visit at night & take in the light show. Chichen Itzá is a must see if you can. I also highly recommend Ek Balam, it's not as commercialized & was able to explore the structures inside & out. I was able to climb the pyramid there, go inside rooms & cool off in the cenote on property. There isn't the overwhelming number of vendors.

Great experience.. Beautiful Place with lots of history. I recommend to get a guide while you visiting. There are lot to learn about this place and alot to explore. Really wonders by the structure and there mathematical precision while building this. Try the Echo sound and you will be amazed by the results. Only negative is the local vendors, they will loot your money if you don't play smart. Also while packing keep an eye. They will outsmart you sometimes and won't pack the full items you bought. Must carry a bottle of water and an umbrella if you are visiting on day. It's really hot and there is only one shop selling water and it's quite expensive. Rest everything is awesome. A true and genuine Mayan Pyramid..

Chichén Itzá is a complex of Mayan ruins on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. A massive step pyramid, known as El Castillo or Temple of Kukulcan, dominates the ancient city, which thrived from around 600 A.D. to the 1200s. Graphic stone carvings survive at structures like the ball court, Temple of the Warriors and the Wall of the Skulls. Nightly sound-and-light shows illuminate the buildings' sophisticated geometry.

Famous archeological site on the Mexican peninsula. It was worth the visit and to learn about the history of the Mayans and see the majestic structures. I recommend a private tour if possible so you can go at your own pace. There's not much cover at the site so it can get quite sweltering on a sunny day. Bring a hat or an umbrella. There are many locals trying to sell you trinkets. Definitely bargain.

It’s just a cenote that you can only see from a distance. You cannot swim there and do not expect to see a lot. So it’s different than the other touristic cenotes outside valladolid. With regards to the story and the historic meaning of this cenote with chichen itza, it is kind of special.

The entrance fee (around MXN600) is too high in comparison to i.e. Coba where the entrance fee is MXN80 and the Vibe is more natural. Touts and vendors seem to be everywhere. All of them shout at you seeking your attention, destroying the atmosphere of the place. It is impossible to just walk around and indulge in the history of the site. Everything is advertised to be available for sale for 1usd. That is until you actually wanna buy something. That's when the price goes up multiple times. Nowadays it is also impossible to get close or climb the ruins.

Excellent experience to see. Make sure you're prepared for the onslaught of vendors as you go through the gates as it is very much a tourist trap. Take time to explore the surrounding buildings as there are quite a few, all with their own history as well. It's quite a feature to see and there is lots to fill your day with.

Great place with rich history. These ruins are absolutely amazing to visit. We did this in a tour with a separate company that had guides walking us through each of the areas. If you can, try to bring pesos in cash for the countless vendors selling items. They accept some visa cards as well but there's a fee. Highly recommend visiting!

Amazing experience. The ruins are a lot bigger than I expected and a lot more going on than just a temple in the jungle. The culture, the science the history was inspiring. Loved the whole place. It breaths the Mayan culture and the atmosphere (apart from the obvious retailers who are unfortunately everywhere). The place is full of tourists, but the areas are so big that people spread out and its not such a big problem. The new age wonder is a good name for the complex, and definitely a must visit.

It is my second time here and is still a wonderful experience. It’s a must for anyone visiting Riviera Maya. Rent a car and arrive early in the morning to avoid all the tourist busses plus the morning light is always better for your selfies. You can easily spend 3-4 hours here so bring lots of water, snacks and don’t forget sunblock and a hat to avoid sunburn. My only recommendation is to avoid buying anything from the locals. They will try anything to get your money and lie to you by selling you cheap cement products that will easily break in your bags.

Great place to visit for history buffs only took in half the park due to time issues... only down side is the gauntlet of vendors in the park along all the paths trying to sell you everything for a dollar and most of the time it's a dollar discount. It got to the point where I didn't want to walk around anymore because of it. Eventually it will hurt business... maybe make a bazaar area just for vendors.....i know everyone needs to make a living ...but because of this I will not return... really takes away from the experience

The place is breathtaking and amazing. Love the history behind this place and the fact you get to see everything up close. Only issue is the amount of locals on premise trying to sell you every little trinket and the constant harassment from them

Came here in June 1986 and again in September 2021. What a difference in tourism experience. In 1986 it was so much more natural versus today. There are vendors everywhere. In 1986 I was able to climb these beautiful ruins, today you can only admire them from a distance. Tour guide is the way to go, they are very knowledgeable and speak English!

