Quite extraordinary. The total opposite of a standard hotel. The house is over 400 years old, co owned by one of the original family's descendants, and renovated during the pandemic. Free wine from oak barrels in the former carriage house upon arrival, beautifully appointed salon with a piano player, breakfast buffet set in the original kitchen area. Rooms are very special. A unique experience to stay here!

My wife and I were so so impressed with this place. The staff were so friendly and accomodating from start to finish. We had a nice bathroom, great view from our balcony and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Apparently the hotel was only re-opened about a month ago after major renovations so everything is new. And wow was it an experience to behold! The whole hotel was both interesting and captivating, stimulating the senses. Descending down the beautiful staircase to the grand breakfast rooms with a beautiful spread of food, greeted by warm, friendly faces of the servers and beautiful piano playing in the background, my wife said she felt like a queen! We only just checked out today and have already agreed that the next time we come to Lisbon (whenever that is) this is where we’ll be staying!

Would stay here again! The room was quaint and charming. The breakfast included was extensive and we enjoyed the piano and violin players every morning. Lots of cool spaces to explore or sit and enjoy a coffee or wine. The doormen were very nice! In an excellent central location.

I could not love this hotel more, and honestly, I just kept asking myself, "What is this place and how were we so lucky to find it?" The best thing about the hotel is their beautiful staff, but all the rest of it is nothing short of delightful. Our room, the delicious breakfast and beautiful breakfast room, the wine in the evening with olives and cheeses, oh and also the beautiful spa tub we enjoyed. This place was easily the highlight of our trip to Portugal and Spain. The location is also so good. I have fallen in love with Lisbon...I know you will too!

I absolutely loved the hotel. The room was amazing and the breakfast was better than expected. The staff was super helpful and nice. When I checked in, the person who was on duty escorted me to my room so I would have all the information. First time this has happened. The location was excellent, close to very nice restaurants and shops, everything in walking distance. The breakfast was simply the best I've had and the breakfast room was like a palace. Just loved it. The spa is nice and the message was good :)

I stayed at Palácio das Especiarias with my fiancé for a quick 24 hour layover in Lisboa. All the staff is super attentive from the moment you enter into the property. I absolutely loved the small details of the entire place. The beds were comfy, breakfast was delicious, and room was fantastic. Cannot wait to come back (for a longer time!) soon. ❤️ Obrigato to all the staff.

This was perhaps the best hotel we’ve experienced in during our travels abroad (and we’ve experienced plenty). The hotel is just beautifully renovated but still maintains all of its historical charm, the attention to detail throughout the building is impressive. It’s perhaps one of those rare occasions where the hotel itself is part of the experience. Our room was palatial, the staff were all very kind, friendly and helpful. We did the Fado night, which we highly recommend. We also had a couples massage and then relaxed in their jacuzzi pool. We can’t wait to return.

Great service, rooms, and location! This hotel was so much nicer than expected based on great price! The location is great, beautiful cozy rooms and friendly service. I highly recommend booking airport transportation through them, it cost more than an uber (30 euros) but totally worth it. The driver was great and gave a great tour and history of the town as we were going to the airport. He even carried my bags all the way to security and waited until I got through in case of any issues. Highly recommend!!

This is an exceptional hotel in every way. It is authentic, well located, comfortable - with incredible attention to the smallest detail. A team of friendly staff, trained very well. Don't bother looking elsewhere. This is the hotel you're trying to 'find' for precious downtime and well earned holidays. You will not regret your choice. It well exceeded our expectations. If you are a coffee lover, head to The Folks coffee shop for excellent specialty coffee and delightful food. Enjoy this great city.

Cannot recommend this hotel enough. Beautiful interior and classy rooms. Standard room not very big but its fine. Location is perfect and like others mentioned the breakfast is a treat. Beautiful piano and violin music makes it very special.

I have no words to describe this place. If I could give 100 stars I would. From the moment we entered the main door, we were greeted by a staff with a huge smile. Smooth check in, room was spotless, great size and comfortable bed. Breakfast was superb, with a pianist playing whilst we enjoyed the food. Location was amazing, near everything we needed. My wife and I had a great time and we will definitely recommend this place.

The best hotel! Vintage and cozy! I’ve never seen like it! The room was clean and the location was perfect with a walking distance to most the attractions. The breakfast was good and variable. However, it is a bit noisy at night so if you are a light sleeper it may not work for you😅

This hotel was a highlight of our trip! Looked up quirky and that’s what we got plus amazing staff especially Carla at reception! Breakfast has popular/trending music on harp and piano in a fantastic room!

