I don’t leave negative reviews unless it’s truly warranted. This is my experience: I am very surprised by the lack of customer service skills shown by the employees, as well as the servers (serving food while the table was full of previous dishes - literally had to assist in helping clear our table). Hostess was absolutely terrible - didn’t welcome us. I told her the name on the reservation and her only response was (there’s no seating inside, only outside) very windy at the time and no one else was outside. She didn’t try to provide any other solutions or estimated wait time for inside - just a take it or leave attitude. Very unwelcoming. Great ambiance with lots of potential, if the food was good. Prices are comparable or above Miro Kaimuki but NOWHERE close to similar quality. The quality here is similar to a Carnival Cruise line dinner - if we were in the 80s. Good food presentation but nothing special about the dishes. The fish was slightly dry / over cooked. Wanted to like it but extremely disappointed. Due to the mediocre food and lack of service… I would not recommend.

Food is on the pricey side, but the experience was worth it. Fusion of Asian spices with European flare will take you to a journey of flavor. Ambiance and vibe of the dining room was comfy and perfect for a nice dinner. The cheesecake was the best Cheesecake I have ever eaten. They also accommodate for special celebrations with a free dessert. Definitely will go back.

Amazing atmosphere and location. You must pay to park so bring cash for the valet. The food was very interesting as a fusion Asian twist on traditional dishes. Me and my wife celebrated our anniversary here and would love to come back. Also the duck tacos are the best appetizer I have had in a long time.

I came here after reading many positive reviews from different websites and this restaurant did not let me down. We very much enjoyed everything we’ve ordered here. What I loved particularly was the appetizer sampler, everything was innovative and extreme delicious, especially the foie gras form one and the duck meat taco. For the entree, I highly recommend the scallop risottos. The scallops were very juicy and blends perfectly well with the risottos. The server here was very professional and helpful, giving us great recommendations for drinks and dessert. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, make sure you grab a reservation ahead of time.

The experience in a whole was amazing! It was the best part of my day, great way to end my Birthday celebration. All the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and kind. The desert was complimentary for my birthday and the wine was recommended, after explaining what I was interested in having, and turned out to be the perfect find. I had the Oxtail as my main course and it was so amazing! I honestly get it on every yearly visit from another subsidiary location but chose here this one time due to the other location discontinuing the dish. It was even better (tasted just as great, but larger portion) than I remember from previous years. From the starter tray there was a peanut sauce I will return specifically for next year! Love it!

Excellent service! Our waiter was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The food is delicious. I appreciate the pairings in the meals such as the chutney with the crab cakes and the salsa with the wontons. The food was delicious, although I would actually come back for the friendly welcoming service. They are more welcoming than our hotel!

Great food and cocktails. The bonus $6 valet parking was amazing. So reasonable and convenient. The waiter was knowledgeable of the menu and able to speak on all items ingredient and flavors. Crab cakes and smoked duck taco appetizer were great. The filet was melt in your mouth. Definitely recommend you check this place out.

What a wonderful dining experience! After a long day of traveling, we wanted only to relax and have some nice food, and Chef Chai certainly delivered. The appetizer sampler is perfect for two, with the foie gras mousse being a true highlight. The menu also features a variety of dishes showcasing high quality seafood and delicate fusion flavors. We settled on the scallops and oxtail soup, which were both very satisfying. I recommend this restaurant for a classy and romantic atmosphere and a bold menu.

Chef Chai's restaurant has been a staple in Hawaii for many decades. His food is not only pretty for photos, but most importantly, delicious. I would highly recommend the wrapped prawns in the appetizer sampler - they were absolutely heavenly. If they have the full fried fish on the day you are there, I would definitely recommend ordering it without hesitation. Chef Chai's wait staff are elegant and incredibly knowledgeable - they really added to the dining experience. Overall, my mouth was watering throughout the meal and I left feeling very satisfied. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Hawaii!

We happened upon Chef Chai when our docent at the Honolulu museum of Art suggested we celebrate our anniversary there. A quick Google and we made reservations for the Early Bird dinner. We found Chef Chai to be an easy stroll from the Art Museum. We got there exactly on time 4 pm, at there opening. We were first in line. They showed us to our table. It was so easy they have a Per Fixe special. All we needed to do was to choose our entree from a short list. Then the Amazing culinary extravaganza began! The service was perfect, the ambience was modern, the bathrooms were gorgeous, and my wife was beautiful. When you make your reservation tell them Joe sent you...they will say Joe Who...that's me 😀

First time at Chef Chai's. We were very impressed from start to finish. We had a family birthday and had reservation for an early Sunday dinner. The had a early bird special that offered a great variety to choose from. My wife chose the salmon and I had the Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom Foie Gras Puff. You get a awesome 5 item appetizers something for everyone. Desert is also part of the early bird special a Heart Shaped White Chocolate Gelato with Fresh Raspberry Guava Puree. We will definitely be back to try the regular menu.

