What a lovely museum! This hidden gem is nestled in an urban oasis. The entrance fee is affordable, and it wasn’t too crowded. Granted, we visited mid-week, so perhaps the weekends are busier. The museum houses the private collection of a rich oil guy, and while I think many of the priceless artifacts from around the world should be returned to their places of origin, I must admit that it was incredibly cool to meander through the exquisitely-curated rooms and marvel at the wonders that await. I appreciated that each object was allowed to shine, and the exhibits weren’t overcrowded. Each item has its own space to breathe. The museum takes about an hour to go through if you take your time, and I think it’s an excellent size. My favorite parts were the Turkish plates, European impressionist paintings, jewelry room at the end, and the Egyptian room. The gift shop felt overpriced and underwhelming, but the cafe was very cute.

Fantastic museum with an excellent and varied collection. The exhibits are clearly labelled and very spacious, and when we went mid-week, there weren't any crowds. There are even a few heavy hitters, with some paintings by Monet and Renoir on display, but even without those, there are many beautiful and interesting pieces. Sunday after 2pm, entry is free, but if that doesn't work for your schedule as it didn't for us, it was still very much worth the modest entrance fee.

A MUST when visiting Lisbon. Not only we were able to enjoy an impeccably curated Giacometti exhibit, but the museum has one of the most beautiful inviting gardens I’ve ever been to. There is a cafe where you can order bites and drinks and you can sit outside in the terrace or in the grass enjoying nature. The permanent collection boasts an impressive collection for those who appreciate art. Make sure to check their schedule online for we missed a concert that was sold out the day we visited. I am sure the space offers special events worth going.

Staff not very helpful. Bought tickets and went to look around but told I needed more tickets to see exhibition. Looked around and hoped to see some of the art works. I did not know there was an app did not get any information on free tours. Just felt there was more to see but missed information. I am not sure if there was any other art in the other building and no one to ask

What a collection and everything is so well displayed. I can say honestly it was one of the most enjoyable museums I have visited. Although we did not have the personal guide, I did follow a couple who were being provided with that service, and it sounded an incredible in-depth explanation of the history surrounding the objects. If you visit Lisbon, visit this museum!

A very nice and expansive museum. The collection has works from masters such as Degas, Renoir, Monet and more. Additionally there are impressive ancient artifacts from Egypt, the Middle East, and Asia. It's a great collection that even includes rare furniture and jewelry. What's most impressive is how the museum displays everything. Nothing is crowded. Everything has space and balance. I recommend buying the All Inclusive ticket which is 14 Euros a person so that the entire museum can be explored but there are smaller price points if you are on a budget or don't have time to see everything.

A great place to spend time in the city when it's very hot outside. Every Sunday admission is free until 14.00 (it is better to check on the official website of the museum). The museum is surrounded by a beautiful park where the ducks roam. The museum has a huge collection of exhibits. Most of all I liked the collection dedicated to oriental ceramics. There is also a huge collection of paintings, sculptures and ancient tiles.

Wonderful museum and gardens. The museum itself is a beautiful cascading modernist concrete building that nestled into the landscape and responds well to its climate and context. The collection is impressive and varied with a few incomparable works by master artists. The gardens host a campus of buildings and activities amid cozy and well considered gardens. Part of the museum is currently under renovation

One of the best museums I've been to. Reminded me of a mini-MET. Collection is varied and includes coins from the early Greeks and 18th century furniture. Kept my attention for a long time. Places to sit and relax while moving through the space. Highly recommend a visit!

What an amazing collection! Wasn't too sure how good a place it would be.. but it turned out to be one of the best museum I have ever visited. And what is even more astonishing is that it's all from the private collection of Gulbenkain. And each item is exquisite and intact. They have displaced the main exhibit as from Japan& China, Islamic, European 15-17th century and so so. And the jewellery collection is just wow. The museum building is in a wonderfully designed garden.. so in tune with nature. The also have a good cafe in the museum. Just wish i would have visited them on my first days in Lisbon and not on the last day there.

