Went here for our honeymoon- beautiful hotel but a lot of improvements could be made. These were our negatives. We spent $4k to stay here for our honeymoon yet if you want a sunbed round the pool you have to get up early due to people leaving towels on them and disappearing until later in the day If you want a sunbed on the beach these are an extra $80 A DAY!! The ones which have four posts and a curtain attached are $200!! So for us even spending $4000 to stay at the hotel it seemed we were lower class and laid on the beach with sand blowing on us. One night we went to sit in the main bar area where the piano / music is played- with our coffees that we just bought at the hotel outside bar and was told the seats were only for people spending a two drink minimum- our coffees didn’t count - again we were made to feel like the poor lower class guests. The last other thing was breakfast. We had complimentary continental breakfast and the servers were very quick to point out it only included one drink and not lattes - again $4K spent to stay there and I can’t have a bit of steamed milk in my coffee. I just think that’s very mean and poor form. Maybe the managers making these rules should concentrate on the cleanliness as the restaurant could do with a dust. Things were way overpriced in the hotel which I would expect but $12 for a (non alcoholic) frozen kona coffee from the pool bar. TWELVE DOLLARS!! All in all nice hotel way overpriced

Stayed here for 5 days and had wonderful time. Our room got upgraded to a higher floor in the tower and the room was nice, but the view was amazing. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Hotel is beautiful and has a lot of character from the Victorian era. Pool is not that nice, but the beach chairs were available for booking and we enjoyed our time just chilling on the beach. Bar staff were friendly and made great drinks and the food was also very good. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful hotel with a lot of issues. Room was city facing and we heard every noise from the street. As II was typing this a car was reviving the engine down the Avenue. You hear everything. The concierges aren’t too helpful. They don’t ask if you need help as you stand by their table looking at the different services offered. You have to actually get their attention for assistance. The rooms smell old and musty. Beach access is great , but that’s it. Overpriced. I’ve stayed in Waikiki many times and this place disappoints. Also you’re charged a $45 resort fee for each day and you still have to pay for chairs and umbrellas if you want to use them on the beach VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS MARRIOTT PROPERTY!

This place is the worst and most poorly staffed hotel you can potentially stay at. You can expect to wait 45 minutes at least for valet to get your car. My six-year-old and I missed our events costing us upwards of $400 because we could not leave in time do to waiting for the valet. The manager then attempted to argue with neon if I made the call to ballet 45 or 40 minutes prior. There was no accommodation and their attempt to fix this. Our vacation was ruined because we could not rebook our adventures because they need to be booked so far out in advance. I am appalled at how service is performed here. Please stay at any other hotel. Especially if you don't mind paying the $50 of the daily valet fee, however you do want valet to actually work when you pay for it. This isn't the first time we have had to change our plans this week due to hotel issues. We did not receive any of the promised packaging along with our membership status when checking in, even though we're paying the resort fees to accommodate for it. We also had issues checking in, using our points and, especially being Platinum elite members. Marriott has become the hotel to avoid. SCAM RESORT. Bad Management. Calling the main customer service line be prepared to wait a half an hour before speaking to a human.

Such beauty and elegance at this hotel. We stayed there while on our honeymoon ❤️ I love the architecture of this hotel, it was very romantic. It even has a beautiful art gallery and a lovely gift shop. We had easy access to Waikiki Beach. We really enjoyed our stay in Honolulu! You must experience it at least once!😊

This place IS nice, but it was way overpriced for the dates we stayed. Over $1000 a night after fees for an oceanfront room. What is with the old fashioned showers in a room this expensive? Honestly, I'm not even sure I got the room I paid for since it was more of a side view of the ocean. Also, why is there no hot tub at a hotel this expensive? The beds were very comfy and the hotel and grounds were beautiful, I just feel there was more to be desired for the price point.

Marriott Elites be Warned! Pros: Beautiful historic building. Centrally located. Waitstaff and housekeeping have wonderful attitudes. Cons: Pretty much everything else. Outdated rooms (and we were even in the newer tower). Pray that the valet isn’t full, because parking will then be a nightmare. No lounge. But above all, the hotel absolutely refuses to upgrade Elites to the “Best Available Room” as defined in the terms of the Bonvoy program. They play games, relabeling their nicer rooms as “Specialty Suites” and only offering them for paid upgrades. If you read reviews, you will see this isn’t an isolated case but a frequent source of frustration for Marriott’s best customers. Shameful! If you are paying cash, probably doesn’t matter. But if you are spending Suite Night certificates or banking on a complimentary upgrade, look elsewhere. Marriott corporate acknowledged the problem with goodwill points to my account, but are powerless to force the property to play fair.

