The worst experience. Couldn’t even done their basic job. The check in time supposed to be 3pm. We arrived at 4:20pm, and reception says the room isn’t ready, they asked us to come back after 15mins. And we went out took a walk until 6:30pm, the room still uncleaned. When we’re back to reception, ZERO apology from the staff. What a shame! 😠😠

Great safe feeling hostel. Staff were extremely helpful and easy to approach. All staff spoke English very well which made my stay even easier. Meet some great people here and would definitely travel back again. It was pretty close to all the maim points of interest's while there.

Kind of weird to book an over night stay and the beds aren't even made for you. The bunks didn't have a place to plug in your phone, and the pillows were uncomfortable. All that said it was very clean, and walkable to the cathedral.

I stayed in a 4-bed mixed dorm. The room had the right size, nice design & clean. Noise from outside wasn’t an issue at all. The bathroom could have been cleaned a bit better. Typical hostel, I felt comfortable, recommended for someone who’s open for the hostel experience!

You pay 5.5 euro city tax upon arrival at the hotel, which has a sufficient price-benefit balance. If you are staying in a dormitory, you make your own sheets and bedding. In the double room, you are met with a ready-made bed sheet. You can use the kitchen of the facility, provided that you pay 20 euro deposit. When you wash the dishes and deliver the materials such as pots and pans, you get the deposit back. We would like to thank Serhat, Diana, Margarita and Alex who worked devotedly at the reception, for helping them in every way. We felt the warmth of our home thanks to these employees. You can be proud of your employees!

I had really pleasant stay for one night in the hostel (single bedroom). Rooms are clean and pristine. The receptionist (Kuno) was fabulous, he did best to assist and made things easier. The location is in the city centre. Nothing to complain about.

Great location in the city and super friendly staff! The front desk staff simultaneously worked as bartenders and were quick in helping the many people they had to tend to. Super nice spot!

Stayed there one night. I’d read reviews about how hot it is, but I thought it was fine (it was about 75f the day I was there). Definitely didn’t need the blanket provided though. The room was very clean and the beds were comfy. The bathroom connected was also very clean. It was perfect for me because I just wanted a chill night, but if you wanted to meet people, I think the hostel itself gives more hotel vibes. A lot of families seemed to be staying there. I did meet people from my room, but I could imagine you could be in a room with older people who aren’t solo travelling. It is about a 25 min walk from the train station but the part of Cologne it’s in is busy- lots of restaurants, bars, cafes, etc. I enjoyed the area a lot. There also seemed to be a few gay bars around. Also, a lot of Cologne is cash only & most of the ATMs around charge a €5-6 fee. I would definitely get cash before coming. Tldr; would stay again, had the best nights sleep, but less social than other hostels.

I booked on a busy week so it was already expensive for a hostel, however, it did not pay off. The staff was ok but didn't really engage with the guests arriving. The room lacked some basic things like hand towels (there were only shower towels) and it was a bit dark for my taste. I had a nasty situation with another guest trying to open my door because he was drunk and walking around in his underwear in the middle of the hallway. I tried to inform the staff at the front desk but no one was available. The breakfast was pretty standard but was not restocked properly so when I arrived many products like cheese were gone. The room was ok and clean, with a decent size, and comfortable bed. The location was easy to reach with public transport and offer enough options to go out to eat.

Great for class trips! Travelled with a medium sized class, and everything was well. The pupils were happy to stay there, and could play billiard and "kicker" in the lounge, while we teachers even got a card for free hot and cold beverages every day. They even had dedicated night security personell in order to keep peace at night (letting us teachers rest during the night). Was a good starting place for day trips as well, having easy connections with the tram to the city.