Outstanding stay at the Palacio ... Its rare to experience a hotel with such heart and soul, rooted in genuine service and attention to detail as we experienced here. We loved every second ..gorgeous room, dining, immaculate restoration of the property but its the welcome that will bring us back. Both Carlas at desk and dining room were so lovely, Saul at the main door and all the team members whose names we did not catch we thank you especially the gentleman on the door on my last morning who gave me a big hug as I said a teary farewell to my sister on the hotel steps ! Cant wait to return.

You wont find anything better than this hotel in Lisbon. From location to decoration, from room comfort to food quality, everything is outstanding! Really worth it! Congrats to the admin and the awesome service

It was a short one night stop on our way to London. It could have been unremarkable as we spent very little time in our room or even the property. But the staff (who seem to have fun together and enjoy their work) we're friendly, helpful and attentive. Our room was ornate and colourful with enough space for lots of luggage. Bathroom/shower quite small but functional. Big shout out to Bruno who drove us to the airport , unloaded our bags , came into the terminal , helped us check in and stood waving goodbye as we passed through to security! And on the drive, gave us an interesting brief history lesson. Way better option and price wise similar to getting dumped at the curb by an Uber!

Beautiful hotel and very friendly staff! Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience at the spa, so a lower review. My sister and I both got lymphatic drainage massages and had very different experiences depending on the masseuse. Would recommend the hotel, but not the spa services.

This hotel is amazing. The breakfast every morning is extensive. The views from the rooms and breakfast area are stunning. You find something new to look at decor wise every time you walk downstairs. The spa is nice and the outdoor area too. This is the best hotel! Plus someone seems to always playing the piano, entrancing your walk down the stairs. They have elevators too.

Poor service. Indifferent staff. My wife and I were given a room with two very cramped beds and no windows. For a room with one bed asked to pay extra 70 euros. We definitely chose one large bed when booking. They turned the situation that we booked the cheapest room in order to upgrade to a larger room for free. I am not that kind of person. I just didn't want to sleep in separate beds with my wife. We spent the night and decided not to continue our stay in this hotel. I do not recommend. It is better not to spoil the impression of the city and people of Lisbon.

This is a very special place. It’s centrally located for accessing the main areas of the city to visit by foot. The room was beautifully prepared and comfortable, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly, and the breakfasts were extensive and top-notch. Would stay here again without question.

A beautiful interior, ornate and classical. The staff was the kindest I’ve ever experienced. Every morning at the breakfast they had professional musicians creating a warm atmosphere. Remarkable and well worth the price!

This is a wonderful hotel. A hotel is full of history. The staff is great. Samara in the breakfast room was so friendly and very attentive. Allen in the bar and Saul at the front door are very friendly and helpful. Patricia at the front desk is a friend. We return every year. This is one of best in Lisbon. This was our seventh time at Palacio das Especiarias.

This hotel was absolutely lovely. The staff were so welcoming, helpful and kind upon arrival. The hotel was so beautiful and we felt like royalty. The spa and sauna was relaxing and much needed after a long day of walking the Portugal streets. The breakfast was wonderful as well, with so many different options. Shoutout to Guilherme A. for having a huge smile on his face and for being friendly and taking care of our luggage. Our only regret, it that we wish we could’ve stayed at this hotel longer.

If you can afford the price, stop looking - you have found the ideal hotel. It is rather like staying in the grand home of a wealthy absent friend. The hotel has not tried to squeeze bedrooms into every possible space, but instead permits the guest space in several decadent day rooms. A beautiful garden, an investment in live music to grace the hallways, and fantastic Brazilian staff make for a wonderful stay. It even has a small chapel for those inclined. Thank you.

Beautifully restored home, turned into a lovely hotel. Felt like we experienced a slice of Portugal’s rich history. Great staff (especially Allan). Delicious breakfast, with a wonderful variety of dishes to choose from. Amazing location in the heart of Lisbon.

  • 5/5 David C. 1 year ago on Google
The setting was beautiful and the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Anna was a gracious hostess and all the other staff provided fine support and services. On our first night, we chose to stay in the hotel for dinner and a Fado performance, which was a wonderful choice as jet-lagged new arrivals, as the singing was beautiful and the food was excellent. Palacio is well located to walk to a host of sites (although as most visitors soon learn walking in Lisbon is a challenge with the many hills). All in all a wonderful experience and a setting that I would recommend without hesitation.

I stayed here in June 2022 and had an amazing stay. From the time we arrived the staff was incredibly friendly. The building was amazing and beautiful. The breakfast was also fantastic, fresh and accommodating. Just an overall excellent experience. Would 100% stay again.

