I'll start by saying the staff deserves 5 stars. They are helpful and friendly and really made the trip enjoyable. My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and the staff was quick to upgrade our room to a higher floor, and gave us a voucher for 2 free drinks and pastries at the bakery, both were very tasty. This was our first time staying at a 5 star hotel, and I honestly didn't see a difference between a lower star hotel and this one. I was surprised to find that with the price we paid to stay here, nothing was included in our stay. Not even breakfast. When we went to get breakfast our first day, I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw they wanted like $32.00 for a basic omelet, and the food menu in general is teeny tiny. If you wanted beach chairs, you had to rent them at $60.00 a day, which is... insane. The walls to the rooms are paper thin. I was woken up every single day at 6 am by guests yelling to each other, and was woken up several times after midnight because someone thought it was appropriate to blast a harry potter movie. So quiet times are definitely not enforced here.  And even if someone was having a conversation at a normal volume, we heard that loud and clear as well. If you want to view this beautiful historic hotel, I would suggest staying elsewhere and walk around it for a bit. We did have a nice stay in Hawaii, but I wouldn't stay here again, I would go back to staying in a 3 star hotel because I honestly saw no difference between here or a 3 star hotel.

We stayed in a Mailani Tower high floor ocean front balcony room. The view was spectacular! If you plan to stay in Waikiki, the hotels are very expensive and you should lower your expectations for what to expect for your money. With that in-mind, we were still disappointed with our experience at The Royal Hawaiian. The hotel is a bit run-down, but that I can forgive since this is a sandy beach venue. I'm always friendly to all, but many people here seem angry and rude. Stock-up at a grocery store if you stay here. Room service is a standard expectation from hotels that claim to be 5* properties, but the Royal Hawaiian has none. So don't expect any nice dinners on your expensive balcony. Not many other food options and the coffee bar opens too late and has long lines. (-1*) We expect room darkening curtains from any hotel room, but the Royal Hawaiian does not have curtains or even binds. The windows have fixed slat louvered panels that don't even come close to blocking the light. Also, a very odd design choice for the wall-to-wall ocean view to be 40% blocked by sliding louvered panels. (-1*) I called the day before arrival to request early check-in, and was encouraged, but understood there were no guarantees. But on arrival, the front desk clerk chose to lecture me on when check-in time is, as if that point was somehow lost in the early check-in request. He said they he would call me when the room was ready. But no call. I found myself waiting in line again, showing ID again, and not-checking-in until well after check-in time. In the 3 hours that we were waiting for the call, I did notice that the suitcases from other waiting guest grew to a mountain, and none but ours were left by the time we received our keys. (-1*) I can't understand why any guest should ever need to request remote for the TV and a do-not-disturb placard for the door. Should be standard equipment in all rooms. We also stayed at a sister property 2 hotels down the beach and had the opposite experience. Strange contrast.

What can you say about the Pink Palace of the Pacific (the Pink Lady) — it’s an extraordinary hotel experience in a superb location offering essentially everything you want from a luxury resort. We stayed in the historic section because this is a historic landmark. Our room was excellent and the bed was wonderful. Our ocean view was just what we wanted. I’m confident the adjoining, more modern, high-rise tower offers the same. We had excellent food and service at both the Mai Tai Bar (more a beach cafe than a bar) and Azure Bar & Restaurant (more a restaurant than a bar). There are two pools, one is quite small and the other is shared with the Sheraton, but the draw, of course, is the ocean just steps away outside. Cabanas and beach/pool lounges can be reserved but you should do so in advance because they go quickly. The views are spectacular, with one of the best nighttime views of Waikiki available. The staff members were wonderful without exception. Staying here is not inexpensive but we felt like we got excellent value for what we paid. The nearby shopping opportunities are as good as you’ll find on Waikiki. The only things that weren’t five star were no room service, no true stand alone bar, and a troublesome valet parking experience (it took us almost 30 minutes for our early morning departure because the keys were in a such a tangled ball that we were asked to identify which set was ours (not easy for a rental) and the attendant had real difficulty getting them out of the tangled mess). These things were not enough to detract from our experience. We’d return here without hesitation.

