BED BUGS. DO NOT STAY HERE. Our room was infested with bed bugs. I was bitten over night and on the second morning I saw a number of bed bugs on the walls and skirting boards of the room. The owner refunded our stay while explaining that this was a favour (not legally required) and that bed bugs are common in hotels. Firstly, it doesn't feel like much of a favour. We spent the following days trying to clean all our belongings and have had to throw out our backpacks and a couple of jumpers and other items which could not withstand being washed at sufficiently high temperatures. This equates to hundreds of pounds that we've lost, not to mention our time. Secondly, I've travelled for 20 years across Europe, Latin America and Asia and have stayed in all types of accommodation. I have never encountered bed bugs before. This hostel just isn't prepared to take the necessary measures to deal with the problem and are happy for their guests to risk taking an infestation home with them. If you look on google reviews and other websites you will find plenty of reviews that show this is a long term problem.

Very great hostel. The dorm is very spacious with a high ceiling. The bathrooms are clean and tidy. As a plus there is free coffee!

Great hostel in Lisbon! Really clean and the people there are super nice. It's in a good spot, close to everything. I felt comfy and met cool folks. I totally recommend staying here if you're visiting Lisbon!

I was supposed to do a self check in… they gave me the building code and said the keys were hidden at the reception desk… couldn’t find the keys ANYWHERE so I had to last minute book alternative accommodation at a much higher price. Disappointed. Edit: just responding to the owners wildly inappropriate response to me… you absolutely were not waiting for me, even messaged me the next morning asking if I “found the keys” so I’m confused why you are lying. I was there at 11pm, phone called 5 times in a row with no answer, the keys were nowhere to be seen as I wrote. You don’t need to “blacklist” me as I would never return to this hotel with terrible customer service. Your childish reply to my review speaks volumes & I already successfully reported you to booking.com after you tried charging me €50 for being a “no show” …LOL!

Bitten by bed bugs here, found them on my bed curtain and coming out of the floorboards. Edit to the response from the hostel: There are old detailed reviews dating back from 2019 on other sites saying the building is infested with bed bugs and it’s difficult to control due to the building containing a lot of wood. After travelling for the last 11 months through Asia and Europe, this is the first encounter of bed bugs we have had. Budget accommodation doesn’t mean bed bugs are a given. We notified the staff as soon as we noticed all the bites and it didn’t come as a surprise when we did. The staff were definitely kind enough to offer a refund and put our clothes in the dryer, however while we were waiting for our clothes in the dryer we saw the staff strip our beds and remake them ready for the next guests. This is extremely deceitful as I’m sure future guests aren’t notified and there were also other people staying in our dorm who were out at the time that weren’t evacuated or notified by staff that their belongings may have bed bugs (we were in contact with them). This really tainted our stay in Lisbon.

We really love the place. The rooms are big and beds are comfortable. Everything was clean. Its was also very quite. Wifi works well. Room was an equipped with a desk, so it was also nice to work from there. We would definitely come back to this place in Lisbon.

Unfortunately the stay at the hostel was just avarage. The staff wasn't very friendly, the kitchen was way too small and bad equipped. There was only one fridge for the whole hostel and it was super dirty and full with bad food. The room was okay. We booked a private room with a private balcony. It's not allowed to smoke outside and there's a 750€ fine if you do but it didn't say it anywhere when you book the room. Would've been nice to know that in advance. Also the room was moldy. Wasn't a nice experience. The location of the hostel is great though. Bus and metro stops are really close and nice bars and restaurants in walking distance.

