What a fascinating and remarkable place this is. Was really amazed to see the detailed work carved on all these buildings in this famous square. The buildings are about 400 years old but they will still give you the most amazing aesthetic view. You could go any time and stay around to get the beautiful vibes from this place. Loved it and is must visit place.

This is a must visit in Brussels. This should be one of the most beautiful city squares in the whole world. It's more beautiful at night when all the buildings are lit up. Place is surrounded by beautiful historical buildings and restaurants. It's a nice experience to have a meal at a restaurant here while enjoying the magnificent view of the Square.

The Grand Place of Brussels is so beautiful during Christmas. The decoration is nice and we really enjoyed the light show. Usually is full of tourist but you can find a nice spot to take some amazing photos. The medieval buildings will make your photoshooting an unforgettable experience!! 2022.05.05 We visited the Grand Place multiple times. Daytime and nighttime. Lovely to see and spend some time to look and enjoy the architecture of the buildings. Incredible view and lovely. A must see when in Brussels. Many cafes and restaurants in the area especially if you want Belgian Fries, Waffles, Chocolate, Ice cream and definitely beer.

As the name states, this place truly is grand. The place is lively with markets, restaurants and people. Not to mention the fantastic architecture of the buildings. It is definitely worth spending more than a day just going over all the places that this spot has to offer.

Fantastic place to pause and enjoy the architecture after walking around town. My favorite activity here is to just grab a drink and people watch! Make sure you visit once during the day and again at night because the buildings are gorgeous when they are lit up.

From small alleys when you enter into Grand Palace square, it opens up into a true grand view with huge palace structures all around you! amazing architecture and those shining golden color towers adds greatly to the magnificent architecture. Wonderful place to take insta pics and fine outside dining bars and cafes.

Such a beautiful square with stunning architecture. Perfect photo opportunities and if you’re there in the evening with all the buildings light up, it’s very special. Plenty of cafes are on the square. Enjoy a meal and sit outside to do some great people watching.

Magical! At least maybe because I came during the Christmas time. People came to see a light show, and this place definitely can hold a crowd. There are many restaurants in the vicinity, which is nice.

The heart of the Brussels city centre. Very charming both at night and by day. Tends to be very crowded by day, so look out for pick pockets. I recommend coming there by night, as the buildings are illuminated beautifully

This place is really magnificent! The best time to visit could be in the morning so as not to take photos against the light. This place also shows off a wonderful view at night or in the evening! 🤩 PS! I could stay here for an hour long to eat sandwich or fries while surrounded with these grandiose work of art!

This place have unique and historical architecture! So amazed by them. Most of the buildings are painted in gold leaves that always maintain every 2 years. If you come to Brussels, please take the free city tour where you can learn about thr history of Brussels for 2 hours and it's definitely worth it! Love the city so much, I would like to come back

Stunning grand place! The guild houses are beautiful! Check out the town halls architecture. At first sight it look symmetrical but if you look closer nothing is symmetrical. The plaza is also used for open air events. When we were there the Jazz festival was taking place. Definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful square with an amazing history located in the centre of Brussels. The square is busy, and is often a venue for concerts. The architecture here is astounding. The square is home to the town hall, the city museum, houses, restaurants and more. It is especially pretty at night time, when all the buildings are lit up. A must see if staying in Brussels.

It has to be one of the most beautiful squares in Belgium as well as in all of Europe. Really stunning decorations and guildhalls. Brussels is honestly a filthy place and I felt unsafe there, but this square is the saving grace of the city. If you only have two hours tops in Brussels or you can only stomach the city for a short time, this place makes it worth it.

I was walking around Brussels, unexpectedly I came across this square and I was pleasantly surprised. The whole square is surrounded by beautiful buildings in the Gothic style, while the town hall with its huge tower commands respect. When I was observing and photographing the architecture, it turned out that there will be a show of colored lights, I photographed everything and recorded a video.

