saw the good reviews online, went here to order lunch. Extremely disappointed, though the flavor and taste was different and a little better than average, the portion sizes is a RIP OFF! This restaurant must be hurting for some beef or meat, they give you the smallest to go box possible. Hunan Pearl is so stingy about their portion sizes. They packed the their "lunch special" into this small size to go box, and inside was not filled. Found about only four pieces of beef, all hard to chew and had burnt color to it. You probably can or cannot tell by the pictures, but the to go boxes were so small, same size as their rice container. There was barely anything inside the boxes, was done with this lunch in less than three bites. All that for a crazy overpriced $12.50! that all went down the drain. The other problem is this restaurant is listing different prices , their website lists $11 for orange beef. Their hard copy menus list $10. The cashier charged $12.50! Was still starving after spending $12.50 for an order. What a major disappointment this is.

Hunan Pearl has been a part of our lives for 25 years. It was my dad's favorite place for us to take him, and the wait staff (Tony) and owners (Jason and Michael) were always so kind and respectful of him. The food is delicious, fresh and beautifully prepared. As an extra bonus, they gladly accommodate my gluten-free needs for everything on the menu! This restaurant warms not only my belly but also my heart.

As far as Chinese restaurants go, Hunan Pearl is one of the best! Their food is fresh and their service impeccable. It is definately worth visiting. It is a restaurant that makes you feel special some how. 5 stars for sure!

Great Chinese food! I usually go there for their honey ribs, but it was sold out tonight. We ordered a couple of dishes tonight. And it was was very good! No leftover! We love the service, too!

My family has been eating here for over 20 years. It's great Chinese good. Great lunch specials and also good for special occasion, multi-course meals.

We had take out, but the food was absolutely amazing. The restaurant looked clean from what I could see I did not use the facility's but the staff was very helpful and pleasant. Everyone that was coming out was treated like family so I believe this is a good place definitely plan on coming back here again when I'm in the area.

From 10/07/23 (Ethan was awesome) I went into the restaurant and spoke with the Restaurant Manager Ethan on 10/07/23 and he was super apologetic about the negative food. Now keep in my mind all I wanted was a refund but Ethan went above and beyond. Not only did I get a refund, he was insistent that they offer to redo my meal and he also gave me fried rice, Sweet/Sour Soup. I politely declined as I would have felt guilty about taking a refund plus free food, but he convinced me of his generous offer. The food this time was way better, the soup and fried rice were really yummy... I'm glad I took a chance to talk to management and just provide my feedback. Thank you for a positive experience the review has been updated to reflect your generosity and customer service :) From 10/06/23 I ordered the Mongolian beef and it was ready for pickup relatively quick after I had placed my order. I got home into my surprise there is absolutely no flavor it's just meat vegetables and abundance of oil that's all it is. Unfortunately the place was near closing when I left I called and left a message I will update this review when I get a response back from the restaurant.

My friends and I went to enjoy a final fabulous meal before they closed their doors for good. They did not disappoint. The food and service were excellent! The Hunan Pearl will be missed.

No one’s happiness exceeded my own to hear this local gem reopened!! No other Chinese restaurant comes close, I was truly heartbroken to have lost it and I’m overjoyed it’s been saved. Everything is always fresh, delicious, and prepared with love and care. What a gift to the neighborhood. No warms our hearts or holidays like Hunan Pearl has for so long!

Fantastic! So glad this place reopened! We stumbled upon it during the phase where they were planning on closing and we were so sad to find this wonderful and only get one meal. However, now that it's reopened it's going to be a staple in our home! Food is delicious, the spices, texture, everything is far more elevated than any other Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. My only complaint is that the tables are never big enough for all the items we order because we want to try everything. The appetizers are fantastic, the mustard sauce was fresh and so flavorful, and the main courses were piles of treasures! On top of it all, probably some of the best service we've ever had. From the friendliness of the hosts, to the wait staff and servers who treated us like family who came to their house for dinner, we felt so comfortable and welcomed.

This is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve eaten at in years. The food is fresh and tastes delicious. The wait staff are very attentive. The place seems to have a touch of class about it which is a dwindling occurrence these days.

