We had a great visit, wanted to provide some additional information that others might benefit from. We walked from the train station, following a route from Google maps. It took us on a nice wooded trail up to the castle. On the way down we walked on the road and I’m very grateful that we did not take the road on the way up as it was MUCH more steep than the path. The road goes past the tram station which for a fee you can take to the top but the path was great for us. Also, when you look online it says that tickets are cash payment, but we had absolutely no problem using credit card. We walked through and around the castle, everything was very nice. We did go up the tower and it was a super easy walk up a circular stairway. Beautiful views from the top that should not be missed! We got a couple of drinks from the café at the castle, prices were reasonable-We sat on the patio with gorgeous views. They had a pretty big bee problem on the patio, more than I had seen on the rest of my trip. I also saw a lot of bees flying in under one of their eaves, so there must be a nest there.

Pretty cool castle. Unguided tour but still plenty yo see inside including the climb to top. There is a 10-15 min walk up a hill from the parking lot to be aware of.

Hochzeitstag 💕

Overall it is a very nice castle to visit if you are around Cologne. You can take the train and then you can either hike up to the castle or take a special train that takes you up to the castle and at the top of the mountain. The castle itself is not enormous, you can visit in maybe 2 or 3 hours, but the inside is beautiful. There are toilet facilities and a restaurant serving nice food and beverages. The views from the top of the castle are pretty cool and to be honest the architecture was impressive. Would recommend the experience

A beautiful Fairytale castle near Bonn. You can get a Cogwheel train from Königswinter to the castle and the fort above it. It's better to buy tickets for the castle and the Cogwheel train ride together from the station itself since it's around 4 euros cheaper than buying separately. The castle is marvellous both outside and inside. The views from the top tower are magnificent. You can also Trek the whole distance to the top of the castle too. Overall a great experience.

Extremely good preserved with a lot to see and discover. Highly recommend trip. Almost all the informational posts are also in English and an app with a guide in different languages is also available for download. The entrance was just 8 euros and it was worth it. Also, a restaurant is situated in the castle, in the back

Not many people visit, actually have a good amount of time and chance to look more detailed about how rich people live back of time. ☝️😉 and not being rushed to leave to the next .... great walk/ hike around it . Go with a nice sunny but not hot day.

Beautiful place with spectacular views. You can see the castle inside, climb to the observation deck and take a walk around. We climbed on the funicular to the observation deck, which is located above the castle. Then we went down and enjoyed the beautiful views. The climb is very steep, so I recommend going up the funicular.

Beautiful castle! Though it looks older than it really is, this castle dates back from 1882. It has a nice audio tour to tell the story of the property. Nice gardens, and the nicest part, it’s not empty inside, this is really good. Worth the visit! But bear in mind that sometimes the tram is not working so you’ll have to climb up there for 18 minutes (and it can be really exhausting)

Very beautiful castle. Well maintained and lots of fun to visit. You can't drive up right to the castle though . You have to park in the parking lot by the rail train. Then you have an opinion of either walking up a very steep hill for about 30 minutes or paying 12 euros a person for a train. We got a combo ticket (train and castle entrance) for 17 euros each.

Great place to visit. It is at a height so keep in mind a medium level difficult hike awaits you. But it is worth it. It also has a tram service which takes you up and back down and it costs around 12€. It is really very beautiful and the ticket for castle can be bought directly at counter with a great gift shop as well (very reasonable prices). The ticket for castle costs 7€. I recommend to go its worth every penny.

It’s a MUST SEE place worth to be, the place is at the top of the city you can reach there either with an old train or just walking, we preferred to walk while on the way we have seen so many beautiful places and tried amazing refreshing home made mixed berry lemonade. The ticket for adults cost seven euros. You can’t take photos with professional camera without permission, but it’s ok to use the Mobile . The castle has an amazing park and small museum in underground floor and all the other rooms are presented from old times in the way they used to be. You can also download QR code to listen to the castles history

It's was a beautiful experience. The castle is well maintained and is worth viewing. There are multiple ways to reach here. By Tram, car, on foot via cemented road or by trekking through the forest area. I went through the forest route. The whole area is covered with lush greenery. If you wish to enjoy an amazing view then do walk all the way through the stairs to the top of the castle. Castle entry fee is 7 Euro Tram fee - Uphill + Downhill = 13 Euro Uphill or Downhill= 10 Euro Kids = 5 Euro

Excellent place to take photos. Unfortunately we did not have time to tour the castle. The train ride up was fun and walking the grounds was lovely. We took our dog with us and he also had a great time. Dogs are not allowed inside however. Parking is right below the train station spent two hours there and total parking was around 1.74€ We will definitely come back and do the castle tour.

