A Hawaiian local recommended me this restaurant and I’m so glad I decided to give it a try. Super good food and drinks! The ambiance is perfect for families, couples, or friends gathering! Highly recommend.

Food is always good and innovative at ZIGU. We went for a lunch. Temperature check at the check in, distancing and disinfecting are the things nowadays. It depends on the staff how strict they want to ensure the safety of themselves and others. I didn’t get temp checked while others got tested. The tables were not effectively cleaned after the other guests. The few squirts of disinfectant spray went over to the one table but 2 other tables weren’t throughly cleaned. And it took few seconds for the server to clean the table. We would feel much better watching if it was cleaned better. (It shows how our table was cleaned..) I would give better star rating but I am hoping to get the attention so they would pay more attention to how important to protect everyone including their own staff. Food was great otherwise.

Very tasty food. Food portions are small, so don't expect to get full, but expect getting your palate elevated.

Absolutely the best meal I had in Honolulu. The potato salad was so delicious. Loved the local veggie tempura and the grilled pork. Great service as well.

Special event tonight but I still love this place. Located in Waikiki off the beaten path on Seaside. I love the Abalone here. It’s so fresh and it has just the right crunch. They have Hamachi Kama but this does run out quite often, so check with the server first. Sushi bar is also great, you can sit at the bar or order from the table. Decent Sake list as well but they have a full bar to your liking.

Izakaya Eats Take Two🇯🇵 Zigu was our second izakaya on our trip and, admittedly, the super convenient location in Waikiki combined with solid reviews were the main draw Zigu is known for their soba noodles and they have several varieties alongside a great izakaya selection We liked all our choices, including some great specials, but really loved the soba and ordered multiple times . We make soba at home often but the feedback is this one is better! The only miss was the French fries which were reheated and stale 📷 Washu-gyu Nigiri $24 / Sauteed Kona Abalone $24 / Spicy Chilled Soba $24 / Chilled Soba Noodle $11 / Island Sake Brewery Junmai Daiginjo $58 / French Fries $8 📍Zigu (Waikiki, HI)

Wow! This isn’t your typical Japanese sushi restaurant by any stretch. If you’re in Waikiki, do yourself a favor and don’t miss ZIGU. Delicious, authentic, original offerings. The service (David P.) was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. And the pricing is reasonable for the fresh and local provisions on the menu. The mochiko fried chicken is NOT to be missed, and the complementary tea at the conclusion of the meal was a nice touch.

(Translated by Google) I brought a friend from Japan. The white asparagus tempura is very popular, and children are packed. Popular kale udon is still delicious. It's a little overpriced. Waikiki price. They do validation at Hyatt hotel. Sep 2019 I felt it was delicious. I feel that the amount is also increasing. A little high image, one dish is very small, it feels like a tavern snack, and may be good for those who want to drink. The macadamia nuts were delicious. The shop is always dark and not visible. Atmosphere is a mix between corner bar and nice restaurant, great feel. Service was too notch. I had a lemon sour, so good and strong! Also had the tuna cutlet plate with kale, the dressing on the kale is the star! Definitely will be going back to try more items.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! It was my first time there, I ordered 4 dishes for my fiance and me. And we loveeeeee everything. It’s the next level of Japanese Cuisine. Their food is super rich, flavorful, and delicious. Especially I haven’t tried any similar. That’s why this place makes me “wow” a lot. Here is what we order: • Hawaiian Tuna Spicy Roll • The Hawaiian Tuna Cutlet (must-try) • ZIGU Roll • Spicy Chilled Soba

This place is absolutely delicious! Love the Ahi fillet and the yellow sauce that goes with it! I never know kale can taste so good! The spicy salmon roll is also very flavorful. The pineapple & watermelon Sake Sangria is very refreshing on a hot day! Not cheap but very worth it! I went a second time during my stay and really enjoy all the food! The poke bowl is very refreshing, and the scallop nigiri is very tasty. I had the Ahi cutlets again and really enjoy it. I will miss this place!

Everything tastes really delicious. The otoro sushi is worth the price, the spiced chilled soba is so refreshing and flavorful, and the their version of haupia is great for a dessert. The sake flights are a great complement to the meals. One of the best meals in Honolulu!

The fishes are super fresh but pricy as well. Service was good but the place is a bit crowded. Highly recommend the scallop sushi - sweet and fresh. The edamame tastes really good but be cautious of the spiciness 😂

We had an excellent time here! The service and food were all excellent. I personally had the Spicy Salmon Roll and it was delicious. I ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll and it took a little over 30 minutes to come out, but the host was nice enough to still serve it and take it off the bill for us, which I really appreciated. We also had two birthdays which were well accommodated for, which was fantastic. We would definitely come back if given the chance!