Went to this lovely restaurant to celebrate my 21st birthday and it was perfect. The food was amazing as well as the drinks and the service. Everything that we ordered was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the drinks were very tasty as well (including the mocktails!) Robert Cazimero performed live on the piano with some hula dancers, and it was beautiful. I really couldn't have asked for a more perfect birthday. There was valet parking for $7 I believe, and even they were so sweet. I will definitely be coming back to Chef Chai's for my next celebration! Thank you to everyone who made my 21st so memorable :)

Fantastic dining experience with an amazing wait staff led by our server Kristy who was attentive, courteous and knowledgeable. The Hokkaido scallops were delicious especially the lobster reduction. And the crispy whole fresh red snapper in chili garlic sauce was juicy and crunchy with succulent meat. We highly recommend Chef Chai to celebrate a special occasion with a very memorable dining experience.

Food was great but the Tasting Menu might have been too much for us. I was also confused by the underwhelming and dry chicken satay and peanut sauce after a very nice appetizer spread.

Service was excellent! Our waiter was very attentive and knew the menu very well and gave us great recommendations. My boyfriend said it was the best rack of lamb he has ever had.

Service was wonderful our server Dustin N was very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious. I highly recommend this very nice restaurant. Parking is very confusing so I suggest using their parking garage right next to restaurant and paying the $6.00 for parking it's worth it.

Great food. Everything was delicious. Marked down one star because we felt rushed out. We went for dinner and they didn't close until 10pm jeweler we were the last party around 915 and everyone began circling our table. It made up feel a little uncomfortable, so we cut our conversation short and left. But again, the food was delicious.

We picked this restaurant as our gourmet meal in Oahu (we mostly toured the island). Food was good but there was 3 main issues : - Service was not up to par for the price paid - Appetizers were tiny! My mom even thought it was the Amuse-Bouches. - there were 2 large groups and one had a huge table that was square. Not very classy!

Our world food tour continued at Chef Chai, in the Pacifica condo. It was dinner before heading over to the concert hall to hear and see Final Fantasy VII: Remake. Thus, dinner was at 5pm and the place was already almost full. I guess others had the same idea. On the way back we saw that there was an event at the arena … no wonder the restaurants nearby were busy. We started with a bottle of 2012 Latour Gevrey-Chambertin from Burgundy; a nice wine that opened up after being decanted. To me, a good buy at $120 (around $60 in the wine store). Our server brought a tray of pita bread and skewers of chicken satay … a nice start. We ordered the Toasted brioche with Chilled Foie Gras Mousse and Berries Confit and the Smoked Duck Breast Taco after learning that they did not have the Hamakua Mushroom and Black Truffle Risotto Cakes. The foie gras mousse was okay but I didn’t get much hint of the berries confit. The toasted brioche was the best part of the dish. The duck tacos were very subtly flavored; they came on a puree of avocado … I added the avocado to the taco to enhance the flavors. Our entrees were the Miso Chilean Sea Bass with pickled vegetables and the Grilled Mongolian Style Lamb Chops with Brandy demi. The sea bass came as a steak cut; I’ve never had sea bass served in this cut. The miso sauce was subtle … I thought this tasted more like misoyaki butterfish than sea bass but I liked the dish. The lamb came as two double chops atop mashed potatoes and a mélange of vegetables. It was great but somewhat difficult to cut for my tablemate. Chai doesn’t have steak knives so I cut the chop for her. We couldn’t determine the spices …. I thought there was star anise. It was very good. As we were heard to the concert hall, we skipped dessert and I finished the meal with a cup of coffee. It was fine though I would have preferred a slightly stronger roast. My thoughts? I’ve been to Chai many times but it’s been a few years … for me the appetizers weren’t flavorful enough; I think they need to tweak the recipes a touch. Service was fine in spite of the restaurant being full. IMO, it’s a good but not outstanding restaurant.

Everything was delicious, we had excellent service. We had issues with our parking at our hotel and I was worried about making the reservation but when I called they simply said " we will see you when you get here" they even had a meal for our children. I absolutely loved every minute of our dinner at Chef Chai.

Because of the price I'm going with 3 instead of 4 stars. Our group did the pre fixe menu. The appetizer sampler was satisfying. My cocktail was also satisfying. They dressed the oysters up way too much in order to cover up the fact that they're ultra tiny and flavorless. The sea bass entre was tiiiiiiny served with essentially plain white rice. It was very tasty though. The cheesecake was absolutely not cheesecake. More like the driest tres leches of all time. The servers kind of rushed us to finish the appetizers. I thought it was cause the entrees we're ready but they weren't anywhere close to ready. I don't think they started them until they cleared our plates. The overall meal was just really inconsistent.

The food, fantastic. The staff, awesome. I would give it a full 5 stars except the area we were is was a little hot. It was an inside corner with not enough air circulation in that area and the restroom was small and a bit dirty. But really, small points when the overall experience was amazing. My wife and I went for our wedding anniversary which happened to fall on Father's day this year, so was a nice evening out for us.

Took my wife here to celebrate her 40th birthday and Chef Chai did not disappoint. First off, the complimentary chicken satay with peanut sauce, cucumbers, and pita bread was 🔥. I love peanut sauce and this stuff was so good I wanted to eat it with a spoon. Secondly, we ordered the risotto cakes as an appetizer. The cakes were delicious and the red sauce was delectable. For our main course, my wife got the king salmon with pineapple relish and I got the crispy whole fresh catch with chili ginger sauce. I can't describe how tasty the chili ginger sauce was and the crispy fresh fish was the best fish I've ever had. This place is a great establishment and we received tremendous service along with the great food.