Beautiful hotel. We did not get the king size bed we had asked for. The girl checking us in said we were going to be in the best room according her because of its gorgeous views . She was right. Great views. She failed to mention that we were 3 floors above the garden where they host/perform affairs like weddings etc. the music literally vibrated our windows til 10 pm every night we stayed except one….(4 of 5). Also, the room they put us in that supposedly was so terrific , was so tiny you could barely get around in it. Wait staff at the Veranda were wonderful . Also the resort fee you have to pay per day is not worth it. No chairs or umbrellas available. We did find a company on beach by outrigger that we used everyday cheaper anyway.

Wake up, check the surf from your balcony, enjoy breakfast under the banyan tree right on Waikiki beach. Grab a board out front and have a surf. Yes it's old. Rooms are small. The area is crowded. It was built with the nicer rooms facing the mountain side because customers originally arrived by boat and wanted the island view instead of staring at the ocean after months on a ship. If you want a regular hotel room go stay at the Hampton Inn. If you want modern luxury, the four seasons resorts in Hawaii are wonderful. If you appreciate the history and location of this place it's hard to beat.

The hotel was beautiful and our room was amazing. We had unbelievable views. Definitely the best of the three islands we visited on this trip. Service was very good, and they were attentive. Location couldn't be beat. One side the water, and the other side fabulous shopping. We ate breakfast at the Veranda restaurant and it was really, really good. I didn't realize our reservation included breakfast vouchers. But even if it hadn't I would definitely recommend Verandas for breakfast. The first night we ate at the Beach Bar. Nice views, but food and drinks were disappointing. We each got 2 drinks, and neither of us drank them. Then we split a burger and fries and the bill was over $100. Server never checked on us or asked about the still full drinks. And we were disappointed to find that room service was temporarily closed. We had the perfect balconies to have meals on. But overall would definitely recommend the hotel and the Veranda Restaurant.

First visiting Hawaii for vacation, decided to stay at this hotel because of the location. Sits on the beach, excellent view of the ocean/beach if you choose a room facing this way. I was in a one bedroom Tower suite (ocean view), microwave and mini fridge included inside of the room. Rooms are a little pricey for the size but Hawaii is more expensive than others states. Restaurants are lacking, not opened all day and some of the amenities were temporarily close (i e room service). Very good housekeeping, just make sure you put the card out saying that you want the linens changed. Hotel is within walking distance of other hotels, restaurants, and shopping. Great air conditioning as Hawaii does get hot. Overall satisfied with my stay, would recommend.

What a beautiful hotel! Staff was very friendly, accommodating. Rooms way more than we expected and the ocean view fantastic! What a beautiful old hotel that's been updated but still has it's understated original charm and luxurious feel. I can only imagine what the "First Lady" looked like in it's early hey day. Hope to return and spend more time.

Loved staying here! So much history in this building and wonderful staff that will always make you feel welcomed! Only issue is trying to find a spot on the beach but that's a part of the package when visiting a touristy part. The morning tea time was a great experience and have so many festivities to do doing your stay like yoga, ukulele lessons, and much more.

Beautiful historic hotel in a great location. Right on the beach, near the Duke statue, across the street from shops and restaurants. Wonderfully convenient, we walked everywhere. Amazing views from the balcony. Breakfast in the morning on the veranda, music at night in the beautiful courtyard under the Banyan tree. The surf lessons were great. Not as many amenities for kids (just a basic pool) but perfect for adults. Would stay here again!

Rooms are clean but tight. Located directly on beach so always loud regardless of late night/early morning hours. Very busy place so you seek out a hike or your room for seclusion. The beach bar does not have happy hour and wine by the glass is $18 beer $10. To rent a chase lounge it's 45 for half the day and you must reserve in advance but location is great!

Everything is amazing. This hotel has it all from great room to great service. The whole staff makes you feel like Ohana (family). Great spa, great food, great service and great pool just like the most amazing beach. This hotel is located in a great street full of stores and shops. Just walk a few blocks and you have everything. I totally recommend this incredible hotel.

Oldest hotel in Hawaii and still an outstanding experience. The centerpiece of the courtyard is a massive banyan tree that is beautiful and lit with different colors. They have seating on the beach by the pool and around the tree as well as an outdoor restaurant. Food is excellent. Service is very good but obviously 19. Location on Waikiki Beach is perfect. Walk with everything in the area. My wife loved the view of the water and the sunsets. When you walk up the stairs to the main entrance you can see straight through to the water as all the entries are wide open. Valet parking can take up to 25 minutes to get your car so they warn you to request it early but once again the service is excellent. Self parking is across the street at the Sheraton.

