Throughout the last sixteen years, my family and I have have experienced below average care from some of the worst people I have ever met. Fully aware of the magnitude of that statement, it is neither exaggerated or carelessly said. I truly mean it. The emergency room staff have managed to be consistently cold, prejudice, negligent, arrogant, ignorant, and at times hostile in their rudeness. Most of the physicians we encountered, only wanted to be heard and obeyed. Our questions were met with overt annoyance and condescension. Most of the non-ER nurses were great. The exception being the ones who talk with each other like you're not there, and the ones who are too egotistical to admit they suck at finding veins for blood draw/placing IV.

I'm not sure if the people who are writing the 5 star reviews went to the same ER or hospital I did. I give the ER one star or less if possible, it is truly the worst and staffed by doctors and other that make it clear tgy would rather be somewhere else. the 2 stars are for the nurses who work really hard to live up to the standards the hospital sets & the nurses have a very good system in place when they hand your care off to the next shift. that's about it for positives...don't have time to write about the not good parts. In general the place scares me I hope to never go back.

Castle is one of the best hospital on the Island of Oahu and helps the community in times of our needs. They are giving job opportunities to all of the people who live here in Paradise of Hawaii.

Billing dept. is THE WORST! Not only do they lack expertise and professionalism in their field, they expect you to clean up the mess they made! They fail to send you itemized statements or bills then send your astronomical account to their unprofessional collection agency demanding payment. It happened to my elderly mother and had I not intercepted the call, my mother would've completely panicked. Because my mom has dual coverage, I knew she could not possibly owe the $40,000+ they said she did. After contacting medicare and HMSA, sure enough, my mother's account was paid and the amount owed in question was only $46.00, not $40,000! And to make matters worse, neither Castle Hosp. nor their collection agency can provide me with the information as to what the $46.00 charge is for. They expected me to pay my mom's account just because they said it's owed. HELL NO! I have filed a complaint with the patient advocacy office on behalf of my elderly mom in the hopes this does not happen to any other elderly person. Shame on Castle!

I wanted to make it clear that the doctor who scheduled my moms surgery, and rescheduled her surgery repeatedly, made it clear to our family that saving her life was really not a priority. On Friday morning, October 2, 2020 my mom was admitted to the ER. Her aorta was dialated twice its normal size. They gave her pain meds and blood pressure pills to keep her aorta from tearing . Mom was scheduled to have a Stent placed into her aorta that Friday afternoon since she looked like she was doing well and was coherent. However, her surgery was delayed for Saturday morning instead. Then, Mom's surgery was rescheduled yet again for Saturday afternoon, and apparently, surgery isn't done on Sundays! I questioned the many delays in her surgery and the response I got from nurse Joy was that she looked like she's doing well. I've been messaging back and fourth with mom and she complained she was in a lot of pain. While my mom struggled with pain through Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, her surgery was finally scheduled again for early Monday morning. However, the doctor had pushed it back again for later that afternoon. These delays were quite tiresome and very frustrating. Sadly, Mom's aorta tore and she went unconscious Monday morning, and passed away with an aortic dissection and hypertension. Had the doctor decided to do her surgery when scheduled in the first place, her chance of survival would have been greater. It wasn't made clear why the constant delays (5x), but my family and I spoke to several other doctors from other hospitals for their advice. Her "surgery shouldn't have been delayed for as long as it was, due to the size and enlargement of her aorta". Also, we were told that If it were left untreated, about 33 percent of acute type A patients die within the first 24 hours, and 50 percent die within 48 hours. With that said, my mom's surgery was delayed for more than a 72 hour period. Too bad for the excess delays. Makes me think twice about the doctors who work here. They take a gamble on peoples lives when they delay surgeries constantly and without good reason. A life could've been saved and It's a shame that we couldn't be there to advocate for mom due to the strict covid19 restrictions too.

Our family has used Castleā€™s ER several times over the last 2 years and each time has been a great experience. From the front desk staff, triage nurse, providers, nurses, radiology and administrative staff- theyā€™ve all been respectful, timely, knowledgeable. I highly recommend their ER for any emergent medical needs

I went to ER at 3am having trouble breathing and after staying up all night with a very painful dry cough. I had just recovered from Covid and I wasnā€™t sure if this was related or if I had contracted it again. The doctor on call that morning did not take my complaints seriously. He claimed it seemed like my lungs were clear (they werenā€™t. I just happened to not be wheezing when he checked), and he refused to address the my main complaint which was the excruciating pain when I coughed. They essentially just sent me home without addressing pain, telling me there was nothing they could do. They didnā€™t prescribe me anything for pain but just albuterol and pills. Neither helped. I felt my needs were neither addressed nor were they taken seriously. I went home in physical pain and I couldnā€™t believe I would be stuck with a thousand dollar bill for nothing.