Even when not staying here, my husband and I always make sure to stop by and spend an evening or two, or three, lol, in this historic, iconic, and absolutely beautiful hotel. The grounds are so green and lush, and so much fun to walk around, especially at night. With a private beach, and endless entertainment, it truly is a gem...a diamond to be specific. I would recommend this hotel to anyone! If you love historic buildings, this is definitely the place for you. My photos don't do the Royal Hawaiian; or otherwise known as the 'Pink Palace' justice, but hopefully they will allow you to get an idea of just how special this place is. Next year, we are staying here again; it's been way too long, and I will be sure to take lots of photos; hopefully even a video. 🌺

So as far as the hotel staff (not including restaurant/cafe) goes, 5 out of 5 stars. I thought it was kind of funny how they act like it's so fancy but it's literally just a Marriott. The problem with this place above all else, are the extra charges/fees. These are the notes I took during my stay: -You have to pay for airport shuttle. -The part of the building open to the beach opens to a small courtyard with the beach beyond it but there's a gate there it's always locked. You have to go around through the Sheraton pool to get there. Like, the whole point of a beach front hotel is easy access to the beach. It looks so pretty and inviting but then there's a locked gate. -Pool is super lame. You can use the Sheraton pool but that seems kind of silly when this is supposed to be such a fancy place. -Pool and room towels are not "luxury" at all. They're small and not plush. Room towels have been starched I think because they smell weird. -Nowhere to fill up a bottle of water (other than the gym). -No vending machine area which I guess is probably because they want to be fancy but where are you supposed to get a soda/snacks when the shops are closed. The store "accents" has a back area of some snacks and drinks, but it's really just gas station food. -No place to do laundry (you can however pay $10 to have them wash your pajamas). -Cafe does not have iced coffee. -The breakfast is crazy pricing, even the "continental breakfast" is $25. -Have to step into the shower to turn it on. -Toilet slams ridiculously loud and the flusher lever is flipped towards the wall. -Double towel rack so if you reach out of the shower to get a bath towel you inevitably pull the hand towel onto the floor. -No light in the entrance of the room which is where the two mirrors are. You can use the bathroom light but the door is weighted to close if you aren't holding it. -Wrist band room keys don't even work that well and are tacky. -No light in the closet. - Hanger in the closet had a little card talking about how great the robes are but there were no robes. -You have to call ahead for the valet to get your car. -Paying $55 a day to park the car when you already paid a resort fee and the cost of the stay.

Over rated and expensive. We paid over $1,000 a night and the room was outdated. Service was good and the bath robes were excellent. I liked the location but the rooms were too small and needed work. The beach was in a good location but you needed to reserve and pay for an umbrella and chair. The pool was too small for the size of the hotel. The stores in the hotel were great, the tiki bar restaurant was crowded and hard to find seats. Our air conditioner leaked on the floor, which was fixed in a timely matter but they didn’t comp any more than an apology for the inconvenience.

We stayed here for one night at the end of our trip in a historic king ocean view. The hotel is beautiful and I loved the room. The historic feel was great and it was nice to see the ocean. One of my bags broke upon arrival and a woman at the bell desk was very kind and ran and got me some ABC bags. The bellman that brought my bags to the room was so wonderful. Check in- I had checked in through the app the day before and requested an early check in which they accommodated and I was very grateful. The waterproof wrist bands as room keys are convenient for the beach. The activities calendar was nice to have. Rooms- I really enjoyed the historic wing. The rooms were clean and the detail on the doors was gorgeous. My only complaint is that the walls are paper thin and you can hear the people next door but luckily that wasn't too much of an issue and overall it felt secluded. Check out- We checked out at noon and reserved the refreshment room to use before our flight. This was a great convenience despite the group before us staying beyond their alloted time. It was nice to be able to shower before heading to the airport. It didn't seem super clean and you had to go to the shower area for paper towels in the toilet area but I could definitely live with those things to be able to have the this convenience before we left. Overall thoughts- I truly did like staying here because of how gorgeous the hotel was and how it felt secluded despite being near everything in Waikiki. I didn't give it 5 stars because I'm just not sure it is worth the price. The base room cost wasn't bad but once you add all the taxes and resort charges it ended up being quite a bit more. I stayed in three different hotels in Waikiki and if you don't care about the expense this one is great. I'm just not entirely convinced it was worth the extra cost. You also still had to rent beach chairs and umbrellas which I would have thought would have been included in a luxury resort fee. I'm definitely glad I at least visited once.