We attended a traditional Portuguese tasting menu at the hostel booked through AirBnb and we loved it. Chef Mateus Cooked a selection of delicious meals sourced from small producers. We felt comfortable during the all evening and the owner made us feel very welcome and was attentive to each guest needs. The hostel has a contemporary look and is very spacious. Would come again

Such a nice place, good location, easy and clear to access, the kitchen is the best supplied of any hostel I've been to, everything was clean and organized. There are only four bathrooms but they're private which is really nice, showers are great, with free soap. The staff is super kind, helpful, and professional, they even mailed me some jewelry I forgot. Very nice atmosphere overall, with a reasonable price for the dorms. :)

It is one of the best hostels I have been to in Europe . Settle in a beautiful old building where old kitchen and bathroom are giving the vibe of old times and show a traditional style of a place . Big common area where you can hung out or wait for your plane after checking out. Sheets and towels are fresh and white lime in a good hotel. Good central location next to metro Great people in the reception. I loved it .

Hahahahaha, are you serious?? :D I understand that you are uneducated, but are you also a liar? :D Guys, they had evacuated everyone when we were leaving the hostel. The workers wore masks and spraying was started. If there were no other complaints, why did you evacuate the entire hostel? Everyone we stayed the night complained about. And you know what's the funniest? The people working for you said "ok let's help you but please don't tell anyone" because we were the first to complain. :D Since we read the comments when we first entered the hostel, and we paid, "there is an insect problem here, is it still there?" we said. You said, "This was a terrible situation, but we've got it now, you can be sure". Why are you lying now? Everyone was complaining about it, and that's why you took people out early in the morning. Instead of blaming us, go clean up those bugs. :) And guys, read not only my comment but also the other "bug" comments below. You can't escape the truth by lying. Because your lies are not as strong as your bugs. :))))))

Very friendly, safe and lovely hostel. We had the large double room, the bed was very comfortable and the room was massive. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Superb location, near to Anjos metro station and the tram 28 so getting around and into the main sites was easy. The local neighbourhood had good bars and restaurants as well.

The beds weren't clean anyway, but worst of all we got bitten by bedbugs at night. I had an allergic reaction, he said that you can go to the pharmacy when i show the owner of the hostel the allergic reaction. There was a drug cost of 20 euros because of my bugs allergie. They did not refund our accommodation money or the pharmacy money. Booking reviews can be deceiving, if you look at google reviews, you can see much more realistic reviews. They have been having this problem for almost months and they never really disinfect it.

This is probably one of the nicest apartments I've stayed in Europe. Make yourself comfortable in a beautiful old house where the old kitchen and bathroom give the energy of the past and show the style of the place that used to be. A great place where you can sit or sit your flight after watching. The bed linen and towels are fresh and white in the beautiful hostel. Great focal point near the metro Special people in the party. I love it

Staff was kind and helpful but the place would need to be closed for at least a couple days to get rid of the severe bed bugs infestation. The situation is very bad, I have spent a week there as I could not afford any other accomodation, during this week I have been bitten around 50-60 times. Every other guest complained about the same problem. I also had to disinfect all my clothes and luggages which turned out being a pretty expensive operation. I finally managed to leave earlier and they actually refunded the nights in which I did not sleep, of course I still had to pay for the nights in which I "slept" there, I did not receive any compensation for the damages brought by the numerous bites. I'm not leaving one star only because they actually did refund the nights in which I did not sleep there (even tho, due to the gravity of the situation, a full refund would have been appreciated, also to cover the expenses I had to encounter to disinfect my belongings) and some of the people working there (particularly the lady who does the cleaning) have been particularly understanding and helpful. However, shame to the owner for clearly knowing about this and still keeping the place open. Bed bugs can and do travel from one room to the other and they can hide everywhere. Close it down until you get it 100% disinfected.

Spent a week there in the shared dorm room. The first night I had the entire room for myself, the rest of the nights I shared it with up to 8 other guests. Nevertheless, I was able to sleep reasonably well. The room as well as the kitchen and bathrooms were cleaned regularly. The staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, my cell phone charger was stolen from the socket. Therefore, I highly recommend always storing every little thing in the lockers provided (even if they are just improvised lockable Kallax-shelves from IKEA). The room was at the backside of the hostel, so it was not particularly noisy which allowed us to sleep with open balcony doors. The stay was overall very pleasant, but nothing special.