I stayed here a total of 1 night. Room was very hot at night as no AC, not even a fan. There was one small window open but it didn't help much. I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm. Other guests were friendly and nice and respectful of each other's space and sleep. Our room had an ensuite shower and toilet which was very clean on arrival. Public areas including outdoor patio were relaxed, nothing fancy but no complaints either. Service was good; I didn't interact much with staff but no complaints. Location not as downtown as I would have liked but that's my fault. About 30min walk to main train station. Neighbourhood of the hostel - lots of restaurants around, bus stops very close by. Overall, it suited the needs of my stay. Would stay again but not in summer with high heat😂

At the time we were staying there, there were also a lot of children (some school trips) and thus there was a lot of noise. Breakfast was full until 9:00, so we could have breakfast after 9:00 if we didn't want to wait in line (breakfast started at 7:00). However, the breakfast was very big and we were pleased with the pancakes. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable, the walls were thin, so there was constant knocking and slamming of doors from the corridor.

the location is good but we booked 5 people in 1 room and they gave us 1 bedroom for 4 people so 1 of us had to sleep in another room with 3 different people, because they didn't have other rooms available. That was not cool. The rooms are okay but the shower head was broken and the water in the shower stayed at the bottom and didn't drain.

We are family of 5 and booked the entire room for our family. It was great. Lots of space. The hostel has a washing machine and dryer for guests to use, which is essential for our 1.5 week vacation. There is a garage in the basement which is very convenient if you rent a car (though we did not). Walking from bus stop is about 6-10 minutes depending on which station you head to. There are restaurants and supermarkets nearby. Overall happy with our stay.

Stayed in a twin room which was very nice for a budget hotel. As last time the room was spacious and clean, though unfortunately i didn't sleep as well as last time, the pillows were lumpy and I'm not used to synthetic blankets. The room was very warm, which is nice in this weather, but as last time I noticed the ventilation wasn't very good and the room can be just a bit stuffy- nothing opening a window can't fix.

The place is centrally located. Very Clean and Neat Rooms. The staff were very helpful in all regards. A very good hearty breakfast for 9 euro. The only thing I wish was they had written snacks available to go and when I asked in morning while leaving, they didn't have any sandwich or other options. Even the coffee machine wasn't working.

  • 5/5 Ben K. 1 year ago on Google
It really delivered what I expected. A comfortable bed. A shower that's working and friendly staff. I could only recommend the place for those like me who just need their room for a place to sleep. The breakfast buffet was really good too. 5 stars

For the price we paid as a group of 6, this was a good hostel to stay at. The room was big and quite clean. The outside looked sketchy, but inside was fine and the staff were friendly. We took a private room option, which included sheets and towels. But beware of you go to shared rooms you need to bring your own. Or buy them

This is easily the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. Let’s start with check-in. Stood at the desk for ages, and was then treated like I was an inconvenience. Bed had no sheet, pillow case, or blanket. Toiletries empty in the dorm room (and not once during the four days that I was there did any staff member come in to clean the room, let alone re-stock the toiletries - they were empty for two days). That lack of cleaning provided an experience with bed bugs, so that was great. Dorm room window barely opens, for “safety reasons”, causing the room to become violently overheated, while also retaining a smell that is similar to a locker room inside of a gymnasium. Main bathrooms were also empty of soap, and toilet paper. The location is fantastic, but for the price I paid vs. what I actually received, I would have probably had a better experience sleeping inside of the train station.

Stayed with my partner in a double room. Good value for the facilities. Very clean, decent sized room. This isn't a "party" hostel, so if you're going wanting pub crawls and a rowdy atmosphere with lots of other young people, then best to look elsewhere, but if you want a good basic room for a good price, then you'll be happy. Breakfast overpriced for what you get.

  • 1/5 Karsten Z. 1 year ago on Google
By far the loudest accommodation I've ever stayed in. Upon arrival, our room wasn't ready in time for check-in. At night, there's a constant slamming of doors, shouting and running in the hallways, banging on doors, shouting and laughing. I appreciate it's one of the cheapest places to stay in Cologne but it's definitely still overpriced considering you won't get a minute of rest or sleep!

If you stay at most 2 nights it's cool, but the lack of AC, hard beds and lackluster lockers under the bed leave a lot to be desired.