Beautiful ruins lots of shops and history. Cannot wait to go back!! I do recommend potentially going on your own and paying for a tour guide once you get there. The excursions are quite long and tiresome. But the views are beautiful!! Just do some research and pick the best option for you.

There is an opinion that each human has to visit the chichen izza, feel the energy of the most powerful civilization of the past world. However I think that the power is really overwhelming I would still recommend to visit it Small life hack : get here the earlier as you can, close to 9am in this case you will have way less tourist and most of the annoyed hagglers don’t bother you

Great place. Really interesting. A lot to see. Beside new city with pyramid you should also go to old city with very interesting small buildings. But you really need to come early. It's extremely crowded after 11 am.

These were the most amazing people we took this tour through carnival my goodness it was so awesome the only problem we had was the drive was so long but the tour guides were amazing they made you feel at home... Do not get caught up with the people selling in the market we were almost left because of that.

  • 5/5 Alexandra J. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing site and I understand why it is one of the new 7 wonders of the world. It is very hot when visiting so make sure to have water and ideally an umbrella for shade. Fantastic Mayan architecture and rich with culture. Do be warned there are a lot of peddlers around trying to sell you stuff.

  • 4/5 CsabaJ 1 year ago on Google
A wonderful glimpse into history. Entrance tobthe area costed around 600pesos (about 30USD). This cenote is where the hearts of the sacrificed Mayans were thrown into. Expect a lot of tourists, as well as souvenir merchants. Sundays are free for locals, expect even bigger crowd.

  • 1/5 Salma E. 2 years ago on Google
Not a nice cenote to visit. It’s not worth your time as the water was very dirty and nothing nice to see really.

Amazing physical look into the past, I’ve read books or accounts all of my life about the historic people of Central America, specifically the Maya on this trip… the structures were breathtaking. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide, Professor Gaby was every bit the instructor needed for my inquisitive group. Much appreciated.

Fantastic place to visit. A must see if your visiting Mexico. Arrived around 9am and there were a moderate amount of people. Our tour guide gave us a decent amount of information as we went round. The weather was excellent but very hot 🔥 I've been in the past and visiting a second time was no disappointment. Highly recommended 👌

  • 4/5 David C. 9 months ago on Google
Really cool place. It was very hot, not a lot of shade. A bunch of vendors lined up along the edge selling a bunch of sculptures, tapestries, and such. Very busy, multiple guided tours, very informative. Visited as part of a large guided tour.

  • 4/5 Suwida 10 months ago on Google
Interesting historical sight. There's entrance fees to enter and beware of the list of things that you're not allowed to bring inside. Took the tour here and it was very hot. I suggest that you bring sunscreen, hat, cold water, and umbrella. There are many sellers all along the walking paths pushing to sell their souvenir items.

  • 5/5 Suelen C. 7 months ago on Google
You have to come here! It’s incredible and more affordable than Giza! It’s a beautiful place. A truly spectacular accomplishment by the Mayans. I’m in love with Chichén Itzá!

If you are on the Yucatan peninsula, I recommend seeing one of the world's seven wonders. These Mayan ruins are incredible and give you a better appreciation of their culture. I recommend you go with a tour guide to get a good history lesson while there.

  • 5/5 Alessandro B. 6 months ago on Google
I had the privilege of visiting the Pyramids of Chichén Itzá in Mexico, and it was nothing short of breathtaking. The cultural richness of this site is truly remarkable, and the organization of the visit was impeccable. Located amidst the lush beauty of Mexico, this experience was absolutely stunning. I can't recommend it enough – a must-visit for anyone seeking a deep dive into history and culture. I loved every moment of it!