Just checked in here - $600+ /night got me a rooftop view and NO bathtub - not MY idea of luxury, but… …the GOOD is that the bed IS comfortable - REAL comfortable, the staff, other THAN the front desk, are VERY nice. The valet guys are TOP-NOTCH. Overall, the hotel is quiet, clean, and it IS on the beach AND on beautiful grounds… …AND there’s toothbrushes and toothpaste in the bathroom. The sheets and towels are NICE too! It’s got a desk, but no lamp to light the area - had to whip out the flashlight to use the desk phone. NO IN-ROOM DINING - can’t even get coffee brought up in the morning…gotta go stand in the long, “luxurious” line at their coffee stand downstairs (coffee stand at the sister property, the Sheraton, next door is WAY better.) SOMETHING is AMISS when the homeless guys living on the beach in front of the hotel have a better view than paying guests. Pretty sure I’ve had MORE luxury in a small town Courtyard Hotel - really should REMOVE the “Luxury” from their marketing.

It wasn’t amazing or terrible. The service was definitely not a 5 star rating. I think I got better service at 3 star hotels than this one. The front desk check in didn’t even bother to explain to you about any of the amenities offered and when I asked about them, just threw me a piece of paper. I didn’t know where anything was located in the hotel and just had to roam around until I found the pool, the lounge, the area where they have the cultural classes and even elevators. When we got to the room the extra housekeeping items I had asked for beforehand so I would have less contact with people (it’s CoVid) were not there and was even missing items for even our first day. They had to come twice because they forgot to bring all stuff. So much for trying to get less contact. It was convenient to be right on the beach, but that was about it. Restaurants were over priced for just blah food, but I guess you pay for the view since you’re looking at the beach. The best service I got was from the valet guys. They were super friendly and helpful. I’ll try another hotel on the beach next door the next time we come.

I had a perfect stay. I appreciated the staff so much. They were top notch and made our stay amazing. They were knowledgeable and so helpful. The hotel is super clean and gorgeous and the location is fantastic. We were close to everything and as a resort guest you could reserve great beach umbrella/seats to relax. Everything is in walking distance and the live music at night was beautiful.

I was a little worried from a few reviews complaining of it needing updated and not great service. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It’s a BEAUTIFUL historical resort, if you want modern don’t go to a historical hotel, but do not confuse historical with needing updating. The service was PERFECTION. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was so friendly, helpful and welcoming. Not to mention accommodating. We were there after Christmas before the new year and loved every minute. The beach is amazing. Don’t think twice, book here!!

Wonderful hotel with historical significance & endless charm. Very beautiful accommodations, great restaurants and shops that are a part of the resort, and exemplary staff. Only downside is visiting during peak months means you should book chairs in advance for the beach or pool for those days but you do get access to the neighbor Sheraton resort pool which is bigger for the kids anyway. Rates aren’t cheap but you do get a fantastic location (best in Waikiki), great rooms, and wonderful views of Diamond Head.

I cannot say enough positive things about the Royal Hawaiian. The location was perfect, the staff was unbelievably nice, and the rooms were very comfortable. You do have to pre-reserve and pay for an umbrella each day if you want it but that seems to be standard among all the hotels. We booked through American Express which included breakfast in the morning. This was such a great perk. The included breakfast allowed us to choose all but one breakfast entree complimentary. We felt well taken care of and pampered the whole time! We were always greeted with smiles and genuine positive energy. The rooms are a little older but it was clean and quiet. The hotel is right on the beach and steps from many many shops and restaurants. Highly recommend!!

