A great location in Munich with countless places to shop, eat, and relax. The central square is also so large and distinct that it’s a helpful landmark for those of us visiting from out of country, and for meeting up with friends. The architecture is beautiful. The atmosphere is bustling. We had some great times, and great food here. Overall: key location and we will return when we are next in Munich.

Very beautiful place. To enjoy it the most i would suggest to visit it during the sunrise on a weekday when there are no crowds of people since it's extremely popular. Fantastic architecture, literally must visit for every tourist in Munich.

11/26/23: All the shops are closed on Sundays, but they make restaurant workers work. I guess it's old town, but many buildings were destroyed in WW II, so only their foundations are ancient, like in many parts of Europe 🇪🇺 & England 🇬🇧. It was safe. I enjoyed walking around & exploring the area.

City Streets to room around. Nice to shop around the city center. All the brands shops are also available . Lots of options to eat drinks. You can enjoy your evenings in bar, pubs and restaurants. You can enjoy city architecture as well. If you new to the city then it’s must visit.

Beautiful area and particularly during Xmas. Lots and lots of food stalls and surrounding restaurants. At night the Xmas lights really help set the mood. Then add the carolers near the huge Xmas tree and it really is a great experience. Besides food, there are many souvenir shops. Many local tours start here. Also a nice toy museum is nearby.

Sehr schön geschmückt. Dort kann alles kaufen rund um Weihnachten. Super hat uns gefallen, das jeder Glühweinstand einen eigenen Becher hatte. Wir waren hell begeistert.

This town square is a must visit in Munich. The architecture is simply gorgeous, with its unique balconies and windows designs/colors. There are many street stalls selling foods and drinks, souvenirs and branded stuff. Also, numerous street artists were performing when we were there. This further adds to the colorfulness and character of the area. The design makes us forget that we are in the modern days and takes us back to many centuries ago. There are lots to see, shop, eats for every taste and individual, from beer markets to restaurants. Our family of 4 enjoyed ourselves thoroughly here. Pity we were here on a day trip only. Will come back if we have the chance.

This was one of my most favorite spots in Munich. Every place you look in any direction, it's beautiful. We were there during the Christmas season, and the lights at night were gorgeous. Restaurants and coffee shops were all within 🚶‍♂️ distance. The Christmas Markets were very close by. Don't miss this area, if you visit Munich.

Marienplatz is the central square in Munich, Germany. It's a bustling hub surrounded by historic buildings, including the New Town Hall with its iconic Glockenspiel. The square hosts various events, markets, and is a starting point for exploring Munich's vibrant city center. It is one of my favorite place. I always enjoy to visit this place. Strongly recommended for tourists visiting Munich. For more details follow me on YouTube: @life.beyond.borders

A perfect place that offers many different options to enjoy a nice beer in the outdoors. I loved the architecture there, the place is so beautiful and it is surrounded by many other wonderful places such as cathedrals, restaurants, emblematic buildings and other spots just waiting to be discovered by us!

Wonderful historic city center with a wide variety of shopping and food options. Only foot traffic is allowed, hence a great place to walk and explore. Architectural masterpieces galore, and you may be surprised by the intricate clockwork mechanism of the clocktower. Well worth a visit.

One of the most charming squares I've ever seen. There are good cafes, restaurants, breweries and the metro around. Highlight for the city hall clock which is an unmissable and very beautiful attraction

Endless high end shopping, people watching, visually awesome... food, fresh fruits, roasted nuts...a band playing and filling the walkways with their wonderful music... Spend hours. Right in front of the glockenspiel you can get your covid shots notice the pictures of many Germans doing just that

Best landmark of Munich. Take a stop in Hugendubel to read some books while enjoying view of Rathaus, you can also take a sip coffee with Brezel at Rischart in the panoramic crowd of Marienplatz, and climbing the tower for the best view of Munich from St. Peter‘s Church. In several times the Rathaus-Glockenspiel will play song, so don’t miss it! If you come to Munich just enjoy the hype in in this city center ❤️

I guess it’s kind of a ‘must-see’ if you’re visiting Munich. Too crowded for me to be comfortable though 🙈 but still quite interesting and maybe even worth the fuss 🥴 This place has been Munich main square since 1158 ☝️🤓, named after the ‘Marian Column’, which was erected in 1638 to celebrate the end of the Swedish occupation of the 30-years-war. The famous Glockenspiel in the tower of the Neues Rathaus is playing 2-3 times a day and beary popular among tourists. The played scenes are inspired by the tournaments and history that was happening here during the Middle Age 🏟

I have been staring at this beautiful structure for so damn long. Love the details of every single piece. Photo taken can't really bring out the feeling of being there to look at it. The stress there was very crowded, probably because it is the main city centre I guess. Like walking around with all the old buildings.