  • 5/5 Mark R. 7 months ago on Google
Absolutely unbelievable. We booked an excursion here with our hotel and it was a journey getting out there, but it was so worth it. The structures here really boggle your mind. A truly must see experience. The only annoying thing is the countless vendors all over trying to see you fakes for $1, really dampens the vibe.

  • 5/5 Jessica L. 7 months ago on Google
If I could give 10 stars I would. The ruins are breathtaking! We went as a self guided group and got tickets pretty quickly despite the line up.

  • 5/5 Brandi H. 7 months ago on Google
Such a breathtaking experience. Such a shame that colonizers destroyed the culture that built this magnificent place that now merely allows us a glimpse at life in the ancient Americas. Also a shame that it continues to be disrespected by tourists and graffiti, as it feels like a holy place.

  • 5/5 Luke C. 5 months ago on Google
Beautiful pyramids and structures! The Mayan history is very interesting and it's cool to see how in tune this ancient civilization was to the earth, sun, stars and planets! If you are in the Cancun area, it's definitely worth looking into to take a tour. We recommend doing the earlier tour so that by the time you get to the site around the time that it opens.

  • 5/5 Amy Leffler (. 6 months ago on Google
Awesome experience while visiting Mexico! Would recommend going in the morning as early as possible to avoid the crowds and before it gets brutally hot! Loved learning the history and being able to walk around and explore. There is also lots of vendors there to do some shopping.

  • 4/5 Amanda K. 4 months ago on Google
Absolutely amazing place! I have to knock off a star because, it is considered an archeological site, yet there are market vendors EVERYWHERE harassing you while you try to enjoy the magic of the site. Not to mention, another disappointment is there is garbage (on the ground) to be found which is very disrespectful to the Mayans as it is a sacred place. Despite this, I do recommend going as it's a beautiful site.

  • 5/5 Arcy H. 4 months ago on Google
A true wonder of the world. This place is amazing. I recommend you arrive early to avoid the crowds and the heat. I highly recommend you get a tour guide. A guide will explain so much and will make you appreciate this place even more.

  • 5/5 Loren B. 4 months ago on Google
Simply amazing place. The word awesome falls short in describing it. Definitely use a tour guide to get the most of your experience.

  • 5/5 Sherri L. 4 months ago on Google
What a place! So much history and wonder here. We spent a good deal of time walking through the various ruins and learning about it's history from our tour guide. I was so surprised to see the dogs that climb up and bark from the top of the towers. The only disappointment was all the vendors who have stalls there are very pushy and get in your face to buy stuff. Every stand has the exact same thing, so it did get a bit much.

  • 5/5 Andressa M. 4 months ago on Google
Amazing place! I highly recommend hiring a local guide to understand a bit more of the rich history of the place. We hired a guide called Irwin Castillo, who gave us good explanations about the ruins.

  • 4/5 Jennifer M. 3 months ago on Google New
Must see…get a guide so you learn about the history-it’s worth it. How the official guide inside the site for less than the ones outside. Marked down for the disorganization of the site regarding tourists. Lines were long (45+min) at 9am. 50 buses in the lot? No parking at the site. Once you get to the front of the line there are non need windows-you have to visit 2 to pay the different fees -one to state and one to the site-but this is not marked ahead of time. Then you get in another 15-20 min line to get your ticket scanned. Took over an hour from arrival to entrance. Could have been way more efficient so be ready. Grounds are hot but there are a couple spots to get drinks and snacks. Bucket list item but to miss, but be ready to be frustrated with lack of efficiency.

  • 5/5 Roshni R. 3 months ago on Google New
Walking through the Mayan ruins while listening to our tour guide explaining the history and science behind everything was an amazing experience. It was a great insight towards the brilliance of our ancestors and destroyed wisdoms. Mathematical facts behind the pyramid is a must to pay attention thing for anyone visiting - like when and how the snake form comes down from the heaven(pyramid stairs), or how the pyramid gives off bird sounds while clapping, the key numbers in correspondence to the lunar cycle, the Mayan calendar and so on. No wonder it is one of the Wonders of the World !
