A much easier hike than the Lanaikai pill boxes with great views from the second pill box. There are 3 or 4 muddy uphill sections but they are short and I think all but the first one by the trail head had ropes. Beyond the second pillbox is a trail that winds around the hill with trial that goes off to the left and follows the ridgeline to the two smaller hills along the ridge. But the best views are really from the pillbox.

Parking: On street next to McDonalds Hike Time: +/-45 min. each way Difficulty: Medium, slight inclines, can be muddy if rains. Overall a fairly easy hike through the forest on a somewhat maintained dirt trail. Multiple pillboxes to enter and check out. The real perk is the end view, perfect viewing of Kaneohe Bay, Sandbar, Chinamans Hat, etc. Possibly one of the best hiking views.

quick 15-20min hike, parking on the road a bit further down. I have seen people go up in sandals, but would recommend close shoes. within 15min you will be rewarded with a great view! wish dog owners would pick up the dog poo on the road

K, here's The Concise Deal™: - Stunning ~220-degree views of the Kaneohe Bay reefs and sand bar. Behind you there will be some bush. - Great for droning, but be aware that right in front, at 12 o'clock, there an Authorization Zone. My DJI app required my phone number. - I couldn't quite figure out the altitude, but it seems to be at least 100 meters. - Around 3pm, there was no wind (mid-April). - All the details you'd want about the trail (how to find the head etc.) are in my Concise Deal™ review for the Puu Maelieli Trail on Google Maps.

Try to only do this hike when it's been dry because if it's rained then the beginning part is very slippery and muddy so be prepared. Extremely rewarding hike at the end cuz the views are priceless

A great view and well worth the hike. By no means a maintained trail so be prepared with good shoes. If wet or been recently raining expect mud...Hawaiian red mud...which stains everything. Recommend waiting for a dry couple of days before heading up. Park in mall parking lot (McDonald's) and follow guard rail, against traffic, to trail head. Easy to find.

Gorgeous hike! The hike it's self is beautiful and relatively easy. The lookout is unbelievable. The trail head is unexpected but easy to find. The hike is easy and safe enough for children and families. One of the best hikes I've done on the island!

Beautiful hike. Can get difficult if it rains. Make sure you have traction. Feast on guavas during season. 👍

(Translated by Google) It is a trail that climbs gently When it starts to climb, it's after the rain There is also a place full of mud. In addition, there are two or three sudden places. There is no length of the steep part itself. It is about 30 to 40 minutes one way. You can climb in a simpler style. It is good to park your car at Ko'olau Shopping Center. The location of the summit is not so wide From Chinaman's Hat to Kaneohe Bay It is a wonderful view that you can overlook (Original)

We headed out on an early Saturday morning, expecting more people but the trail was quiet which was nice. It had been raining the night before so the ground was really muddy! Red Hawaiian mud that stains everything so beware. Do not wear good footwear bring old clothing etc. The trail was not too hard, easy enough if you are fit just slippery if it had been raining previously so beware. What we met at the top of the pill box was just breathtaking! Totally worth the hike and we sat there for an hour taking it in! Great views over Kahaluu and Mokapu. I suggest if you go early in morning you can catch the military testing flights land and take off from the base in the Marine Corps Air station. Wonderful experience!

Hitting this trail during a wet season is challenging. Go with go shoes and a hiking stick if possible. With steep uphill climbs and wet mud chances of slipping are good. There is lots of elevation changes, narrow passages, but look for red/orange markers to help guide you to pillbox. The hike took close to 3 hours round trip. 45-50mins to hike there, taking in view for an hour, then 45-50mins to hike back. Well worth the time and muddy shoes!

Great trail with a beautiful view at the end. Watch your head and your step, lots of short clearance spots and places where you need to make sure you have solid footing . Park in the shopping center and walk the 500 yards or so to the entrance. Hop the guard rail to make sure you avoid traffic!

Great, fun hike to the top. But it isn't easy, probably moderate. But the view one you get here is fantastic and unmatched.

  • 5/5 Geoffrey N. 4 years ago on Google
The view at the top is killer, was a good hike for my dog, plenty of shade on the way up. A decent elevation change so fairly good exercise. Highly recommended.

Relatively easy and enjoyable hike. Went in March and it was pretty muddy. Shoes pretty much covered but worth it.

Probably the best view on the island. Don't be discouraged by the first hill. It gets easier.

Expect mud on rainy/overcast days! I'm a hiking novice & took a few breaks along the trail-- but the view was worth it!

Great short hike with beautiful views and bunkers.

  • 5/5 Rachel O. 2 years ago on Google
This trail can get very muddy wear proper shoes, the entrance to the hike is along the busy street not the neighborhood maps takes you to (read other reviews for specific details). There are ropes available to hang on while hiking up the toughest slopes. The view is amazing. Overall relatively short hike but I would not recommend for beginners.

Great hike, amazing views. 1.5 Miles in each direction. About 3 spots where it gets rather steep but most of it is pretty level. Not very slippery if it has been dry out but can get very slick in spots during or after rain. I've seen people with little kids but I haven't taken mine young ones but my teenagers and dog make it no issues. Park at McDonald's, walk along to highway inside the guardrail for about 100 ft and it will be easy to spot the trailhead on your left.

(Translated by Google) It is recommended over the Lanikai pill box because there are few people. At the end of the climb, there is a magnificent view overlooking the sandbar. (Original) 人が少ないのでラニカイピルボックスよりもオススメです。登り切った先にはサンドバーも見渡せる絶景が広がっています。

(Translated by Google) Finally a very beautiful scenery is waiting for you. Overlooking the heavenly sea (sand bar). There are few people who trail. There is no parking space at the entrance, so it is good to stop at the nearby shopping mall and walk to the entrance.

Very easy to find, parking is hard to find but isn't the trails fault. A short trail most people should be able to accomplish, view is astonishing took only 30 mins to the top with plenty of ease.

As you pass the pillbox, the sea view suddenly opens up. It is a place visited by many beautiful locals. *You can see a private sign at the head of the trail and the trail is Short and easy*