Incredible people, super friendly and nice! The room i stayed was super cozy and the bed super comfy. The location is excellent cause you can go everywhere in a couple of minutes. On top of that they offer this super nice culinary experience i took part of where the food was excellent and the service impecable too. I will repeat it any time soon. Big bravo for the chef!!

We enjoyed a very special evening arranged by family members. A private dinner for 10 a delicious Portuguese tasting menu. The decor was sublime, food exquisite, chefs perfect.

The hostel is at a decent location and is pretty well priced. It's a great place to meet people, although it would have been even better if the common area was a bit larger. They also offer a 7 course authentic home cooked Portuguese dinner on the weekends for only €25 which I would highly recommend!

Such a cute place. The vibe is mature and quiet which is perfect for people who are looking to rest in between walking the city. Conviniet for small families in the rooms, or solo/couple guests in the dorms. The equipment is basic but we'll maintained and clean. Great

Great hostel with beautiful rooms and excellent location in Lisbon. Plenty shops and transport nearby, and just 20 minutes walk to the river and tourist areas. The staff member, Luis is fantastic - super friendly, helpful and keeps the place perfectly clean every day.

Inside of the hostel kitchen, bedroom, bathroom overall is beautiful decorations & it's located in 86 3º esqº, Avenida Almirante Reis, 1150-021 Lisboa, Portugal. It's too much clean. You feel like natural environment and more relaxing inside of the hostel. By the way their staff are friendly & too collaborate. There has good hospitality. Ovarall Everything has perfectly organized there as you like. So i appreciate it & highly recommended it to others.

The place is well organized and decorated, quit beautiful. The room I stay had a beautiful terrace. The kitchen is well equipped and common area is clean. The owner is nice, he even treat us homemade pancakes. But the reason I gave this rating is because of bed bugs. I got bite a lot, I found around 30 bite on my skin at the day I left this hostel. I was not aware of it and thought it was mosquito at first two days. It was my worst memory in Portugal since it keep me itchy for two weeks and I was afraid to bring them home. Apart from that, the hostel located at 4th floor but the elevator is broken. I got stuck inside one time and luckily I can connect the wifi from upstairs and got rescue from them. But still not working after they rescue me, so I never taken that again. Another thing is some of the people in room talk loud even at night time, which is very annoying.

We liked the view from the room and the staff were all very friendly. The bathrooms were kept clean most of the time so for a hostel, it had one of the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen. The location was perfect as the Metro was just downstairs. Many shops and supermarkets around the area and less than 30 min walk to the river. Checking in was easy as we received instructions before we arrived and it was easy as we found the room key at the reception counter. In general, it's a hostel so do not expect hotel level. For hostel standards, it is not too bad. What we didn't like: Firstly, the mattress: We paid more than 500 euros for 1 week stay in the deluxe room only to find out that the double bed is in fact 2 single worn out mattresses joined together. The middle of the bed was then an empty space where you can't sleep and it made both our sleep almost impossible. After 1 week, we both have horrible back pain. I suggest that the owner invests in a double mattress before advertising it as a "deluxe" room. Secondly: the kitchen could use some cleaning. The floor was always cleaned but the drawers/cutlery were too greasy so if you care about hygiene, you will not use it. And lastly, the room was on the main road so everyone who said it's too loud, I can confirm that as the walls are pretty thin and the street is very busy all night. You can also feel the Tram shaking the room so if you are a light sleeper, this room is not for your. The other rooms facing the other side may be.

Clean rooms, hospitality of the staff. Also the greatest cooking experience I have had. The Chef is really passionate and we got the chance to get to know the tastes of Portugal. Despite the majority of meat lovers, the Chef was really successful in preparing vegan and vegetarian versions of dishes. Love it!

I've been to several hostels in Lisbon during my last stays and I can say that the Ambiente Hostel satisfied my needs in many ways: great located nearby the airport and the hip area around Anjos; big rooms with high ceilings that allows to have lots of space, even it is on a main street it was calma during the night due to good window isolation, everything very clean, spacious, comfortable with respectful guests. I am happy to come back.
