Let's talk. I found this place only while here on G- maps. If you know about real real, this place served up the real real real. The locals are 2000% right about Sunrise Restaurant. Yes, I dined-in, and ate like my usual piggy self. The sushi rocks, and it's fresh! Not fluffed up with watered down wasabi and flavorkess ginger. Let me repeat that. The sushi rocks! We also had the bitter melon and the dynamite. Bow to the food gods. Thank you. If you're after all that atmosphere, well you might not be. However, you will be - if you're after the real real. 21/4/23 Back visiting again, and enjoyed another delicious dinner. This place is a must eat. I'll repeat what I said before. It's not fluffed up with watered down tourist food. I enjoyed sushi, sparerib soup, bitter melon, and grilled salmon. 5 star delicious 🤤😋😋

Great hole in the wall restaurant ran by the most nicest couple. They treat their customers very well and I always see regulars here always having a great time. They specialize in sushi and Okinawan cuisine. They currently have a sushi platter deal for only $35, which you need to call a day in advance. I also love their pig feet soup!

Authentic Okinawa food. Which is not quite the same is mainland Japanese food. Visits a few times for different items. Pork feet soup is a must. Okinawa soba is great. Bitter melon (goya) champuru is great as well. Fried squid is good for beer. Grilled salmon is good. Restaurant is small and they can get super busy. Definitively secure a spot with reservation. BYOB without corkage fee- alcoholic beverage from seven eleven next door gas station or Okinawa beer (Orion) from mitsuwa market at Waikiki. Seen locals with red wine, sake, local beer and etc.

Homemade style Okinawan cooking. Simple and very delicious! We shared the pork bittermelon and I had the spareribs soup and sushi combo. Yum! Very small place, street parking mostly.

We got take-out from here based on the reviews. The bitter melon with "pork" used Spam instead of pork. The salmon wasn't actually a whole piece of salmon but salmon scraps molded together in the shape of a filet. I think it might have been canned. It was sadly one of the worst meals we've had and we threw out the leftovers which is something we never usually do.

One of the best, if not the best Japanese restaurant in Oahu. If you’re looking for a home cooked experience in a humble environment, this is where you want to go. Everything is delicious!

The place is a whole in the wall no frills kinda place. I love how the owner lady does not talk to us in English at all. I felt like I was in Okinawa again. We ordered sushi, sashimi, soba, and stir fry noodles and tempura. The broth…. Is so clean and so tasty, seasoned perfectly, and the fish is soo fresh. Must try. Call ahead if you can.

Mensore! You are welcomed here! Earn five stars from me for being here since ever since. Longevity has it's graces: all about a consistency. Delicious Ryukyuan /Okinawan food served up with BYOB to perfection. To thine own self be true--placed before you in bountiful portions. A taste of Okinawa in Honolulu.

Tiny restaurant serving home style Okinawan food. Quality was good but it was very crowded.

Best no frills, chill feel like you're in your grandparents’ living room eating a meal kind of a restaurant. Came for dinner before, lunch was also amazing. Lots of locals who know each other, we walked in and an older gentleman was casually doing magic tricks for the next table over. Loved the salmon dynamite, sushi also very good! Bob, no pretention, all delicious.

All I can say is wow Would have loved to find this hidden gem earlier in our stay, we had the nigiri sushi combo, grilled mackerel, miso/pickle/rice, and the spare rib soup. All were delicious and amazing overall. The sushi was fantastic, best miso soup ever, spare rib soup was mind blowing, the meat was so tender it was incredible!!! The mackerel was cooked to perfection. Absolutely amazing all around. Highly recommend in every category.

Such a wonderful restaurant! The food was delicious- highly recommend the Dynamite. Our waitress was so sweet and kind and after dinner the owner performed traditional music. One of our favorite nights in Oahu! Be sure to call beforehand for a reservation.

Small mom & pop izakaya atmosphere if you've ever been to one. $18 Combination soba + sushi good for one. Will be coming back to try the other items!

Stumbled across this must try Japanese restaurant in Honolulu. So glad I found this gem. Once you walk into Sunrise you automatically feel like you entered a home kitchen where you know you'll be served food from the heart and soul. The restaurant has been around for over 2 decades and the husband and wife owners of the restaurant were so nice and welcoming. They even preformed a song in between the cooking and serving which was such a special treat. Hands down one of the best hamachi kamas I ever had and the ahi tuna was fresh and delish. This restaurant is definitely a must visit every time we are in Honolulu. Best to make a reservation or call the restaurant to see if there are any openings if it's the same day

Authentic Japanese sushi and soup in small, unpretentious venue. Seemed to be enjoyed by locals. For those who want great sushi at good price and nothing fancy. BYOB.

Authentic Okinawa cuisine, sushi was mediocre.

Ooooshi! Okinawan food! The pig feet soup and spare rib soup is so yummy! I love the soup base. Most of the 🍣nigiri sushi comes with wasabi on it 🙊! I keep forgetting to ask them no wasabi please! 🤦🏻 Call in order to take out, finding parking can be a bit hard there, or a far walk.
