(Translated by Google) A museum with a roof over my head, but I missed a cigarette machine very much. The burgers were very mushy and there were semi-juicy bugs. Incredibly furry drill heads were unfortunately not to be seen. Banana salad with onions!

(Translated by Google) Too much red cabbage and the room temperature was 2.5 ° C too warm for me. I'm almost COLAbierT. But a tip colabier is not good. Drink the red house pine cone rather. It's better than you think. But when we come back to the topic. I like animals, but unfortunately there were no animals. Pity! The building was too small, the exhibits hardly fit in. Too tight for my mind. Potato salad! Kartoffelsalat!

(Translated by Google) Zeitgeist architecture that already looks totally old-fashioned. Madonna built over in the rubble and thus destroyed. Who comes up with an idea like this - and who then orders something like that ?! Hopefully the chapel will be uncovered at some point - when this building here has finally proven its uselessness.

Beautifully designed museum. The only thing that I found disturbing is that guards kept following you everywhere. Kinda uncomfortable if you want to take pictures or enjoy your visit.

Amazing museum, well worth a visit, I especially found the excavations on the ground floor really nicely presented and set up for visitors. There are several floors, so much to see , also nice to see the reading room they have set apart as the guidebook is a very extensive read. Staff very helpful & friendly at reception.

(Translated by Google) The Kolumba is an extraordinary museum in an extraordinary building. I visited it for the first time for the performance of "Dark Red" by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker (ends on 09/20/2020). That was the fantastic staging of an overall concept through the whole house. Definitely worth a visit and I'll be back!

(Translated by Google) An architecturally interesting building, but that's about it. The exhibits are poor, in some cases poorly explained and not exactly combined in an accessible manner. From a museum education point of view there is still room for improvement!

One of the best architecture buildings in Europe. Amazing atmosphere. The simplicity, but at the same time complex concept that use Peter Zumthor make you feel like you are in a sacred place.

Exceptional architecture and setting for this niche museum. It has a real character, range and vision, but you will need the English show guide unless your German can cope with the artworld and historic essays. Google translate had a hard time! The interior is minimal but luscious, and the excavated/preserved church foundations are incredible and really well presented. The exhibition was a mix of photography, video, post-modern exploration and ancient manuscripts and diptychs. This is one of my favourite exhibition spaces.

the building itself is a fascinating hybrid of medieval church and modern building. this accurately reflects the nature of the art inside, both centuries old religious art and modern art appearing alongside each other. this makes for a very unique and evocative visiting experience.

(Translated by Google) A fantastic place. Very impressive building. The architect has managed to create a modern but timeless frame for old and new things. A little exhausting, I found that the exhibits had no explanatory label and the given Broschürchen not always slightly + synchronously supported. However, visually very appealing and successful. A special place! (Original) Ein phantastischer Ort.

I went to Cologne as I found flight tickets for £55 return and it was a bargain! The downside of it was it was there and back in under 20 hours so packed our running shoes. This was in the afternoon and the building itself was interesting. Entry was around €10 and was spread across three floor. I think my friend and I were there for about and hour and half. Thought provoking to say the least and definitely worth a visit.

The Roman archaeological area is amazing. The displays in the rest if the museum compare the old with the new. Very nice guide to read along with. Very organized museum. I have been to this museum twice, the second visit was better than the first. Simply because I saw it differently and appreciated it even more.

(Translated by Google) Great museum. I can only recommend it to everyone. Each exhibition is carefully curated and you can tell in each room how much love and enthusiasm went into the design, hanging and arrangement. Here, they really know how to make full use of the building, which is already architecturally great, in order to ideally stage each exhibit. Always worth a visit!

Beautifully designed museum and very interesting exhibit, but absolutely infuriating method of getting information about the pieces. Half the pieces only have a number. The other half have nothing at all. Where they exist, the numbers aren’t in order. You then have to look at a 163-page(!) PDF that goes room by room telling you what each piece is. Except in the book the numbers are in order, and the book also has many pieces that are nowhere to be found in the exhibit. Non-numbered pieces are described too, you’re just supposed to engage in a scavenger hunt to figure out what the text is referring to. Please, just add brief text next to each piece!

Kolumba is art museum in Köln, it stands where once was a Gothic church which was destroyed during the second World War. Designed by Architect Peter Zumthor, a Pritzker Prize winner. This is a must visit for art and architecture lovers.!

Stunning museum building with a collection that is more exciting than expected. The Kolumba museum is designed by Peter Zumthor, meaning it’s an excellent example of minimal contemporary architecture. The main attraction in that regard is the excavation room on the ground floor, where an indoor/outdoor space allows you to view excavations of churches and buildings dating back to Roman Cologne. The rest of the museum houses contemptuous art and christian art artifacts, which are curated together in interesting combinations. Well worth a visit.

This was a great museum and I was surprised with the enclosed Roman remains with an excellent viewing platform with that lovely rose wood furnishing. I also enjoyed the floors above and would love to come back. Be Careful when you come in, I hurt myself on the door handles that come out a lot with sharp edges because I was saying hi to the greeter/security guard.