We had the rooms with garden view. The Royal grounds are beautiful. If you want direct access to Waikiki beach, the location is perfect. The rooms are a bit dated, but given the age of the hotel that was expected. The rooms were nice and clean. The housekeeping staff were amazing. The food at the Mai Tai food was good. We really liked the pink pancakes. We enjoyed the cabana. Love the cabana seating arrangement and location. Although would be nice to have beach facing options for the cabana. Had to pay to have a microwave in the room (nominal $25 charge). Customer service was great. Overall, great stay.❤️

Upscale, clean hotel with very friendly staff. Salem, one of the valets, was particularly helpful. Although small, the pool was very pleasant. The beach access was ideal. So nice to have so many options for shopping and dining within walking distance. Plus, the bus to Pearl Harbor takes off from the hotel next door. We stayed in the historic section which was plenty roomy and updated. Just wish we’d had a balcony.

Loving our stay in Honolulu! This hotel is rich in culture, history, and hospitality. We chose to stay here for our honeymoon and are so glad we did! The hotel offers daily activities that are fun for singles, couples and families. Beachfront location is ideal. Though not a quiet beach, the hotel gives access to beach chairs for guests (for a price - worth it!). We opted for a half day at the beach, and paid half price for the umbrella and lounge chairs. The dining options are wonderful. We ate at Azure on our first night, and it did not disappoint. Each course was well-curated, and gave us an authentic experience. The hotels local is also ideal for shopping. Boutique shoes, high end designers, and numerous dining options are just a one minute walk away. Highly recommend The Royal Hawaiian to anyone visiting Honolulu!

The room we stayed in had a king size bed, it was really nice but a little small, but had an amazing view. The amenities were all really nice, I loved that they had an ice and water machine on every floor so it made filling up our water bottles that we brought from home super easy. The staff were amazing, friendly, and always helpful. Loved all the staff that we met there. My only complaints other than the room and gym being a little small, was that the pool and spa closed really early and the menu for the Mai Tai bar was kinda small. I also really liked that a lot of restaurants and shops were within walking distance. The next time we are in Hawaii, I would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay here. The hotel and grounds are gorgeous, and the access to Waikiki Beach is unbeatable. The staff are kind and helpful. We enjoyed our banana muffins and coffee from the RH bakery in the morning, and loved the pink pancakes from Surf Lanai. The Mai Tai Bar had great drinks, good music, and good energy. We loved our garden room in the historic section - it was quiet and pretty and the bed was so comfortable. The only criticism we had was the service at Azure restaurant left a little to be desired. If you decide to stay here, please know that you have to book those beach chairs ahead of time. Reserve them on the website when you book your stay, so there are no surprises.

Stayed in room 342. We felt fortunate to have quiet neighbors because the walls are very thin. Recommend bringing a sound machine for sleeping at night. I recommend the garden view rooms to avoid the street noise for sure. Jackie and Lisa were our housekeepers and went above and beyond with their service and kindness, it was such a pleasure to talk to them everyday. We found the concierge to be dismissive and unhelpful and the bell staff was very pushy about grabbing our bags when we wanted to push them ourselves, an overly friendly bell man also lingered in our room and talked for over ten minutes, we were tired from our flight and needed to use the restroom, also not comfortable having a stranger in our room with door closed. Location could not have been more perfect, close to everything we could ask for. We enjoyed the pool and spa, the man working the pool area was very kind and helpful. Renting beach chairs with umbrella is so worth it. My Mother enjoyed the morning yoga classes. It's an amazing place and I pray I will return one day. Mahalo!

Make sure to use HoteITully.ᴄᴏm when booking any resort. They compare countless hotel sites and normally will have rates a lot cheaper compared to others! Thank me later! This place is one of the most well known in the area. I have been coming here for a very long time. If you choose this place you definitely won't be disappointed.