Of all of hospitals on Oahu, outside of the Kaiser network, this has got to be one of the better hospitals to visit. I have visited the hospital, more time than Iā€™d like to admit. From ER visits, doctor visits, and more, the staff here has treated both me and my wife very well. Even during these times, we were not treated any differently compared to prior to 2019. We have always been treated with respect and with the utmost care. It is because of their level of care, we prefer to have our health care only within Adventist Health. If push comes to shove, there is only one other hospital we would consider, but at all cost, we prefer to stick with Adventist Health for all of our health needs.

I came to this facility in pain after being referred here by the VA. This facility informed me to go else where because they do not treat veterans due to the VA not paying them.

I was referred to Adventist Castle for an ultrasound on my throat and neck. My ultrasound technician Allen was excellent !! He was friendly, caring, thorough, professional and most of all reassuring. He put me at ease by answering my questions about the procedure itself. I also enjoyed the responses he gave about his educational background and training. My guess is that he knew I was a bit anxious and answering my questions and talking to me would ease my anxiety. It sure did ! Thank you Allen (and the other people who made my experience a positive one from the Covid screeners, ER registration clerk and Imaging staff)

Went to the ER with a very painful back issue.. couldnā€™t stand for more than a couple of min without severe pain. Registration was fine. Got into assessment room and was essentially brushed off by the ER Dr.. even though I could hardly stand. I asked for an X-ray but they wouldnā€™t give me one.. I knew I needed an MRI to see soft tissue damage etc but due to insurance protocols X-rays comes first.. but the hospital ER Dr wouldnā€™t do one. They then sent me away with an RX for pain meds and muscle relaxers which meant walking and standing for another hour which I literally couldnā€™t do.. so not only did Castle hospital simply choose to not help me they also made things worse.

This was the best ER and surgical experience i have ever had at a hospital. I waited 5 minutes to be triaged and given a bed. Unheard of in the ER. Checkin was friendly and quick. The doctors, nurses, and surgeon were incredible and got me in and out the same day. They clearly communicated everything to be so i knew what was going on before during and what to do after my urgent surgery. Thank you Adventist I will recommend you to everyone and have peace of mind knowing how you all treat your patients. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, clean and organized!

I absolutely love the labor and delivery staff that helped me give birth to my daughter on Monday. They made the experience so wonderful and not once did I ever feel like an inconvenience to them. They are the most compassionate people. They took wonderful care of my daughter in the Nursery and always made me feel like everything was going to be okay. Thank you to every staff and doctor that made me feel calm and loved. I will definitely be coming back if the chance ever came up!

My husband came in to the ER at 8:30 pm. Took him in at 9:15pm. And said they would call me for an update. No staff has called me yetā€¦it is midnight, Iā€™m sitting in my car. Oh, staff just said no to a patients daughter who has to use the restroom. Not the friendliest greeting and was sat six feet from a patient who had a fever, coughing, runny nose and sneezingā€¦Gross! This patient had to take a Covid test because of fever, but still sat my husband nearby.! I made him move a little further. He came in after calling his doctor and him recommending to go to ER with symptoms of headache, nausea and high blood pressure reading. He said ER staff was being kind but ordered a scan and when he came out told him the computer was down. Canā€™t read his scan? Put him on IV and meds for assuming blood pressure and headache. My husband just called me and said doctor came in and said scan shows no bleeding and will be discharged. Thanks for zero updates Castle! My husband had to update me along the way.

Amazing staff! Everyone who I spoke with was kind and attentive, they make sure you are cared for and informed. I felt very comfortable, which is not an easy thing to achieve in an ER. I am so grateful to have been treated there.

Best hospital experience I have ever had. Fully engaged staff. I was in the psych unit. They provide you with resources to recover. And set you up with a personal social worker to assure your individual success outside of the unit! A God send!

Amazing staff. From the moment I was brought in by ambulance till I was discharged. Every encounter I had with a nurse or doctor or maintenance it was so beautiful. They are so caring and compassionate and spot on in getting my health crisis under control. I hope if anyone is ever sick they choose to come to this hospital. You'll be so blessed. I was. Thanking God for all of these hardworking Angels šŸ˜‡

Beautiful birthing center with supportive staff, helping you have a safe delivery but also listening intently to your wishes and concerns. The jets in the tub were a real bonus! Lactation support improved my latch so I could stop wincing in pain each time. OB checked in very regularly and were very approachable. Great epidural. Everyone happy to have siblings visit. No complaints!