Great location. Love the foyer floor plan openness and beauty. Disappointed in the customer service. Had a large breakfast that required me to have a carry out box to place in fridge. This hotel refused to allow use of a kitchen microwave to warm the meal up. Charges $25 to bring a microwave to your room. After being a lifelong Marriott user, I find this sorely disappointing. Many hotels bring microwaves free of charge upon request. Fine. AC worked well. Great having a ceiling fan, but it was very loud (ticking sound). Fitness room in general is very good. Spacious, variety of equipment but not cleaned on a regular basis. Observed dust build up. Directions to the fitness center can to better visually displayed.

Remember to use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a place. This web site will compare hundreds of booking websites and typically will have rates much cheaper than others! Thank me later on! This resort is one of my favorites in this area. I have been staying here for a very long time. If you stay for a few days you for sure won't be disappointed. Great location, excellent service, and awesome beach. Bathroom was a little dated, but the bed is comfortable, water is hot, and water pressure was good. Our ocean view room had a beautiful view of Waikiki beach from the balcony. Good on site dining options, especially the breakfast. You're better off going across the street into the International Marketplace for multiple restaurant options for dinner.

This is how customer service should look. We had booked a Diamond Head Ocean View room for 5 nights. Unbeknownst to us that during two of those nights there were weddings that went until 10 pm. We have young children that need to go to bed early and the music kept us up. When we brought it to the attention of the managers they were graceful enough to compensate us accordingly. Cannot say enough good things about them going the distance in that regard. Hotel was otherwise clean, great big rooms, nice balcony, great staff, would stay again.

This was a beautiful historical hotel with well updated rooms in a great location on bustling Waikiki beach. If you stay here on a weekend, be warned the street noise can be loud. But the rooms are well sound proofed overall. The breakfast was pricey but well worth it, especially because if the setting on the outdoor lanai and great service. The on-beach location with views of Diamondhead are wonderful. The lobby is gorgeous and service was prompt and consistent. Will be staying here again when we return to Honolulu.

We stayed in an ocean view room which was unique in that it had shutters on the window which you could open to get a great view of the ocean and the beach bar below. Also we had an up close view of the very old banyan tree which housed white nesting terns and green parakeets. I would like to give a special shout-out to Bailey, our waiter for several nights in the beach bar restaurant. He was very efficient and friendly.

This resort had such a classy, upscale feel, I absolutely loved it. Its a smaller resort than those surrounding it, but the quality was higher. The 2 restaurants had great food! I stayed in the historic section, on the end of a hallway, with a great view of the beach, and the room was small but nicely arranged. The huge tree in the beach courtyard is beautiful.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Surfrider. The hotel is beautiful and sits right on Waikiki beach. Easy access to local shops and amenities but on the beach. Our room overlooked the ocean with made morning coffee and evening cocktails a delight. We ate in the restaurant most mornings. the buffet is well appointed and the food was very good. Service in the hotel was generally outstanding. Staff was courteous and helpful, never seeming rushed. We parked our car with the hotel which was expensive, but valet service was top-notched and efficient. This was a great stay and we would stay here again.

BEAUTIFUL hotel lobby and location... blends traditional charm with tropical locale. Rooms are older but ours on the 12th floor was very roomy with a fabulous view of the central courtyard, ocean, park and banyan trees. Wish we could have spent more time here! We will be back!

I love this place! I'm a local and my husband and I snuck away from the kids for a night at this hotel. It is beautiful, the staff were awesome, the rooms are on the small side in the banyan wing but really nice with a chaise lounge with tons of pillows in front of the window with a view. Perfect for reading/relaxing. They thought of little details pretty well IMO. The pool area is nice, the food was mediocre by the pool, and the location can't be beat.

The minute you step into this hotel it smells amazing! The staff at reception, the bars & breakfast were superb! Very courteous! The spacious room was clean with an amazing bed. Westin has some of the comfiest beds you will ever lay on and great smelling bath products. Also had a heated toilet seat. Sea turtles. You will see them swimming around you near the beach. The breakfast options at the main restaurant were excellent. As a Marriott Bonvoy member I recommend getting the buffet and ordering the mango pancakes, they’re really good. The pool was pretty small so didn’t bother, great if you have kids. The beach is right outside the hotel, the chairs are always booked very early but as a hotel guest you get free chairs and towels to rent daily. The bar area is spacious, service is really good along with the chicken wings! Great selection of cocktails too! In the evenings they have live music. Great views of the beach from the hotel and location is very central to everything with an ABC store right across the street. I would definitely recommend staying here and I will be back.. soon!