We just had a fantastic meal at Zigu. The happy hour specials (4-6pm) are a good deal - the smoked potato salad, watercress and tofu salad and tempura being particularly tasty. Then we jumped to the abalone, natto tuna poke and sashimi platter - all of which were delicious! The food was fresh and tasty, with prices better than some other honolulu restaurants we ate at. And to cap it off, we had hospitable service - and our server even chased us down the street when he realized that we had left our ball caps behind! If you haven't been yet, we recommend that you try Zigu!

Great place for causal japanese cuisine in Honolulu. They have discounts for happy hour before 6, make the meal even more worth it.

Everything about this place was perfect, staring with the service and friendly staff and ending with the amazing and unique taste of the each dish. It's definitely not just another place. It feels like each dish is carefully designed, the fish was fresh and only draw back were the drinks, both cocktails came out mediocre+ but not more that's that also the portions are closer to a chef's restaurant in size, night not be enough if you're really hungry, however the happy hour deals on food are pretty great.

Wow, great service and food. Got to hit this place on an off hour cause it gets busy. You are in Wiakiki though. Have to park in a parking garage or on street if so lucky to get. I sat at the bar and enjoyed Happy hour. Great pupus and draft beer. All the servers were so cool too.

  • 5/5 Mallory M. 2 years ago on Google
Sat at the bar and Brandon was great. I really liked the drinks. They were made with fresh ingredients and not overly sweet. The spicy cold soba was very flavorful and a variety of textures but not really spicy. I asked for extra spicy oil and it was really good. The cucumber was really fresh and perfectly seasoned. Will be back!

We were so lucky that we could get in without reservation. Food looks so fresh and yummy. Watercress and tofu salad was delicious. I wish they cut watercress a little small like bite size. But otherwise everything was great.

This reminds me of a typical Izakaya (pub) in Japan. The atmosphere was pleasant, service was exceptionally fast, and the food was incredible. My wife and I arrived during happy hour (4-6PM) where they had discounts on some appetizers and drinks. We shared the spicy edamame appetizer which was phenomenal. I had the Honolulu Beerworks Cocoweizen - I love typical Hefeweizens and this was both unique and delicious. I got the chilled soba noodle and my wife got the vegetarian Taro maki roll. It was a delightful first honeymoon meal and I would absolutely come back here!

Decided to do a staycation with my friend. We found Zigu and what a gem! The draft beer was so fresh and the food was delicious. We tried the edamame, fresh tofu salad, takoyaki, and spicy cold soba. There was just enough spice, allowing for the taste of the soba to come out. We didn't have reservations but were lucky enough to sit within 10 minutes. The staff were wonderful-- friendly and quick! We'll definitely be back!!

This is the best local Hawaiian Japanese restaurant you will find in all of Hawaii. Everything was seriously outta bounds excellent. The Natto Ahi Poke was seriously good, but the Natto has a unique flavor that not everyone will like, do ask for it on the side. Neighborhood Parking is tough, so park at the mall and walk over.

LOVED Zigu. I live in NYC with a lot of Japanese food options and none of it (Tempura, Sushi, the side dishes) are remotely as good as Zigu. The ambiance is wonderful. It’s charming, just off the touristy drag so it’s quiet, and service is impeccable. You really feel as though you are in Kyoto! We had the Watercress salad, Tofu, Veggie Tempura, Sushi (it was perfection- the quality of the fish was outstanding), Sake and a few other dishes. All were excellent. I thought the prices were to be expected and very fair especially considering the quality of the ingredients (both the fish and produce). The best part is, this place as a neighborhood feel. Like it’s a hidden gem. There is a great back patio with expanded space. They also take reservations!

This was a nice little place near our vacation rental. They had someone stand outside and invite us in to enjoy happy hour. We went and had our dinner there. The restaurant is very trendy and we appreciated the "farm to table" freshness, but the flavors were a little bland and needed more. It was the usual cost expected of a Waikiki eatery - even though we had a coupon from the "Best of Oahu" book. We were 2 adults and 2 kids, and with the coupon it was $85 (but we were still hungry). We were seated near the door where people smoked so that also contributed to making the meal less enjoyable. We didn't like the food enough to go back but it wasn't bad - I wish I could give it 3.5 stars.