Great place. Overall experience is nice, service is warm, breakfast is great and live piano music accompanied. Amenities are authentic, this is an old hotel, so expect things to work accordingly. It has its charm. We definitely enjoyed it.

The staff here are incredible. So warm, welcoming - they really make your stay great. Lost a star because of cleaners and gym. Didn't seem to do a great job of cleaning. We stayed over a week and they didn't give an extra toilet roll, had to go and take some from the communal one. The gym here is amazing. Easily the best I've seen in a hotel. The facilities are excellent, you can really train here with multiple machines, two racks and a plethora of equipment. The difficulty is with booking it's use. There isn't a very good system of booking. The hotel have to phone the trainers who might not be available at the time to let the hotel know if they are using the space or not. (The gym is so good personal trainers use it for their clients) A simple sheet of paper would solve this problem if a spreadsheet is too technical! All in all I'd really recommend a stay here. Perfect location, really quaint historic building, delicious breakfast and incredible staff.

I am giving this place a 5 star because it is unique. I would remove a star as some of the (bath)rooms need a bit refurbishing or say there is no safe in the room. But ... they are easily gaining the star back for the overall ambiance, the excellent breakfast, the music at breakfast, the sweets, the location, in short for just being a different hotel than all the rest.

If anybody is trying to find good deals for hotels visit HotelBuIIy. com booked a hotel on there and they had the best rates anywhere! Fabulous hotel in great location. Rooms spacious. Old building has bags of charm. Staff brilliant. Breakfast great and juice / water / cake and fruit complimentary all day. Close to main metro for all routes and on tram 28, tourist tram, route. Could find no fault. Will definitely book again.

Charming place if you want something a bit different. We ended up booking a room that is in basement level opening to a small courtyard, with no windows and limited light. Coming from uk , that is least I wanted to have. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us in another rooms, so ended up in 4 rooms over 5 nights. Is it a perfect hotel? Perhaps not at every level, but what they provide definitely is. From arrival, to leave they are very helpful. Gym is amazingly equipped (need to book in advance). Breakfast is good, lots of cake, even served in kitchen where it's made, giving a wonderful homely feel to it. Leftover cakes thrn served all day to eat. Lots of lovely common rooms to spend time in, even real fire. The building is an adventure to discover. Beds are comfy, each room has its charms and quirkiness. Small doors, old light switches, even a very old common bathroom just off dining area with and old flush knob. Location is perfect. This place just feels nice and special which definitely worth 5 stars. Everything else just adds to the charm.

My favorite hotel do far! It has a library, a fireplace, live piano music, and few rooms where they serve a royal breakfast! There is also a free sauna and póol downstairs. Very nice staff, central location, and romantic vibes!

My jaw dropped when I walked into this palace. They have great costumer service. All the clerk's are dressed to impress and are very professional. We had a lovely room facing the ocean. It's an impressive building which is over 400 years old. You feel like the rich and famous while dining inside until you enter your room. I gave 4 stars for these reasons. First off the walls are super thin so you often can hear water pipes and people singing in the shower next to your flat. Second the interior window shutter lock is broken so you feel a bit locked up. Third the stair well is quite dangerous. Super narrow and made from low quality wood. The tiles and shower are really run down. There isn't a phone in the room so that's a bit of a pain if you need to get in touch with reception. Also note to anyone leaving anything on the balcony is to bring it inside. They don't have dry cleaning facilities on site and the guy at the front desk gave me a bit of a rude remark after I told him about my problem. He was able to suggest a place in the end. The free breakfast was decent. Some things were top notch others were rubbish. The coffee and milk were awful. They like to give cake for breakfast which is a bit weird. Suppose you got a sweet tooth this place is up your alley.

I feel like I have stepped back in time. This place is amazing. Beautiful breakfast in a fabulous room overlooking the water in a distance. I loved my room with the canopy bed and freestanding bathtub. Ana at reception was very gracious and welcoming. It arrived from my international flight hours before check-in time but Ana made me feel welcome. Invited me to go upstairs to a wonderful breakfast and had my room ready within an hour. Later I discovered many shops and restaurants in this area within minutes of walking. I will definitely stay here again. This is such a great location.

We had to book a last minute hotel in Lisboa for a 22 hour layover. This hotel exceeded all of our expectations. The rooms are beautiful and really transport you to another time; the facilities are lovely; breakfast was delicious and we were able to dine in one of the beautiful breakfast rooms. The staff was very attentive: our stay started with a tour of the palace and some history as well. We were able to leave our bags after check out to go and see some of the city before headed to catch out flight. The location is perfect with two tram stops located a few steps away along with the Metro stop right down the street. When we visit Lisboa again, we will absolutely be staying here! Bravo to the staff! You made us feel so welcomed and at home.

