One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at! It has a really chill and friendly atmosphere which is great for relaxing or meeting new people. It’s a great location - close to a lot of great restaurants, bars, the beach and shopping. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. I also love that it has a 24/7 open kitchen, spare toilet and shower near the common area, a lot of beach equipment to borrow and the rooms are really clean.

Stayed in a private room with a shared bath. The room is located within a bigger room where the bunks are located instead of separate entrances. The common facilities are clean and spacious. I appreciate the enforcement of quiet hours. Surf boards are available to borrow. Wifi works downstairs but not so well (in and out) in the upstairs rooms. Office hours are not open from 12-4 and schedule might need to be adjusted to that accordingly for check in. Improvement suggestions: hooks in that bathroom and rooms. Curtain on the windows or around the beds.

Excellent location close to shopping area and the beach. The staffs are very nice but the room need to be improved is not clean at all you could smell the toilet in your room, bed and floor were so dusty, the locker is big to keep all your belongings but no lock make sure you carry you own to keep your things safe. There is no AC but room rate is cheap compared to some other hostel. The common area is very good. Coffee/tea and 2 toast/person for breakfast and the rest such as eggs or muffin you need to pay.

Seaside is one of the few affordable/cheap places in Oahu and is located in the center of Waikiki! That’s it! Nothing else positive about this place. I‘ve been to many places around the globe, but haven’t seen such a rundown place and that’s a pity as the hostel actually has potential. Don‘t know when the place was maintained the last time. Must have been years ago. We literally had no real door to our room. The door was around 30 cm above the floor, so open doors to sound, things, dust and insects from outside. Front desk staff was nice. Seems like many people are involved, however you don’t know who is in charge. There is no real organization besides check-in/Check-out, breakfast and surfing lessons organized. Many people(potentially staff) are using the showers and facilities inside the room, who are actually not sleeping in your room. I organized an anti-bacterial spray myself to feel comfortable in my bed as my legs were itchy like hell after one night. Seems like the owner is just trying to make money, not investing much, as budget travellers have no choice anyway.

Overall, It's great place to stay when you want everything to be accessible and convenient. The walk to Waikiki beach is 20 mins, the international marketplace (restaurants and shopping), souvenir shops on every block (i.e. the ABC store), bus stations etc. Pros: - Most affordable (I was able to go on snorkeling/surfing, hiking trips, and fancy restaurants) - The staff are super friendly, including their lovable animal companion-a friendly German Shepperd - The beds are comfortable, bathroom and room are clean and tidy. I really appreciate the staff checking the room 2-3 times a day to stock up toilet paper, and taking out garbage - You will enjoy the stay if you have courteous and respectful guests who will stay in same room as you. I.E. I shared a room with 8 girls and there's one bathroom. We all limit shower time to 10 mins, or if someone goes to bed early, others walk in quietly or whisper, turn the lights off. - I personally haven't came across a cockroach in the room:) - Kitchen, phone charging stations at the patio hangout area, lounge area to chill. - I love coming across the cute little geckos^-^ They would chill by the trees. Don't be frighten if you see one run across. They are harmless<3 Slight Cons: - Fat german roaches! It's very common in any tropical climate. I came across a few that zoomed past me by the patio. Spotted few dead ones by the driveway - Can be a little loud especially when you're heading to bed and call it a night. Folks will chill at the patio mingle with the group and there's singing, drinking, and people having a good time. Also there is a restaurant next door. Just bring ear plugs - Depends on the type of guests you share the room with! For first 2 days, I had a messy guest who left her clothes all over the floor and not very organized. - If you're a curvy person, err avoid the top bunk bedXD unsteady ladder (feels like metal, and it's struggle to get up and come back down). At the same time, it gives you the isolation space so you will fall asleep easily:)

Great little hostel. Super friendly staff, well-equipped kitchen, laid-back vibes. Not a loud, party hostel but you can easily socialize with international travelers on the patio until 11pm quiet hours kick in. Free surfboards, boogie boards, beach gear… And even a couple puppies on site :-) would absolutely recommend. Shoutout to Jaimie for going above and beyond!

