The state park allows you to rent kayaks and more! If you want to kayak to the sand bar I suggest renting them for the whole day! Its an amazing experience. If you like to snorkel reefs are throughout the bay. When I went there were sea turtles swimming all across the sand bar eating sea grass. Highly recommended

Very pretty destination. Sandbar is the main attraction from here. The park itself is very rich in tropical plants and feels.

This State Park hold events such as wedding, birthdays, or whatever celebration you want. We came here for a wedding. It's such a beautiful space (inside and outside! The hall was decorated beautifully. And the outdoor space is just breathtaking! The space includes the ceremony area, reception hall, bridal suite with private bathroom, and security. The indoor space is definitely big enough for 300 people. The outdoor portion had space for outdoor activities (games or whatever) or you can just enjoy the scenic view. The park is near a beach which is open to the public. The event space areas are closed to the public while an event is going on (big plus). The food and drinks are catered separately. The staff were very kind and helpful. It truly is a beautiful space!

He’eia is small but offers a lot. You can explore the fishpond and enjoy the native plants they are rehabilitating. See authentic Hawaiian canoes being built. Kayak and snorkel on the sand bar just off shore. This park is a little gem!

Very unique place to visit. Go here to learn about the ingenuity of Hawaiians and how they built fish ponds. Also, you can see restored canoes. Beautiful views from the lookouts.

The park is currently OPEN! At least it was as of 08/04/20. EDIT- closed as of 08/08/20. Nice State Park that usually isn't very crowded. It has rest rooms and a few benches as well as lots of shade trees to lie under if the mood strikes you. It's on a bit of a point so you have great views of the bay and it usually catches some wind so it's nice and cool.

Why are all the cats here sick, hurt, and dying. So disappointing to come to a beautiful state park to be consumed with extreme emotions and sadness that no one seems to care about these sweet kitties!! It's one of the first things I've experienced on the island so far and I'm extremely disappointed

We discovered this park while driving around Kaneohe. It’s an easy walk around with spectacular views of the ocean with many shades of blue and turquoise. You can see the Kaneohe Sandbar on one side and a large fish pond on the other. Big parking lot. Bathroom on site, picnic tables and garden benches. There’s supposed to be a gift shop but we didn’t see it. We saw people working on canoes by the entrance and there were also lots of cats & chickens in the parking lot. We were glad to find this park. It’s definitely a nice spot to just walk around & take photos or sit and enjoy the view or have a picnic…we brought some malasadas with us.

This is a small park. It is perfect for a short walk, and there are comfortable chairs where you can relax and enjoy the view of the ocean. It would also be a great place to bring a picnic lunch.

Visiting He’eia State Park is a great way to enjoy the day with family and friends. I saw a lot of kayaking, boating, fishing and people having fun. There are rentals available but call ahead to check for availability. There were several chickens in the parking area having a great time.

Beautiful State Park that was once the location of Radio Station H. The Bones of Station H can still be seen and tell a story much different than the history we were taught in school. Also of interest is the 800 year old He'eia Fish pond.

From this place, you can see Kaneohe Bay. About a 30 minute drive when you're coming from town. There aren't too many people coming to this park. There are spots for you to canoe as well as some spots set up for outdoor wedding ceremonies. This is a very good place to visit if you want to see some of the island's beauty.

Awesome place to (sit on top) kayak out to the sand bars and snorkel. Bring water, food, towel, and a change of clothing. Showers and changing area behind the restrooms. Kayak rentals on site along with options for adding a dry bag, snorkel gear, and an anchor - best to call ahead.

Nice, wild and beautiful weather here. I 've never seen so many fish in my whole life. The water is warm enough that you can swim and wander around. I love how clear the water is. I recommend using reef-safe sunblock, and do not touch the corals to avoid damaging them. Also, be careful with the crabs and jellyfish as you snorkel around the sandbar. ❤❤❤❤❤

Watch the fish and breathe the fresh Oahu air as good as it can get! Coffee in the early morning and watching the sun rise is a great way to start your day, take the keiki for a swim on the shore side or visit the mom and pop for some ono grindz!

Love this place. Highly recommend over hanauma bay. Also bring a bag of cat food for the feral cat colony. Sweet kitties despite some nasty people who take swings at them. I would be at this park all of the time if I lived here. Nice staff. Good merch. Thanks!

Picturesque views! I have never seen oceanic waters like this - a mix of emerald green, soft grey, and crystal blue, each of which is clearly separated with a curved border line. Amazing!

School had very polite kids all around but we didn't want to bother them so we walked around quickly. We watched the Coast guard plane land across the bay. That was cool! Four stars because it would have been nice to have more explanation of what we were looking at is we walked around by ourselves.

They have Kyaking- but DON'T go if there is a little wind. It's makes it to ruff to paddle. & please be aware of the coral & don't hook your boat to it.

If you just wanted a nice place to picnic, this would be a great spot. There's no beach, but there are kayaks to rent with a put in spot.

Went here to rent a kayak and snorkel gear. Best prices around and a great experience to go out into the ocean and explore various locations (giant sand bar, coral reefs, and paddle past various islands).

Aloha e mea kipa - Hello visitors Please do not feed the animals you see in the parking lot and around the state park. I created the signs for the stewards of this park, Kama'aina Kids. We humbly ask for your help by not feeding them.

This is a very well maintained and lovely state park. It offers very nice views of the Bay and provides access to an old traditional Hawaiian fish pond. There are facilities for parties and events including, I'm told, kitchens.

Wonderful place for family activities and making memories! Beautiful surroundings, opportunities for activities (planned or spontaneous). Great for sightseeing, kayaking, snorkeling, etc.

  • 4/5 Ankit P. 3 years ago on Google
A big swathe of the west side of Kaneohe Bay is taken up by this state park, a favourite location for picnics with beautiful views of the coast. There’s also evidence of habitation going back centuries at the He’eia Fish Pond, a corner of the bay with a man-made reef built to trap fish. This is believed to date back somewhere between 600 and 800 years and has interpretation boards. He’eia Pier is the embarkation point for kayak and snorkelling trips out into Kaneohe Bay, and, thanks to its gorgeous vistas, is unsurprisingly a popular spot for wedding ceremonies.

I went out and volunteered at kako'o'iwi and it was really fun. I was able to get down and dirty doing productive work that helped out the farm. I recommend that you volunteer and help this wonderful place out.

The park is lovely but we really enjoyed renting kayaks there to use on Kaneohe Bay. It was much easier than going to Kailua to rent, especially when we wanted to stay in the upper bay area and didn't want to take around that point. I would recommend.