Zigu has been a savior during this quarantine. Their lunch specials are delicious and their fish is so fresh. Pictured below is my go to order which is their salmon poke bowl lunch special. $12 for fresh chunks of salmon with tobiko, tempura flakes, green onions and seaweed over a well seasoned bed of sushi rice. Their miso soup is made with actual kombu and bonito which you can taste. I also love ordering their sushi rolls and am looking forward to trying some of their beef dishes. Their hours aren't currently reflected in Google, they are open much earlier than is shown. Please support this local restaurant if you can and tip them generously as they are staying open for us while many restaurants had to close. Thank you Zigu!

Looks can be deceiving when driving by this restaurant. Hubby and I decided to dine at Zigu based on reviews and was stunned on how big the restaurant is! We ate at Zigu on Saturday night and i'm pretty sure i've recommended it to like 10 people already . First of all, their safety protocols are 10 / 10. They thermometer check you and sanitize your hands upon entry (more than our hotel did!) before escorting you to your table where once seated you can remove your masks. We had a 730pm reservation which is pushing it with a 1.5 year old and a 5 year old who have been at the beach all day , however as soon as they saw that we had kids, they were quick to take our orders and get the kids food out which i appreciate sooo much! Everything we ordered was divine and the portions were really good size. Wait staff was on it and the atmosphere reminds me of europe or like a cute stylish cafe in Bali which we don't have a lot of here in Hawaii. 100 percent will be back!

Oh my Lord!! Sooo yum. A hidden gem off the busy streets of Hawaii, away from the big chains and the duke et al. Loved every dish especially the miso salmon and fried chicken. Our waiter Corey was amazing too. Will be dreaming of this meal for a long time!

So much care and thought are put in to the food at this establishment. They even serve Mamaki (valuable Hawaii tea) instead of just standard ice water. Outdoor ambience in the day is great, I'm excited to go there for dinner. Prices are reasonable and parking is validated across the street at Hyatt Centric.

  • 4/5 Bobby Q. 4 years ago on Google
Deducting one star for disengaged service. Probably we went in right before the lunch break for them, but still, not a good excuse to not providing the service at this caliber. Overall, we felt rushed and I didn't finish most of my foods. In terms of the foods, I liked the kale noodle with pickle, okra, nadou and seaweed. It's a refreshing dish after eating several days of heavier meals. Chirashi is good for it's presentation, but nothing too out of ordinary from my experience.

  • 4/5 Perks A. 4 years ago on Google
I am not sure this restaurant has reached its full potential, but appears to be on a good trajectory. The dining area has ambience with courtyard like seating as well as bar seating inside. Service was alittle uneven because different staff dropped by but I did not really have anyone taking care of me. I had the pork dish which was good as was the price reasonable, but it did not fall in the fine dining category. The dish was infused with honey but the overall taste was not very nuanced - it tasted like a barbecue rib with some added sugar. However, Waikiki is somewhat of a food desert and this is a welcomed addition.

First thing first- I absolutely love the warm and inviting atmosphere and tones of this restaurant. For the food, though I’m most definitely not a fish fanatic, was fresh and absolutely flavorful. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful in giving recs; I especially enjoyed the handmade kale udon, topped with dried kale and paired with peanut sauce. All in all, loved the food, service, portions, and atmosphere!

  • 5/5 makiko s. 5 years ago on Google
Japanese cooking served with Hawaiian ingredients. Everything was fresh and tasty. I enjoyed the unique coupling of ingredients that you don't come across in Japan, such as kale x udon (noodles). And my favorite is the poke sushi! Staffs were friendly. I am looking forward to go back there again!

Sophisticated Japanese Izakaya (small plates) food inspired by local Hawaiian ingredients. Great drink list. Ginger beer! 🍅 beer! Amazing food. Start with the burdock or the pickled onion to cleanse your palate. Add on great appetizers including many vegan dishes. End with satisfying fish or meat creations. Sake selection equally impressive. Relaxed service in front of a hectic yet well choreographed open kitchen. Hip servers. My new favorite in Waikiki...

Zigu is fantastic. The atmosphere is really nice; the restaurant is located in the heart of Waikiki inside of a quaint little building with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor dining area is in a beautiful courtyard. The dishes feature local, farm-to-table ingredients and are a perfect blend of authentic Japanese tradition and sophisticated fusion. The drink menu is also great with an impressive selection of sake and wine.

If Japan and Hawai'i had a baby they'd name it Zigu. Relaxed and hip atmosphere. Staff are very friendly. Ingredients locally sourced and the food is GOOD. I live around the corner and I have to stop myself from eating here all the time. Love this place.
