Bed was very uncomfortable, pillows were so soft they didn't feel like there was a pillow, and the housekeeping service was very aggressive about getting into the room. I'd recommend avoiding. Only thing good here is location, and even that can be improved upon.

I stayed here for a few days earlier this month (September 2023). It was a great experience! Every member of the staff I came into contact with was nice, courteous, and professional. The room was amazing with a wonderful view of the cathedral. Breakfast was great - tons of options (fruit, sausage, bacon, eggs, breads). The only negative I really had was that the shower was a little dark (no light in the shower itself). The tub was AWESOME! I would 100% stay here again if I visit in the future.

The location was top. The staff friendly and helpful. The parking situation and price was good. The Price-performance ratios was very satisfying. I drop one star, because of few tiny hairs on the floor and loose silicone seal in the shower. Overall a good hotel I would book again.

Wow. Can’t say enough about this hotel and it’s team. Here are a few highlights: 1. Location. Truly can’t be beat. Probably best location where you get to see the Dom and be in the thick of the action from restaurants to bars. 2. Cleanliness. Wow, absolutely spotless. Super super clean and attention to detail. The rooms are updated, simple yet beats all expectation. 3. Staff. This front end team, especially the lead manager at the front desk is absolutely amazing. He remembers every group and their room #. They also upgraded us to a room that was mind blowing awesome. Highly recommend this place if you are in Köln and want a great room in an even better location.

Location sehr gut. We stayed in a small room. But everything functions well. The bathroom left me very good impression. Toilet flush is strong. Toilet paper is of good quality.👍🏼 The sink is deep enough to avoid water splash. The shower glass door is very "German engineering" . Hotel lobby public bathroom is very spacious and clean with sensor tap. The only annoying part is house keeping begins to knock door by door at 9:30am. And knock again at 10:30. I applaud for their deligence. But we need our sleep.

Modern hotel in a great location. My room is small but comfortable, with AC and mini-fridge. Friendly and helpful staff. On the Alter Markt, near the cathedral, train station and Rhine.

We stayed in this hotel and I must say that we really enjoyed it. The staff was kind to welcome us and explain everything. The room was very nice and they let us find sweets on the bed, their gesture was very nice, we appreciated it. The room was clean, the bed very comfortable and the TV in the room. The bathroom was very nice and the design too. We found ourselves very well, then this hotel is in the center you can walk everywhere. Definitely going back!

Well situated Hotel close to the central train station. A lot of tourists stuff around. Rooms are okay. The trash was not emptied from before my visit which was meh. Breakfast is good, lots of choice. Elevators so access is good, though steps are present to the breakfast area.

Very friendly staff, nice and clean room, comfy beds, perfect location, great breakfast. Only "negative": we were up for 20 hours when we arrived and were happy to hear that check-out wasn't until noon and breakfast would be served till 1pm - but for some reason we got woken up by housekeeping at 9am. Fantastic stay overall 😊

Once again I recently stayed in the City Class Hotel “Alter Markt” as it continues to offer all that I need each time that I visit Cologne! It was a joy for me to have lived in the city of Cologne at one point, therefore I know it well, and I can assure you this hotel is in a fantastic location in the heart of the city with many wonderful sites located just a short walk away! In addition to its excellent location, this modern hotel offers well-appointed and comfortable rooms, a nice breakfast buffet with a variety of hot and cold options, and a café that offers some of the best house-made and beautifully conceived cakes in the city! My very favorite aspect about this hotel however, is the staff and the director of the hotel, Lena… all of whom are the ultimate reason that I will continue to return to this particular hotel. I would like to clarify that the staff that I refer to includes not only the individuals at the reception desk, but also the staff and management of the cafe, as well as members of housekeeping who service the rooms! I would like to share that the reception and café staff are all exceptional individuals who offer attentive and personalized service tailored to guest’s needs and wishes! These professionals are friendly, thoughtful, and personable people who always make me feel welcomed and comfortable, as if I’m returning back home when I arrive in Cologne and walk through the doors! During this last visit I had the great fortune and pleasure to meet Lena, the hotel’s director and inspiration… I use the word inspiration because this most adequately describes the aura of this remarkable, kindhearted, and passionate individual! After a wonderful conversation with Lena it became clear to me why this hotel and its staff offer more than just quality service; Lena has instilled her vision and inspiring nature among her staff to provide the feeling that you are more than just a guest in a hotel, but rather a guest in their home… My sincere appreciation and gratitude to Lena and her amazing team! The location of this hotel is incredible. The amenities were nice and the suite was fine for crashing after walking all day. But... the pillows were my only issue. Make sure you get some real pillows or your back will scream. Mine did.