My experience with the radiology department is great as always. I had an MRI done and everyone was wonderful. They had a warm blanket ready and the wedge pillow was also great for my comfort. I didnā€™t have to ask and they were very proactive in ensuring my comfort. They were very friendly and explained everything to me

Good in terms of wait time to get called in, X-ray results and discharge processing. Never saw the doctor even when the nurse said he will come in to see you three times, the doctor never stopped by. The nurse was excellent and caring. He followed up and checked back while providing updates what to expect next. Guess I can skip paying for the ER doctor then.

I had an MRI scheduled in the evening at 7:00pm and was asked to arrive at 6:30 to be checked in and ready to go. I showed up on time. Registration was easy and the gentleman who helped couldnā€™t have been friendlier. When I got to imaging I was told that there was an emergency room mri that was rushed in and my appointment would be late. The woman who was there at imaging was so kind and apologetic. Offering me so many things to make me comfortable since I would be waiting a while. Itā€™s a hospital. Things happen suddenly out of their control causing delays. I wasnā€™t bothered but she still seemed so sorry. The gentleman who did my MRI was friendly kind and so calm. He explained everything clearly and was very attentive. Everyone I came in to contact with was patient and friendly and supportive. It made the appointment a breeze even with the delay

I went in for an echo cardiogram and it was good, the staff was very friendly, caring and professional. The one thing that did surprise me was when they started the procedure and placed that jelly stuff on the wand to see inside of you - it was nice a day warm, I was expecting cold but they warm it up. šŸ‘

This is the second time that I've had a great experience with the nurses at Adventist Health Castle. Nurses Matt, Cody and Nate were so friendly and helpful. Dr. Chin was also wonderful! He is the first doctor that did a follow-up text asking how my mother was doing. We need more health care workers like him and the nurses. Thank you, Adventist Health Castle, for giving us great service while my mom was in the ER!

There was a nice staff person who walked me to my appointment because I got lost. My experience was flawless from start to finish and all the staff seemed genuinely happy. They were so nice and it was one of the best patient experiences I have ever had. They kept checking in on me and asking if I had any questions.

This time is was so much better since my last visit, which was to ER and I managed to survive. Anyways, from the registration desk, who kindly informed someone who rudely interrupted her that she will help her as soon as she completed servicing the person she was in the middle of registering, me. Then once completing at the checking in desk, gave me directions where to go and seeming a little lost in the hallway another staff member asked me if I needed help and directed me. The nurses, medical assistants and technician were all so very very helpful and pleasant in preparation for my surgery in a couple weeks help me feel less nerveous I'll be taken of well for my surgery by their very confident doctor.

This is my 3rd surgery at Castle. The first 2 was outstanding. This time was a little different. My pre op nurses were wonderful. Special shout out to Renee for her compassion & kindness. My post op nurse was not so wonderful. She had minimal compassion & seemed very impatient. She gave me painkillers for my stiff leg pain & numbness that was way too strong which made me nauseated & only added to my distress. She rushed me to discharge before I was even ready. I told her about intense burning & irritation in my eyes that she kept telling me was my own fault & that I must've scratched it while under anesthesia?? She told me to go to the ER to check it out instead of offering me any help. After being discharged, I spent the rest of the day in the ER addressing my eye issue. The ER Dr told me it was abrasions due to the tape that was put on my eyes during surgery šŸ˜³ wow. I was given antibiotics & sent home. The last disappointment was my surgeon. I'm sure he is an amazing surgeon but his bedside manner was definitely questionable. Because it was an "urgent" microdiscectomy it was a scheduled quickly & I had no choice but to move forward immediately. He didn't explain enough to me before or after the surgery so basically I was left blindsided in recovery. I called him to discuss & he literally talked down to me as if I didn't understand how things work?? Instead of getting upset, I decided to not be offended & focus on my healing. I am recovering slowly & this is day 5 post surgery. Overall I am saddened by the way things worked out but I am remaining hopeful for complete healing relying on God's grace.

The Doctors and nursing staff were excellent! I was in the hospital three times in just over a month, eventually getting surgery. All three visits, I had an amazing staff. Those nurses deserve a raise! Nothing but praise from me.

