Brilliant Carvery! Excellent value for money and the food and sides are excellent. I did have the king size but not really needed as the Yorkshire’s are a country in themselves and was too full for the chipolatas. Will definitely go again. Great service from the staff.

Went for breakfast early Friday morning. Nice warm welcome as soon as we entered and the selection in the self-service was very good and there was plenty of it. The sausages were really good quality, not like cheap chippy ones and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Just missing a bit of black pudding but I've still given it 5 stars and will certainly come back in future.

Lots of choice of vegetables which were regularly restocked. They were doctors just three meats due to supply issues but still good and always busy. Best to book at peak times on a weekend

Food decent time you book for is key. We went 6.20pm and was plenty left previous week booked for 7.00pm and received a call 30 mins before saying buffet options down to just beef.Decent of them to ring but still a little disappointed

Clean and tidy. Staff very welcoming and prices were great. Even got a little plate for our baby to have some veggies while we had our meal! Only thing negative i could say is that at the time of day & week I visited (around 4PM on a Wednesday) the carvery roast wasn't too fresh and cooled down rather quickly but I guess that's to be expected when its not busy. There's nothing that can really be done about that I guess. So with that in mind I'd definitely go back but I'd pick a slightly busier hour.

We arrived without making a prior booking and were friendly welcomed. The food was excellently prepared and very tasty. We will definitely return.

According to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, the human psyche is composed of three main components: the id, ego, and superego. The id represents our instinctual desires and drives, seeking immediate gratification. The superego represents our internalized moral and societal standards, striving for perfection. The ego serves as the mediator between the id and superego, balancing their conflicting demands. In the context of Toby Carvery, we can explore its potential value to the modern man through a Freudian lens. The Toby Carvery, a chain of restaurants in the United Kingdom known for its traditional carvery-style meals, can be seen as catering to both the id and superego aspects of the psyche. Gratification of the id: The id is driven by basic instincts and desires, such as hunger and pleasure. The Toby Carvery provides an environment where individuals can satisfy their immediate physical needs by indulging in hearty, comforting food. The all-you-can-eat carvery buffet allows the modern man to satiate his hunger, providing a sense of fulfillment and pleasure. Connection to the superego: The superego represents the internalized societal standards and moral values that guide an individual's behavior. In today's fast-paced world, where individuals often face pressure to conform and succeed, the Toby Carvery offers a place of respite. It provides a traditional, familiar setting reminiscent of home-cooked meals and family gatherings, connecting individuals to a sense of tradition, community, and stability. Moreover, the Toby Carvery embodies a social ritual that encourages individuals to engage in communal dining experiences. By sharing a meal together, the modern man can establish connections and foster a sense of belonging, promoting social integration and reinforcing the superego's emphasis on societal cohesion. In summary, from a Freudian perspective, the Toby Carvery holds value for the modern man by simultaneously addressing his primal desires (id) and providing a space that aligns with societal expectations and moral standards (superego). By indulging in satisfying meals and fostering social connections, individuals can find a temporary respite from the pressures of contemporary life.

The food was excellent, we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Dining area was spacious enough that you didn’t feel on top of others. The staff were great. The only negative I’d say is it could do with freshening up, the decor is looking a bit tired. Otherwise spot on

Called in 8am for breakfast. Some products we had to wait for. The crockery was dirty, I brought this to the attention of the manager, no apology given, he even checked the 1s I had pulled out off the pile. The eggs came out & were literally slammed down on the counter. Poor atmosphere & staff attitude. For the sake of a 20 minute drive go to Toby Carvery Carr Mill for breakfast - much better

I went tonight with family. I had a veg carvery and they both had the salmon wellington. All of the food was really good. I hadn't been for a while and lots of the staff were new to me but they were all great. Rachel was extremely kind to me too. X

Called for breakfast when we had a long power cut at home. Restaurant was very quiet but we were well looked after by the staff. The buffet breakfast was very reasonably priced especially as you could go back and eat as much as you wanted. There was also a good selection of eggs, bacon , sausage, baked beans, tomatoes, hash browns ,fried potatoes. Toast on white and brown bread readily available to toast yourself. We also chose coffee on which we could replenish as required.Only downside was the food could perhaps have been kept hotter. However will be prepared to return in future and recommend to others

The staff were amazing, friendly, smiling, helpful. The atmosphere was lovely, everywhere was clean. The carvery was delicious, lots of choices and hot To top it all, Alyssa noticed we were there for my son’s birthday (29)and he got a birthday tray with ice cream, and Happy Birthday on the tray in icing sugar ☺️

The Carvery was excellent and so tasty and the food was fresh and hot. The chef was friendly and Caitlin the waitress was very helpful and also very efficient, which made the occasion a very happy one indeed. I have been dining here for years and years and the food continues to get better and better! Well done to all the staff!

Great food and choice of meats at the carvery. Lots of good vegetables to accompany your meal, with condiments to match your choice. Service was excellent when we visited by attentive and friendly staff. The building itself is tired and hardworn inside, and could do with a refurbishment. However this didn't detract from our meal which we really enjoyed and was good value.

We can't complain about the service, it was exceptional. Even after we had a spillage of a pint all over one of my cousins. They cleared it up but couldn't do much about my cousins trousers, which absolutely drenched. The food was OK but not hot enough, unfortunately. The place was quite quiet, but it was lunchtime midweek.

