I
don’t
write
many
reviews.
The
connection
we
have
made
at
Hotel
Santiago
de
Alfama
goes
well
beyond
a
transactional
experience.
We
got
engaged
on
the
second
floor
over
the
Roman
steps.
The
owners,
Manuel
and
Heleen,
have
graciously
opened
the
doors
to
this
amazing
space
for
our
nuptials
and
will
be
an
integral
part
of
our
ceremony.
Some
readers
are
going
to
be
interested
in
the
rooms,
food,
ambience,
etc.
–
which
the
hotel
delivers
in
spades.
What
makes
this
place
so
very
special
and
an
environment
we
have
started
to
call
home
is
the
staff.
Having
been
in
the
country
for
~5
months,
and
as
we
have
traveled
Lisbon
and
the
surrounding
areas,
we
have
found
ourselves
in
a
few
travel
“situations”
–
broken
beds,
missed
flights,
separated
on
trains
(me
without
my
wallet
or
a
phone,
sheesh!)
and
the
hotel
has
always
graciously
opened
their
doors
and
welcomed
us
back
as
family
to
regroup,
recharge
and
get
recalibrated.
There
are
so
many
wonderful
people
here.
I
apologize
in
advance
for
missing
anybody,
but
Ines,
Lana,
Catarina,
Louis,
Bella,
Bruno,
Gisela,
Kevin,
Kusum,
Denys
and
those
working
in
the
kitchen
delivering
fantastic
dishes
are
some
of
the
most
beautiful
people
we
now
count
as
friends.
The
space
itself
while
quaint
is
huge
on
ambience.
From
the
moment
you
walk
in
you’ll
appreciate
that
you
are
in
a
unique
and
special
spot.
Dating
back
to
the
15th
century…having
been
a
palace
then
tuna
can
factory
and
a
shirt
manufacture
it
has
retained
its
architectural
roots
while
adding
modern
touches.
The
artwork
is
absolutely
amazing
–
many
originals
and
a
handful
of
photos
shot
by
Manuel…but
don’t
ask…nothing
is
for
sale
[smile!]
I’ve
penned
more
words
than
maybe
necessary
or
what
I
had
intended
but
I
could
wax
on
for
even
a
bit
more
about
how
special
this
place
is.
Selfishly,
I
should
probably
have
written
this
is
a
terrible
place
to
stay
[which
is
a
flat
out
lie]
but
in
some
ways
I’d
like
to
keep
it
a
bit
of
a
secret
so
we
can
keep
coming
back
“home.”
Sit
at
the
bar
and
let
Bruno
work
his
magic,
ask
for
the
tuna
pate,
seep
in
the
artwork,
listen
to
Manuel’s
carefully
crafted
soundtrack,
put
down
your
phone
and
reflect
on
what’s
important
in
life
–
love,
friendship,
happiness
and
those
small
moments
where
you
can
connect
with
what’s
most
meaningful
to
you.
Hotel
Santiago
de
Alfama
will
ALWAYS
hold
a
very
special
place
in
our
hearts.
Maybe
for
you
as
well.