This is our third visit back to the Royal Hawaiian over the last 30 years. Typically we stay at less expensive properties because we had traveled with our family in the past. This trip was a very special one because my husband had received a transplant— and a year ago we didn’t know whether he would even make it or not. So this trip is a combination birthday for me and celebration of husband’s recovery and second chance at life! Giving you the background for context because we reserved a deluxe ocean view room in the historic building, with walk-in shower booth. We were so disappointed when we checked into our room and found no ocean view whatsoever due to several palm trees completely obscuring the window and a traditional bathroom with shower over tub. There was a huge step between the main bedroom and the former lanai where you would look out the window. Totally not accessible and our first night there my husband could not shower due to how dangerous it would be for him. I won’t go into the details of all the conversations between us and the front desk but in the end day manager Len made it right and we ended up in her much nicer room with an ocean view and a slider to a balcony. So although the first night was a bit dismal the rest of the stay was fantastic. Caution if you have not stayed in the historic wing since 2009, their 2009 “update“ really stripped the rooms of their original 1920s charm. So sad because that was the entire reason we came back to this hotel. The ice cream parlor is gone and the rectangular pool (although it needed updating), is gone and replaced with a very small round 4 foot pool that can only accommodate 10 people. If you want a bigger better pool you need to go next-door to the Sheraton. The two properties share that larger pool. The hot tub was broken when we were there. But that’s OK it was too hot to go into the hot tub anyway. Hotel sits squarely on Waikiki beach, and walking distance to tons of shopping. Thank goodness the pink exterior is preserved and remains the pink palace on Waikiki.

For the age of this property, I was impressed. Great service made up for some obviously old elements. Bell/valet staff were friendly and helpful and fun to get to know. Unfortunately Waikiki is basically a big homeless camp now but this hotel is a little ways back from the Main Street so it seems more private. Incredible lighting on the trees in front of the hotel at night.

Attn Muslims this hotel has a bidet!!!!!! Giving the 5 stars for the high tech BIDET! This made all the difference for us as it’s always hard being away from home in the states where bidets are not common. The hotel is lovely..the Hawaiian lattes in their coffee shop are amazing…the location is superb! I read reviews before I booked and the main reason I booked was the location and history of this pink palace on the pacific—it did not disappoint!! Only thing is I would not recommend staying in the historic side—only the tower…we struggled to get our amx platinum upgrade, but thankfully they were able to pull thru. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel although it’s not as newer as some of the others, it was still wonderful. Thank you!

A perfect stay at a great hotel. Great location walking distance from major shopping area and many restaurants to choose from. Beachfront so easy access to beach. We had a small issue and the manager took care of it immediately. She went above and beyond to fix and accommodate my group of six adults. Highly recommend.

This resort provided a vacation beyond our wildest expectations! The beautiful resort, the outstanding service and the breath-taking views left us in awe of the beauty and majesty of Waikiki. The restaurant we outstanding, we loved our Mai Tai's and the luau on Thursday night was entertaining and educational. Thanks to everyone at the Royal Hawaiian for a vacation that was truly a dream come true.

It was an amazing experience to capture a wedding at The Royal Hawaiian. The hotel's beautiful surroundings provided great convenience for the couples as they could prepare, have their first look, ceremony and reception, all in one place, without worrying about traveling elsewhere. It was a dream come true for us as we could easily manage our time. The staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful, adding to the overall beauty of the place. Our team at HNL Studios enjoyed working here tremendously and looks forward to coming back!

This resort is incredible. Feels like you are a world away from the bustle of the main street. Beautiful gardens make this place feel like an oasis!! The historic building is fascinating to walk around! Right on the beach, so a swim in the ocean is steps from your room. Food available at the pool was delicious! Can’t wait to come back and stay here again.

Stayed here years ago. Love the area but hasn’t been remodeled in years. Brought a large group with us. When I asked for an upgrade they said non available. Yet all of our guest who checked in afterwards got upgraded without asking. Rooms very small, having to step over luggage to get around. No room for more than 2 small suitcases. Fitness room is very small and doesn’t offer much. Gave them 3 stars for the nice beach.

I researched a lot of hotels before choosing the RH. It was outstanding! Staff Randolf at the front desk; Joyce at breakfast, and Ben (Manager) were outstanding! Everything was excellent! We loved our stay here.

Loved the room and the stay was just incredible. Ocean view was amazing and it was nearby to a lot of areas. The hotel itself is a sight to see and I loved the pillows and mattress. There were some bugs (termites) the first couple days but we let the front desk know and they came to clean it up/investigate.

