Comfortable, excellent location close to Cathedral, train station, tourist info and the cafes in the banks of the Rhine. Very helpful staff who often went out of their way to help. Very wide range of breakfast food on the buffet. No other meals but restaurants nearby. Lift to all floors. Our room was quite small but very adequate. Lovely shower.

Great hotel with huge selection of breakfast. Room was so little, but enough for us to sleep. Rooms were quiet and the bathroom is superb. Sadly the location is now full with reconstructions, but you cannot hear anything since the rooms are sound-proofed. Recommended place!

We stayed here for 3 nights in early June. The location was great, just a couple of minutes walk from the cathedral (Kölner Dom). We received details to self check-in via email, which was an easy process on the machine when we arrived. However, this wasn't mandatory, and there was reception staff available. The room itself was a standard size, enough for the 3 nights. Unfortunately we were very dissatisfied that the air-conditioning did not work. We reported this and were told it would be checked, but it wasn't fixed. We specifically chose a hotel with air-conditioning so the lack of this was very disappointing. When we checked out and we were asked if everything was ok, we did note that it didn't work. This was barely acknowledged other than to ask if we had closed the windows first. We were also asked this when we reported the issue at first. Given this isn't our first time staying in a hotel, we had of course closed the windows to see if this worked, but it did not. Because the air-conditioning did not work, we had to sleep with the windows open. We had very poor sleep because the noise from outside was extremely loud, even into the late hours. We chose a cathedral view room. The pillows were also too soft. There was no tea or coffee making facility. However, there was a mini fridge, TV with HDMI output and safe available. Room service was available but no menus in the room, so unsure how this could be ordered. The room was not worth the money and not of suitable quality for 4*. Despite raising issues, nothing was done. We would not chose this hotel next time we're staying in Cologne, nor would we recommend.

I couldn't rave enough about this hotel. It is honestly wonderful. Not only is it great value for money but our stay here was exceptional. The rooms were very clean with air con and everything you needed. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The location meant we were right in tbe centre of Cologne and to top it off, we had a view of the cathedral. The beds, pillows and duvet felt luxurious and comfortable like sleeping in a pile of clouds. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Excellent location right by the cathedral. A room with cathedral views is a little extra $$ but worth it in my opinion. The outside of the hotel doesn't look like much but inside is quite modern and the room was spacious & very clean. I would recommend to stay here. It's also very close to an old roman road & iconic storybook fountain. For parking, there's a discount with a parking garage just a 5-8 min walk away.

11 out of 10 for location. We went to Cologne for a 3 night city break to experience the Christmas markets. The reception staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. The hotel had a pleasant ambience and several wonderful Christmas markets were within a few minutes walk as was the magnificent cathedral. There was mineral water provided in the rooms but no coffee making facilities. There were a lot of charging points in the room so our phones, tablets and power bank were kept well supplied, It was a double room but there was only one chair, probably because the room was quite small but perfectly adequate for a short break.

Terrible experience. I booked 3 rooms from the website for the CityClass Hotel am Dom (August). We arrived at the desk for our stay in December and were told the hotels have changed names and we were now at the CityClass Hotel am Heumarkt. There was no email notification, no notice. Hotels might change names, but not addresses. Management obviously changed us to another hotel. Unacceptable. Unsatisfactory. The first pic is from their website, I know I booked "am Dom." Second and third pics of from the email confirmation. Because the hotel is located on a busy street, there is no parking. We unloaded bags, and as I drove to park the car at a nearby garage, my family went to the desk and was informed of this situation. They called me and I had to circle back through heavy traffic, stop at the hotel and load baggage into car and drive to the other hotel. What a mess and lots of stress.

I only give one star because of the staff. Firstly, the hotel staff did not help us when we checked in. They told us they were busy and would not have the time to help us. Then when i talked to the receptionist, she walked away like i havent told her that i didnt know how it worked. Secondly, the clean lady did NOT close our door after going, which i find very dangerous and disrespectful. Last but not least, just because we ordered the breakfast later than in the check-in, the staff just came to us to pay the check WHILE we we’re eating breakfast, very rude. So, the staff was very disrespectful, but the rooms and the location was very good. Would not recommend.