The buildings are so beautiful in the daylight and absolutely stunning when lit up at night! There were so many people in the square at night it was hard to really enjoy the sights unless you’re able to block out all the chaos around and be present in the moment; however we were visiting on a Saturday night! A must do in Belgium!

The square looked very nice, with lots of historical buildings surrounding it including impressive architectural details. However, it just seemed to be full of people standing around waiting for tours etc. There weren't really any cafés or tables to sit and enjoy the views/Belgian food. It was also a bit smelly and there was lots of rubbish on the ground and overflowing bins, which was strange because we visited early on a Sunday morning, so the rubbish hadn't been cleaned up from the day before! It has the potential to be a great place to visit, but at the moment it's just mediocre.

Grand Palace in Brussels is an architectural masterpiece that leaves an indelible mark on every visitor. The square's grandeur and historical significance make it an absolute must-see in the heart of Brussels. The intricate detailing on the buildings, adorned with stunning sculptures and ornate facades, is a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage. The vibrancy of the square, surrounded by opulent guildhalls and the impressive Town Hall, creates a captivating atmosphere. Whether you're strolling through the cobblestone streets during the day or marveling at the beautifully illuminated square by night, Grand Palace exudes a timeless charm. The square's role as a hub for events and festivities adds to its allure. A visit to Brussels is incomplete without experiencing the grandeur of Grand Palace—a true architectural jewel that encapsulates the spirit of this enchanting city.

Amazing example of the 19th century classic architecture ! I visited once before in in 1999 ! The place was fantastic loved with restaurants that was taking a lot from the beauty of the place ! There is only one or two restaurants now and the visibility of the buildings are significantly better ! One hours should be more than enough to walk around the place and the surrounding area

Well it’s definitely called “Grand Place” for a reason. It’s quite the tourist destination in Belgium. The architectural designs of the buildings are just a marvellous site to behold. Each building is either a restaurant, chocolate shop outlet or some other kind of interesting store. The entire square area is massive and it’s really just a beautiful site. The Christmas lights were a great addition.

Been here a few times and every time we visit we are blown away by the stunning architecture! It's a free area to wander round. There are a few bar / restaurants here where you can sit outside to take in the views and atmosphere. Granted the prices are a little higher than other areas, but it's worth it for the setting you're in. At Christmas they put on a sound and light display (free to watch) every circa hour, this years show we didn't find as 'christmassy' as previous years, but it was still lovely to watch. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

I am a local & proud to share that grand place has always some or the other thing for all. The beautiful guild buildings stand pretty and looks stunning during night time . Several great heritage shops & restaurants bars around. It’s a safe place to take stroll solo also. It’s truly the beating heart of Brussels city . You can expect some live bands playing & more activities during spring summer .

You can walk around here for free, some of the buildings offer tours. We reserved a free tour for the area, which was informative but a bit long if you’re in a hurry or have small kids. If you’re handy with walking directions with Google maps and know what you want to see, you likely won’t need the tour, but if you’re not sure the tour is a good idea.

It is one of the best ancient squares in Brussels. It’s extremely crowded most of the time except during early mornings. Be aware that there are a lot of Pick pocketer around this place therefore make sure you keep your valuables at the hotel or with you carefully.

Went this place in December 2020, exactly before the pandemic. It’s truly beautiful and lovely place in the heart of the city. It’s also considered one of the most beautiful medieval square in Europe. Many buildings from 17th or 18th century are still well preserved. There’s a huge lovely Christmas tree, very beautiful in the night time together with the light show. Note : During the festive season, the sound and the light are part of the Winter Wonder where the 360 sound and light show take place on the facade of the Grand Place as well as Town Hall.

