Nice, Clean beach. Can get very busy and crowded but most traffic is moving unless some privileged person or family stops right on the walk/run path while they see all the traffic flowing. The pathway is narrow when groups of 3 try to walk beside each other, people should only walk in 2s to be respectful when it's busy but they don't. The beach itself is huge and there's enough space for everyone. We saw people that look like regular civilians cleaning the beach. That was nice. We ran from the Army museum and to the right to do the loop and it was about 1.50 miles.. nice run if you do it early, not a lot of traffic. You can watch the sunrise easily from the pier. Located right by the military hotel.

Love the park because it is federal property and not actually Honolulu. Large stretch of land from the ocean to the hotels. I really enjoy their beach because it isn't really crowded...no good parking close. Just walk a couple minutes from Hilton Hawaiian Village toward Diamond Head and you are there. Also, check out the museum.

This park has everything you need, parking, restaurants, bistros, cafe, museum, beach, shade under trees, picnic areas, restrooms, and at the same time it is nicely landscaped, there is enough space for everyone and it is close to the most important POIs in the area.

Well the Feds took over the land and subcontracted maintenance to the connected hotel. Some really beautiful open area and some cool foliage. We walked the beach area (open to dogs on a leash) and enjoyed the sunset. Went back several times during the week stay. This is just a peaceful area, very well maintained and secure.

This is a beautiful place to hang out on the beach, snorkel with the fish and turtles, watch the sunset, and there's a great little beach bar right there.

This park is great for a lot of reasons. My personal favorite being the sunset view. Also a great spot to watch the fireworks on Friday nights. Big grass area near by with lots of trees for some shade when you need a break from the sun.

Extremely walkable, food and treats in some spots along the beach. Cool military vehicles parked outside you can see, a good place to throw a Frisbee or play catch. In the water there's a lot of coral and rocks by the drop off but still fun.

Waikiki sand and sun. Sandy bottoms turn to rocky or reef like bottoms fairly quickly. The beach park has full facility and food stands are available till 7:30pm. The park itself is well maintained and represents a wide variety of Hawaii’s flora.

Found it to be less crowded than Waikiki beach. The park has picnic benches and BBQ pits. And ample room to place your blankets out and take a nap or enjoy a good book. Its quiet and calm. Excellent stretch of beach to visit.

This park/beach was more peaceful than I expected. Highly recommended for those visiting honolulu. However, there are more peaceful and private beaches for those willing to travel a little.

In between two hotels next to the beach is this nice open park that has an Army museum on site. The area has expanses of nice lawn and some gorgeous trees. Seems a popular passageway to get to the beach without snaking through hotels. Lots of shady spots. The beach is narrow but a nice less crowded section it seemed. Military hotel is to one side. The Army museum used to be a bunker in the early a 1900 built to withstand bombardment. They tried it demolish it but it was not possible so they made a museum.

The park seems to be popular with local families barbequing and has a beach bar, a good food stand, a good ice cream stand, and some shops. The beach is small, but the sunset view with the palm trees to the east is beautiful. I highly recommend the local beer at the bar, not so much the mixed drinks, the food and ice cream at the stands and the view at sunset.

Easy access, parking lot available across the street. Food, drinks and umbrellas and water sports equipment rentals at the ready. The water is shallow for young ones and there’s a pier to walk along - great for families. Crowded, so if you prefer less people this not the beach for you. Park Next door for picnics

Definitely a great Beach to experience. I don't think you could go wrong with any beach around this area, but if I recommend one it might be this one. I believe there were some restrooms close by and the waves were not huge. So if you wanted to go out a little ways you could. Take your kiddos and enjoy life!

I always love visiting here. It's a beautiful park but more importantly, I love the museum. It's a must see and an easy walk from any hotel on Waikiki.

Fort DeRussy Beach Park makes up the series of beaches popularly known as and collectively called the Waikiki Beaches. Together, than span a distance of an estimate of over a mile from Queens Beach to the southeast to the beach well to the west fronting the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Each beach, which makes up the collection of Waikiki Beaches, boasts it's own distinct character and qualities. Yet, as one walks along the shoreline, it's difficult to accurately know, where one beach ends and the adjacent beach begins. They all blend togrther. Eajoy and experience each inviting setting.

We discovered that we can walk along the water's edge for over a mile, passing each resort along the way. The path is sketchy as you pass each hotel, but you can meander your way through some of the properties and keep going along the waterfront. A grand Waikiki explore!

I miss the playground, benches & bbq's at Duke's park, as well as the volleyball nets, but overall Fort DeRussy is still an amazing haven in Waikiki with great facilities, green space and museum.

Great place for sunset or a beach day. Lots of shade and areas for bbq. Sidewalk that takes you down the beach makes it easy to roll your stuff. Great spot (there arent any bad ones in Waikiki)

Swim and enjoy the backdrop of Diamond Head. Relatively safe, little bit of a current, less crowded, and be sure to have water shoes. Snorkeling - not really that great, not a ton of fish. BUT - did run into a turtle and watched her eat for about 15 minutes. That made up for it. Good area to sunbathe, restroom available, and wash of area afterwards.

Beautiful beach! Tried to walk on the beautiful sand but it was too hot! Me and hubby took a great stroll and just enjoyed life and the scenery. Always a great breeze even during the day when it's really hot!

Beautiful beach and beautiful view. Water is calm and the jetty makes for some good snorkeling. They have a public restroom and a shower. Also, less people here than Waikiki and a good spot for watching sunset and the gorgeous diamond head. However, bring water shoes. It is very rocky and some of them are sharp. There is a place where you can rent an umbrella and some recliners you can lay on. It is next to steak shack, they also offer SUP rentals and surf lessons. You know the beautiful sunset?? It drive choke of people here.

The park includes the amazing Army museum that is very very expansive and informative. Best museum I've ever been to. The paths have these plants where you can see snails crawling on the leaves. A lot of active military and vets around here because of the military only hotel nearby. If you're into the military you'll get to see a lot of military personnel in uniform. The beach is secluded and has a straight walkway along the beach. Gets pretty crowded since there are multiple hotels literally on the beach but it wasnt bad. Beach has a volleyball net that was packed with players.

Peaceful, quiet, plenty of space when we went. Beautiful sunset. There's picnic tables, restrooms, rinse area - a couple missing shower heads - I did not see beach chair rentals on this side. There's grass area for picnics as well.

Quiet compared the main Waikiki beach. There is plenty of space on the park to sit and watch the sunset but if you want to sit on the sand go before 5 pm. The water is calm to swim but lots of rocks make it hard to just play in the water.

  • 5/5 Brad C. 3 years ago on Google
This is a much more laid back and secluded beach compared to Waikiki Beach. There is a boardwalk that extends the distance of the beach. Multiple rinsing stations. Google maps shows a functional boardwalk from Derussy Beach Park heading south to Waikiki Beach . There is absolutely NOT a functional walkway! Derussy had a very tame tide while we were there, nice place to view the sunset in late January, swim, and play around. Covid had visitor numbers at a fraction of normal traffic (according to a local).
