Nice charming rooms to stay in. When you hear the word hostel you tend to lower you expectations. However, the rooms here are very clean and the premises (laundromat area/common areas/hangouts/smoking areas) are very well maintained. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The surrounding areas are peaceful and other tenants keep to themselves so it makes for a really nice stay.

WORST experience ever. Iโ€™m happy I didnโ€™t pay out of pocket for my stay at a roach infested, long term invested resident, intrusive STAFF, uncomfortable, uncooperative operation. IF YOU HAVE TO SPEND 400 bucks a week on a place GO WITH AIR BNB NOT THIS TERRIBLE EXCUSE FOR A BUSINESS. CHECKING OUT TOMORROW THANK GOD

At first glance this establishment seemed quite nice! Iโ€™m in remition for stage 4 Burkittslymphoma and needed much relaxation as my body recovers. However after two days or so odd things begin happening! My belongings stared coming up missing and I actually was awaken three times to different men coming through! The management then informed me that they had rented out a room so being as Iโ€™m alone in the building you would think that they might mention this to me. No one ever stayed but three different men wondered in and out of the building. Odd behavior! Thatโ€™s when I realized that all three men already lived on the premises next door! So why would they need to rent a room only for no one to stay in it! Thatโ€™s just creepy! So? Were they just spying on a line woman or what was the deal? Either way itโ€™s creepy and unsettling! Stay away single ladies!!!

Everyone who works there are super friendly and easy going. It's a 15 minute walk to the mall and 20 to the beach. Safeway is 5 minutes away. Buses are close and easy to get around. I don't know what people expect with the prices they are paying for the rooms. It is inexpensive considering the cost of living in Hawaii, so quit your whining and be a little more realistic. The neighbors don't bother you, but are friendly if you say "hi" to them. The rooms and common area are clean and that is what is important. They do get warm during the day, but you do get a fan and plus YOU'RE IN HAWAII! You're suppose to be outdoors during the day.

My stay at the Plumeria was my first experience at a "hostel-like" establishment, and it did not disappoint! As mentioned in other reviews, the hostel atmosphere with the added bonus of a lockable private room was ideal for my solo trip on O'ahu. The room was clean, and all appliances were as described: the bathroom was clean, and a fridge, an oven, and a microwave were available (although I only used the fridge). It's all in all a pretty quiet environnment: I wasn't bothered at all by my roommates, although, as mentionned in other reviews, the proximity to the streeet can add a few decibels to your stay (as I'm a pretty heavy sleeper I didn't mind, but for those who have a bit more difficulty falling asleep, earplugs are available and the AC helps to drown out the street noise). Most importantly, Richard has been very helpful throughout my stay, making sure I understood the check-in instructions (which were clear) and was all in all being very friendly. The BBQ on saturday is a nice touch, and it helped me get familliar with my flatmates! The hostel is closte to Ala Moana (the beach and the shopping center: about a 20 minute walk), to many restaurants and pharmacy, as well as being veery accessible by public transport.

Good location, nice people, clean place.. I stayed here 4 weeks and really enjoyed it. The staff are courteous and professional. They listened carefully when I had concerns or questions. I felt safe at the Plumeria. There are combination locks on the gates. I rented a TV set for a fair price. I received a nice discount for staying 4 weeks. The room was cozy. The kitchen and bathroom are regularly cleaned. Other than some ants I never encountered any other bugs. The office has fewer opening hours, but it was never inconvenient. A 24 on call phone number is available for emergencies. There is a movie night and a barbecue dinner party where there was good opportunity to meet other guests and staff. The food is great! The people that smoke are encouraged to be respectful. There is space for some vehicles and a bicycle rack. There is some sound from the street traffic, but mostly the people stay quiet overnight. There are washers and dryers available in the days for some coins. The Plumeria is close to major bus lines, supermarkets, museums, parks, restaurants, shopping centers and beaches. I followed their suggestion to use the Reliable Shuttle for transportation from the airport and back again. It was also an easy and affordable experience. I recommend you stay here if you're spending time in Honolulu and are on a budget. You share a kitchen and bathroom with a few others, but have your very own private locked bedroom. The staff was easy to communicate with ahead of time by email.

Really enjoyed my stay at The Plumeria ("Hostel Alternative")! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had a great time at the free BBQ that they threw on Saturday night. My room (along with the common area and bathroom) were very clean. No bugs or anything! This place has a pretty great location too! 1 block from the grocery store and a bus stop that takes you to Waikiki. In addition to all that, the price was right. You aren't gonna beat $25 a night here on Honolulu. I had booked for 4 nights and ended up staying an additional 3. Will stay here again when I return!

I can NOT day enough good things about this place!! I know most ppl hear "hostile" and think, the worst. You couldn't be more wrong! The owner Richard, is the nicest person! We kinda got ourselves into a jam on our first trip, my husband booked a condo for the second part of our trip. So we could be close to the beach and Waikiki. We stayed at the Plumeria for the first half of the trip. Well my hubby thought we were leaving a day before we actually were... so our check out date from the condo was a day early. The owner didn't hesitate to let us come back and stay for the last night of our trip!! As usually it's a 3 day minimum stay. So when we came back on our second trip, we knew right where we wanted to stay!! We called Richard and he remembered us and everything. So everything was all set when we got here. And the staff here is just as friendly!! We actually made a couple friends here, that we stay in touch with! They are a little community, and the ALOHA spirit is very much a real thing here!! Would recommend to anyone, any time!!!

Nice guys in management, easy-going, with respect and aloha. The location is perfectly situated right in the middle of everything you will ever need or want. They are not worried about any comments from a few years ago since they made it into a community by their upgrades of the security, with a tall fence, automatic vehicle gates, three sets of locking doors, high-tech cameras and in fact have generally raised everything to a hotel standard. I'd prefer to stay here than anywhere else, and have for years, while it's worked very well for me. When you consider everything, quite the top value accommodation.

Rooms were smaller than advertised. Bathroom shower was out of commission for two days of my 5 day stay. AC unit worked great, shared space outside was kept clean and tidy. A little noisy due to being located on a busy street, but not unbearable. Close to a Safeway and city transit

Super accommodating staff! I was supposed to arrive in early afternoon, but my flight was canceled and then my new flight was delayed. I didn't get in until late at night, but they were there to meet me at the gate and get me all set up after a super long day of traveling. The room was far more than I was expecting for the price as well. Sure, it's no luxury resort, but the value for your money is unbeatable!

Like anywhere else, there are some issues. However, the location is ideal, it is easy to make acquaintances, & I am personally grateful for the opportunity to have had my first home in Honolulu at The Plumeria.

Super Lit! Bunch of good lil' restaurants nearby, and some bars. Easy to get around the rest of the city. Catching an Uber to Kailua Beach ain't too pricy, def worth it. Single rooms are safe and well-ventilated. The staff are nice and always helpful.

I lived here for three years, Feb 2020 to April 2023, and was in four different units and shared units with quite a few other guests. By and large it was a positive experience. The few problems usually involved other guests. The management typically resolved any issues promptly. I heard that they are closing, which i wish weren't true.