Fantastic hotel. We stayed in a twin room. The hotel is modern and nicely decorated, everything is very clean and the staff is friendly and professionnal. The breakfast was very good and there was a lot of choice. Overall, we had a pleasant stay. Thank you to the whole team !

A great experience. The service is great and the cakes in the afternoon at the lounge…the best I have ever ate. Congratulation to the hotel for keeping the pastry chef around and to the chef for his excellent baking skills!

Nice hotel right on the Altmarkt in Köln and only a 5-10 minute walk to the Köln Dom and Haupbahnhof. Includes a restaurant and bar, a breakfast buffet in the mornings is an additional charge. Room was clean and about standard for Europe in size. Location is hard to beat if you want to be "in the action". Most staff seemed to speak very good English. Small elevator for ease of luggage entry/exit. Housekeeping was a little aggressive on our last morning of our stay as they knocked on our door three separate times long before checkout.

Excellent hotel. I stayed here for 2 nights in August. The staff were friendly and helpful. I got good suggestions for food and transportation. Price was very reasonable. I highly recommend this hotel if you are in Cologne. Room: Although a bit smaller than other hotels, it was functional and comfortable. The bed was really comfortable. The window was facing the local pubs, but I did not hear any outside noise (contrary to other reviews). Room was clean. I have high standards for cleanliness and it more than met my standards. Location: Excellent location. Everything was within walking distance. The Cathedral and shopping were all within 5 minutes. Pubs and food were just outside the lobby. Train station was about 5-8 minutes walk. Breakfast: I paid an extra 10 Euros for the breakfast buffet. It was definitely worth it. The coffee alone was worth the price. Great selection of food and drinks.

We were searching for a hotel that was close to the Dom and train station and river front, but not too close, and this property definitely delivers! The room was clean and neat and perfect for a short stay. I was concerned about the noise from the nearby restaurants, but with the window closed it was quiet at night. The location is ideal, as other have said; a short 5-8 minute walk to the Cathedral, right off the pedestrian area Alter Market where there are many restaurants, and very close to the Rathaus U-bahn station. Staff were exceedingly helpful with info about places to go and how to purchase a Cologne train pass. Breakfast buffet is very yummy, and there’s two little bakeries right cross the Alter Market if you prefer something simple. (I highly recommend Oma Janssen.) I definitely feel we got very lucky with this hotel and would highly recommend it.

Decent hotel but the “superior” rooms are super small. Also there is a lot of noise from the pub downstairs until 00:00 on weekdays and 02:00 in the weekend. For the price you’re paying you can find much better hotels in Cologne

Excellent hotel. Brilliant location. Staff very helpful. Sound proofing very good. We slept well and had a view of the cathedral from our room. Very close to the main train station as well as underground stops. Would stay here again without hesitation.

I booked a three-night stay at the City Class am Dom in August 2022 and immediately regretted it. The air conditioning barely functioned and did not cool the room at all, so I was unable to sleep. The supposed “king-size bed” was actually just two twin beds pushed together. The bathroom lacked an electrical outlet, so we couldn’t use bathroom appliances. I asked twice for an extension cord, and the front desk attendant never got back to us or put in any effort to find one. After the first night, we cancelled the rest of our stay and went to another hotel, but City Class refused to refund our money. Later, I left a negative review on Expedia. Someone from CityClass replied that they had refunded half of our initial cost. This was a lie – I never received any refund from them, even after trying to contest the charges with the credit card company. They also claimed that all their bathrooms have outlets, and maybe some of them do, but ours did not, and they didn’t offer to move us to another room when I brought it up. Avoid this hotel – both the service and the facilities are poor, and the management seems to be underhanded and untrustworthy.

