I arrived yesterday evening but I tried to search where the place was near me and still open. I found this restaurant and read the review, it seemed pretty good one. The food was very good and fresh sushi. Service was very good too! even they placed the wrong order, I didn’t mind and they were very polite and very nice. Highly recommended!!

The food was absolutely delicious! It was pricey but as others have said, the food is authentic, customer service excellent, and worth the money. If you are looking for a quaint little corner restaurant that serves traditional, high quality Japanese food, Yohei is the place!

Such a charming restaurant! It’s very authentic and reasonably priced with good service. We went twice and both times we saw most people order their complete/set meals. We opted for nigiri sushi, appetizers and side dishes. We really liked their nigiri sushi as the fish was fresh and the rice wasn’t too densely packed. We would recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys more authentic sushi but not for those who like sushi rolls, especially westernized sushi rolls.

Always good japanese food. Been to Yohei many times and have not had a bad meal. I had the Kona Kampachi this last time which had the fish prepared as sashimi, nigiri sushi, and the belly fried. They have table service and a sushi bar.

(Translated by Google) Japanese restaurant near Dillingham Costco, not very large but of quality. Taste refreshing. (Original) 딜링햄 코스트코 근처의 일식당, 아주 크지는 않지만 퀄티 있음. 맛 깔끔함.

Went for a 7pm reservation, the service was amazing and the waitresses were very attentive but not overbearingly so. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. The food was delicious and I would recommend it to anyone looking for good sushi and Japanese cuisine. There also are bathrooms if you’re too shy to ask, they are to the left through the curtains and they have bidets 🫡.

I live in a landlocked state. And I thought I've had pretty good sushi. But this place is as authentic as you can get without traveling to the country of Japan itself. Generous cuts of fish. All super fresh, and an aesthetic that is old world Japan. You don't mind sushi being served in a more traditional way, this restaurant is for you. Highly recommended.

Tucked away in the back corner of a strip mall in the semi-industrial flatlands of Kalihi, this gloriously charming, nostalgia-inspiring Japanese restaurant is worth a visit, if you haven't been there before. Yohei is somehow both a place everyone has heard of, but also a place that feels like your little secret when you visit... especially when the staff starts to recognize you as a repeat customer. My dad is, and they make him feel like a VIP. The sushi, and the sushi bar, are the star of the show. And you can't go wrong ordering anything off the sushi menu. But its the teishoku dinners and special combinations that keep me coming back. First timers should just go for the Sushi Zen combination, which is basically a sampling of all the best items available that day, depending on what fish and other ingredients were available. One thing that you don't read about are the desserts, which are also special. I will admit, not knowing what I'm doing, some desserts have not been to my tastes. But I've never seen them anywhere else, and am totally willing to risk a couple of "not for me" items to find the occasional winner.

Excitingly authentic sushi and sashimi gem tucked away in a small strip mall. I've been to a lot of Japanese places on Oahu, and few have had the qualities that I remember from years of living in Japan. The staff greeted me with warm smiles and took me to a spot at the sushi bar. The menu is sparse on details and caters to a Japanese crowd that knows what they want, which is fine by me. I had the sashimi and tempura platter and it was the freshest I've had yet. The clientele was friendly and clearly had established a sense of community around this spot. Fun conversations bounced between new and old guests as well as the sushi chefs. Wonderful experience, this is where I will tell my friends to get Japanese food while here in Oahu. ありがとうございました

Never had a bad meal here. Sushi is always good with interesting choices, and they have a handful of "sets" that can satisfy a variety of palates. If you come at peak hours, expect to wait.

My favorite Japanese restaurant In Hawaii! The complete dinners are great with lots of small Japanese side dishes to try. The staff is also always very kind even when the resturaunt is packed.❤

My partner spoilt me with dinner here. Highly recommend the buttermilk fish complete dinner box - you won't be disappointed. We also shared an ahi belly sushi which just melted in our mouths. The customer service was also great and attentive. Overall, it made for an enjoyable night out.

Nice moderate price Japanese sushi restaurant in Dillingham area of town. Sushi, sashimi and tempura that we had were pretty good. There is a sushi counter option along with regular table seatings. However, the tables are really close together which means not so much personal space Would recommend.

Hours should be adjusted if you can't be open when you say you are.

  • 3/5 Alison M. 2 years ago on Google
I gave it 3-stars because the ahi on the sushi was so small, I was shocked. I've never seen such a tiny slice of ahi on sushi before. I guess ahi prices have sky-rocketed, but maybe they should adjust the prices, maybe. The shrimp tempura was good, but I didn't care for the rest of the tempura in the seafood tempura teishoku. The ahi belly nuggets were tasty. The California inside out sushi roll was good and had real crab in it. The flavors were very light, perhaps catering to the older generations, but I guess it's healthier, lol. Not sure if I will return...

Great food and service. Our first visit, ordered the Butterfish Misoyaki, the Hamachi Sashimi, and the soba noodle tempura combination all good. Returning visit ordered the Tempura and Udon and the Sashimi Tataki and of course the Butterfish Misoyaki.

Was with a party of 4 for lunch. Restaurant was quite crowded-busy during lunch. We were promptly greeted and seated but it took about 15 minutes before someone came to take our order. Once the food arrived there were no complaints here. All 4 of us ordered various teishoku meals and we all left full and satisfied with the quality & quantity of food. It was about $27-35 per person. I'll be back for sure.

The sweet shrimp was pretty awesome. When it's just made and served, better eat it right away, it's crispy and tastes the best.

Very nice place with Japanese vibe and very friendly staff!!! Food is delicious. Portions are big. If you want to feel yourself like in Japan you have to visit it. Located near the fishing pier but don’t pay attention to the area. It is worth it.

Wow! Let the girls know its your birthday. Free dessert, dance and song. What a nice surprise. The unagi bento was fatty and chewy. The sauce is the star of the show. Sushi zen was meh but the seafood tempura set made up for it. Yes, coming again for birthday.

  • 3/5 Rock J. 10 months ago on Google
Food was ok for the tempura sets. There were others that were better. Sushi was higher priced with very few roll options. Very quick service to order and refill the lovely green tea

Authentic place, we were confused by the menu as it is not the typical menu you see elsewhere in the US. But the waiteress and one of the Sushi chefs were very nice in explaining things to us.

The place is small and comfy. The employees have the Japanese spirit, respect, and manners that one expects of their culture. The food is on the high end but well worth the cost. Great place to bring a date.

Good sushi but as a non-japanese speaker the menu was a bit daunting. I would say that our meal was 10-15% more expensive than I'd expected but that's not really a complaint just an observation.

Authentic Japanese cuisine. I haven't had some of the dishes/flavors since I lived in Okinawa. Price is fair considering the quality of food you're getting. Definitely an "old skool" traditional Japanese vibe. Will be back to try more dishes for sure.

I had a bit of a hard time understanding their menu and it was me, because I'm not Japanese and I don't know what some of the dishes were so I had to use Google and Yelp to help me order and it seemed that if I asked questions about the menu items the staff wasn't helpful either, but the food was good.

The service was good, and the menu had a large variety. Unfortunately, the sushi was just not that great. It was fine, but both the yellowtail and tuna sashimi were not flavorful enough to justify their prices. It's good, but there are better options out there.

  • 4/5 Dorothy W. 4 years ago on Google
A hidden gem with authentic Japanese cruise in a local strip small. I ordered the Sushi Zen (traditional Japanese dinner set with assorted sushi, small plates, miso soup, and cold udon). Their price range is $$ to $$$ but it's worth the money.