It was a beautiful place in a nice mountain area beautiful garden and beautiful Castel. Negative points: 1.not enough direction hints to the Castel. we first went to the wrong direction because a lot of people were going in that direction an of course a very small direction point behind the population is not seenable. Many people went the wrong direction like us. 2.the restaurant in the Castel balcony at 3 pm 3 hours before the closing time was already out of food and they just offered soft drink actually cold drink not even tea or something similar. 3.many places in the Castel were banned with ropes and you could only look at them from distance. 4.the stairs to the very top part of the Castel actually the roof balcony were 137 stairs very tight and people who were going up and going down had to wait in the middle and manage somehow to pass and of course you had to be almost face to face with the people from opposite direction. It was also not good before corona but during the pandemic its quite not secure. I think they could manage it better like send the people up and down in turn.

Nice place to visit in summer. Even better if anyone likes to hike and visit. The design and architecture have been kept well to quite a great extent and the garden around the castle is also well maintained. One can travel till here by the mini train also if a hike is not a preference.

Probably my favorite castle in Germany. It really looks like it’s from a fairytale. The castle is so beautiful inside and out. Also the garden is absolutely amazing with a nice view. I recommend you to take the outside tower that will lead you to the top of the castle. There you will have a beautiful view.

A fantastic day out with fabulous views of the Rhine. The castle itself is gorgeous, as is the walk to get here. We visited on Dec 26, and the Christmas decorations were spectacular with some lovely touches for younger visitors. The stained glass windows were outstanding. Spotless restrooms and a lovely restaurant with wonderful waffles. The grounds are beautiful and beautifully maintained. The highlight for me was enjoying a festive gluhwein in the gardens!

Incredibly well preserved and beautiful castle, straight out of a fairy tale! There's a great view over Rhinen, at the top. Inside, you can see the amazing craftsmanship furniture, beautiful paintings and coloured glass. It was a really lovely experience and we were there for 5 hours.

Visiting this place gave me some mixed feelings. On one hand I was aware that I was just visiting a rich guy's house, who wanted to show off and say: hey I'm more wealthy than the nobles look at me! Still the place it's pretty magical and I'm glad it wasn't destroyed during the WW2. The free guide app gives you an insight of the history of every single room in the castle, over all I really enjoyed the visit

A beautiful castle built on the shores of the Rhine right below the Drachenfels ruins. Its a perfect outing on a spring summer day and can be reached by car or public transport. The hike to the castle in the forest is highly recommended, but for those who cant there is a mountain rail that takes you right up to the castle and all the way to the ruins

Wonderful place for your day trip. First, we had a problem to figure it out how we can access the place by walking. What you have to do is, if you dont wanna take a train, just reach at Drachenfelsbahn or Drachenfels train station. From there, it takes around 8 to 10 minutes to reach the castle. The entry fee was quite cheap, which you can find on their website. The place is really well preserved, area is huge, quite and very photo genic. I will suggest keeping it at 3/ 4 hours to explore around.

I loved everything about this place - the relaxing mood, the charming setting, the friendly people. I had an amazing time basking in the sunshine and taking a tour of the beautiful medieval castle. I recommend this place for anyone who enjoys historic sites and classic themed attractions. You don't even need to climb up the hill to reach the castle - you can take a fun train ride right to it! Whether you're looking for a low-key day of relaxation or want to explore the grounds of an ancient castle, this is a great spot. The peaceful atmosphere and classic vibe make it an enjoyable place to unwind and experience the history. I had a lot of fun here and think many others would too.