I can say with no doubt that this is the most prestigious iconic and superb central downtown in all of Germany. always crowded, shops and restaurants with tasty Bavarian beer everywhere, a U-bahn station and of course many iconic churches and historical buildings that are all sitting in this square.

This is a beautiful and busy city center. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it’s bustling with energy despite the cold and rain. There are multiple restaurants, stores and places of worship. There are stalls selling bread, fruit and cheese.

A nice place in the center of city with beautiful and amazing central location in Munich. The architecture is beautifully done. the central square is spacious and you can have a walk around old historical buildings as well as observe monuments around. They worth taking pictures of. The main reason people love to visit here is its atmosphere at the time of ticking clock tower with dancing dolls. It has couple of very tall towers from where you can have breathtaking views of Munich city. It’s a crowded place because main shopping street next to it. A lots of shopping stores, cafes & restaurants around for quick shopping or grabbing a quick bite. Don’t drive there because parking is bite far but best traveling by subway. If you are planning to visit Munich, this place is a must visit.

Marienplatz in Munich is a captivating hub of Bavarian culture and history. The New Town Hall, with its iconic Glockenspiel clock, is a visual marvel, and the hourly performance is enchanting. The square teems with life, offering diverse experiences, from street performances to delightful local cuisine. Its central location makes it an ideal starting point for Munich exploration. However, it can get crowded, so timing your visit wisely is advisable.

Lovely town hall square. At 11am, midday and 5pm the town hall clock glockenspiel is played and the figures dance around the tower. You can take the lift to the top of the tower for a few euros and get amazing views of Munich and its surrounding area, all the way down to the Alps. The main underground and s bahn station is here as well so you can get anywherejin Munich and surrounding areas quickly and efficiently.

The awesome place has its own vibes. I visited the place on Sunday so most of the shops were closed. However restaurants were open having on street dinning. They serve beer and food. This place is a tourist attraction as well in the city. The place has its own history. Many street artists are also performing in the area.

It's an absolutely beautiful building. The clock tower rings out, high above the other buildings and through the streets. The figures dance around on a carousel. There are statues and dragons and works of stone from a very long time ago. Many people gather around, taking photos and videos as it chimes. Inside has some interesting features, like gargoyles and spiral staircase, more statues and some doors to walk through. Check it out.

A great place to visit in the great city of Munich! Lots of shops and great food, and don’t forget while you’re there to visit the Allianz arena home of the Bayern Munich Soccer team. This square near the holy cathedral of Marienplatz is very crowded and has a feel of a busy Times Square I’m a different flavor. You’ll love this city

This is where the Christmas Magic happens! Marienplatz, located in the heart of Munich, Germany, is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and historical significance. The stunning architecture, particularly the New Town Hall with its famous Glockenspiel and commendable. Visitors can enjoy the lively ambiance, with street performers, markets, and various shops nearby. The square's central location makes it convenient for tourists to explore other attractions as well. However, during peak times, it can get crowded, impacting the overall experience for some visitors. Overall, Marienplatz is highly recommended for its beauty, history, and lively atmosphere.

At noon and at five, go listen to the carillon, also known as the Glockenspiel am Marienplatz. The magnificent town hall may be dressed up with flowers or seasonal decorations. A beautiful 10 to 15-minute show will give you a perfect picture opportunity or excuse to take a beer in the square.

Magnificent square where the representing cathedral stands like a mother earth for Bavaria. Plays a short 6 mins soothing bell music with movements of carousell figurines twice a day. Marienplatz is considered city center of Munich. It has lot of historical buildings, churches, Museum in the nearby area. There is a great shopping street where you can find almost all the brands you want. This place is the one of the best Tourist attraction in Munich.

A pretty platz with a simple, striking Christmas tree during Christmas. The bells make a cool ambience when they’re ringing. Calm and worth of a city center.

An iconic area in Munich that is a must see. The New Town Hall with the Glockenspiel is totally worth waiting around to see! There are lots of fun places to eat, bakeries to get Bavarian pretzels, and souvenir places to get your beer steins while you wait.

Just perfect for enjoying your beer out in the open, there are many bars or cafe around. And of course… the expensive shopping nearby. Any brand you can think of, you will find it here.

Lovely historic city centre and incredible detail on this building. Be sure to catch the Glockenspiel performances at 11am and 12pm! Plenty to see in the surrounding area!