Really nice exhibitions and the garden is to dream for. It is the best garden I have seen in Lisbon so far, I always dream of the next time I will go there. So many places where you can enjoy the views, the ducks and the landscape in general. I love it 💗🌾🦆

A wonderful museum located in a section of Lisbon away from most of the busy tourist spots. You can explore the park that surrounds the museum which we found very relaxing on a Saturday morning. The gallery itself is very well done providing a walking history of art through their collection. With such a varied assortment of fine art including some from grandmasters, I believe most would find the museum well worth their time.

If you are under 30 years old you can get a 50% discount on you ticket. I got the full experience which included the contemporary museum, Japanese exhibit and Modern art museum. The contemporary museum was interesting with large and small pieces as well as video displays. Not as big as I expected but great nonetheless. The Japanese exhibit hold pieces of art from around 500 years of history which was neat to see. Most of the exhibit is on wood sheets. It a neat exhibit that showcases art you won’t see anywhere else. I was particularly excited to the modern art museum however after walking outside it appears to be under construction and is closed. I would have liked to know the modern art museum was closed before buying my ticket. The outdoor park and indoor Gulbenkian exhibits can be seen for free and are just as impressive as the paid exhibits. I will have to come back to see the modern art museum whenever it is completed.

Vast and extraordinary collection of art. Beautiful items: handicrafts, textiles, jewelry, furniture, sculptures and paintings. Very roomy and functional spaces and still an enjoyable + warm atmosphere. Especially the number of famous paintings surprised us positively!

The best museum I’ve ever been, it’s perfect in everything: the architecture, the garden, building, collection, the light, the attention of the personnel. Besides the entrance is free on Sundays. The collection is just smack f. Very grateful for translation of Persian and Arabic poems that are written on the vases. Nobody normally does it. You can become the friend if the museum free of charge and attend free concerts with great musicians. Thank you, curators, and specially for Mr. Gulbenkian, rest in pease!

A very beautiful art collection. It takes you through a couple of thousands years of art from Europe, Asia, and North Africa. The building is very spacious inside, and all objects are are displayed accordingly. For viewing the basic collection, I'd recommend spending three hours in the museum if you like to take time to absorb it all and go home with new inspiration.

I went on the 1st weekend of the month so the ticket was free; even though there was a big line for getting in it moved pretty fast. The collection exceeded my expectations, hosting so many different and interesting pieces of art. I loved the contrast with art and nature in the background. Definitely worth a visit (or two)!

A place worth visiting, not crowded, where you can quietly appreciate some excellent collections. The museum displays its items classified by civilizations, offering some nice perspectives. The garden is also lovely, with many adorable ducks, perfect for sunbathing on the lawn.

The museums itself, housing this vast collection of art and artifacts, is already enough reason to visit. Starting from the main entrance, the concrete building and the greenery that flows from within it and around are such a sight to see! It’s truly a beautiful space full of serenity and modernity. The interiors do not disappoint, bit darker than I would like, they currently have an exhibit on Egyptian Pharaohs and it was incredibly enjoyable and well displayed. The museums houses several collection, from middle eastern carpets to Chinese ceramics. Some pieces of monet and degas. If you have some time walk around the gardens that surround the museum and enjoy the peace and scenery. I would not recommend to miss this place if you’re visiting Lisbon, you won’t regret it.

The museum has an eclectic collection and lots of activities. There is also a foundation by the same name working on a range of topics from social to scientific to arts.It is close to Corte Inglês in case you need a break from all the shopping. My highlight is the garden and pond where you can sit and relax. There are also two cafes for a bite to eat, drinks or ice-cream. When I went there were loads of little ducklings walking around and they were super cute. So whether you are into arts or just need a moment of calm this is the place to go.

One of the most beautiful museum I have ever visited. I was interested by the building but once entered in, I had the chance of admiring a stunning collection displayed magnificently. A second building (in which is displayed the contemporary art) is being renovated by the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The garden around the complex is worth of a visit too. Not to be missed when in Lisbon.

Amazing collection ! Small Egyptian room with beautiful pieces, a bit of greek, big Persian room with huge velvet fabrics, vases and objects from China and Japan, paintings from Italy, Holland, England, and France. Really nice, you can easily spend 2 hours visiting. Free on Sunday afternoon. You can walk into the garden beside the museum, it's like a cute forest.

