***BREAK YO NECK BEACH*** ***BUTTOCKS BEACH*** Just past the famous Blowhole, this is the hot spot for locals, both young and old. Perfect for boogie/body boarding. BEWARE: shoreline breaks hard and only experienced swimmers & borders most of the season. If you look like a tourist, the lifeguards will tell you not to get in the water. If you're a boarder, bring shorty fins. Food trucks in the middle. Restrooms in the center. Great place for kites. Enjoy! Mahalo! Brian Hargis Local Guide

Gorgeous beach but primarily a "local's" spot. I love coming here because you get away from the madness of Waikiki. The views are amazing and the drive to get here is always gorgeous with a few great stops for picture taking. Although the beach itself is stunning, be very mindful if you decide to swim here. There are many hidden rocks under the water and the conditions can sometimes get a little dangerous. Most of the people that go in the water are locals and know the waters really well. This is a great spot for bringing some good poke/food and enjoying your meal on the beach. Parking is free and there are usually plenty of parking available. Public restrooms are available. Come to this beach if you want to just slow things down and chill.

I would prefer makapu beach over sandy beach for few reasons. Less number of people. Same view, in fact better view than sandy beach. breezes. Easy tides and soothing currents But this has better easier parking accessibility and more number of surfers.

Favorite place in the world. It's definitely a local spot, and only if you have swim fins because the undertoe is gnarly and you will get swept up and thrown down again and again. But that's what makes it Sandy's πŸ˜† There's a reason this beach has the most broken necks and backs of anywhere in hawaii. Great beach to watch the body boarders and surfers anyway and really comfortable white sand to lay on. There's plenty of parking and usually a food truck. Showers and bathrooms also.

Incredibly dangerous beach with sharp drop off right where waves crash, which is right where you enter the water. Neck breaking, back breaking, head splitting accidents occur all the time. Not for any but the most expert surfers who know and understand these waters. Beautiful, translucent waves of turquoise churn stark white foam on pristine sandy beach. A gorgeous view to behold.

Great lookout to take pictures and look at the waves crashing on black rocks. There is also a nice little beach at the bottom with potentially dangerous waves...

Sandy Beach lives up to its name and provides for a beautiful, scenic location for photos, family outings, surfing and just relaxing for the day. There are lifeguards, public restrooms, outside showers, ample parking and a food truck selling shaved ice.

Beautiful, strong waves undercurrent, has great parking, toilets and showers. 1 food truck. There's life guards patrol towers. Need to drive here.

This is one of our favorite beaches to visit. Big waves, soft sand, and a lot of locals out surfing and body boarding. It's always fun to watch and relax on the beach. Parking can be difficult, especially during peak times in the afternoon. We went for the sunrise and had plenty of parking to choose from.

Looks like a good area for people to surf at. Fairly large waves, but not advised to swim here. A beach where you can spend your days away!

One of our fav beaches to visit when we're in Oahu. It's much quieter than Waikiki Beach and it's the perfect spot to just enjoy the surf and sand. Not a lot of amenities around here so best to pack some food and water.

Super cool spot with enough surf to keep you entertained. Lot of body / buggie board surfers. Fun to watch, might have tried it if I were 40 years younger!

The best surf πŸ„πŸ½β€β™€οΈ spot on the South Shore of Oahu! Big waves and constant barrels for the experienced surfer. Decent size parking lot with a lifeguard.

Not a place for novice swimmers. Waves can be brutal and cause serious injury if not careful. Sand is amazing! Sounds of the waves are amazing! Watching the experienced body surfers is also amazing.

A beautiful small, local Shorebreak beach. Wash off the Sand in the well-maintained bathroom.

We have been going here for a long long time. It’s one of the best beaches to WATCH the waves. If you even think twice about getting in, don’t. If you don’t have fins, don’t go in. If you just questioned what the heck are fins, don’t go in!

It's a fantastic wave and beach, but you have to be really careful if you're not an expert surfer. We only went for a quick boogie board ride, and that's when we really learned what rip currents are all about. It was here that I wished I had learned to surf properly. It really is a fantastic ocean.

Not great for leisurely swim or kids, but a beautiful spot to watch waves or surf/boogie board if experienced

Beautiful beach, nice soft sand. We just stopped to walk around and watch the waves, we heard they can big. Good amount of parking when we went. Lots of people body boarding and some surfers further off. And YES, big waves, don't bring your young kids here, not a calm spot of water. Safer beaches down the road like 15 min

As they announced when we were there, this is not a beach to swim and certainly not for those inexperienced. It’s extremely dangerous - no joke - but beautiful with plentiful parking and easy access. Great to sun bathe and not go too far in the water unless you know what you’re doing!

Beautiful beach stop over when driving towards the north of the island. Lifeguards, parking, restrooms, showers and and a lovely beach

If you visit Oahu and spend all your time on Waikiki beach, I feel sorry for you because you’re missing out on all the other amazing (and way less crowded) beaches on this island including Sandy Beach. We found this spot by just driving along the east side just after sunrise. Lots of parking, clean bathrooms & amazing views of the mountains. Super peaceful beach to take a nice morning walk, and a fun spot to watch some early morning surfers and boogie boarders.

I grew up where the beaches are coral reef and lava rocks and the water is brackish. I normally don't care for salt water beaches but this beach is beautiful. My husband and I spent hours body surfing like we were children. Can't wait to visit again!

We went to chill out. The moon rise was a bonus on this night.

πŸ‘ Kinda traumatic. Went camping there and the tent caught on fire, flooded from rain storm, collapsed from the wind - then flew away, not to mention 1/3 of the beach sand coming inside, and the temperature going from freezing to hot when ever it pleased. I wanted to catch an Uber about 5 hours into th...

πŸ‘ A nice beach along the base on Diamond Head. There aren’t many trees for shade so the best times to visit are mornings and afternoons.