As usually across the whole Europe. The main square of any town is always beautiful with awesome architecture and a lot of local stores, bars, and restaurants. They are usually pricy but if somebody just wants to stay there for a while then they don't care at all. That experience isn't for every day but just as a visitors reason could be worthy. Basically, we enjoyed this place and we like it in any weather. Thank you 🤩

A great location the central square is so huge which is a good place to chill, dine, walk and shop. You will be enticed with a lot of historic architecture. A place to visit when your in Munich.

Beautiful and well laid out. Lots of places to look at and visit. A great meeting place as well. But too big if you don’t like open spaces, like all cities it’s impossible to navigate if you have any anxiety or agoraphobia etc. Cities have so much on offer, but everything is too big, too loud, too busy and too spacious. I enjoyed the beauty of the buildings as best I could, but it’s very overwhelming to be here as it’s a tourist hot spot.

Wonderful atmosphere, great shopping and food, nice historic buildings, a place to take photographs. Easily accessible from train. Usually good sales are on during different parts of the year. Small street food is also available.

St. Mary’s Column in the middle of the square gave the former market place its name. It’s a lovely and lively plaza surrounded by historical buildings, the old and new town hall, St Peter’s Church and numerous shops. Now it’s a home for the main Christmas Market which provides a colorful and joyful atmosphere. It’s a must visit place while in Munich.

This place is interesting! You should go. I loved the variety of food, music, bars, beers and shops. It looks beautiful with a lot of culture attached. Various events are held here. It depends on the season.

Essentially the centre of Munich. The architecture is breathtaking. A great place to meet. There are shops and places to eat in this area and it is always bustling with people and tourists, but despite this it’s definitely worth the visit. At 11am there is a puppet show and it’s definitely worth timing your visit to catch this.

This is the city's main square since 1158. Marienplatz is a popular tourist destination and is a great place to people-watch, shop, and eat. Marienplatz is a short walk from many of Munich's other popular tourist attractions. You will see many people including locals and tourists waiting here to see the amazing clock show at 5 pm daily.

An enchanting place. An impressive medieval cathedral, which is worth seeing stone by stone, a lot of restaurants and terraces in an environment with perfectly preserved and integrated medieval heritage. Superb ! Happy are those who live there day by day.

Marienplatz is a must-visit destination in Munich! This vibrant square is the heart of the city, pulsating with history, culture, and energy. The impressive architecture of the New Town Hall and the beautiful Mariensäule make for a stunning backdrop. It's a hub of activity, with bustling shops, cafes, and street performers entertaining passersby. Don't miss the famous Glockenspiel show, which delights spectators with its mechanical figurines and chiming bells. Marienplatz captures the essence of Munich and offers a memorable experience for visitors of all ages.

An amazing clock tower with so much ornate detail. It was very busy even on Monday, I would recommend you go on a weekday. The clock rings 3 times a day in the summer. 2 in the winter. Amazing sight to see nonetheless.

The old city center of Munich is a place you can sit, stand, watch for hours with ornate detail and people watching. Sadly we missed the final Glockenspiel show of the day (17:00) but there were plenty of other bells to enjoy throughout the hour.

The square serves as the heart of the city, bustling with activity and surrounded by historic landmarks. The centerpiece of Marienplatz is the awe-inspiring New Town Hall. Its towering spires and intricate Gothic design took my breath away. Watching the famous Glockenspiel come to life was a true delight. The square is filled with charming shops, cafes, and restaurants that lined its edges. From traditional Bavarian clothing stores to contemporary boutiques, there was something for every taste. Marienplatz square in Munich truly captured the essence of the city. Its historic charm, lively atmosphere, and central location make it an absolute must-visit. Whether you're a history buff, a shopaholic, a food enthusiast, or simply seeking an authentic Bavarian experience, Marienplatz square has it all.

A very nice European Central pedestrian Plaza. The famous Glockenspiel is located here. Many touristy restaurants and stores. Take almost any street out to find better, less expensive places to eat or sit at a cafe. Central to many Munich sites.

Amazing place to visit! The glockenspiel is a must see and if you can try to get a lift to the tower. You can see almost all of Munich. So many shoppes, restaurants, and street entertainers. Fun for all!

This is a very happening place to be. It's like a main shopping centre where you can find shops for everything you are looking for. When I visited, my main agenda was to get some souvenirs and chocolates for my family and friends and I did find some great stuff One advice is to reach this place ASAP, as the shops start closing early..~7-7:30 ish.. As this place has some beautiful buildings and streets, make sure to get some good pictures!