Friendly, welcoming helpful and professional. The staff, facilities and services here are excellent, in a good location. I'm here for work, stayed 10 nights in a 'superior single' room. The view of the cathedral is impressive. My only complaints - The room was an akward shape, difficult to move around in and comfortably sit at the desk. Breakfast is very expensive considering they offer no gluten-free breads, cereals or suitable alternatives.

The only redeeming quality of this hotel was its location. Pretty sure the room they put me in used to be a utility room or something. No number on the door or anything. Weird smells. Weird locked door in the room. Very strange decor choices. Impossible to find the room without an escort from the front desk. Far from the “superior room” I booked on Expedia. Beware.

Good technical spec of the room, insulation, heating, and furniture. It feels good to stay at a hotel where the infrastructure was built to last. Good quality breakfast; the buffet was kept fresh and well-stocked throughout the breakfast time. I would've given a 5-star rating had my shower's water pressure been at par with what a 4-star hotel would typically offer. My colleague who got a room next to me didn't have the water pressure problem. So, check first if shower's water pressure is an important feature for you.

Great location for business trips. Close to the main central station and other public transport connections. The breakfast is very good, the rooms are equipped with everything I needed for work during my business trip. I will definitely return!

Hotel in the heart of city. the lady from the reception forget my special request, to put in the room anti-allergen pillow and blanket. I needed to look after them in their deposit with the guy from security in the night when I arrived after a long flight….

Great stay at CityClass Hotel Europa am Dom. Fantastic location, close to the cathedral, several excellent restraints/cafes and a nice local shopping district. Place was clean, AC was great, beds were comfortable. Area was pretty quiet at night (even on a Sat). Front desk staff was friendly and kept our bags safe for about 6 hours before our train. Would highly recommend this hotel, great value for the price and location is unbeatable.

Easily accessible from the Klön train station. Small rooms but a food ratio price/value. Location is ideal to visit the Cathedral, museums, gardens, shops.

The single rooms are too small - it's a shoe box. I don't recommend booking one of these. Everything has the feeling of being cheap... worst coffee I ever had for breakfast. Staff and location is super.

Worst hotel experience in a 4 star hotel! No hot water in the room but they don't seem to care. We checked-in late around 11pm, they didn't inform us about no hot water even though they knew this in advance. We were finally able to reach the reception after calling 3 times. They asked us to wait until morning and try again. We still had no hot water running and they offered free breakfast as compensation in the end. The room itself is very small and old. Location is great. But due to the Christmas market right across from the street and poor sound insulation, you can hear noises on the street even with windows closed.

Standard hotel, with a decent breakfast and the rooms are alright. Would like a coffee machine in the room. Main issue for me was the mold on the walls of the shower which could be easily removed with some HG cleaner.

Rooms and location are excellent. The bar staff is incredibly rude and disrespectful. Ruined a 5-star hotel experience..

We enjoyed a 3 days stay. The hotel is very well located. The staff is friendly and the facilities are good. Breakfast with good variety of options and there is the bar open all day. Our room had a nice view of the Dom, but photos in the website may the superior double room looks bigger than it in fact is. For those going by car, the parking in the Dom is a good option.

Room was devent size for the price. Could of been cleaned better. Their was hair under the blankets from the last person. They give you 1 pillow that is so thin you might as well not even use it. We had to use our blanket as a pillow. Location is pretty good. Close to the Kölner Dom. Good view. Nice staff.

Pleasantly surprised. Close to church and train station. Clean and neat. Easy check in and sign out. Single room was perfectly suited for my needs as a solo traveler, perhaps even 2 person for a pinch. Bed was comfortable. Appreciate the ability to control AC/temp and bed lamp all in reach from bed. Would be happy to stay here again.

