I stayed here from February till April because I really had no other choice. It's a disappointment. First off, the room is small (but it's not really a problem, considering it's location I can overlook this) and when I arrived it was FILTHY. Dead bugs on the window sill, dust and an empty kit Kat wrapper under the bed. The bed itself didn't have clean sheets. The bathroom has mold as well. Everything was just disgusting. The elevator keeps breaking down every other day as well. The shared kitchen made me almost throw up: it was so disgusting. I hope the new owners that are taking over do a better job, because this place is a disaster

One of the worst boarding houses ever. - elevator doesn't work (room was on 5th floor and had 2 suitcases) and someone already mentioned that in their review from a few weeks ago, so clearly the management doesn't care and hasn't dealt with it. Mind you we were told 'a technician was on his way' when we checked in. So that's lie number 1 - putrid smell coming from the bathroom - 'clean sheets' smell lived in - curtain is half pulled out if it's railing - it feels like the room hasn't been cleaned between us and the people before - the 24 hour coffee and snack place is closed. That's lie number 2 - the break room is closed. Lie number 3 - not one single person to help or assist you with anything - hallways and common areas are dirty (stains on the carpet which also looks like they haven't vacuumed in forever) Even at the inexpensive price, it's absolutely NOT worth your money. RUN.

I was in front of the hotel with my 2 small children that night and unfortunately I couldn't get in because the code I sent didn't work. Then luckily a guest let us in. We would first have to enter our details on a display and pay another €1, then we should actually get a card for the room. NOTHING worked. The hotline service didn't help either. We haven't received a refund yet. 😡

Our room smelled really bad because there was no ventilation and unfortunately we had to share it with an old smelly man. The toilet in our room was impossible to use because of the smell too, we had to use the one outside which smelled a bit better but still bad and there was no shower there. The common area is ok, the sofas aren't comfortable at all but the smell there was better than in our room. Definitely one of the worse experiences in a hostel. And they give a free drink if you review the place and show it to the reception so i wouldn't trust the good reviews.

One star is still too many. Didn't get in with the code. We were lucky that another guest had just left. When we checked in we had to pay another €2, for whatever reason???! The elevator doesn't work and the room is on the 4th floor. So we had to walk with our luggage. There are no parking facilities. The parking lot advertised on the homepage was full to capacity. The cleanliness of the room not only leaves something to be desired but is non-existent. We had booked a room with a queen-size bed and found two single beds.

The rooms are very small and not very clean, the bathrooms are even smaller. Obviously, some repairs had been done, but the result is not very good. The furniture looks wear and stained. It looks that the hotel needs serious and urgent renovation. There was some unpleasant smell all over the hotel for the whole three days I spent there. The staff was okayshly polite.

Generally good however the hotel smells a lot like cigarette smoke. The rooms are rather clean and the shower was very big and clean which is really good. Location wise, it's OK, it was not really in the center but with the Lime service the city center is reachable in a fast manner. The staff was nice and hopeful even though the cleaning people were a bit weird.

Possibly the worst hostel experience I had. - no hot water. - leaky toilet. - decaying dusty and smelly rooms: the pictures online show a nice modern hostel with clean rooms, they are nothing like it (decaying paint, cracks everywhere on the floor and walls, yellowy sheets, broken shower head ...) - no luggage service offered even if they do advertise one. - dirty dark kitchen. - no reception open for check out! Please don’t ruin your holidays and choose another place to stay!

This is by far one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in my whole life. This hotels tricks you up asking checkin money at the automatic check in and you have absolutely no one to solve your problems. We checked in late night and hotel toilet was a nightmare. As expected no one helped us out and no one even support after writing email. Big promised made on telephone calls but nothing happened. I would suggest invest some more money and better stay in hotels like IBIS which is couple of blocks away from this catastrophe. Spent you money wisely especially when you are accompanied with a girl. Goodluck

We stayed at the house on Rubensstrasse at the weekend, the one star is for the location! The room was really disproportionately dirty! Dust and hair everywhere, you could see that it hadn't been cleaned for months. It's a shame because the small apartment had potential. When we arrived the pillows were missing and the toilet lid was broken. Unfortunately there was only one towel, which was a shame!

