Visited this awesome museum on a Saturday, midday. Wasn’t that busy at all which is nice but also kinda disappointing because this museum is amazing! Entry fee is $20 for adults, $10 for Hawaii residents. All children 18 and under are free. Once in, the museum is expansive. So many galleries and wonderful outdoor courts. Galleries fester artwork from all around the world. Just amazing works. You can tell the folks that run and work at this museum really care about cleanliness/presentation. There is a small coffee bar and a full size restaurant. The gift shop is full of all kinds of cool things as well. Living on the island, I can easily see myself getting a membership here because there is just so much to see and I feel like I’ll discover something new with each visit.

The Honolulu Museum of Art is definitely a worthwhile cultural Must See if you are traveling and value great cultural institutions! We saw a phenomenal David Hockney exhibition but even if you are just a lover of beautiful and architectural museums, it’s worth visiting. There are many interior courtyards and a phenomenal restaurant where many of the museum members eat as often as a few times eacb week! And if you are a member of the Walker Museum of Art, they offer free reciprocal admission.

I spent an afternoon here with my daughter last Friday - we could've stayed longer because there's so much to see. The few pics I have obviously don't do the museum justice. Admission is only $20 but you can also sign up for their lowest membership tier for $50 which gives you access for one year so if you're local, you can't beat this. There's also an outdoor/open air cafe with live music on Friday evenings. Also, a coffee bar with a super-friendly barista. I'm definitely planning to visit again while it's still an easy walk away!

My first visit. Spend 3 hours there. Everything was so beautiful. Lovely buildings and courtyards. There are a lot of rooms with different periods of art and styles. Very educational.

Honestly, this museum seems like a hidden gem. Extremely surprised that there weren’t more people crowding into this place. I suppose they have occupancy limits. However, you won’t be disappointed once you step through. The beauty of the gardens and neutral space was nice. Also was surprised to see Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Georgia O’Keeffe(completely surprised to see her Hawaiian prints, no clue she did them in 1939). They also have a nice cafe, restaurant, and great gift shop. Only wish I had more room to take more gifts back.

Such a beautiful and pretty area. The museum was so amazing and the art itself was beautiful too. For context: I went in May with my boyfriend so this review is a bit old. We spent the WHOLE day here. It was such a relaxing beautiful place. The cafe was so cute and had jazz playing as we took a quick break. There was so much to see and do. I love love love the courtyards and would love to go back to take photos there again. I don’t know when I can go to Hawaii again, but when I do, I’d hit up this museum again. So quiet and relaxing and beautiful. I love this museum. The only thing I would say I don’t like about it is how far it was and how long we had to walk/Uber there. For context, my boyfriend and I were staying at the Waikiki area.

A massive, beautiful museum with a diverse offering of art to see. I particularly enjoyed the contemporary art exhibit and the Impressionist works. The cafes and museum shop are also lovely. Bring a camera and give yourself a couple hours to walk around the massive galleries!

This was a great museum. I am not a big art museum kinda guy but for the price well worth it. The courtyards were fantastic. The different cultures that are represented plus the mix of old art history and the newer folks great contrast. The courtyards are calm peaceful places to Be that add to the museums ambience. It is also one of the attractions that’s open until 9 pm thus making it a great closing attraction. If you want to do a specific attraction like the Islamic arts you have to get that in advance but the regular museum tickets can be bought at the door. There is a nice cafe, gift shop, and live music at times

There is a lot of interesting pieces to look at there. I love how there is art from every part of the world. I even found my country (Ivory Cost, West Africa) and I was nicely surprised. Got the tickets in advance but this activity seems to be lowkey compared to others. At least when I looked at the tickets online the day before. They weren't all booked up unlike some other activities. The gift shop is incredibly expensive.

Wow this museum really impressed me! The little courtyards are all charming and there are so many great exhibits and wonderful artists- a mix of old and new. I had a great coffee after at their coffee bar and sat for awhile in the palm courtyard. Highly recommend spending an afternoon here!

Beautiful open concept allows sunlight to bask the ~4 courtyards. $20 admission fee, must hold bag on shoulder or in front of you to avoid bumping into sculptures, museum closes early so come early as I didn't get to see everything. The paintings are stunning and you'll learn a lot about Kamehameha. My favorite paintings are attached.

This museum is fantastic. It’s $20/adult $10/kids and active duty military, veterans and their parties are admitted for free during the summer. The grounds are well laid out and the exhibits are fantastic. So much history within these old walls. Pieces of art on display from around the world even a few BC times and one particular piece that might be one of the only surviving full size pieces of art left in the world. I was planning on paying the $20 to enter and once I asked about military I received the discount… having said that. I would have gladly paid the $20 for the exhibit. It’s phenomenal!!

I have been to Honolulu twice and I had a great first experience in 2019 and had to come back with my partner… a lover of art :) It did not disappoint! We did try once to come here and it was closed. I am sure I messed up the hours but we had some difficulties finding parking. It was there but it was surrounded by homeless.. covid was definitely rough to this area as things were very changed since 2019. So when we came back we took an Uber. The museum has several different rooms that are well organized. We had a lot of fun interacting to friendly employees as well. Thanks! Also, this was included on our go-city passes… we had a blast on this trip and those passes were invaluable

It was interesting to see the various art pieces and styles from different countries. The galleries were kind of like a maze so I did get lost but, to be fair, I didn't take a nap with me. I thought it was more fun without it. The Hawaii gallery is definitely something that has to be seen of you're planning to visit here.

Free art museum!!! We thought you had to pay a fee of $20 but when we asked the front desk said it's free. The museum is relatively small but in my opinion worth a visit. I really enjoyed it and if you're already in the area might as well go check it out!

