Waimea Bay is famous for its 30-foot waves in the winter and is a top place to watch some of the world’s best and bravest surfers. During summer, the water calms considerably and is a great destination for swimming, snorkeling and diving. There's fantastic sunsets here and a large rock that locals & tourists jump off of. The movie Point Break was also filmed here!

We visited several beaches along the north shore. All extraordinarily beautiful. The swells were huge. Crashing of waves quite loud. It was thrilling. Parking at some is difficult, as you need to park along the very busy road. Restrooms well taken care of. Loved every minute of it.

Nice size beach with beautiful ocean views. Also has a few picnic tables and some tree shade. This is a big wave beach, so not for novice swimmers. Totally loved it without getting in the water.

This was our favorite beach while we were there in June. Nice and calm. Crystal clear. Swim, snorkel, jump off the rock. We went here twice and on our last full day tried another beach and wish we would've just went back here. It's soooo nice. Parking is tough though and traffic gets bad on the weekend. If you come in the afternoon there's not going to be any parking at the main entrance but you can pay for parking at the entrance to Waimea Falls across the street and down or go a little further and sometimes you can pay to park at the church. Loved this spot!

Amazing beach. Nice and calm in the summer and great for swimming and snorkeling with a rock to jump off. In the winter it has huge waves for the surfers. It has bathrooms and a shower to rinse off. Limited parking though so you might want to get there early. Overall though it's a great beach with lots of shoreline too.

Such a fun beach day! Best way to see Ohau is simply beach jumping. Every stop you make is a completely different vibe. Don't go to Waimea and not jump. Wonderful experience, beautiful water....surrounded by beauty. Go early to get best parking or be prepared to circle a bit.

We can not get enough of Waimea Bay Beach. You can park at the Catholic church parking lot for $10. Tuesday through Saturday. Quick walk over to the beach. Or get to the parking lot by 8am to maybe find a parking place. You can park up the hill, too. People are coming and going all day long. One of our family's favorites!!!!

Waimea Bay Beach Park beckons with its enchanting allure, inviting visitors to witness not only a gorgeous sunset but also the mesmerizing dance of amazing waves. The natural beauty of the surroundings adds a touch of magic to the experience, creating a captivating and serene atmosphere. It's an ideal spot for those seeking both tranquility and the thrill of nature's wonders.

Loved this place! Rock jumping, clean beaches, clearest water I seen on the island, good snorkeling! Easy to park if you get here early enough, also parking is everywhere - sides of the road, up the street. There’s a grocery store about 10 minutes walk from the beach. Fun place, would definitely recommend to visit.

Very heavy waves! One must in know what to do in order to get in the water. Otherwise it is just a nice place to watch the waves break. I personally did grow up at a beach with same features (thick sand, slope toward shore, short break of big waves) so I enjoyed it. Once one passes the waves, behind them it is like a pool, but of course one must be kicking and floating. One gets tired quick.

Waves were 10 feet plus. Surfers were giving an awesome display of prowess. Overcast and light rain. Parking a little challenging.

Nice beach with lifeguards, clean and beautiful water. Occasionally, you can see some wildlife, like turtles and fish, but can sometimes spot seals as well. This beach is also a great place to see sunset or a moonrise. Parking can be a hassle.

One of my favorite beaches to go during summer because the water is calm and there are no sharp rocks or reef at the bottom. I also saw 2 turtles on my last visit that were very close to shore, munching on seagrass happily. It gets extremely packed and the parking is limited so I recommend that you come early because when we were leaving at 11 am it was already so packed. There is a lifeguard, public showers and restrooms available for visitors. There also picnic tables around the area. This is also a favorite sport for swim races during the summer.

Stopped off the north shore at Waimea Beach Park. Another beautiful beach in Oahu! With white sand, crystal clear water with calming waves. Just a gorgeous view!! The park has a few picnic tables, restroom & a lifeguard on duty. There's an amazing cliff that people were having fun & jumping off. Bring your picnic gear and enjoy this amazing beach ⛱️

This is a wonderful beach, crystal clear water and plenty of amazing views. There are picnic areas, plenty of beach sand and public restrooms. And of course it's facing west for those incredible sunsets.