“The Pink Palace” is one of Hawaii’s oldest historic hotels, and it has a lot of history! Location is probably the best in Waikiki. It is beachfront. Just a few steps from your room, you are at the beach. They do not nickel and dime you with towel cards like most other Oahu hotels. The rooms and balconies (Lanai) are large, although my experience comes from the new wing only. The rooms are dated like most Waikiki hotels. However the gardens are lush and beautiful, the access path to the Royal Hawaiian center 👌 When I visited (Jan 2023), there were no breakfast buffets. Breakfast benefit was a plate of continental goods with discounts for other items. Enjoying the quiet beach while eating breakfast at the restaurant’s patio is some of my most cherished memories here. So serene! Although it was an enjoyable stay with lots of good memories, I don’t think I’ll be rushing back any time soon.

We didn't stay here, so I can't comment on the rooms, but I needed to write about how beautiful this hotel is... It is hidden away from the hustle of the main drag, with beautiful tropical grounds ,and a hotel lobby and ground floor that oozes Old world charm. Great coffee shop in lobby!

  • 5/5 Athena S. 5 months ago on Google
We stayed in the Concierge Tower above the 6th floor so we could see Diamond Head from our balcony. We left the balcony door open & I fell asleep out there. The buffet was well worth it, we never ate anywhere else except on the tours we took! This is the famous Pink Hotel on Waikiki Beach! And the cost was very reasonable compared to the other Hotels. We wouldn't stay anywhere else! I highly recommend The Royal Hawaiian Hotel!

The Royal Hawaiian is the place to stay if your visiting Oahu, everything about this hotel made our trip so memorable and relaxing. This resort is part of Marriott Bonvoy which makes it even more appealing. Rooms - there are two parts to this resort, the historic wing and the newer Mailani Tower. We were able to get a room in the tower which all have balconies and oceanfront views that are dreamy. Each room comes with unique mango scented bath products and a large soft bed with Frette sheets. Staff - only good things to say here. The staff tried to go above and beyond to help make our vacation enjoyable. Location - this is the best spot in Waikiki beach in my opinion. The entrance to the hotel feels like you’re in a secluded jungle yet it’s right downtown near all the shops. The entire hotel is beachfront and the waters in front of the resort were the best. Parking - I chose self parking even though they have valet, as the parking garage is super close and shared with Sheraton. There were a few hiccups with getting in and out because the card readers were acting up but the convenience was great. Amenities - all the little touches on this pink hotel were great. They do charge a resort fee which I think is the only downside as the benefits you get from it we did not use nor do I think they are helpful All in all, this has been one of my favorite resorts to stay at of all my trips to Oahu!

Just got back from our Hawaiian vacation and we are so happy we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian! It is beautiful, peaceful, and tucked in a location that is close to everything you need. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. The beach is literally right on the property. We stayed in the historic wing and we loved it! We didn’t want to leave. I would highly recommend the Royal Hawaiian!

The Royal Hawaiian feels like a really special place and experience. I love the pink and the old grandeur. Great service. Great drinks at Mai Tai Bar. Wish they had separate line for hotel guests that are paying a resort fee. We didn't go to Azure because of the limited prix fixe menu. Great location. The private pool is limited in size but lots of seating with shade. Good option for visitors without children as it's not fun for them. The shared pool with the Sheraton is great for families and children. Don't really recommend the shaded lounge chair reservations as they're a little awkward it sit in. Shops have cute clothes and gifts. Even bought a new swim suit. My biggest complaint is that the bed and pillows were wayyyy too soft for my back. I've never been so uncomfortable in a hotel bed before.

  • 5/5 Michelle R. 2 years ago on Google
The hospitality and kindness of the entire staff exemplifies the culture. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and pampered. Dinner at Azure was flawless and Jan made it special. Breakfast was also wonderful especially meeting Stanton. He gave us a lot of good helpful hints and recommendations. Dana in the Mai Tai Bar was so friendly and helped us when we were in a hurry and her shift was over. The valet noticed our luggage handle was damaged and had housekeeping fix it while we waited for an Uber. Just a fantastic place. Worth every penny.

The Royal Hawaiian luau was educational and fun to experience. The food was excellent and the staff was attentive. Stage performance was also impressive.

The staff was remarkable attentive. We stayed in the tower, which was amazing. Our trip was fantastic. Would stay here again if we were to return.

I came back after 40 years. Still excellent service and experience. If I return to Honolulu I will definitely stay again. It's a peaceful get away in a city that is way too busy.