I've loved this museum since I was a young girl, and it still holds up. An excellent collection that highlights Hawaii's place as a cultural crossroads for the Americas, Pacific Islands and Asia as well as sea exploration and colonialism more broadly. Visited 08/2021, during COVID, and the museum was doing a great job with safety procedures. Signs throughout requesting no more than 10 people in each gallery.

I went to see special exhibit of a Japanese photographer Ai Iwane during Hawaii Triennial 2022. Wow, I was so impressed her photos of Bon Dance. Energy and excitement of Bon Dance were excellently expressed through her photos. I was also impressed with variety of arts displayed here at this HOMA. It was such a wonderful experience to see great collections of different cultures and artists of all ages. Especially I was very impressed with exhibition of Buddhism. I loved this museum and probably will come back.

Hidden gem for those who loves art, not just in general but also local Hawaiian arts. Mostly, Asian art pieces are there but you can see rare collections such as Islamic, Souther Asian pieces as well. Enjoying beautiful nature is probably the main purpose visiting Hawaii but it is worth to spend some time(1 or 2hrs) at this place.

LOVE HoMA! Could definitely spend a whole day here exploring the plethora of exhibits. I personally enjoy spending time amongst the copious sitting areas that the establishment provides in a multitude of beautiful courtyards (I appreciate how open these are). Lovely space to read/write. It has never been too busy during my couple of visits to the museum.

As a Londoner, expensive entry, but we found out they have affiliates w few hotels so unexpectedly, we got in for free. The main cafe closed a lot earlier than we thought (2p sharp), but there was a small cafe with delicious homemade cookies. I'm not sure why the lady made my hot water for tea cold when not asked :/ Was highly disappointed to see the main exhibition was our very own David Hockney, but we enjoyed the Hawaiian curated exhibition. Don't miss all the courtyards, very peaceful (on non-free days otherwise crawling w children from memory). I liked the library too. Wonderful to see some originals of Masters, eg did not expect to see the Maui O'Keefes, Picasso, Matisse, Delaunay, etc. Shame to see homeless tents right in front of the museum, but it looks like Honolulu generally has a homeless problem. Did not expect to see The Lei Maker so a wonderful surprise. Was not offered to use the free locker but there is one as it looks like there is no cloakroom. Recommended.

Wonderful place. We didn't think we would spend much time as the building doesn't look very big from the outside, but once we got in and started looking at the magnificent pieces of art, we were very surprised. Highly recommend.

The building here is immense, the art spectacular and from all over the world, much of which generously donated by well to do patrons past and present. There is an original van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and Pissarro, and the Indian/Indonesian collection is astonishing.

Lots of artworks are displayed in this Japanese styled architecture. One piece of originally creative artworks is a corridor made of fragrant dried flowers . . . Amazing and very impressive!

Amazing museum; a perfect way to spend the afternoon. I took my two small children And they loved it. The Asian Art Collection is extremely impressive. The staff is very kind. I plan on going back.

It was pretty okay. The architecture of the building itself is rather lackluster. For a cultural experience of seeing art throughout the ages, it's pretty cool. I saw work older than Jesus himself. However, if you want stunning art that impresses and inspires, it's alright. The Cafe serves good food for a semi-resonable price.

Tip: Get tickets ahead of time. Otherwise, get tickets in person then leave for lunch or visit Iolani Palace. There are a few restaurants nearby such as YoguStory or an ice cream place called Wing Ice Cream Parlor. If you have kids or if you're a Disney fan like me, bring them to the Polynesian exhibit because there's a Stitch (from Lilo & Stitch) in there :) Thoughts: Great museum! It's just the right size and comfortable to walk around. All the exhibitions surround a courthouse so you're always under shade. When we arrived, there was an hour of wait so we just got the tickets and grabbed lunch. The Polynesian exhibit and the temporary exhibits were our favorites. We saw a cafe/restaurant in the museum too so if you can sit down and grab something to eat or drink.

A decent collection of artists from around the world with a splash of local Hawaiian culture here and there. A mixture of modern and ancient

I stayed at Waikiki for a week, and this is definitely a highlight of my trip. It has a mix of old and modern arts and sculpture, indoor and outdoor layout makes it a very comfortable visiting experience since you get to see the nature beauty and not getting fatigue of all the indoor arts. I frequently visit San Francisco MOMA, and I would get exhaust after seeing so much arts indoor, but not here. It is a really special modern art museum, and I think the nature help you understand the meaning of life, art better. Also a bonus point, since it is not on people's hawaii to-do list, it is not crowded at all.

I was very impressed by HOMA. Not only were the exhibits beautiful and intriguing, but every aspect of the museum including the building itself was beautiful. The place made you feel like you were transported into another place. Could spend hours here looking at the different exhibits they offer. They also offer different activities whether with family, as a couple, or on your own to enjoy what HOMA had to offer will definitely visit again!

Beautiful Museum! Although a few exhibits were under construction, I thoroughly spent a lot of time here. The museum staff was very kind and chill, the coffee bar was great place to relax. A little confusing to navigate for new guests, it is easy to miss a few exhibits, so study the map before you leave!!

We took a tour with a friendly and knowledgeable guide focusing on religious art from around the world. Then wandered from gallery to gallery admiring the art. We were completely pleased with the experience as you will be when you visit.

Beautiful place to go to learn and see Polynesian and Asian art, culture and history. The way the exhibits are set up is wonderful. There is also this cute cafe in the middle of the museum courtyard if you need to take a break

Nice place to visit some local and international art. Good location, parking a bit tough, following COVID-19 protocols, family friendly, staff was helpful. Lots of walking and areas to sit and enjoy.