Strangely gorgeous, this museum has the former Diocese collection and recent acquisitions. Apparently, the display changes year to year. The theme when I was there was the "Alphabet of Art". There is no chronology, just a succession of interesting spaces (some with astoundingly high ceilings) with various pieces of art scattered about. Apparently, there is a quartet (guitar, cello, accordion, and singer) that plays there every Friday that made the experience particularly memorable. The highlight for me is the splendid Madonna with Child by Köln master Stefan Lochner from the 1450s. It is worth the trip and admission just for this moving and beautiful masterpiece.

Nice museum, had an interesting exposition on "art vocabulary". The guidebook included a glossary of art terms with explanations and which rooms had items that demonstrated that term. The cost was also low and it was not crowded.

Unique museum, fascinating architecture. The chapel is a work of art in itself, with a modern and elegant view on the pious spirit, wonderfully integrated in the cultural complex of Kolumba. The Alphabet of Art exhibition was exhilarating and complex. I wish the brochure on the works on display were also available in other languages in addition to German.

Beautiful exhibits and treasures, what kinda gets me off the mood is that the museum is mixed between the relycs and modern art, which I'm not that into, but it's just my opinion, maybe you like both parts, probably my favourite part are the ruins, gorgeous. Overall really good and well kept, there is also a locker room where you need to leave your bags, you also get a small book that tells you all the exhibits and it's story

The ruins attracted us, but the rest... Take a torch and magnifying glass, if you want to see much and read descriptions of the items in the microscopical booklet you receiving there - hardly any other explanation you could find. The only bright place is staircase, most of exponates are in the darkness

  • 4/5 Amy H. 4 years ago on Google
Fascinating objects set out beautifully in a stunning building. Staff were friendly and helpful. What I didn't like so much was that there are no labels on any exhibits. Visitors are given a book with details about the contents of each room, but I found this impractical (especially since several rooms are deliberately quite dark) and distracting from the flow of the visit.

An architectural masterpiece. Such a beautifully crafted building, Zumthor and his firm have done a fantastic job in conserving the history of the site and the previous buildings. A series of well considered spaces and details provide the artwork shown here with a subtle yet scenic environment. The best bit however is the open chapel, definitely worth walking through.

The building itself deserves 6 stars. Absolutely an amazing architecture exploring experience. Don't forget to visit the catacombs and walk around to visit the chapel! The collection includes an amazing Stefan Lochner painting. However, the presentation inside is unclear with maps in a free guide book and numbers that are missing or out of order. The descriptions are very academic - beyond comprehension for your average visitor.

A unique museum with the modern side by side with the ancient. Many beautiful artifacts were exhumed in Cologne, some from the first century, and are exhibited with thoughtful (and thought-provoking) modern pieces. Beautiful architecture, helpful staff. Highly recommended.

An clever juxtaposition of old and new, ancient and modern. The art can be quite odd but the building is magnificent.

Impressive museum and architecture project from the pritzker awarded architect Peter zumthor, it needs a visit and even if you don’t want to see the exposition you can still have a glimps of the archeological rests

A wonderful museum in which the unique architecture as well as the silence let you appreciate each exhibit. A really peacefull experience. The exhibitions are also quite unique, mixing contemporary arts with historic pieces. I would suggest to anyone. The price is clearly worth the hour/hour and a half you will spend there!

Exhibition almost as original as an architectural design. Hands down it's one of the best museums in the city of Cologne.

My favorite museum in Cologne - quiet, peaceful, breathtaking. Go by yourself even! Today there was a live classical music trio playing in one of the rooms - the music echoing through the entire place - magical!

Beautiful museum and you got a cool little book about the exhibition

The person at building entry denied me entry due to my mask. Their claim was that my mask is not "medical grade" which is both absurd and unfounded. Their reasoning was that it looked like a cloth mask. Of course it did, because it's a multi-layer mask with a cloth outer face for comfort. Why a museum would deny entry to patrons for such an immature reason is a mystery, but in any case, as an architecture student who was very excited to see this museum, to say this was dissapointing would be an understatement.

Very nice museum - both art collection and the building are outstanding. Definitely would recommend visiting if you are into art or/and religious relics. Easy to spend 1.5-2 hours here.

A really fascinating museum with an amazing assortment of objects and an accompanying booklet with details on them all. The building itself is a marvel from inside and out, with fantastic use of space. Well worth a visit and expect to take a couple of hours if you have the stamina to see and read everything.

One if my best museum experience in cologne! A very interesting way of preserving the site while also integrating it with a contemporary display. The contemporary collection is also very good! The people are very helpful and the guidebook is well designed. I highly recomend you take at least a couple of hours for the experiene.

So surprising. We thought we were going to the museum but instead stumbled upon the church, and what an extraordinary and visionary piece of architecture it is, uniting the ruined old church with the new chapel and ancient Roman foundations. The pierced bricks let in a mysterious light and many traditional aspects are newly interpreted. Then to the actual museum which is also an extraordinary building, huge clean asymmetric rooms, with carefully placed medieval and modern pieces of art. The modern pieces didnt resonate with me, but i loved the ivory crucifix, carved wooden narratives from the new testament etc, altarpieces. This church and museum should be much better known. Spread the word!.

I didn't expect such a deeper experience visiting this museum. Every piece of art har his own motivation being placed in the journey through the museum. The only less pleasant part was that they didn't have any English booklet, and I had to use Google Lens for translation.
