This is another “I never write reviews, but I had to write this one” review. My main was good (I had the duck curry), however: - It took 30 minutes for the wine to be served, after talking to 3 different people - It took an additional 20 minutes for the second bottle of water to be served - My main course was finally served when I was sitting for one hour already Someone even asked us if we had already ordered (yes, my friend, half an our ago…), if the starters had been served (no), if we wanted another 3,25 euro bread basket (yes, but you took the plates away 10 minutes ago). It feels like it’s a hit or miss as some tables had a much quicker service, but I can’t recommend the experience given the expensive plates, poor service and noisy room.

I cannot recommend because poor quality, salad was old (picture) and service the worst I’ve seen. Also they have a lot of negative reviews and they don’t care. Here I explain with more details: It’s really expensive for the amount and quality finished food. The personal looks like they are not prepared to take over the orders, constantly forgetting our drink or food. We needed to be all time focusing on asking if they are going to bring it or they have forgotten again. The glass of wine took 45 minutes, main dish 1,5 hours after we said two times if they had forgotten our order. For our wine after asking the first time just the glass came…but no wine, we needed to ask again but to another waiter. We couldn’t focus on enjoying our dinner because we were more focused on asking the waiters. Just to add something positive…the tartar was good but the quinoa salad was not possible to highlight, not fresh (picture). I wish that this feedback it’s held in order to improve in future and get the best that I’m sure is possible and there are some potential. Finishing the review…they didn’t the bill and wanted to charge us for something we didn’t order, it’s really really chaotic service, the impression of the restaurant is that no one cares.

If I could, I would give 0 or negative stars. I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience was very disappointing. Service: Very poor. You better be extremely patient. Value: Terrible. You will pay a premium because this restaurant is associated with a famous chef. However, portions are tiny and Quality: Horrible. I am okay paying premium for good food, but this is not acceptable. My meat was barely cooked. The shrimp were like something reheated from being frozen. Finally, we were brave enough to communicate these issues to manager, but they are too arrogant to even care. Therefore, I hope this review will allow others to at least be aware of risk of patronizing this establishment.

Renowned bistro, pricey at €50+ for 3 courses. Despite the good service (optional 5% tip will be added to the bill), food is not outstanding. I loved the Hazelnut3 dessert, to be enjoyed by dipping your spoon and grabbing all the 3 layers. On the contrary, meagre and prego were average. In particular, the fish course lacked a decent sauce, it seemed a messy combo of cooked ingredients.

Sensational food and service in a relaxed but stylish setting. Well worth a visit for a special occasion or if you're in town. The prego roll was insane!

Delicious food services by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Everything even the bread course was meticulously planned and delicious. The Germain cocktail was perfect and any appetizers with honey and cheese is recommended. Definitely the best meal we had in Lisbon.

From appetizers to main dishes, they all tasted so good. We're a group of 4 adults and 4 kids and everyone had a great meal. I strongly recommend this place when you're in Lisbon and your budget allows. We're from Toronto and I can tell you that this place is way more reasonable that their peers in our hometown.

Great food! We enjoyed the baked cheese, seafood soup and black pork, all very tasty! Very busy all the time, may have to wait for a while for a table. Restaurant is quite small but it’s worth a visit.

If you want to experiment good food without the hassel of a Michelin restaurant, this is the place. Food is amazing but somewhat expensive. The restaurant is way too tight and gets noisy very quickly and not to very kid friendly (*in case of little kids or if you have a baby carriage). Also no terrace which is a pity in summer time. The staff seems a bit chaotic imo but I can't really complain like many, we were served within 10 minutes of ordering around 19:20 and we order a 2nd dish that took 20 minutes around 20:00, which is only normal due to the amount of people that came in. Now, please, fix the translations on your menu, it can be deceiving, specifically the croquettes which I thought it was made of (*not with) rice with a sort of spinach but then it Spanish and English it's specified its meat croquettes, please specify it in every language.

The food was reeeeally good! But I’m not giving them the 5 stars since we had to wait for a while even with a reservation! And then the food took quite a while too! We had the Cogumelos Risotto (amazing!) and the Moqueta, also amazing. The portions are great too! Don’t forget to ask for the house bread, and please try the cocktails, specially the Primo Basilico! As for dessert, we didn’t like any of the options (mostly fruity and with alcohol, not our favorite) so we didn’t ask for any. The service was good. Keep in mind that it is pricy too!

