I’m not a good or great swimmer, but gave myself a try and I’m glad that I did it. Had an amazing experience snorkeling here. Simply beautiful and great beach, strong waves but manageable . We went early in the morning to avoid big waves and crowds and I would advise to swim with fins. It was a cloudy day but we still had a good time. If you snorkel toward the front of the power plant is where there are tons of fishes and turtles hanging and chilling out in the warm water outflow from the electric plant. We are fortunate enough to see and swim with turtles and fishes but no luck with dolphins! Showers are available but no bathrooms or places to eat nearby 😬. Overall this is the best beach with warm water for snorkeling by far. Can’t wait to be back. MAHALO ELECTRIC BEACH 💕🤙🏼

Excellent snorkel spot and great for amateur boogie boarders alike! The water here was SLIGHTLY warmer, nowhere near as much as I expected with what I was ready online. Three things to keep in mind: 1.) you’ll access the beach where the power plant is on your right side if you’re facing the ocean. There’s a parking lot, and I found parking to be plentiful on a July weekday in early afternoon. 2.) if you’re snorkeling, be prepared or willing to swim a good ways out. The tide has a been a little high lately, so perhaps it’s different normally, but you need to get at least 75 feet from the shore to make it really worthwhile. From there, I comfortably swam around to a lot of interesting reefs with lots of fish, including a couple species I hadn’t seen before anywhere else in my previous two trips to Maui/Oahu. This has to be a top 5 snorkel spot on this island! 3.) bring water shoes or put your snorkel fins on ASAP when heading out. The waves coming in can be fairly forceful, and just past the top of the shore, there are lots of rocks that could hurt or cut your precious feet quite readily!

Amazing snorkeling! We saw more turtles and fish here than at Hanauma Bay. Also swam out to the shark cove and met a tour group who said they'd just seen two reef sharks, but we missed them. We also heard that whales are often in this area. Next time...

I love coming to this beach with my wife, the views are amazing and there is alot of parking and a public restrooms/ shower's here to. It's one of the best places to come if you are a advanced swimmer and are willing to swim out to the pipe line, were you will see hundreds of fish and other ocean creatures, turtles. It's about 50 yards out or so. But even if you choose to stay in closer like me you can still see alot of different fish there. I gave it four star's because I don't think this beach is recommended for kid's as it can be very thrashing and demanding at times close to the shoreline, and there is not alot of beach/ sand here to spread out amongst people, no shade at all so umbrellas or something to cover up will help you out at this Beach. Bring your snorkeling gear you are always bound to see something at this Beach. I hope this helps you out and have a great day.

Water is super salty but clear as crystal. Getting in and out with your snorkeling gear on is kind of challenging the first couple of times. I spend hours here whenever I go. Just swimming with the fish and the honu. It’s against the law to touch the turtles so always maintain a respectful distance and allow them to do their thing. I always see divers spear fishing in this area. On the weekends, tour boats can be seen near the shore. Even with the crowded parking lot and boats, there is plenty of space to make it feel like it’s just you and the ocean life. I love it.

My favourite beach for snorkelling/free diving in Honolulu. Definitely not for first time snorkeler/people who don’t know how to swim as the current could be stronger than other beach and need to swim fast to pass the waves. But there are so much to see, we saw countless fish, reef, two turtles and an eagle ray within an hour dive. Get there early for better visibility and parking. Also most important thing, NEVER DIVE ALONE!!

Swim/snorkel in the right place and you'll have a great time. The restrooms are gross and the lots are often fairly full but the swimming in the southern area is great after you get out past the wave break. You might get to see some seals too!

we stopped to see this beach and we had a splendid encounter with a seal... The seal was lying on the sand and was resting... she had herself photographed without problems...

My favorite beach to snorkel! Strong current, difficult entry with high waves often times, so you will need to have good fins and swimming skills

I’m definitely a beginner snorkeler but this was the perfect outing for a first run. The turtles came out to play and the water is warm. The swim out was a little rough but worth it!

My car got broken into and my wallet stolen. Didn’t have any trouble other times I have visited this beach but am weary to leave anything in my car or on the beach while swimming.

I love electric beach, this is the place I learned how to surf. It’s a beautiful beach with super calm waves in the winter through early spring. It’s a bit off the beaten path for tourists which is also a plus, I enjoy the views here and the waves are suitable to learn to surf easily. If you’re not surfing it’s also really easy to swim here and I’d recommend it.