My first Hostel Stay! I started out in November on a spiritual journey and I spent two weeks at Seaside. Rhonda, Hind and Leandra were so kind to me. They were welcoming, encouraging and supportive to say the least. Them and Bodie truly made the experience worth while. The community atmosphere and the down to earth solo travelers added an element to the extended stay that I don’t think a hotel could have. YES, it’s a shared room experience, YES you have to share the bathroom, YES, if you want luxury and modern you should head to a hotel. This is for those desiring connection and community as stories are shared about travels and life. If you’re looking for that experience then stay at SEASIDE!

I have stayed at Seaside Hawaiian Hostel twice and both times it was amazing. The staff is usually super friendly. Two employees really stood out to me. The first time I stayed was in August 2022 and Hind was super friendly and kind. The second time was in July 2023 and Rachel was so outgoing and the sweetest, bubbliest employee there by far. She seemed very passionate about making the hostel experience a good one for the guests. She even organized a surfing sunrise photo shoot which was super cool. The hostel is located in the heart of Waikiki with plenty of stores, restaurants, and beaches within walking distance. The rooms are very spacious and clean. I have never had a bad nights sleep. However, it can get a bit noisy late at night and early in the morning, but that's to be expected in any big city. I couldn't recommend this place enough!

My stay at the Seaside Hostel was incredible. The rooms were comfortable and the common area was lively. Caitlin was a huge help in allowing us to check in late and providing over all tips for our stay in Honolulu ! Highly recommend

I was looking forward to staying here until I found out there is no parking accommodated for guests. You have to find parking on the street which there is none. They also don't have a phone number to contact them directly and ask questions. They took forever to respond to me by email. I couldn't even find a parking spot to check in. They should State this on their website, it is false advertising not to say that you need to find a parking spot. I got charged one night and I didn't even stay there thanks to hostile world stupid cancellation policy.

Very noisy!! Housekeepers clean 2 times a week only. Volunteers do laundry and pick up trash daily. It's a very old building. Pillows are disgusting. and matresses too. Very old! Location is good tho. The rooms are very small. Some Windows don't even have glass!! I would not recommend this place. But YOU GOT WHAT YOU PAY RIGHT?

I love it here! It's important to pay attention to the office hours. A lot of people would come in when the office was closed and would have to wait around outside the gate. It's really close to a lot of great shopping. The staff is super helpful and usually know great places to go for groceries or eateries. There's also a super friendly dog that comes to visit from time to time. Owner's dog!

I spent 5 nights and it was a wonderful and unusual experience . I checked in late and she waited for me patiently. The top bed was not a good move though as I am big and climbing up the ladder was a mission . It was also very noisy climbing down .

This hostel MADE my trip to Hawaii. Clean, great location, and amazing people. Hind was specifically so incredibly sweet and gave great recommendations on beaches and hikes. I didn’t want my stay to end (they almost convinced me to miss my flight 😉). I’ll definitely be staying here again hopefully in the near future!

I booked three months ago. I re-verify 5 days before arriving, being told everything is perfect come on down. I get here and they say sorry we gave you a better way to someone else there's nothing we can do about it. I travel from Armenia to Hawaii, 21 hour flight only to be put on the street. They raise the price and gave it to someone else. I think it's because I booked through hostelworld so instead of paying the percentage a rather keep the money I can't imagine any other reason. Very mean to do such things not to mention unethical

Had a fantastic stay at the seaside hostel, very close to Waikiki beach in a lively area. Common room and facilities were clean and Caitlin was wonderful in making us feel welcome and helping us out checking in! Would definitely go back