Outstanding. We turned up with no booking they sat us down quickly…the service was impeccable. The food was just as fantastic. We had the pork dish & the flakey cod. With the prego for dessert. I suggest you go. It was the best meal we’ve had in Lisbon.

I was worried about this place after making a reservation and seeing all the bad reviews. The chef is a big deal and has a couple of great restaurants in Lisbon. I think this is a restaurant to have more broad appeal and if you are looking for a Michelin experience this is not it. This restaurant is on an uninspiring street but in a good neighborhood. The vibe inside is sort of neutral, some funky lights. Kind of average nothing too aggressive or upsetting. The service was super fast. We got seated, got drinks, appetizers and a main, but skipped dessert and we done in 55 minutes. I thought the meal could have been laced a bit better but we were certainly not waiting around. The service was a little awkward. I’m not sure if it was because we spoke in English or of the servers are a bit young and inexperienced but they seemed uncomfortable and nervous. The woman who did bread service I thought it would be helpful if she would describe the sauces and butters she was putting down. Same with when she delivered dishes- while I ordered them I wasn’t sure which was what. The food wasn’t bad, but not memorable either. I got the Indian shrimp curry. I’d definitely skip this restaurant.

Value 4.8. In general 4.5. The biggest secret, their set lunch. 21.5 euros for starter, main, dessert, wine n coffee. We went with 3 so we were able to order a variety of dishes. The bread was delicious - obviously made in house. The shrimp starter was good albeit the portion was small. The pasta was pretty good and the portion size was big. The fritters were very good and with the accompanying rice, hit the spot. The set meal came with a drink so ofc we had wine (!). The meal ended with creme brulee and a strong coffee. A fantastic meal. Attentive service. Would return in a heartbeat. Visited Nov 2022.

Great dining experience. Everything we had was super tasty. The risotto with scallops was filling but not too heavy, loved the basil detail. The croquettes were very tasty and the sauce on was also delicious. I definitely recommend everyone. Servers are nice and kind. Also I might have gotten addicted to the thin cracker-like bread slices.

Great atmosphere. This restaurant is owned by Avillez, who has a bunch of restaurants around the city of Lisbon. This is one of his first ones opened and in my opinion one of his best. Tapas are perfectly portioned and for how good the food is, prices are reasonable. The egg and Portuguese sausage is one of the best dishes we had on our trip there.

I had the shrimp starter & pork entree. I’ve heard so much about Jose Avillez leading up to this Lisbon trip so I had very high expectations. It was in no means bad but I just felt like it wasn’t up to the hype. It was above average but not worth the $

A very good adresse of the chef Jose Avillez in Chiado to taste modern Portugal cuisine. The slow cooked pork with black beans, a touch of Brazilian cuisine, was delicious. The duck in curry sauce was the most flavorful dish that I've ever had. The hazelnut dessert was super delicious. The service is very good with perfect recommandations for both wine and food.

What a FANTASTIC lunch. Great service, the shrimp appetizer was one of the best dishes I’ve had in years; overall five stars. Pictured is Rh duck red curry and the meagre and shrimp moqueca.

Somehow I expected a bit more. Beside the food on the pictures we also had the rump steak with fried egg, rice and fries. The meat was very chewy. The beef steak tartare wasn’t tender and was missing salt and flavor. The prawns were on point and very good. All in one the food was okayish but nothing special.

As long-term travellers, this was a bit upmarket for us, but it was worth every euro. The service was very personable & attentive. The food, especially the seafood risotto, was all a very high standard. The espresso martini was just right. Loved the whole ding experience.

A good sign for a good meal is a crowded restaurant. We managed to grab the last four seats at the bar and we were hoping for some good local food. They did not disappoint. Wine selection was great, margaritas were amazing and the food was top notch. We ordered steak sandwich, the national burger with 100% angus beef and kimchi sauce, as well as the Portuguese fish and shrimp stew. All were excellent. Look at the pictures. Staff was very quick and helpful.

Food was amazing. Love the music & deco Service was outstanding. Highly recommend tuna tartar and Brazilian seafood stew. How’s homemade hot sauce was sooo good I would definitely come back here again when I visit Lisbon.