I felt like a princess in this place, high ceilings and gorgeous interiors. Piano for breakfast and a lot of light from big windows. I had to wait for check-in by 4-30pm as they had a lot of guests and the room was not ready on time. Everything else was really enjoyable.

This hotel was excellent in every way! Our room was on the ground floor and looked out onto a small courtyard which was beautifully decorated and lovely to relax in during the evening. The breakfast is served inside a historic part of the palace with live piano music accompanying the meal - the ambience is so charming. Every single staff member we countered was also incredibly friendly and helpful. Special mention to Antonio, who was very attentive and took care of us in the courtyard (and even offered us a free tasting of port wine!), as well as Carla, who chased us down the street as we left to let us know that we forgot some clothing in our room! Thank you! We were very pleased with the service overall at this place - it reminded us why hotels are superior to AirBNBs. Only stayed for one night but wish it was longer!

We stayed at the Palace for 5 nights in August. It is an oasis of calm in the busy city. The building is beautiful, honestly I can’t overstate it. Far and away the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The room was well-appointed, nicely designed. We stayed on the 3rd floor in a room with two windows and a view over the city towards the river. Everything was clean and well looked after. The temperature control in our shower took some finesse but that’s the catch of old plumbing. That’s literally the only imperfection I can think of. The staff are wonderful. Friendly and attentive but in a relaxed way. If you’re looking for a special place in a central location from which to explore Lisbon, just do it. You won’t regret it.

A lovely city and a perfect place to stay! The hotel is a former residence of a wealthy family . Amazing! You will feel like you have stepped back in time with all the convinces of the 20th century ;) the breakfast is set up in 3 rooms and completely has everything you can image for a lovely breakfast to fuel your for your day. All this is only exceeded by the amazing staff!! If you don’t have it they make it happen.. each room is different so be sure to talk to the staff and find your perfect fit.. we will be back ❤️ treat yourself.. it’s a fabulous place !

Great location in the heart of Lisbon; very walkable to many of the best sights in the city. Also, the hotel itself was very beautiful with a lot of historic charm. My husband and I had a great stay here! They also have a little spa with a jacuzzi and sauna that you can use for free.

We LOVED this historic and artful hotel! It is so beautifully crafted, you can't take enough pictures. The piano playing at breakfast is a really special touch. When the piano player found out we're South African, he played Miriam Makeba for us. The staff are so lovely and warm, they made us feel like family.

If you are traveling to Lisbon, I highly recommend this hotel! It was a stunner and there were many great food and drink options within walking distance. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff are very attentive. I was traveling with a foot fracture and they were very accommodating and helpful. So friendly. The breakfast is incredible- basically four rooms set up with different options prepared fresh and there was a pianist playing and sometimes a violinist as well. The hotel has fado nights you can pay for that include a dinner menu as well, which is really neat. In addition, there is a spa in the basement of the hotel. The massage was very affordable and was perfect after long travels.

Lucky hotel with huge rooms, was a bit noisy at night but the bed was so good so I fall asleep very fast. Breakfast is amazing, a lot of choices, nice interior, live piano music. It cost like 10€ additionally. There is nice spa with a small inside pool, but the best is the massage treatments 😻

Great hotel at a great location. The ambiance is very colonial and kind of romantic. I stayed in room Diamente 1 and enjoyed my stayed. Great option to consider if you want to stay in Bairro Alto and want to be close to all the restaurants and bar. The highlight of my stay was the live piano and violin music during breakfast. Such a classy way to start the day!

They extended one year voucher as initially planned up to 2 years without asking for client permission and agreement but doing that on their own benefits without caring of my requests. Very low customer service - they tried to keep on ignoring my requests and I had to push a lot before I could receive answers (never accomplished)! * Please avoid to deal with them.

We stayed at this amazing hotel for long weekend in January - I really can’t recommend it enough, it’s so, so good! The hotel itself is a converted palace, so to begin with you have the foundation of an extremely special experience. What really makes it fantastic though, is the staff and their attitudes. I’ve never met kinder, more considerate people. Everything had been thought of, and no problem was too small for them to help with - they were truly incredible! Breakfast was a highlight (and particularly the live music it was served with), but also the location of the hotel in the Chiado made it perfect to explore the city. If there was an option for more than five stars I would give it - this was a perfect experience!