This is my second stay at A&O hostel, Cologne. I prefer it to most other hostels in Germany, mostly because the staff are fantastic. On this stay I got help from Samantha to find a missing guitar, and on the night shift Hassan helped me find a nice kebab to eat

I stayed here for 3 nights of my 4 nights booked in August 2023. The rooms were too warm even in the evenings and I got horribly bitten by bed bugs and decided to check out early. The staff were nice and helpful but at times they weren't enough workers. Good location though, very close to trams and a couple of good gay bars.

  • 5/5 Kelly M. 8 months ago on Google
I really liked staying here. For a hostel it was very quiet. We stayed 9 nights so got a good idea of the place. Breakfast started out great but it was repetitive, and only cold salami for meats so not very filling. They did good pancakes and hard boiled eggs not really anything else for me. So it was hard going for 9 days. Would have loved sausages, fried or scrambled eggs, beans etc. We had a 4 person family room and we like it and found the space adequate for the purpose. Parking on site is expensive. Parking on the street is impossible. You'll likely get towed if you can't get in a parking space fully. So bare that in mind - what you save on the room, you could pay extra for accomodation with free/cheaper parking

Recently, my girlfriend and I had the opportunity to stay here for two days. It has a great location. The reception is friendly and attentive. The rooms are clean.

We quite often had some problems with the room. The hotel service solved all of the problems very quickly, but we would still prefer if it didn't happen at all. We lived at the upper floor and it was VERY hot in there, I had to sleep in pyjamas dripped in cold water. It always got dry during the night.

Very very noisy and rude load of kids staying at the same time, no effort visibly made to keep them quiet. Did not specify our beds as well so we ended up having to randomly move beds one day after having made our beds etc. Location fine but not amazing.

I just wanted to give a shout out to Samantha, my partner and I arrived at the Hostel after a long night and day of travelling and had barely slept for 30 or so hours. Samantha went out of her way to make us feel welcome and organise what we needed. Thank you so much!

Despite the reviews here. We still booked the room because of our schedule and price. The location is a bit far from city centre, but easy to reach using the electric step. Our room was well cleaned and looked alright for the price. The people working there are very nice and helpful. There is a pooltable there for 2,50 for 30min. Which is so cheap, mind the condition of the table. Windows are kinda useless as it doesnt open wide

I was in the 4 person room. Bathroom small but toilet ok, also the double bed. Towels on the bed and sheet and blanket self service. The reception area great and 24/7 service and food.

On arrival at the check in time we were told we would have to wait a further 30 mins. After the 30mins we were given our room key. When we got to our room it was clear it hadn't been cleaned, no beds had been changed, dirty towels etc. We went back to reception where we were told we must wait some more. About 30 mins later we were told we could go back to our room. The beds had been changed, but there was still hair in the shower and sink and the toilet was dirty. There was only 1 person at reception and there were long ques to talk to anyone. The hostel was a good distance from the town center though.

Everything was very good but why you need bring your own linen and towels to a hostel? I was in Paris and Barcelona with a few friends and the beds in the group rooms were made and you received 1 towel.

Nice Hostel rooms are practical and pretty Problem is you should not open the window! I got accused that I threw out a bottle in the middle of the night and security personal came into my room because my window was open completely because it was hot in the room!

Stayed here for 3 days on a business trip, very nice hotel close to the center of Cologne with a couple of public transportation stations nearby as well as other super markets and lots of restaurants. ( I recommend “Habibi” restaurant ) The staff are really welcoming and helpful, and they gave us great recommendations on where to visit and shop. The booking process through booking.com was simple and easy, I had the option to pay at the property and they didn’t ask for any credit card information which gave me more flexibility. The private rooms are clean and they’re a good value for the price. Would recommend for a short visit to Cologne and you’re looking for a budget hotel.

I've always preferred a&o everytime. It's the best place to be in. Cheap and affordable hostels, good room service, neat and clean and best comfort. Definitely in my budget. I'd recommend this place.