Absolutely amazing food from one of the greatest living chef’s in the world, Jose Avillez. The tuna tartare was tender, sizable, and nicely marinated with Asian flavors. For the main course, I was craving steak and it surpassed my expectations. Topped with local prosciutto and a complimenting mushroom Demi glaze, I was met with an abundance of flavor. The only drawback for the food was the actual cut of meat itself. Cooked to perfection. Great flavor. Just chewy and hard to cut. Perhaps this cut would be best braised or aged. The restaurant is a more calm, laid back vibe in comparison to Avillez’ Michelin star(s) restaurants, which was perfect for a solo traveler. Be sure to visit this spot. Don’t forget to get the Primo Basillico cocktail to really spice up the vibe!

I had the absolute best meal at Cantinho do Avillez! I walked in without a reservation on a Saturday at 9:30 and they couldn’t have been nicer to me! The bartender made me the best cocktail while I waited for my table… once I was sat the staff was so attentive and friendly… as woman dining alone I loved the conversation! The tuna tartar appetizer was incredible! I was craving meat after spending a week in Portugal eating only seafood so I had the veal.. wow! It was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! I wasn’t going to get desert but my fabulous waiter suggested the salted caramel desert and OMG!! I will Be back here every time I’m In Cascais!! Thank you for the memories!

Amazing food. Best dinner we had in Lisbon. Everything was unbelievable - even the bread. Would highly highly recommend. Brilliant you can book - unlike a lot of the more popular restaurants in Lisbon!

My husband and I made a reservation for 19:00 on a Friday -but due to a delay in our trip, we couldn’t make it at the planned time :) when we finally made it around 21:00 the waitress “Sara” was very attentive and helpful in finding us a place in the super busy restaurant; we enjoyed a nice dish of starters and their most famous rice as main course. The food is delicious and the staff is super friendly, would definitely recommend!

The staff was friendly and gave us great recommendations. The cheese with truffle olive oil was a good way to start the meal, crunchy in the bottom. The pig was very well seasoned and the codfish was served with a runny yolk egg, a delicious crumble and amazing olive oil spheres (that justified our visit). The pudding with raspberry ice cream and the "hazelnut 3" were both fantastic. The price made us think we were in Paris again but Avillez is very famous now, so it was ok for the experience.

Went in for a team dinner. Service took some time but the food was good. Tried beef croquettes in starters that just melted in mouth. And then ordered hamburger good too. I asked to convert the mocktail to cocktail adding vodka and surprisingly it tasted really nice. Only ask is to make the space more airy. I was hot the whole time.

So far the best restaurant we have been in Lisbon. Great cosy ambiance, attentive and helpful staff and indeed perfect food. Scallop risotto was the star of the table. Extraordinary. 10/10 Baked Nisa cheese with bacon was great. Do not forget to ask for the bread basket as an accompany. 8/10 Indian curry prawns with rice was good with nice texture. 8/10 Truffle mustard croqquette was a delish starter. 7/10 Will definitely be back to try their risotto. It will be nice to pair with Jose Avillez white house wine.

Wonderful meals, from starter over main course to dessert everything was perfect and delicious! Excellent tuna tartar, risotto and shrimp curry! Additional point for easy online table booking option. Would recommend anytime!

Food was delicious and ambiente was also nice! The service was not the best. They forgot about our main course so we had to wait quite a long time till we got it. After the main course it took 10 minutes till we got the dessert menu and after this 15 minutes till somebody came to ask for the dessert. We didn‘t take the dessert then - we asked for the bill as the service was really slow. In return for the not really good service they offered us the two glasses of wine we drunk - nice, but we had prefered a better service, a dessert and a glass of port wine to make the evening perfect. In general very good food, nice ambiente, service not satisfying. Don‘t know if we would come again.

Very good food, quick and efficient service. Recommend to take the shrimp appetizer as it was delicious. Additionally, the wine list is quite complete and not too expensive versus the market price of the wines. Recommend to book in advance to make sure they have a table available

A friend recommended this spot as one of her favorite Portuguese restaurants and it didn’t disappoint. Went with my wife and we both loved our experience here. I got the duck and my wife got the risotto, both were fantastic.

Last meal in Portugal. I love finishing on a high note. Great friendly service. Really good food for the price. Trust me it's worth going here.

We had a great time at this restaurant last night. We took advice from the waiter (cheese and croquetas appetizer, pork, beef, cod, and risotto entrees, and some wine, plus two desserts). This place is a bit more expensive than most restaurants in Portugal but it was totally worth it to go once. Would recommend!