Real nightmare: We checked in late in the afternoon, brought all our luggage to the rooms and at night we couldn't get into our rooms with the cards. Reception not manned and the emergency hotline told us we had to book another hotel. We weren't allowed into our rooms until 10 a.m. Elevator doesn't work, hallway carpets haven't been cleaned for a long time.

Just dirty and disgusting! Rarely seen such a bad “hotel”! It was dirty, the staff was overwhelmed and then you had to hear that it was clean and you didn't know what the problem was. Sorry, if the bed linen smells smelly and is dirty and there is a hair tie on the desk from a previous guest, it doesn't mean anything is clean! I was really more than shocked. Absolutely not recommended and especially not for the money!

550€/month (Longstay) for a very small room with double bed is a pretty high price, but for a last minute student hotel it is a good backup option if you don’t plan to stay longer than a few months or until you find a place with more room. The deposit of 500€ has been given back to me directly. The kitchen is used by everyone but usually doesn’t have more than 3-4 people in it.

This was by far the worst hotel we have ever booked. The rooms weren't ready for check-in, there was no need to talk about cleanliness, everything was dirty. Reception completely overwhelmed and what's more, we canceled the hotel free of charge because we didn't want to stay there and the hotel debited the money anyway and no one has been reachable since then and the money hasn't been refunded! I've never experienced anything like that... can't be recommended at all and can only be discouraged!

the lift looks feels like half broken, the bed is dusty. in the same time i have to help a lady to check in because the system keeps going back to the main menu and we have to call and wait for 15 minutes until they fix something. the floor looks like it hasnt been cleaned for thousand years. it is not even worth it for a begger to stay.

The staff was really friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the same for the toilet. I stayed for two nights in a four bed bedroom. The first night was good, the only thing that I can comment on is that the room did not have AC or even an fan so it was quite hot. However for the following night people in the hallway and outside would not quite down at all and it would be great if the hostel invested in more sound proof doors or actually enforce the "everyone most be silent after 22" since it completly wrecked my sleep.

Worst service ever!!!! We booked a room in evening and we arrived at 00h30 in front of a door close with writing on it "reception open 24/7". We called the number available on the booking and the guy who answered didn't try to help us at all. He asked us to go to his place and take a key from him. I never seen something like this in my entire life. When I ask the guy to cancel my booking to don't be charged, he didn't accept too, . Worst hotel even

Smarty is a great hostel. They don’t play music constantly in the lobby like many other hostels and the vibe is very relaxed. It is in a convenient location and there is excellent staff. I highly recommend this hostel.

Very nice rooms, quiet, nice common area. Clean, helpful staff, nice central location. Easy to check in, storage locker is very helpful. Wifi works well. No alcohol allowed but no big deal, beer sold in vending machine. Nice bathrooms and showers. Id stay again anytime

Worst hotel experience I ever had. The lobby had the smell of a decomposed body and our room was warmer than the Sahara. Even one star is way too much.

  • 1/5 Selina 1. 2 years ago on Google • 2 reviews
1 star because it is very centrally located and cheap. When we checked in the rooms weren't ready and we had to wait an hour. The rooms are very small, everything is dirty, the water in the shower and sink doesn't drain because hair sticks everywhere, the wallpaper on the walls is cracked and stapled so that it doesn't come towards you. Tissues used under the beds. No words for such a situation.

Luckily the weather played into our hands, so we only had to spend the night in the self-proclaimed 'hotel'. Pictures on any booking sites did not match what was found at all. Dirt under the beds, mold in the shower, water doesn't drain and so on... A few calls were necessary before check-in, but the card system still didn't work, which in turn resulted in countless calls... Check-out without reception staff - Call needed again. The many problems made the stay in Cologne a horror trip - the words hotel/hospitality/cleanliness are all incorrect. Definitely not value for money. Not recommended under ANY circumstances! It's a shame that such hotels are allowed to exist...