Place is beautiful! There wasn't alot of people, considering I went on a Friday afternoon. The water was is nice and clean. Temperature was good for the time I went. The only thing, I didn't like is parking. There's a small parking lot, but people are constantly coming and going, so keep your eyes open.

During my visit (mid Jan), climbing and jumping off the rock was not permitted. Not sure if it was closed due to the season or permanently, but the rest of the beach, restrooms and rinse stations were still open. Lifeguard was also present. Great beach to visit and early bird gets the parking!

This beach probably fits the imagination I had for the Hawaiian beach. The waves are amazing and you see lot of people also enjoying cliff jumping on the left hand side from entry. If you are in mood for some safe cliff jumping into Pacific Ocean then just head over to this place with your friends and family

This beach is stunningly beautiful.. During the summers, it's almost completely flat, glassy, and see through! One of my favorite places to hang out in the summer.. During the winter, the waves get huge I love it! It becomes like a whole other beach..

Book your trips directly on parks web page, much cheaper. Try your best to make it, we enjoyed it much. Bring your own snorkeling equipment, towels and snacks.

Home of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Surf Tournament in the winter and the Waimea Roughwater Swim in the summer, Waimea is a waterman's delight. And if the scorching sun and waves aren't your thing, seek refuge on the north side of the beach next to the cliffside in the shade. You can see chalk on the cliffside where rock climbers have made their ways up the face. Don't jump off the big pohaku in the water unless you know what you're doing. Only the jumps from that rock that are over open water are doable, if reckless! Little known to most people is the lava tube that goes from one side of the big rock to the other, big enough for expert swimmers to go through. I've done it more then several times over my lifetime. In the summer when the bay is flat, you can roll in the shorebreak without any fear. If you are there on a lucky day when the river reaches the ocean you can even surf in the waves that the river makes during it's descent into the ocean. I once saw a sunfish in the bay, scared the bejesus out of me, but usually you'll hear dolphins and whales in the distance underwater. It's one of the most majestic beaches in the world.

Great beach spot! Good for swimming in the summer, waves were not too big. Saw loads of Dolphins from the shore. Parking can be tricky, but for $10 you can park just up the road at Waimea Valley - which is also a very cool place!

Excellent rock wall jumping. Good for sunset watching. Parking is extremely difficult in the small parking lot. There are additional FREE spots up the hill on the right side of the road (also limited) as well as more parking across the street in the valley but for a price of $20 if you drive back to the botanical gardens parking is $10 + a hefty walk. If no spots are available I suggest dropping off your passengers in the parking lot unloading your gear and then driving to the gardens to park.

Beautiful park and well maintained by the city and county of Honolulu. You may have to sit in the parking lot for a bit and wait for someone to leave but this beach is definitely worth it.

Summertime smooth, with few swells coming in. Great family beach with public restrooms & showers. Large rock people like to jump into the bay from. Beach gets run off from stream close by during heavy rains. SUPER HIGH SURF in winter. Big wave surfers competitions held here in the winter. Lifeguard on duty. Warns people on the beach with bullhorn, when rogue sets off waves come in. Very cool!🤙

Amazing beach!!! Parking is almost like winning the lottery.. I recommend (if coming from Honolulu) drive to about 30-minutes away, find parking. From there either Uber or take the bus. You’ll likely spend twice the time trying to find parking as opposed to traveling from here. Rock has an amazing jumping opp. (Approx 20’) Current very enjoyable when you let it pull you too and from the shallow shore. Showers and bathrooms available on site, Giovanni’s shrimp truck is also not too far away ^_^

If your visiting Hawaii definitely come here. It's nice clear water... and definitely jump off the rock if you aren't too scared lol

Amazing spot to snorkel and see some amazing fish. Need to make a reservation ahead of time or u can come between 7-9 am and get a timed ticket for entry. We were there at 0700 and there was already a line. Need cash for parking can pay with card or cash for beach entry.