From walking in the atmosphere doesn't reflect its pricing at all. The dining room looks rather poor with dingy green carpet. The wait staff were nice but maybe a tad inattentive and we were served by maybe 3 or 4 different people throughout our dinner. The tables were clean and the dishes were nice, but we only had paper menus and the drink menu was old and beat up. Together, my husband and I ordered the appetizer platter for 2, which was $18. The presentation was lovely but the price was a little high for the limited amount you get. I ordered the beef with broccoli. The serving size was rather small for what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant in that price range. The flavor was rather bland and only slightly salty and there was a lot of liquid just sitting on the plate. My husband ordered the general tso's chicken. It looked very appealing on the plate but again the portioning was small. The flavor of this was also pretty bland. It had a pleasant spice, but there was very little flavor underneath the spice. Not to mention you have to pay for a small bowl of rice separately if you want any.

Excellent honey spare ribs! We also had the general tso chicken, a little too salty, and garlic green beans, perfectly steamed. Excellent service from Kevin.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the pdx metro area. Not very authentic but delicious. They will accommodate allergies and reasonable requests. We typically order the general tso's chicken (light on the sauce ) and the veggie fried rice without water chestnuts and mushrooms. The chicken is crispy and flavorful and not suggy due to the light sauce. The fried rice is light and filled with yummy veggies.

Mostly friendly service. Owner checked their watch when we walked in at 8:30. Food was what we expected. Bathroom floor needs to be cleaned. Please wait until the guests leave until you start vacuuming. Fortune cookies were stale.

The food prices are too high for the bland excuse of poorly salted meat and abysmally small servings sizes. They are presented well and the place looks nice as you go in. The captivating atmosphere brings you in but the food kicks you out. We started with the $18 appetizer for two and it was good, but when presented with only two potstickers, two crab puffs, four small slices of pork, with ok sized prawns, you realize quickly the portion sizes don't match the price. The $21 General Tsos came with 11 pieces of meat. The $18 broccoli beef is swimming in a flavorless sauce. The food taste was repulsive and unfortunately we will not be coming back when it costs $70 for two.

Great Chinese food! It's a bit more expensive than your average Chinese restaurant (and they charge extra for rice), but worth it IMO given the authentic taste. We ordered the Four Treasures, Mongolian Beef, Hunan Pearl Shrimp, and Mapo Tofu - all good. Service was efficient and food came out quickly.

Today is my second day in a row here. The first day we had vegetable chicken with rice and it was good. Today’s barbecue pork is different in that it is spiced with possibly more .spices than we prefer. The egg flower soup with a corn flavor at lunch it’s fantastic. We had Buddhist vegetables and Vegetable chicken to compare. Two out of the three liked vegetable chicken the best. The cashew chicken is good but not extremely special. On a funny note, Every time we finished up late we took a little bit on how long it would take for the waiter or waitress to pick it up. They are very quick I’m cleaning off the table

If it wasn’t for Maura, the sweet young waitress who served us, this review would have been worse. The special green bean and chicken, shrimp and beef special was very good though lacking in green beans. The shrimp vegetable dish was bland and uninspired. The hot and sour soup was so sour we had to give it back. Soup was extra, not included with dinner. And I cannot believe they charge extra for a tiny bowl of white rice! Very pricey food for what you get, a limited menu, tired decor, and not as good as in the past. We are still searching for that special Chinese restaurant, we didn’t find it here.

Food was served promptly and offered many authentic dishes. Peking duck was excellent! Note: 24-hour notice when ordering the duck!

This is our favorite Chinese food in town. We always get take out and watch basketball for Christmas. They made it easy to order ahead and pick up when we were ready. Staff is so nice! The food is always so good! The kiwi shrimp is our favorite 😍 6/29 This was our first visit since it changed owners and the food is still the best. Service was so fast and attentive. So glad its still the same great placs

I was gifted two gift certificates from families I teach (almost all single income families, so very generous gifts!) that are no longer usable less than a year later. We we're told that they closed in August and reopened under new management, so they are no longer valid because they were issued under the former ownership. I understand the legal aspect here, but it doesn't mean it's right. I feel bad for not using them within the 3 month window they were valid, thus wasting the families generosity. This experience will definitely shape my decision of returning in the future or recommending as I have readily done in the past.

Decent selection of food items and the food was good and service was quick. I would really need to go again to give an accurate review based off of more than just one item. What I did have I enjoyed.

The food is delicious but the amount is small for the price. I love the dishes with black beans.

Clean, quick but shocking small plate of chicken for $11 and you need to pay extra for rice $1(lunch special). The portions are perfect for lunch but the price is a bit much. Says “HOT HOT SPICY!) for the Szechuan Chicken but I would say it’s a medium mild.