DO NOT STAY HERE. Despite having booked a private room for a 2 night/3 day stay (4 months in advance), I was told upon arrival that I had to check out after my first night, move my luggage to the luggage room, and then check back in hours later to get my room for the second night. I witnessed another guest also be told he had to check out halfway through his stay. I also witnessed a guest complain to staff that her room was NOT CLEANED upon her check-in. The staff told her this was no problem as it wasn’t evening yet so her bedding would be fixed before the night. When I asked why I don’t have a room for the span of my booking the staff said this was normal practice and there was no reason why I should be surprised. According to them, they only book rooms for the night that you stay, so there is no expectation that you have a room during the day past 11am regardless of the length of your stay there. They claim to have lockers: this is a lie. They have a luggage room, which is a group storage room that requires a keycard to get in. However, when I arrived before check-in the staff gave me the key card for the luggage room without asking for any personal information or confirmation of my booking. This means literally ANYONE can get access to luggage by walking up to the front desk and asking for the key. When I asked if I could cancel my booking on account of not receiving what I booked (a room for the length of my stay), they told me that it was not their fault that I was canceling and that my card would be charged for the stay even if I refused to sign and didn’t take the room. My first room was far from the lift, but I heard it the whole entire night. The walls are super thin, to the point where I heard people turning on the taps and talking in the bathroom above my room. My second room was next to the lift (most rooms are very close to it), and I barely slept at all even with earplugs.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money on accommodation, this hotel is suitable. Anyone who values cleanliness and quality has no business there. Don't let photos fool you!! Dusty, shower cubicle clogged, shower head broken and despite complaints the room wasn't cleaned in 2 days.

When we arrived in Cologne at 12 p.m., we had already asked whether it would be possible to check in earlier, but we were immediately told that it wasn't even certain that we would be able to get into our room at 3 p.m. (regular check-in). The cleaning staff clean the rooms very thoroughly and that “sometimes it can take longer”. We finally checked in around 4:30 p.m. 1st negative point: the elevator is broken, apparently only since this morning. There were also empty toilet paper rolls on the floor in the hallway. When we opened the door we found a completely dirty, run-down and littered room: - empty bottles, deodorant, tissues under the bed - Various beer bottles (some half full) in the cupboards - Clothes in the closets - Used mask on the locker - Unmade beds - Cent coins under the bedsheet (were the sheets even changed?) - Hair on the beds - Dust on all furniture - Used cutlery on the shelf - Used chewing gum on the windowsill - Not enough towels Apart from the condition of the furniture, the floor and the bathroom in general, the room does not correspond to any of the pictures offered. Unfortunately, after speaking to the receptionist, we weren't really helped because the hotel was fully booked - it was made clear to us that the hotel was (literally) "a dirty hotel" that didn't deserve to be called a hotel and that uncleanliness was standard be. Complaints about the condition of the rooms are probably the order of the day. According to the employee, he can “put his hand and everything else in the fire” to ensure that at least the beds are made, since he was probably personally there when the sheets were changed on the grounds that he was checking the rooms for cleanliness. It is questionable how a room can be in such a condition if they are checked before handover. The condition of the hotel is really unbearable and the uncleanliness is an absolute disgrace. Unfortunately, when we checked out we were told similar things by other hotel guests.

It's terribly dirty, the bathrooms are moldy, there's no vacuuming let alone cleaning. Some bed covers with blood stains and hair everywhere. You even feel disgusted by the way the windows are “cleaned”. Some of the furniture is terribly worn out. The arrival was not prepared and the staff was overwhelmed. After the first complaint about this condition and this dirt, we were promised cleaning for 5 rooms, but of course this didn't happen. Unfortunately, all in all a disaster. Unfortunately, the pictures you find are completely lies and were probably taken in other hotels.

When we arrived the room wasn't cleaned and the food from the previous guests was still lying around. Accommodation is also not at all like the pictures. The hallway is very run down. Bed linen partly torn. After calling the hotel directly, we were told that they had no free rooms and that we could cancel it. We were not offered any help or replacement.