We visited this hotel recently and loved it. The location is perfect to say the least. Brilliantly designed rooms, There were a lot of small touches that made it really special. The views from the hotel are beautiful. My only negative would be the bathroom lay out, it was definitely unusual. The reception staff were also incredibly helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Excellent location in the old town part of Cologne, a block from the Cathedral and central train station, walk to restaurants, shopping. Safe. The room was compact but adequate, the mattress was moderately comfortable. The breakfast buffet had a large selection. We loved being able to pop in and out of our room in between exploring the city, we could see the cathedral from our windows!

Higly recommended. Quiet room, clean everyday. Breakfast until 10:30. The Cathedral just 30 sec. by walk. Really good location and service. Fine breakfast.

Great hotel. From the friendly reception staff, comfy beds, proper pressure shower to the very convenient location - close to the station and the cathedral - yet far enough from the weird bums around that area :)

Great location👍🏻 But bad service and dirty!! We found three spiders in the room and hair in the bathroom! The pillow was something else it was so bad that we used a towel as a pillow. The breakfast was good and we enjoyed it.

Excellent hotel, within walking distance of Cologne Cathedral, The Rhine, Alter Markt and main railway station. Staff are friendly, very helpful and polite. Good selection at breakfast, continental and english available. Room was spacious, walk in shower, comfortable bed and quiet.

Perfect location near all amenities. Not far from the shopping and train station. Our room was facing the Cathedral and the Christmas markets. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety.

The location is perfect – very central and close to the train station. The room was very clean, modern and overall pretty nice. One note – I wasn't a big fan of the pillows: they were too soft and low for me. What I was pretty upset about is my check in experience. I checked-in online (that experience wasn't very smooth), and had an expectation that all I need to do is to go to a machine and get a key. I had a long day, it was late. Unfortunately, the machine wasn't working properly: it showed my my data but couldn't make a key, and what upset me the most is the man working at the reception who wasn't very helpful (not super nice either). He first told me he couldn't find my reservation and then that he doesn't know how to deal with the machine because it's new and has been installed that day. What I thought would (and should) take 30 seconds took 45 minutes because I was there with a large group. Even though I left the credit card details while checking in, I couldn't pay with my credit card in the hotel. It would be nice if the machine was properly tested and the staff was trained to deal with that. If you as a hotel offer the online check in (which is a great idea), please make sure it works as intended. Without the online check-in I would expect to wait and fill out the papers, so the whole experience wouldn't have been that bad.

Absolutely horrible. The street in front of the hotel is torn up and you can not access the property. They claim to have parking but sent us over half a mile away and then we had to drag out bags back. Unhelpful and rude staff, absolutely should not be on amex travel site.

Stayed in Köln for 5 nights, 4 of them in the am Dom. Location-wise it couldn't have been better for us: opposite the cathedral and walking distance from Köln Hbf. Minutes from the squares for food and drink. In every direction there was so much to be done. The hotel was very clean, had a wonderful shower (odd thing to be happy about I know) and the staff could not do more for us. Thank you.

Room itself wasn't amazing decor wise but it's just what you need. The patio outside my room was huge and mostly very private. Had a table and chairs and a view of the cathedral because it's literally right across the street. You have a short walk to the old Town and river to the right and shopping to the left less than a 10 min walk. The staff was so fast to help me w anything. Cons are the slow elevator like not even a point of taking it and it's small, other than that no complaints

  • 4/5 Toma L. 1 year ago on Google
The good: Location was as good as you could ask for. River Rhine and all its restaurants 2 seconds away and plenty of other excellent restaurants and cafes nearby. A bit hard to find with the car as Google Maps takes you close but not directly to it - we had to park and walk there before working out there's a small alleyway you can drive down to get to it. Paid car park is super close and no inconvenience to reach. Room was clean and comfy. Beds were quite comfortable. The not so good: No mini fridge. No tea or coffee. The water coming out of the shower into the hallway (other reviews have mentioned it) is a genuine problem and you'll need to put a towel at the bottom of the door to stop it. No supermarkets nearby.