The Grand Place (French, pronounced [ɡʁɑ̃ plas]; "Grand Square"; also used in English) or Grote Markt (Dutch, pronounced [ˌɣroːtə ˈmɑrkt] (About this soundlisten); "Grand Market") is the central square of Brussels, Belgium. It is surrounded by opulent guildhalls and two larger edifices, the city's Town Hall, and the King's House or Breadhouse (French: Maison du Roi, Dutch: Broodhuis) building containing the Brussels City Museum. The square measures 68 by 110 metres (223 by 361 ft). The Grand Place is the most important tourist destination and most memorable landmark in Brussels. It is also considered as one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. In the 10th century, Charles, Duke of Lower Lorraine constructed a fort on Saint-Géry Island, the furthest inland point at which the Senne river was still navigable. This was the seed of what would become Brussels. By the end of the 11th century, an open-air marketplace was set up on a dried-up marsh near the fort that was surrounded by sandbanks. The market was called the Nedermerckt (meaning "Lower Market" in Old Dutch).[9] The market likely developed around the same time as Brussels' commercial development. A document from 1174 mentions a lower market (Latin: forum inferius) not far from the port on the Senne river. The market was well situated along the Causeway (Dutch: Steenweg), an important commercial road which connected the prosperous regions of the Rhineland and the County of Flanders. At the beginning of the 13th century, three indoor markets were built on the northern edge of the Grand Place; a meat market, a bread market, and a cloth market.[9] These buildings, which belonged to the Duke of Brabant, allowed the wares to be showcased even in bad weather, but also allowed the Dukes to keep track of the storage and sale of goods, in order to collect taxes. Other buildings, made of wood or stone, enclosed the Grand Place - Wikipedia

Beautiful and very historical place to visit especially in December when sound with light show running on each day. That is awesome to see and the environment really cool. Amazing historical place, normally crowded. Each building, except town hall(white building with tower) and opposite to it - house of King, are houses of guilds. After war with France in the end of XVII century exactly guilds helped to reconstruct Grand Place and each of this guild received honor to have it's house on the main square. Each building is unique, has the year of completion on it and it's symbol on the facade.

N.B.: Non mancate la visita serale della piazza illuminata a giorno, sublime! English below Take a 360-degree turn on yourself in this, to say the least, a splendid square, a UNESCO heritage site: you will feel constantly observed, at the center of attention of the many windows that structure the houses of the guilds, the Hotel de Ville and the Maison du Roi that surround it; it will be a warm and brilliant look with the curlicues in solid gold that at times embroider and adorn them. Your gaze will be captivated by this square to discover all its facets, its majesty, its color on the occasion of the usual flower market or, if you are lucky like me, attend the celebration of a wedding (the spouses are beautiful and very happy , I allowed myself to immortalize their happiness in a couple of shots). From this square there is an innumerable choice of ways to go, obviously do them all to be able to see famous monuments, markets, biscuits, chocolate shops à gogo (never seen so many macarones all together) ... a watering! Shops, breweries, murals: the fun, the color, the variety, the beauty of everything you will encounter is guaranteed! N.B .: Do not miss the evening visit of the square illuminated by day, sublime!

Grand Place is the go to place for a first timer in Brussels so it was for me as well but I must say it only made me happy. The place is surrounded by ancient buildings which have an overall modern look. There are night shows here during festivals. There was a Light show dedicated to the covid bravehearts.. Beautiful place..

The only question I have is why don't people talk about Brussels like Vienna or Prague. We fell in love! What an amazing place! It was pouring and we didn't care. The vibe, multicultural diversity, artistic heritage, blended perfectly with a perfect weekend getaway.

You can visit the place for free. We visited this place when we went to Brussels in October 2021. We saw some people fid not wear their mask but we kept wear our masks. We can see some beautiful buildings in this place. At night everything turned even more beautiful. They have some restaurants for people to enjoy their day. It is difficult to find place to sit. So, it is standing place. The place is easy to reach by tourists maps. We walked from Brussels metro station to this place and took around 15 minutes.