I stayed at the Hotel Residence for one week while in Cologne for a work conference. The location is excellent; close enough that you can walk to most of the major sights but not so central that it's loud all the time. Public transportation, including the central train station, the U-Bahn station at the Rathaus and trams at Heumarkt, is just a short walk away. The Alter Markt is lively but the hotel has really strong windows that keep everything quiet inside. My room was comfortable and very clean, with pretty standard amenities for a midrange German hotel. I especially appreciated having a minifridge to keep drinks and medication cool. The breakfast buffet is great with plenty of fresh and healthy options. My only complaint is the tendency of housekeeping to leave the windows open after cleaning the room. It's inconsistent; sometimes they do it, sometimes not. This allowed flies to get into my room on several days, which was annoying when I wanted to relax after long days at work. Please leave the windows as they are to avoid this annoyance for future guests.

We arrived at 11 pm, but our room had people in it when we walked in. The hotel gave away our room by mistake. My family had to wait in the 3rd floor hallway for 30 minutes while they figured out what happened and got us a new room, so check in took 45 minutes in total. At 11:45 most nearby restaurants were closing. The best thing the staff could suggest was McDonald's at a train station. There are better options, but you have to figure those out on your own (Google maps helps). The air conditioner had limits on temperature settings. 21 was the lowest option, and they have thick blankets so I got hot at night and woke up. Played around with the thermostat, changed it to English and removed the mimitation. The hotel staff should have made sure their AC temperature limits are removed prior to check in. Not a great start to my first trip to Germany :(

If you want to stay in the heart of Köln this is the place. The location is within walking distance to bars, restaurants, and in the middle of many events. Parking is within one block. The staff is fantastic, providing excellent service and direction whenever needed. Stop and order cakes at the onsite restaurant. The cakes are amazing.

Location was amazing! Access to many restaurants, the cathedral, market square, bars, cafe's on and on. Price was very good. The room was tiny but completely ok with us. If you are a large person the bathroom could be a problem but it was ok for us. The only complaint I have is the A/C did not work which is common in this area. I am always hot so had to sleep with the windows open but then had to deal with noise, but that's my problem. Otherwise, great value

Nice hotel in the heart of Cologne close to the Dom. Ideal to explore the city. Clean, friendly service, very good breakfast. Standard rooms are a bit small and those who are on the side of Alter Markt, not really quiet. Still, very nice experience overall.

Fantastic hotel. Near the river, Cathedral, museums, and surrounded by bars and restaurants. Rooms are clean and well appointed (although no tea/coffee making facilities as we'd expect in the UK). Our room on the fifth floor had views across to the cathedral and down into the Alter Markt. Excellent breakfast with cooked sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, beans and also a comprehensive continental buffet. The staff are really helpful and friendly. We hope to stay next time we visit.

Lovely room with everything we needed. Central, so close to all the major attractions and places to eat.

Top location, spotless, modern and great staff ! Only downside is the rooms are very cosy, no Tea/Coffee machine for wake up and wardrobe space is a little tight.

We had the best experience staying at CityClass am Dom! Heinzels Wintermarchen was right outside the hotel and we could smell the delicious, comforting scents of the market when we opened our window(s). We stayed in the Dom Cathedral Suite and it had the absolute best view. Please see the attached pictures, a view of the Cathedral right from the bed! The television spins around so you can watch from the bed or from the couch. The staff was lovely and helpful as well. We will absolutely book here again should we ever find our way back to Cologne.

I love this hotel. The rooms are spacious, clean and modern. The breakfast is incredible for €15 it’s a real bargain considering the choices of food available. Everyone who works at the hotel are so friendly, especially Lukas. He’s been great since we checked in. We’ll definitely be coming back to this hotel again, it’s in a great location for the Christmas markets with the nearest being opposite the entrance to the hotel.

Perfect location, close to the Dom, rooms very clean, bathroom in excelent condition, everything as described. Rooms are small, exactly for a bed and a small table, but I usually go in hotels only for the sleep, so it was perfect for me. If you want big rooms, then probably you'll have to search for something different. Staff very friendly and a very good breakfast. Also, for the persons which come by car you will get a discount for the parking which is at about 3 minutes walk. I would return anytime in the same location.

Super hospitable reception staff, especially Daniel. I stayed twice already in this Hotel, will definitely come again. For improvement, it would be good to have cattle or coffee maker in rooms. Good work, just keep the high standard