One of the stunning beaches in Hawaii. Better go there early morning or later after 4:00pm during summer time as the limited parking space often gets full. There's a fresh water pond on the other side of the beach (its main water source comes from the valley of the mountains) with a cool relaxing breeze.

  • 4/5 Eve B. 9 months ago on Google
Lovely calm water and lots of deep sand for summer visitors! (The water at Waimea is decidedly NOT calm in the winter.) There’s not a ton of shade, so it’s a good idea to bring a canopy or pop-up if you can. Depth increases quickly, and it can appear shallow because the water is so clear—be very attentive to kids! The cliff jumping looked like fun, but rocks can be quite slick, so we skipped it. Women’s restroom stalls had no lighting and were quite dark. Definitely arrive early if you want to park close, especially on the weekends.

This beach is amazing, some of the clearest waters I’ve seen on the island. There are bathrooms with a changing room & showers. The only negative part is there isn’t hardly any parking but local tip you can park on the side of the road and take the path down to the beach!

This beach is beautiful for swimming during the summer months, when the waves and current, is perfect for swimmers of moderate levels. During the winter, however, experienced swimmers are advised as the waves can be dangerous and the current is extremely powerful. Aside from swimming, it's a great spot for surfing and a can't-miss cultural experience for Hawaii.

So this is hands down one of my favorite beaches on North Shore. Beautiful long and wide strip of golden sand. Crystal blue water. Great cliff for jumping off if you’re more the adventurous type. I am so it was a nice excursion for sure! People were bouldering to the left of the beach and if you snorkel, go to the left of the cliff everyone jumps from and you’re almost guaranteed to see sea turtles. We followed a family of three around for almost an hour. Super fun! Also saw dolphins jumping and spinning multiple days in a row. Great shower options on your way out as well as nice large bathrooms. Parking however is a PAIN. No matter what time you show up. If you’re staying in Haleiwa I suggest grabbing some Poke and just taking the bus. It’s no more than a 15 min ride and it will take you much longer to find a parking spot unless you get lucky! Great beach, spend the day. Absolutely Gorgeous.

Spectacular! Spent my last beach day in Hawaii here. The water is lovely. You do not need water shoes because it is not rocky. Spacious and not a lot of people. I could lay here all day. Bring your snacks and sit back and enjoy the day!

This was our favorite beach spot in Oahu. We got there super early on a Friday and couldn't find parking. We had to pay $10 to park in a lady's yard across the street. No biggie though. It was well worth it. The jumping rock was awesome. My 13 year old jumped off with his dad. Both said it was one of their favorite things to do on the trip. The rock is about 25 feet high. We also loved snorkeling in this area. We saw a sea turtle and tons of tropical fish. I recommend getting there very early if this is on your to do list!

Really hard to find parking so come early or late. Before 10am or after 5pm will make it easier to park. Beautiful beach, cool rock to jump off of. Great place for novice snorkelers .

  • 4/5 Carlos R. 10 months ago on Google
The beach isn't too big, but it doesn't get crowded either. The waves are big. The current is very strong for novice swimmers. There's a 20 foot high cliff to dive off of. There's bathrooms, picnic tables, and showers. There's a small parking lot for cars.

  • 5/5 brandon d. 9 months ago on Google
Best beach on the north shore IMO. Huge wave surfing in yhe winter, and great swimming and rock jumping in the summer. Crystal clear water and comfortable white sand to lay on. REALLY fun when the river is high and you can open it to the ocean and surf it.

  • 4/5 Diana B. 9 months ago on Google
Water temps & mild summer wave action were delightful, stickiest sand I've ever encountered! Big beach, lots of people but never felt crowded. Parking, of course, is tough but doable. We were there in early afternoon. Outdoor showers, indoor restrooms, large grassy picnic area.

👍👍 Beautiful place to view the wild sea turtles. Not recommended for surfing or swimming since the waves are pretty big. Parking can be a challenge in the afternoon. Please keep a safe distance from the turtles since they’re Federally protected animals, and they bite.