Great location by the beach and shopping area. Building itself is pretty old, but rooms were clean and nice.

My family and I stayed here in July 2021. It is a beautiful hotel on the beach. Just stunning! It’s very convenient, and lots of restaurants/shopping are in walking distance. The hotel is very elegant, clean, and the staff is very friendly. We would love to come back!

What a great hotel to stay at! The staff are extremely friendly and respond to requests immediately. The hotel is located close to all the amenities you need. The bed was VERY comfortable and as someone with long-term back issues this was a real pleasant surprise. We stayed in the historic portion and it was very quiet and the room (king) was a great size for the 2 of us. We would definitely stay there again!

First and foremost, I love the hotel’s location. The gate, the drive, the large trees on the grounds, and the stunning cupola that make the building unique. Walking in, you’re gently welcomed by the fresh ocean winds coming in through the spacious breezeways. The walk towards the restaurant leads you to pure bliss, with the Pacific Ocean welcoming you at the end. Not to mention, the hospitality offered by the staff is Forbes worthy. Always a joyous greeting by name, a smile, and it made me feel like I belonged there. The anticipatory service met my needs and I never felt the yearn to want because they were steps ahead of my needs. I would like to especially recognize, Stanton, at the restaurant for his hospitality. He introduced me to Portuguese sausage and gave me the best pro-tip on how to enjoy this local favorite. He was extremely pleasant and provided heartfelt service throughout. I must say, my fiancée and I were in awe and will definitely return to relive paradise at the Royal Hawaiian, Waikiki!

The historic hotel is beautiful, with amazing public spaces where you can sit and soak up the history. Checking in was easy, with plenty of helpful and attentive staff, the front desk was amazing with Nigel being stand out as going out of his way to help us. We stayed in the waterfront tower, having read the reviews we booked the room we wanted, despite being titanium elite we knew half the hotel would be so upgrades just don’t happen. The room 1404 is nice enough, a little tired, although we need meet a guy who was painting the rooms. Ours had a musty or damp smell as we we first walked in as the AC was turned off. However, that cleared in a couple of hours and was good for the rest of the stay. Yes you’re paying a lot, but it’s for the location and view, you are feet away from the beach waking up to the sound of the waves is worth every cent. Room to room noise can an issue, our first neighbours were super quiet and our second set not so much, but the building is what it is, it can’t easily be fixed. The room key on a wrist band is an excellent idea, and I highly recommend it great for the beach. Elevators in our tower were a little hit and miss, one day we were down to one, while frustrating if you were trying to check out, it’s not a big deal, just wait longer. Breakfast was excellent, we had continental for free but upgraded to the other options most days. Service was friendly and very professional, you’ll need to watch the tips here. We felt it’s not really fair on the staff. Each day we needed to remember the full amount our breakfast would have been to work out a fair tip based on that total. Location couldn’t get much better, not being fancy eaters we enjoyed that PF Chang’s, Yard House, the Tap-house, and the cheesecake factory is only a short walk away. The sky bar just over the road was also worth a visit with amazing sunset views and the food there was great too. The other nice thing is the Moana surf rider, and the Sheraton are all owned by the same group so you can charge anything back to your room from any of their bars and restaurants. Pool space is limited and the staff do their best to prevent rouge towels occupying sun loungers. Still a number of people though 6am was when they could put a towel down never to return. The hotel have dealt with this and staff put a down card which gives the unattended towel an hour to leave or be reunited with its owner who should be occupying the sun lounger. After an hour the staff clear the lounger and that gives others a chance. Overall, definitely worth staying here.

