Fun hike up a paved road. It's about 1.5 miles to the lighthouse view point. Although it's an upgrade going to the viewpoint, it's not strenuous but will make you sweat! Nice breeze at the top and a place to enjoy the view. No restrooms so be prepared before you start the trek.

If you love hiking. This is for you. 2 miles walk with 500 feet elevation. You can walk here with your kids and pets. You will experience the cool breeze from the ocean because it is an open trail. There is a light house at the top where you can take a good photos. The ocean views in this trail is perfect for panorama and selfies. It’s open from 7 am to 6:45 pm. Best time to visit here is morning from 7 am to 9am because the parking is limited( free parking). However there are available space for your car to park along the main road( few).

Really cool scenic hike! We saw a mongoose, sea turtles from the cliffs, and beautiful panoramic views! There is also history signs along the way. Fairly moderate hike on a paved path. Shouldn't bring dogs because of the lack of shade and hot pavement.

Paved path all the way to the top. Great views. On a clear day, you can see Maui and maybe whales if they are around. Interesting history, too. Bring lens cleaning wipes if you want to use the free binocular viewer stations. The lenses are filthy. Steep climb if you're not a hiker; take plenty of breaks, and you'll be fine.

Went around sunset and definitely worth the small hike! It is approximately 1 mile per way and the views at top is worth it! The path is paved and easy to ascend. There are chairs and resting areas all through out the path. Once you hit the fork, you have 2 options to go to the lighthouse itself, OR to ascend to the top and see panoramic views of the south shore! Id say the views are better at the top! Parking is ample and free, although there are signs about possible car break-ins. There are paths that lead to the beach, not paved and some are clearer than others. One negative, there are no bathrooms, so be prepared! Overall a very nice way to spend sunset and to explore a vista!

Absolutely beautiful stunning view!! Bit of a walk, on paved road so not to bad. It was a leg day of sorts!! Recommend going in the AM, cause that heat is no joke!! Seen a couple Wales out there as well...nice treat!! Going back again for sure

'I took the road less traveled by' and is incredible. The path is paved for folks using crocs, wheelchairs, or strollers. Historical markers are placed along the path giving you a reason to embrace the majesty, beauty and tranquility of Hawaii and the Pacific. It reminds me of the hike in Cali near Torrey Pines golf course.

Great easy but long hike on a paved path with scenic views as you ascend. Parking could be interesting but the final view of the Windward Shore of O'ahu is worth it.

Bus#23 from Waikiki towards East, bus won’t stop at the Makapuu Lookout so you have to walk back from Sea Life Park to the Makapuu lighthouse parking lot then walk down to the gravel road towards the shoreline.

A great hike up a paved path. Get there early to get a parking place. There are some Awsome views from the top. You can go hiking further up to the Pill boxes, but the old WWII pillbox is starting to crumble. Still a cool view of the bay with amazing blue water.

Nice wide asphalt path. There are a few spots of decent elevation, but also plenty of places to rest if winded easily. Views are amazing at the top. If using AllTrails, it shows there is a path down to a blowhole. Be very careful as the path is not clearly marked and there loose rocks everywhere.

There is a nice wide paved trail all the way to the top. There are places to stop and rest but no shade and no toilets in the park at all. Parking is difficult earlier in the day. The views are spectacular. You can even see some of the other Hawaiian islands in the distance. It is a very steep elevation gain, but it's a great trail.

Great easy hike with many resting places. The road is fully paved and wide. Great hike for families. Also during the winter months bring binoculars because the chance of seeing whales are high. The view at the top will make you want to stay for hours.

A long hike up! But, well paved to a number of beautiful views. Make sure you don't leave anything in your car. Lots of vandalism. And do pay attention to the signs advising what time the park closes. If your car is in the park -when they close the gates, you are stuck!

Vigorous hike with beautiful views. Saw several young whales playing offshore. Very hot and tired afterward. I'd suggest going early before the paved blacktop trail gets too hot.

This trail is also an easy walk. You can take your time walking it. The view is gorgeous 😍 it's worth it.

Beautiful view, nice short hike to the lighthouse, with an extra "kicker" for the strong hearted to hit the tide pools along the way. The view of the blowholes are awesome

Great place for a walk… Easy flat trail well improved and marked… Yet a wilderness area… Dogs abound good to keep them on a leash near the beaches in case there are Monkseals I go there for the sunrise And full moon settings… But the sunset is also quite lovely here… Also a popular surfing spot No facilities but sandy beaches nearby… Which has lifeguards and bathrooms and showers… Not at all wheelchair accessible… Unless you have off-road capability

Great hike. Really easy. It's about 3 miles up and back. It's all paved though so very smooth hike. It is all uphill so just know that but so worth it at the top. Great views.

One of my favorite hikes and pretty simple except for the 1st steep walk up ward

By far easiest hike since it's paved. Great for all family and friends to join.

One of my favorite walks on the island. The view from the overlook is stunning. Super crowded place so get here before 730am to get parking. There is a lot of street parking but it also fills up fast especially on the weekends. Very little shade so bring a lot of water and sunscreen.

Great scenic view. It let's you get close to the sea. Only thing is the lighthouse is off limit. It would be great if we can get to the Lighthouse. Thank you.

Paved hike up to the top with amazing views of the ocean and lighthouse. Definitely accessible for all. There are spots to sit and watch for whales(?). There is elevation and not much protection of sun. Bring water and put on sunscreen before going.