Excellent service and quality of care. Had to wait a while for various things, but staff apologized for the wait time and were clear in their instructions. Staff answered all questions clearly. Doctor Jacobson was personable and explained things clearly. Doctor Jacobson had a better bedside manner than other ER docs that Iā€™ve seen at this location.

I went to ER last Thursday. Overall process of getting registered and checking in at Castle was excellent. Employees are great and they did great service for me. The nurses were checking on me every-time I needed. Their stuff is kind and knowledgeable. At the end of the night I had surgery. It went well. Thank you so much stuff, nurses and doctors. šŸ™šŸ™

It was the perfect time of day when I arrived. There was no one waiting, I was put in a room right after the paper work was done. The physician, x-ray tech, and nurse came in separately and right away. Everyone introduced herself and why she was there. They were all professional, kind, and informative. I was discharged within the hour with a diagnosis and instructions for caring for my sprained ankle

Christian was a true professional, he was patient, understanding and treated me with the respect. It was a daunting experience but he was extremely patient with me, and showed tremendous problem solving when my head simply wouldnā€™t fit in the MRI. He was calm cool and offered an option that led to success.

We found the Castle Emergency Services staff to be very friendly and accommodating. We were pleased by the cleanliness and quality of the ER rooms and appurtenances. Verification of a suspected "broken foot" required X-rays - allowing an additional insight into the quality of the facilities. The ER doctor and RNs were "top notch", friendly, and compassionate. We have nothing but compliments relevant to our experience at Castle Medical Center.

I just had to give my thoughts on Castleā€™s ER. Iā€™ve been here 2 times now and both times I was given the best care and treated like I mattered and I was their priority which I know is hard to do especially with the state of medical care right now. I will choose castle over tripler if god forbid I have to make another Er trip. Iā€™m always in and out in an hour or two as well. Cant say enough good things about the folks over here.

Everyone was friendly and helpful, especially my MRI tech, she was real patient when I didn't always follow her directions correctly. She was so kind, and I loved the chocolate fortune cookie, but unfortunately, since I ate it so fast, I also destroyed the paper fortune inside, so I wasn't able to read what it said. What a drag! Oh well, there's always next year!

I just went to Castle Hospital last week as a patient. My Nurses and assistants were the best! Joshua and Gerald were really sweet. Gerald went above & beyond to make my ā€œstaycationā€ the best. My other nurses when I moved rooms were also great! Sorry I donā€™t remember all of their names. Everyone there were really nice. Mira from HR was also awesome. She helped me so much by getting me a ride home. I thank them all for making my stay there as awesome & epic as it could be! I highly recommend booking your next staycation (aka medical procedure) there.

I had to go into ER last Tuesday early morning. I ended up having to get surgery to remove an inflamed appendix. From the moment I arrived, I was treated very professionally, with compassion, and great care. The staff, nurses, doctors, everyone I met was friendly and attentive. They very efficient in getting my necessary tests and reaching a diagnosis, responding to my requests for anything, and putting me at ease prior to surgery. I can't say enough great things about this hospital, especially the ER staff. Even the volunteer who wheeled me out to meet my wife who picked me up was awesome, smiling, super friendly. 2 Thumbs Up, keep up the awesome work you guys!!!!

Was woken up late at night with severe ear pain, after having been sick for a week, and told by Urgent Care that what I had was viral. Staff was prompt in having me seen, offices were clean, and the nurses and Dr. were extremely caring. Everyone showed compassion and took the time to listen to my complaint. Dr. gave my diagnosis/treatment plan, and the discharge nurse took time to sit and speak with me about my treatment, made extra recommendations, and spoke on a personal level. Very pleased with the care offered, and appreciated the card mailed to my home.

It was a good experience, from the beginning in checking in, going to Admissions and then on to the designated department was very smooth. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. A clean professional environment. Plus it is quite close since I live in Kaneohe and that is a joy to me for a short and reduced travel time. All that said I am pleased to be associated to a high quality medical facility.

We had our daughter there via C-section on Valentineā€™s Day and couldnā€™t be happier with our care. From the doctors to nurses to lactation consultants to techs to the wonderful people kept us fed and our room cleaned. We felt so taken care of and spoiled. The women at the mammogram and ultrasound department were very friendly and efficient. The tech who took scans of my breast was very careful not to hurt my breasts while trying to get the best images she could . It was the most painless mammogram I have ever experience. From checking in at 10:30am to receiving a mammogram and ultrasound I was out by 12noon. Before leaving I also was given the all clear message from the radiologist who looked at both Mammogram and ultrasound sound Scans. Mahalo