Gorgeous rain or shine. The gold additions on the buildings really make the buildings glint. The shops and restaurants in the square add great atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Patrick M. 1 year ago on Google
Stunning architecture and architectural designs. I could have spent all day in the square people watching and just looking at the building. At night they light up with different colors. There are plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants in and around the buildings. The train is about a 5-10 minute walk down the street, which is a huge added bonus.

  • 5/5 Jas 1 year ago on Google
Words cannot describe how jaw dropping this area is. The amount of work put into these buildings, all the statues. It is amazing seeing this. The buildings are so tall it almost makes you dizzy looking up from the bottom. And the museum here has a lot of great information and a walk through tour you can do on your phone.

It’s an absolutely stunning and must visit major attraction in Brussels. The historical buildings surround the huge plaza. The gilded facade and architectural details of each single building really bring back the old charm and beauty. The place is vibrant. There are restaurants and cafes surrounded. As well as city hall and city museum. On the day when I visited, there was a sport game there. People were enjoying the game and the atmosphere.

Lovely hotel. For me and my travels, the most important points that matter to me are obviously the location, followed by the quietness and comfort of the room provided. Walking into a clean, welcoming room, I next think, "Can I make a hot drink? Is there water?" On this occasion, there was not only water, but also a welcoming bottle of red wine. Very nice. Staff were fantastic. Hotel facilities are again fantastic (wicked roof bar), but for me, the best and most appreciated aspect of my stay was the breakfast. Now I know that all sounds like it's all about the food and drink, but...when you are away for work, you can't beat a proper breakfast to start your day. May be it was the titanic style presentation and the three or four well dressed staff In attendance that made it so welcoming, but definitely that cooked was better than anything I've had in my previous week of training. I suppose the only thing I didn't like was the small bath in the room. Apart from that, I definitely look forward to my next stay

The central square of the City of Brussels, 68 x 100 meters. Considered one of the most beautiful city squares in the world. A UNESCO World Heritage site. The square is entirely surrounded by impressive historic buildings and absolutely worth visiting. If you drive here, use Grand Place underground parking (under Ibis hotel). It is reasonably priced and conveniently in the old town, 300 m from the square.

This seems to be the main place to visit when in Brussels. It was packed with tourists every time we passed through. The building are all excellent to look at, with really interesting external details. You can easily get from here to other attractions by walking (the inner centre isn't huge). Loads of Cafes/waffles/Chocolate and lager/beer in the surroundings.

The Grand Place in Belgium receives overwhelmingly positive reviews from visitors. Many praise its stunning architecture, the intricate details of the guildhalls, and the overall atmosphere of the square. Visitors often describe it as breathtaking, awe-inspiring, and a must-see attraction in Brussels. However, some visitors note that it can get quite crowded, especially during peak tourist seasons, which may impact the experience. Additionally, some nearby restaurants and shops tend to be on the pricier side due to the high tourist traffic. Overall, the Grand Place is highly recommended for its historical and cultural significance, making it a highlight of any trip to Brussels.

Majestic Marvel in the Heart of Brussels My visit to Grand Place in Brussels was nothing short of enchanting. The UNESCO World Heritage site exudes grandeur with its opulent guildhalls and the stunning Town Hall. The intricate detailing of the architecture, especially during the evening light show, is awe-inspiring. The vibrant flower carpet, a testament to creativity, added a burst of color to the historical square. Surrounded by charming cafes, this central hub is a must-visit for anyone exploring Brussels. Grand Place truly captures the essence of the city's rich history and cultural charm.

This palace holds a lot of history, and apart from that, I think it's a place you have to visit once in a lifetime. It is very lively, beautiful, and cultural. I love that there are a lot of people, tourists and friendly nationals. The most beautiful thing is turning around and finding a store to get chocolate 🍫 which I recommend you get from Godiva, with their history from 1926. I did visit this place hurriedly and I hope I'll have the pleasure of coming here again. Until then, aurevoir.