I would like to personally thank Chris and Ben of the Front Desk for wiping my tears away and making this a vacation of a lifetime. The hotel is old but the rooms have been updated and look really nice. The hotel staff will do everything they can to make your stay pleasurable. The location is awesome! I would highly recommend this hotel and will return next year. If you can please try to book a oceanfront suite on a high floor. The views are amazing, there is truly something magical at the Royal Hawaiian. suite on a high floor. The oceanfront views are amazing. The breakfast dishes were delicious

We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was absolutely amazing. When we arrived the front desk agent congratulated us & upgraded our room to ocean view. The hotel is absolutely stunning. I have never stayed at a hotel so beautiful. We stayed in the historic wing of the hotel, the rooms were not huge, but they were a good size and very pretty. The staff was very friendly. The location was perfect. When we got into our room we had a little card offering us a couple glasses of free champagne at their Mai Tai bar right off the beach. A couple days later we were left pink chocolate covered strawberries in our room and a note thanking us for staying with them. I can't say enough about this hotel. This hotel was such an amazing part of our honeymoon, we will never forget it. I can't wait to visit and stay here again. Thank you to the entire Royal Hawaiian staff for helping to make our honeymoon amazing!

If you are looking to stay at a quality 5-star resort, do not stay here. When at the pool, it is tiny, and they aren't letting anyone use the hot tub. Since the pool area is so small, they have minimal chairs, and instead of accommodating guests if they are full, they make you pay $250/day to sit on their "premium" chairs which literally just have pink cushions instead. Also, if you want to sit at the beach, they charge $60 a day. I have never stayed at an expensive 5-star resort for them to charge me to sit on the beach, especially when their pool area is so small. There was so much trash lying around the pool and no staff cleaning it up. They also didn't have any servers or staff checking on guest at the pool which is extremely common at 5-star resorts. The pool area also closes at 5 pm. The staff were also not welcoming and seemed like they didn't care about the guest. Our room was also small, outdated and dark. We were booked to stay at this hotel for four nights, but after the first night, we complained and left to stay at the Ritz Carlton, where we have been treated amazingly, and the room/amenities are beautiful and up to 5-star standards. While we were complaining at the front desk, the man next to us was also complaining since the hotel was not up to 5-star standards. Save your money and go somewhere else.

One of the absolute best stays we’ve had in Hawaii. Staff is incredible across the board, some of the best service we have ever had. The amenities are what you would expect for a historical hotel, but certainly a beautiful setting. Will definitely return.

Beautiful, well located hotel with lots of history. If you're staying here, you should be prepared to spend lots of money. There aren't many things included with the resort fees. We received welcome pastries and a coupon for the bakery downstairs. They have free classes you can take if you sign up, like hula dancing and Lai making. It was fun, and I got a great souvenir. Also, they are located right on THE beach! That's about it. Everything else was another fee. I'm pretty sure that's standard for the area. Just something to consider. The main shops and restaurants are right outside the resort, so it's a lively area with tons to do, depending on the day. Weekdays things close early, so keep that in mind. The staff was incredible and very accommodating. They brought a microwave on a table to our room when we asked where we could heat up our food. Great recommendations for food and entertainment. I would definitely stay here again!

Perfect location on Waikiki Beach! Everything about this hotel is just absolutely beautiful. The gardens, architecture, and decor are all stunning. The shared amenities with the Sheraton next door were wonderful for us since we were traveling with three kids and the Sheraton has the most fun pool for kids with a big water slide. The resort stores and restaurants at the Royal Hawaiian were great as well. Each day our family started with a beachside breakfast where we were taken care of by Janice and the rest of the staff while we looked out at incredible views of the beach and Diamond Head. It was honestly a dream. I miss this hotel so much already.

The Royal Hawaiian is a historic gem in Waikiki, but that doesn't necessarily make it worth the cost. First, the good. The lobby and original building are drop dead gorgeous. Despite being right off Kalakaua, the hotel is tucked away in a quiet corner without a lot of traffic. You can really appreciate the history in a relatively serene atmosphere, at least until you step out onto the beach. The service is top notch, and it should be for the rates. And that's where the bad lies. Though it's not the most expensive place in Waikiki, it will not be cheap. Unfortunately, the room is only fine and maybe not worth the premium price. It's a nice room, but you can find the same room at a cheaper property. So ultimately, is the atmosphere, history, and prestige worth it for you? That's for you to decide.

This beautiful hotel exceeded expectations beyond belief. We knew that Waikiki would be busy and that worried us, but this hotel was a calm oasis in the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. The staff are amazing, especially Annie who serviced our room. The staff tell us that they are treated very well and are happy which is important to us. It’s definitely the best hotel in Honolulu. When we return, it will only be to this Pink Palace.