It was my first time visiting Hawaii with my sister and to save some money for other excursions, we stayed here. I will say that this place is ideal if you intend to book a place with affordable pricing especially in Honolulu. This hostel is more for convenience as oppose to luxury and comfort. Good place to stay if you're travelling with a group. It's pretty safe to browse around the area after sunset. Pros location- everything is accessible as you are in the heart of the city. restaurants, shops, souvenirs, bus stops etc. ABC store at every corner, the Waikiki beach is about 15 min walk. Staff visits the rooms, 2-3 times a day to take out trash, and stock up on toilet paper. washrooms are clean, surf board rentals. Good place to stay if you enjoy the company of others or looking for an affordable place to stay. No curfew. animal companion sometime on site- a large German shepherd, very friendly dog :) Cons No air conditioning, it can be really hot in the rooms. We travelled during August but thankfully with two fans we had in our rooms, we cooled down after sometime. I am also a very tidy person and am considerate around others who need a shut-eye for the night. Depending on your roommates, it can be deal breaker. One of our roommates was messy and left her clothes hanging everywhere but for most part, we had considerate roommates who came in quietly during the night and we all limited our shower time. the beds are comfortable for most part but found the top bunk very squeaky and hard to get down if you're a bigger person. Roaches- you can expect to see roaches in Hawaii which is not a surprise. Although our rooms were clean for most part, I saw a roach once on my way to the bathroom. you may see a roach or two outside by the patio but then again, you are visiting a very warm climate. downstairs, there is an open-concept kitchen so bugs are bound to come in regardless. noise level- since you are in the heart of the city, you may hear people in the middle of the night. there is also a bar next door. No washing machine/dryer no breakfast offered, except for coffee/tea wifi- I had trouble with the wi-fi connection during the evening. I would not say its super.

Nice clean 4 beds (two bunk beds) rooms are small, each bed has its own socket and light. Nice clean bathrooms and kitchen area. However, the location is far from the nicer beaches and tours. Young Hispanic lady will blast her weird funky drunk music - so annoying!👂 And don’t have your laundry done here for it come out all wrinkled and stuffed into your bag unfolded 🤷🏻‍♂️

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at! They have surf boards, umbrellas, beach chairs you can use for free. Staff were incredibly kind and helpful and it is in a central location with good facilities. Would stay here again! At time I visited office was open for check in 10am-1pm and 4pm-11pm. We had a few questions prior to arriving and all were answered quickly and throughly via email :)

I've come here several times and each time it gets a little bit better. You can tell that the owners are very conscientious of the people staying here and doing their best to upgrade and update the grounds. They updated the windows and some other things making it really comfortable and modern. There are always really nice people staying here from all over the world and the staff is super friendly and helpful in every way.

Pretty nice hostel. Great prices for a great location. The rooms themselves were ok, you have to manage your expectations with hostels. They are usually a bit shabby but clean. People working here were pretty nice. My only complaint is that there no outlets by the beds and the lockers seemed a bit small. Other than that it was a comfortable stay with nice roommates. There's also a really good restaurant and cafe right outside the hostel.

Great overall experience! It was really easy to meet people. The staff was fantastic and super helpful. Praewa (one of the staff members) was awesome and planned out fun activities throughout the week. Special shoutout to the rest of the staff as well - Caitlin, Rachel, Zoe, and Tori!

Disappointing. Only a a few rooms look like the pictures, the rest are old and run down. The kitchen looked like it hadn't been cleaned well in a while. The front desk staff are not there during office hours, which would be fine if they had a number to call. The cleaning lady had to contact the offer person twice before she came 45 min after we arrived. It's also noisy in the evenings from the drunk guests and off-duty staff If you a want a cheap place to stay for a couple days, this is okay. If you are staying longer I wouldn't recommend it. The Airbnb we went to afterward was nicer and cheaper.

I enjoyed my stay. It was a nice way to meet new people and the location was super accessible to the beach (and Enterprise rentals where I ended up renting twice...although the airport is better). Jack also offered group surfing lessons which was super affordable, fun and you got to use the boards the rest of the day, so that was awesome! Only complaint is the place needs an update. I dont think it was dirty, but bedsheets and mattress were VERY worn and my bed had a huge dip in it.

Staff were super nice! Breakfast in the morning. Rooms are very clean and bed is comfy. Also you have a locker so you can keep your stuff safe.

Pretty good for a hostel. Has what you would expect a hostel to have. Location is great but loud (not their fault of course), staff are super friendly and welcoming, and the whole place has a good atmosphere. I would stay again!

  • 5/5 Peter L. 4 years ago on Google
Spent four days here, which I greatly enjoyed, in most part because of the new friends I met while staying at this hostel. The rooms are unremarkable, but for the price are more than adequate. The wifi signal was strong, the staff were incredibly pleasant and helpful, and the morning waffles they occasionally serve were delicious. I would stay here again.