We tried to come during the week at 5 pm but when we arrived we were told there was no meat, and it would be at least an hour! Unbelievable! But when we returned on the Saturday, it was great - a very good deal for the carvery, and a lot of choice.

Had a brilliant night out here on Saturday with 20+ friends. Staff so polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. One of our number was unable to go due to sickness, and as her meal was paid for, they packed it up and sent it home for her.

Went on a Sunday so expected it to be very busy. 6 of us ate and we booked in advance. We had to queue for a bit for food but this went quick. Great selection of meat and lots of choice with extras. Staff Great and attentive.

Plates for carvery need to be hot not barely warm. Choice was good but vegetables need to be hotter. Semi warm veg on barely warm plates went cold quickly. Staff in charge attire not professional/smart enough .Suggest management uniform. Price not competitive with local establishments. Not value for money. Why is carvery £4 dearer on Sundays? for nothing extra.

Hi I’m Karen Just to be clear, the food was pretty top notch actually. The waiting staff were fine. Not exactly cheery but it was New Year’s Day and franchise restaurants aren’t usually particularly good to their staff. Moral was low. However, a simple mistake was made by our waiter. They had taken our drinks order and given one of us a double vodka and coke when they ordered a single vodka and coke. That doesn’t seem like a biggy really. And that’s exactly how we treated it as we went to pay at the till. We were splitting the bill but I just wanted to check on behalf of one of the other guests that we could have it amended on the bill. Probably the difference of a pound so I guess that makes me a stickler, but after what happened next, so be it! After querying this with the first member of staff available replied “well he had a double so you’ll have to pay for it”. If they’d have said in any sort of polite way I would have said it was fair enough. But at this point I’d just thought it was a fault on the bill. My friend had no idea he’d drunk a double, unless he’s not told me, he’s trained chef/cocktail expert. But the way they spoke made me continue to question. In response they rolled their eyes and walked away to get another member of staff. From what I can tell it was the staff manager who took a the reins on this crime of the century! I repeated my request to the manager and they said the same as their colleague. Apparently he seemed to think there would be a noticeable difference between a single and a double vodka and coke. I wonder. What should my friend have done if he’d have noticed it was a double? I’m not a manager so I don’t know. But really their whole demeanour was aggressive. They stared down my friend and said “you drank the double, so you’ll be paying for the double”. My friend is a super chilled kind guy so he said yes to make peace. But I’m a Karen so I had to tell the manager he was rude. The manager disagreed and made an attempt at an apology. You’ve probably gathered by now it didn’t quite hit the spot. This started as a tiny mistake made by your staff, why not just treat it like one. Hold the nukes people ;)

Warm and cosy and staff were friendly. Very easy to eat well at a good price. My husband particularly enjoyed the fruit crumble, I was too full to have any! I wish there was a dog friendly section, I would go more often.

I just want to say that the lady carving (didn’t catch her name) on Christmas Day was the most lovely person I’d met in the whole place. She should deserve a raise! Also the serving staff (especially billy) were amazing! Considering the price, it was a brilliant Christmas Day! Well done to all.

Our first visit. We booked a table and the member of staff spent several minutes looking for our booking on the computer before leading us to our table. To get to our table we had to squeeze past two tables where people were dining disturbing them while they were eating. We then had to do this several times and also the waiting staff and other diners. The bench were my daughter and I was sat was very uncomfortable and stuck together by tape. While booking the table a member of our party read all the information provided about allergies to save time when we got to the restaurant. The waitress asked if anyone had any food allergies, the member of our party then had to read the information again due to it being more than on the booking form and also fill in a paper form. We understand why but it was a bit of a palaver compared to other restaurants. It took along time to complete the process due to the waitress having to find a tablet with the information on, forgetting to give us a pen, the pen then she gave us didn't work and then the next pen was running out. By the time we were able to get our food the table who arrived just after us had nearly finished their meal. The food was goodish for a carvery but not worth the Sunday rate, which is more than the rest of the week. The beef was chewy, Yorkshire puddings were not up to their usual standard and the peas and carrots were slightly dried out. The serving spoons were so hot to touch, it made it uncomfortable to put the vegetables on our plates. The toilets were slightly unpleasant, there was use toilet roll on top of the toilet cistern in one cubicle and on the floor of two others. Only two cubicles had toilet roll but they were the worst of the ones with used toilet roll lying around and the hand driers didn't work. The staff were friendly and very polite but the waiting staff were rushed looking after many tables in their area due to some areas were not being used. The staff serving the carvery was very helpful and was able to answer all questions about the food they were serving. Don't think we will be returning especially on a Sunday or Bank Holiday.

Excellent roast dinner. I was full. Pleasant atmosphere. Would prefer the music to be switched off. Free coffee /tea refills would be good at very little expense to the company.

Although it was 7pm when we arrived the food was below average. The staff were lovely and the access for my wife with the mobility scooter was excellent. It should have rang alarm bells when there were only a couple of people in

We had a lovely meal which was served by an outstanding waitress named Olivia. She was very knowledgeable when we asked about the food and drinks that Toby carvery served. She was quick to serve us and made us feel extremely welcomed and comfortable. Once we finished our meals she politely came over and asked if we had finished our food and if she could take the plates away. She is an extremely polite, friendly, knowledgeable young lady and she is a credit to the restaurant.