A nice beach, but we misunderstood how to find the pipe and ended up getting pulled out by the strong current, which we really were t expecting! It all turned out ok, and we were able to find it and see the fish, but I definitely enjoy Hanauma Bay more and felt I saw a lot more snorkeling there. (I did like that it was free and not nearly as crowded though!)

One of my favorite beaches on earth. The waves were pretty calm when we went swimming but the current will pull you out if you're not a good swimmer. Stunning water and parking which is helpful. I highly recommend. (photo taken by @chlocean)

Amazing local beach. Easy access for shore diving. Nice little reef at 15ft depth with many snorkelers and free divers daily. My 11 yr old completed his OW certification dives here.

This is honesty my favorite spot to snorkel on Oahu. It’s not overly crowded and there’s always places to park. I’d say you need to have some experience to snorkel here, but there is plenty of fish and reefs to see and explore!

Really small little beach park but there’s a couple of tables and the standard showers/bathrooms. There was also plenty of parking when I arrived in the afternoon on a Saturday. The sandy beach area with access to the water is extremely small. The rock outcropping does give beautiful views of the sunset. Really nice views although be careful of the tides, the waves are strong and pretty high but get lower when you get out of the cove a little bit. Don’t get out too far as you want to be able to swim back quickly if needed. Was able to see 2 sea turtles, plenty of fish, and of course corral.

Really nice beach. I don't like that it is next to a power plant. It is a good place for snorkeling since it is pretty much a natural aquarium, but it can be wavy.

Great beach for snorkelling. Sandy beach with a lot of rocks in the water where the fish like to hide. Went early on a week day.Very few people. Were on the west side of the power plant outflow which also attracts the fish with the warm outflow. No facilities here.

Beautiful beach, apparently one of the best snorkelling spots on Oahu but it’s very rough so it’s definitely not for beginners. The west coast is a little unsafer in terms of belongings etc. but compared to other parts of America/the world it’s nothing. But always make sure to lock your cars and keep a close eye on belongings when swimming.

Fantastic place to snorkel for free! Just make sure to take a buddy, and stay away from the cliffs. There are no lifeguards here to pull you out if you get into trouble. When in doubt, don't go out.

Calm area with no crowd. If you snorkel off towards the front of the electric plant is where there are tons of fish and turtles hanging out in the warm waters. Only thing is they stole our umbrella while snorkeling. Many spots to park along the road. It was our favorite place to snorkel on the island.

July 5th, 2023. We had a F'N BLAST. Free parking, free restrooms, free fresh water showers outside the restroom to take off the salt water. Bring your own snorkel gear or scuba. Water was a bit cold, but F it once the waves hit you at the shore you're all set. There is a current here and waves will come in and out. Experienced swimmers and/or experienced snorkeling is recommended. You can venture out as far as you'd like, but keep the current in mind. There were ZERO sharks around. There was plenty of tropical fish everywhere. Careful for the sea urchins on the rocks under water. I recommend wearing water shoes here to protect your toes and feet.Sea turtle came right up to us and wasn't afraid of human presence. Bring your own hydration and whatever food you'd like to eat. You can lay on the beach and catch some rays while your kids can play in the sand. Everyone at the beach was very friendly. Can't wait to do it all over again. Unless you're not experienced at snorkeling or swimming don't waste time and money on a snorkel excursion. The excursion takes you to the same spot just a little farther out not even half a mile. You can see the excursion guests and could literally swim up to them if you wanted to. If you get tired easily of swimming I recommend using a life vest or a floatation device of your choice. Be respectful of all marine life and you'll have a tremendous experience. Careful for the big rocks on the edge of the beach as they're razor sharp and the waves can push you against the rock wall. Other than that have a great time and let others on here k ow of your experience.

It CAN be quiet.... But every hour or something the electric plant turns on and it's INSANELY loud.... When it's not on, I agree with the other comments that it's quiet and peaceful and not as busy as other beaches. Really rocky so hard to get in/out of water without stumbling a bit. Looks like some small but steady waves for surfing. Overall decent but the power.plant noise ruined it for me... We had to yell to talk to each other....

This is not a beach for little children, even my y year old had a hard time. I enjoyed how the water was calm and deep enough to swim in past the break. Also how clear the water was and you could actually swim without kicking rocks. We will definitely return without the kids to snorkel more and take pictures.

Very busy beach park, snorkeling is good if you are lucky enough to find parking. It's easier to park up the road at Kahe Point Beach Park and walk along the road. Beautiful sights and lots of colorful fish. Bring an underwater camera for the memories!