Beautiful castle. It's the only castle I've been in that seems livable and has a homey vibe Suggestion: 1. During summer hot days they should open some windows, I've noticed lots of people complaining about the stuffy air 2. Improve the online ticket purchase form

Very beautiful castle you can take small railways or walk by foot from parking lots - however the pass is still under construction be ready to see few constructions sites when you walking by. The castle are amazing and beautiful. Like a fairy tail outside and inside with super beautiful glass windows and classic interiors with amazing wall paintings

I'd wanted to visit this particular "castle" for years. It's not really a castle but more of a mansion stylized in a way to look like a castle, but I tink those are actually the types of castles I prefer. This is probably, in my opinion, the most interesting attraction in or around Bonn. Definitely worth the trip but I also recommend going a bit further up the hill to the peak to enjoy the view.

Awesome. You will need cash to park and for a souvenir coin. The way up can be heavy but is worth. Nice café by the entrance. The castle is nicely maintained with beautiful rooms. The tower is high and difficult to climb for weak people but you get the best view up there.

Amazing experience. Both the garden, the fountain and the entire building immerse yourself in another epoche. The inside of the castle is beautiful, if you are lucky you can watch live concert expecially during the Christmas period. Outside you can drink gluhwein, hot drinks and eat some typical german dishes. The shop Is not so big but there are some curious things that could be nice as gift.

Spectacular castle that looks like it came from a Disney movie. The castle looks marvelous on the inside, the leaded windows are beautifully painted. The interior is very interesting, unfortunately almost everything is in German, so I didn't quite understand everything. I still found it fascinating to learn everything the castle has been through. We came right when the castle opened on a Saturday, I recommend you come early, as it got quite busy during the afternoon. The surroundings are stunning as well, great for hiking. You can take a tram up, but I recommend hiking up if you have no trouble walking as the tram doesn't give you a view of the castle. The castle was definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely amazing place with very interesting and long history. It concerns composer Richard Wagner and Wilhelm Hoffman. There is a very affordable car park at the bottom of the castle that cost me £2 for 4 hours. On the way there (up the hill) you will walk past a cafe and a restaurant (when I was there in November they were closed unfortunately) with good prices as well and with outdoor sitting area that displays an amazing view. On the top of the hill, there is a tiny train station with a cute little train that goes from and to the castle. Castle itself was gorgeous, I was stunned with the beauty of it. Tickets weren't overly expensive, €7 per person. You can spend there as much time as you like, have a little lunch and drink at the sitting area. The view from that hill is breathtaking in my opinion. In overall, great experience and the place is definitely worth visiting!!

Beautiful castle! A must visit if you are in the greater area of Bonn/Cologne. Although the castle is on the smaller side, it is packed with detail and charm. One of the most beautiful castles I've been too, both inside and out. Especially the outside offers stunning architecture that can be seen by walking around the garden. As a bonus, you also get a great view of the surrounding area. (Mainly the city of Bonn, Bad Godesberg and the nature and the Petersberg). I also recommend having lunch on-site next to the castle as this offers some great views while eating. The walk up to the castle is quite steep, but you have the alternative to take the old tram up to the castle. This is a great option for people who have trouble walking. The castle also has elevators if needed. Clean amenities and friendly staff.

One of the, if not the best castle in Germany that is not in Bavaria. Go visit the Haribo factory and then stop by Schloss Drachenburg to round off a great visit to Bonn. This is a must see castle with some of the best views in Germany. Go visit now!

Surprisingly entertaining. Nice garden and beautiful views. 7 EUR entrance was ok, plus 2 EUR for parking. It took us around 2h for the full package: walking from parking lot to the viewpoint, than back to visit the castle, then down to parking lot.

Stunning historical castle found high up on the hills, architecture is amazing and gardens beautifully looked after. Entry is €7pp with a restaurant found out on the back balcony overlooking the Rhein and Bonn (Food pictured is the Frikadellen with Potato Salad and Mustard). Inside the castle are rooms arranged as such they may be found when the castle was in use with plenty of paintings on the walls and stained glass windows. The North tower is also climbable but a bit narrow, so maybe not the best for people with fears of small spaces.

Sadly the Schloss itself was closed, but the view from the top was breathtaking. If you have the time, do take the hike up the hill. I can only imagine how beautiful it would be in the Spring.

  • 5/5 Michael R. 1 year ago on Google
This is a very beautiful building and estate surrounded by a lot of walking paths and other restaurants and activities. The history of this place is packed with bizarre characters. The views of the Rhein are beautiful, especially from the top of the tower. The food at the cafe is fine but nothing incredible, about what you'd expect from a tourist location. The website says that tickets are cash but they also take credit cards.