Beautiful platz, I arrived here just in time to listen to the Glockenspiel about at noon time. The area is walkable to many streets and places like cathedrals, Munich Residentz, old town and the station is just right underneath the Marienplatz. Would like to come back again sometime to explore more of Munich.

Heart of the Munich City. Every person visiting this beautiful city must have visited or passed through the Marienplatz.. city center of Munich. Most of the household items and all the shops are found here. Always a crowded place. It is definitely a safe place even though it's crowded. People are nice, they just care their own business. Place for all the young people to vibe around and spend nice time with the closed ones. Great place to pass time. Looks very beautiful during the spring 🌼 and summer 🌞⛱️ season. Nice tulips flowers 🌺🌹 are planted in this place.. everyday show time for the bell ringing amazes people and keeps them wait there and watch the show for few minutes.. no tickets and entrance fee are required. A lot of souvenir shops are found in this place .. highfi city area. Have fun visiting Munich Marienplatz.

Very nice square, we went up to the tower, you can see Munich 360 degrees, appreciating many nice places from a different point of view. The building is incredible, many floors connected by many stairs with many rooms you can visit with no limitation. Really nice also the moment when the clock "is telling" the history of Munich

  • 4/5 Ahmad A. 8 months ago on Google
It's a very interesting platform or a square. Activities happening around and shopping area at the same time. You can enjoy a sandwich 🥪 or a cup of coffee ☕️. Almost 3 shopping malls close to each other around the Marienplatz. Life start around 9:30 am and goes up to 8:30 pm.

Marienplatz is an impressive piece of German (Munich's) architecture and underlying rich history. I can not help but be awed by the underlying history of the place unfolding over several centuries and involving so many notable personages! Fast forward to the modern times, we enjoyed the engaging chimes and dance of the Rathaus-Glockenspiel making for a wholesome levity of the stories behind the place.

If you're in Munich, definitely plan to take some time to visit the Marienplatz. This main plaza has lots to see and do. Around it, you'll find many bars and restaurants. Also, it's most famous for the clock tower with dancing figurines. I'd highly suggest watching this if you get the chance.

Really enjoyed watching the Glockenspiel of the Town Hall, runs at 11, 12 and 5 during our holiday to Munich. We also paid for the lift to take us up the tower of the Town Hall, I think we paid 6 euros each, the spectacular view was worth it.

Majestic town square and the town hall building is magnificent. You can go all the way up the rauthaus to get a panoramic view of Munich city. There are numerous restaurants and peppy cafes around along with clothing outlets. The great Haufbraubaus is situated just a few mitres from this place.

A nice central plaza that lies in the heart if the city connecting between its main streets and shopping malls. You can sit there for the whole day enjoying the traditional bakery and watching the freelancer artists doing their musical performance. Got money to waste ? You can do all your shopping from the near by shops. Apple is by the corner😍.

This place is incredible, you could stare at this building all day and still not see all the details. We went back to see the glockenspiel, at 5pm. The building could not be any more impressive. The performances in the square were entertaining too. It's definitely a spot you don't want to miss if you are in Munich. The train will take you directly there if you aren't in walking distance. There are many restaurants and shops nearby.

A great feature of Munich with some good history behind it. I’d recommend a tour with OzTour Munich. At 11am, 12pm and 5pm you can see the bell tower come into action with song and moving statues.

Main square. Very beautiful architecture, with non-standard design of balconies and stained glass windows. Each part of the buildings is unique in its own way. When you stand on this square, you temporarily forget that today is the 21st century - the surrounding environment takes you to the Middle Ages, the time of knights. This square is truly the historical center of Munich.

  • 5/5 Mitch S. 5 months ago on Google
Beautiful Gothic feel structure with amazing glockenspiel figurines. Square is very busy. Recommend for best photos visit early morning before the tourists ate awake!

Super nice place for a stroll. Even cuter with the Christmas decorations. If you want to have a better view over the square, just go on top of the tower in front of it!

A must visit area if you travel to Munich! We were here in December for the Christmas markets. It was extra beautiful due to the snow that had fallen a few days previously. Lots of vendors and food options! Some we saw at other markets around the area but many were unique to this one. It’s pretty crowded during the daytime, but even more so at night. It’s beautiful at night though - you have to check it out. Good subway access which makes it easy to get to from anywhere in the city. Pro tip: The Glockenspiel goes at 11am and 12pm. Cool to see at least once.

The lively, bustling heart of Munich with picture perfect views of the town hall as well as the surrounding architecture. Easy to access through public transport, or just by walking. Plenty of shopping and dining options, though the former becomes limited on Sundays.