Got the 4 pax private room. You have to put on your own linen. The light was spoiled and they did not offer to change our room, and only could fix it the next day. Bathroom and toilet was split into two areas. Toilet area was clean. However, the shower areas are extremely dirty with black mold on the crevices and floor. Shower head was spoiled and water was flowing from one stream of water. Shower area is also extremely small even for a normal sized person. The room in general was claustrophobic and dirty. Receptionist was very unfriendly and we felt unwelcome at the hostel. Location is OK for those exploring the New Market area, but it is quite a walk from Cologne Central (25 minutes walk). Not particularly near any public transport either. Will not return, and the price we paid was not particularly cheap either. If you have the money, please opt for a better accommodation.

Private room for 4 people: Generally, quite clean and tidy. Standard room size and very functional furnishings. The bathroom consisted of two parts, a toilet and sink, and a shower and another sink. Very courteous staff. There is the possibility of leaving your luggage in a storage room (at least for groups). I'd be back

I honestly can't complain about anything that the hostel did bad, the rooms and sheets are clean, there's a bar and the reception is open 24/7. I had terrible people in my room but that's just hostel life.

Booked a females only room as I'm not comfortable in a mixed room. I was shocked that a day into my stay that a man would be staying in the room as well. There was no mention of this in the booking, nor were we informed of the change at any point. As a separate issue, the bathroom is definitely not sanitized properly.

Loved my stay at AO-hostel Neumarkt. It's not the most social hostel in my experience but the rooms were clean, modern and the staff was great. Unfortunately I tested positive for coronavirus at my last day; and they were very accomodating in this situation and I am very grateful to them for that.

Not bad. The rooms feel fairly proportioned. They didn't give me a good tour of the place so I didn't realize there was a laundry or kitchen until a few days later, but it was somewhat my fault for arriving late. Paying for sheets is a bummer. Rooms are a little hot. USB outlet by bed is a nice touch, but they are A and most people use C these days. Kitchen is a little pathetically sized for a hostel of this size. Social atmosphere is very mixed. Great location.

Notice that “guests in multi-bed rooms need bed linen and towels, if they didn't bring their own. You get bed linen for 3.50€ and a towel for 1.50€”. It was not clear during my booking (not cons). The window can be open wider with the key which one should ask for at the reception. But, normally the window can only be open by few centimeters, not enough for circulation. It is not comfortable, especially during summer. Two USB sockets for every bed, but mine is broken. There were parties on the street. I can hear people talking till 4-5 am. Difficult for a sleep. Not recommend for people who just want to take a rest. Two stars for cheap price and the kind staff answering my questions.

Unfortunately not the best Hostel I've ever been... Not very clean but the worste thing is that nothing is done in order to promote new meetings between guests! At 9 p.m. the outside space is closed Another bad thing is the kitchen, not right level Then good rooms and location, but if you go in hostel for knowing new people there is a bit more difficult then in others

Perfect cheap place to book last minute for 1-3 night. Double room we stayed in was on 3rd floor, with comfy & clean beds. Towels and douche gel were available in the room, that is huge +. Sound isolation could be better, but we too tired after long trip to pay attention to it anyways. For 2 people for 1 night with breakfast it costs 100eur (30.08.2022), that is just a perfect deal because of the location, as the hotel is really close to the center. Recommend 👌

I was with them during Gamescom. The staff is very nice and polite. The place is very clean, they cleaned the room every morning and changed the towels. The place is centrally located, everything can be reached quickly. The breakfast was very delicious, the ingredients were fresh, the baguettes were freshly baked and were fresh and crispy even at eight in the morning. 🙂

It was a nice hotel room. Very friendly people everywhere. I only gave 4 stars because we were only able to check in quite late. The roomservice wasn't able to clean our room on time (somebody was sick and they just needed longer that day). But we got free drinks while we waited in a very nice waiting aerea so it was fine. They kept us updated about the room and made sure we are okay. They also gave us free breakfast the next day as an excuse (which was delicious). I would stay there again :)