I cannot express how fantastic this experience was. I only had a day to really relax - everyone helped in achieving that. Kawena at the front desk, especially, went above and beyond ensuring I can do nothing other than return to The First Lady of the Island. The room's view, overlooking the beach, pool, and Diamond Head will not be forgotten. The food was solid all round. Just walking the grounds, through the historic parts of the hotel was a simple joy as well. Even the live music, while not what I'd typically go for, felt right. Loved everything about the place.

Beautiful hotel for a first time visit to Hawaii. You're right in the centre of Waikiki which is fantastic. The city facing rooms do suffer a little from the very noisy main street, but noise generally seemed to die down around 10/11pm so not a huge issue. But otherwise very comfortable and would go again!

  • 3/5 Gabriel B. 1 year ago on Google
You cannot beat the location of this hotel and the historical importance of the building which has a beautifully restored lobby. Sadly they guest rooms are just dated and sad. The bathrooms and showers are from the 80s, I’ve stayed at holiday inns with better showers. The hotel just does not have enough lounge or for that matter sitting space for their guests. So, even though, you are charged a daily resort fee, unless you are up at 7 am snatching a pool chair or pay up 85 dollars for reserved only beach ones, you will have to grab your towel and fight for a spot on the beach. Skip this hotel, just come for the day to Waikiki and you will have the same experience without the expense.

The 1st hotel on Oahu full of history and so beautiful. Staff are friendly and professional. We didn't upgrade our room so it was small but we didn't plan on living in it so it didn't bother us. Free beach towels and 1 complimentary Dole Whip from the snack bar. Spectacular view of the beach and ocean while sitting on the veranda or sitting in a rocking chair shaded under the breathtaking banyan tree in the courtyard. Highly recommend staying here if you can afford it.

Such a memorable stay for us. Keith at front desk provided us a great room during check-in and helped us along with our stay. Hotel is literally on the Waikiki beach, and is in the center of all entertainment and shopping. Rooms may be a bit old, but this is what we want to be part of historic building. Service are always great. I definitely plan to come back again this year.

Beautiful hotel and a beautiful location. Can be a little loud at night being on the main strip (this place never sleeps), but it’s part of the energy and atmosphere. The staff was amazing - upgraded our room to a beautiful suite for our honeymoon!

I had my "final" meal on the island from the restaurant, beachside. It was such a special night, and hearing the waves crash with the live music and lovely lighting was just the cherry on top! I wasn't super impressed with the drinks but the food was superb, I would recommend at least a visit here, once on the island.

The Moana Surfrider is simply a great great resort. From the minute you arrive to the second you depart the staff always go above and beyond, from the people at the valet to the people at the reception desk all of the employees were extremely helpful. The grounds of the resort, alongside the rooms and views make it an extremely attractive resort. Not to mention the location is central to everything making the stay that much easier by having everything within a few footsteps.

Overall a great resort with the closest proximity to the beach. Tower rooms are updated and service is great. Be aware that in room dining/ room service is closed due to Covid measures. Rooms at the historic hotel are closer to the pool and banyan tree where live music is played till 10pm. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly.

The hotel is a historic building in Honolulu. It was the first hotel in Waikiki to open in 1901. This venerable hotel has a great location right on the beach with plenty of good restaurants and beach bars. In the area you can great shopping or strolling. We had a room in November 2006 with a partial lake view. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Wonderful atmosphere! Gorgeous courtyard. Amazing food. Excellent service. Bed linens extremely soft. Only down side was their DAILY resort fee of $42 that many customers did not know about! This fee is in addition to room fee and taxes.

This resort is one of the best in this area. I have been staying here for a long time. If you stay for a few days you definitely won't be disappointed. Very nice hotel, right on the beach! wonderful location and exceptional service from the staff. Room definitely is small for the price point. Few things in the bathroom needed attention from the maintenance which very slightly dampened our stay there. The view outside our window overlooking the beach was so beautiful and the easy access to the beach was definite cherry on top.

The lobby and rooms were so comfortable. We stayed 2 weeks and had booked 2 rooms side by side. Easy access to everything , we booked activities that were all on time. The flowers and grounds were taken such great care of. Some nights we enjoyed live music under the banyan tree. The beach was clean everyday . We will stay there again on our next trip.

A wonderful experience in Hawaii. The amenities, beach bar, access to the beach, fitness center, and location are perfect. The overall feel of the place is like a hotel you see in movies. It is pricey for the average person but well worth it in my opinion because come on, you are on vacation.