Overall, a mixed experience. To start with the pros, this hostel is great at facilitating a social setting. I came with a group and it was easy to meet new people due to the communal area. There is a shared kitchen, fridge, and general outdoors social area. The location is also good, as we were within range of bars, restaurants, stores, beaches, etc. The staff is also friendly. Our main cons were with the service. The power went out for a couple of days during our stay. In addition to that, this made it so that we couldn't use the laundry (which was advertised as a hostel amenity) which was an issue because we had packed accordingly. After the power returned, we were still not able to use the laundry (since the hostel itself was backed up on its laundry) and we received no sort of refund or anything. I had also arrived late due to a flight delay, and the hostel did not allow me to stay with the group I was originally supposed to stay with, despite it being an easy switch. Overall, we would've liked to see more flexibility during our stay. It is a good location and hostel, but understand that if you or your group encounter some issues, they may not be accommodated and that could cause a great deal of inconvenience.

Stayed here for my trip to Waikiki. Nice hostel, nice location, nice space and last but not least: nice people!!! The hosts are full of positive energy! Close to everything important in Waikiki: the beach, the restaurants, the shops,… I totally recommend this place! Thank you!

The Seaside Hawaiian Hostel was amazing! The hospitality provided by guest and staff was wonderful. One of the staff members Hella was beyond helpful, she printed me off a list of restaurants and favorite places shes gone and everyplace on the the list was unforgettable. She also helped with any questions I had with a smile and the utmost kindness! I definitely plan on visiting again soon Mahalo!!

Pros: equipped kitchen, silent fans, comfortable bed, good location, friendly staff, dorms are cleaned every day, great Halloween decorations, free surfboards and bodyboards Cons: no curtains (very bright in the room in the morning), no doormat (sand gets in the rooms), smoking allowed, limited office hours, no outlets near beds, no individual lights, comparitevely expensive for what you get, poor wifi in the rooms

I stayed with my mother-in-law for a week at the hostel and it was AMAZING. The staff were so friendly, and the hostel had a family vibe that was so much fun. We loved playing cornhole, talking in the courtyard, and playing games with people from all over the world at night. Staying here was such a great memory for our trip to Hawaii! Thank you so much! -Brandi and Shelly

READ THE FINE PRINT. booked weeks in advance. Then upon arrival was turned away because I could not show a return flight home leaving me literally on the street 4000 miles from home. Rules are rules and I understand and respect that. My point is that this rule should be in bold print and not in some place a person has to “find” the information. The had no problem just turning me away. Then just to rub it in they took my deposit and charged me for 1 night because I didn’t cancel my reservation within 48 hours. Absolutely ridiculous!!!! Of course I didn’t cancel, YOU turned me away at the door. This forced me to spend 4 times the amount on my stay and a hotel.

I’ve been coming here for many years. This is the only place I will stay!! This hostel is superb in every way! As well clean. Professionally and personally run and a big shout out goes out to Rhonda, Hella and Amber!

This hostel is OK. The cost is about $90 per night for a double private room. For a shared room, it's about $50 per night. The bathroom, shower, kitchen, and living room are all shared, even if you have a private room. The location can't be beat. It's close to bus routes (line 20 will take you to downtown, the Honolulu airport, and USS Arizona Memorial). If you rent a private room, that's essentially all you get . The room is clean and there are fresh blankets. The mattress is thin. The Wifi is excellent. On the other hand, the rooms can be relatively dimly lit (only 1 light source in a private room). If you're on a budget and don't care about comfort, then this place is fine - most hotels in Honolulu/Waikiki will cost your 2-3 times more. From Hostelworld.com: Welcome to The Seaside Hawaiian Hostel, the original and only family-owned and operated hostel in Waikiki. For over two decades, we have been the spot for backpackers and travelers of all ages who are looking for an easy-going and laid-back atmosphere in Oahu. Step outside of our gates and you will find yourself mere minutes away from all that Waikiki has to offer- city exploring, world-class restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and of course, the world-famous Waikiki BeThis ch. But while you're within the walls of our property, you'll find nothing but peace, calm, and the best vibes. We're located centrally in the Waikiki neighborhood of Honolulu. We are also 2 short blocks from Waikiki beach and walking distance from everything else in Waikiki like surf spots, dining, shopping, parks and coffee shops.
