Beautiful beach. I call this the “west side Waikiki.” Lots of locals. Best place to throw a birthday party. There’s a playground for children. There’s showers and lots of places to barbecue. The bathrooms aren’t too clean but there are a lot of people sharing it so that can be expected. Great food places nearby! Would recommend to all age groups.

Wonderful place to take families and little ones. Not many tourists, ample parking, calm waters and sandy beaches. There is a bathhouse but it is closed for renovations (April 22, 2023). There are portajohns and an outdoor shower available though. Grilling is allowed. Tents and canopies are also allowed. Parking does fill up fast. The north end of the bay is not protected, so that end is better for surfing. The south end is protected so you can snorkel and see the turtles and rays....and if you get there early enough, dolphins. Just don't get too close to the wildlife.

Good beach for families. Calm waters. However occasionally it can get big waves for surfing. When the water is clear during the summer it’s great for snorkeling. I’ve seen lots of marine life including sea turtles. Lots of sea turtles and sea lions frequent this bay. Dolphins also but usually far away. However the sea turtles like to go in shallow waters. Don’t be surprised is one swims by you or behind you. They can sneak up on you sometimes. Early morning walks on this beach are quiet and calming.

Our favorite beach away from tourists. It can get crowded with groups but for the most part it's easy to distance yourself and stay safe. Good parking. Great views. We love the local atmosphere and have never felt uneasy. There are lots of kids and locals relaxing with their ohana. Bring a trash bag with you so you can contain your trash and anything else you see around you. Always leave your spot better than you found it.

Especially for families with young kids and want to avoid big waves, this is a great beach with hardly any crowds. For our 10 day stay, we drive the 30-45min out of Wakkiki to come to this beach 3 times. Parking is easy and a quick 20-30 yards away. Restrooms are not clean, but I yet to find one at any beach. For context on this review - I'm a 'cranky dad' of 3 kids and hates crowded beaches and long annoying walk back to the car carrying all the gear. Beaches are clean, hardly any rocks walking into the waters, plenty of turtles to excite the children to snorkel, and a great view to enjoy.

Visited on a Friday on June 30th. The beach is sandy, the sea was calm, not crowded at all. Not suitable for snorkeling as the underwater was cloudy. Nice beach overall but not my top pick.

Love this beach, nice and quiet,no waves, no rocks, a lot of turtles. Local people were nice, too, except for a couple of weird persons. Good place to go with family. We took the bus, 2 hrs ride from waikiki.

It was perfect for my daughter (4) as she’s still intimidated by waves, here she was able to swim out further than she’s ever been because of the calm waters. We ended our nights here while in town to catch the sunset in the warm waters. The locals use this place for a rowing league; it was nice to see them rowing and practicing every night. Totally recommend this beach if you have small children. I did a couple sunrise swims here and saw sea turtles several times, as well as seals.

Went here to snorkel but the water isn’t clear enough, even swimming past the break wall. It is a very family friendly place. Lots of families out on the sand, out on paddle boards. Someone set up a volleyball net. Families were grilling(like all day, it made me hungry the whole time I was there. Haha). I saw a few people with their OC1s heading out to sea. There were also several dogs. Lol. While I was disappointed that I couldn’t snorkel, it was still a nice time just swimming and sunbathing. The parking for the break wall side is very limited. People were making their own parking spots that made it hard to navigate around the lot. There are trash cans everywhere for everyone’s convenience. So much space to have a family day. Idk if it’s allowed but there were lots of pop up tents all the way up to the waterline so I’ll definitely be bringing mine next time. Next time I go, I hope to stay to see the sunset. I’ve seen pics of them and can’t wait to see it in person.

There are many beautiful beaches on Oahu but Pokai Bay has my heart. The entire Waianae Coast is beautiful. Make sure to visit and clean up your garage when you leave. Mahalo Nui Loa

Really old school, inverse of downtown. Old guys doing it the old way, some folks running classes for kids, but everyone is sharing space. Good showers for cleaning after time in water. Life guards ready. It's also where the local out rigger teams practice in the morning and evening.

The local people gathering there for fellowship and talk stories.. Also the families can bring those kids to swim and gave a party or just to have a fun day.. also tourists attract the place to and some of the local people always tell them to be caution in the Ocean.