One of my go to parks, the architecture is naturalist, the museum is free on Sundays and they usually have temporary exposition that are really interesting, cute ducks too, don't feed them or they will follow you and attack you. They have a library and a amphitheatre.

Superb private collection of the 20th century. A great mix of all cultures and different elements that were collected and out on display, ranging from Egyptian to Chinese and Belgian masters. So impressive that an individual could amass a collection of this size.

A very interesting museum with the exhibit spread over a couple of buildings in a large walled campus. The modern art is in a smaller building. The Gulbenkian collection is in the larger building. The museum contain the vast collection amassed by the Gulbenkian foundation. The museum has art collection from many countries - Africa, Iran, India and China to mention a few. I was impressed with the display of the carpets. There is a nice cafe on the ground floor. There is also a very nice gift shop on the second floor. You can easily spend the whole day here in this museum.

It is one of the most interesting museums in Lisbon. 6000 collection pieces, collected throughout his life by Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian, ("Egyptian art, Greco-Roman art, Mesopotamia, the Islamic Orient, Armenia, the Far East and, where Western art is concerned, sculpture, the art of the book, painting, decorative arts, and works by René Lalique") exhibited in a building specially built for this. Rare pieces by Rembrandt, Rodin, or Monet, exhibited in a well-designed chronological sequence. I visited the museum on the weekend (Sunday - after 2:00 p.m. when entry is free for everyone - the price of a ticket for adults at that time was 12 euros for all in exhibitions), and I waited about 10 minutes in line to pick up my tickets .

Kalust Gülbenkyan was an oil billionaire who lived in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul. He wanted to give this collection, consisting of more than 6000 pieces that he collected over a period of more than 40 years, to Turkey in the 1940s. Due to lack of interest from some shortsighted bureaucrats in Turkey, he left this unique collection to Portugal after his death. In Portugal, this beautiful museum was built by the Kalust Gülbenkyan Foundation and it exhibits the wonderful collection with exemplary museology. That's why, as a Turk, when I visited this place, I was both happy and a little saddened that these beauties, some of which belong to the lands of my people, remained here. The aim of the Museum is to preserve and exhibit Gulbenkyan's collection in the best possible way. It's clear that they've done this successfully. Even today they do not add anything to the collection. It is possible to see outstanding examples of Ottoman palace fabrics, carpets and Iznik tiles in this collection. An impressive exhibition awaits you in a beautiful building that does not tire the visitors...

Beautiful pieces of art and sculpture. Pleasantly surprised to find a nice selection of paintings by Rembrandt, Monet, Ruisdael, Turner, Corot and more. A wonderful gallery dedicated to Lalique Jewelry and art-glass pieces is also on display. A special exhibit of Japanese Ugiyo e prints was on display, for a slight additional fee. Total individual cost, with special exhibit, was 14euro (15% off for Seniors over 65)

They have some cool pieces here, worth going through on the free afternoon (once a week). I don't know if I'd pay full price, to someone who loves art it would probably be worth it just in terms of the art and rare furniture, but I got through it pretty quick.

I personally love private collections, where pieces are carefully selected, (and nobody knows how the artworks ended up in the collector's hands!) The state of conservation is exceptional. You'll also find the original planimetries of the building and the drawings of the display cases. Again, personally, the best representation of brutalism in Lisbon. Finally, a great garden with pond. Highly suggested

An impressive collection of art objects worth of Louvre and Hermitage. You'll see art works of Rodin, Monet, Degas, Rubens, Rembrandt, a sublime collection of French furniture, etc. And the cherry on the cake for me was a dedicated room for the collection of René Lalique ! Can't believe an individual could make a collection of that level. Top! An amazing heritage for Portugal. P.S. in 5 minutes walk you have a delicious Armenian restaurant, called Ararate, really tastes like and Armenian homemade food

A world class museum with superbly chosen individual pieces from many periods and cultures. It is not a huge collection but nevertheless substantial, and that works in its favour, as it allows time and space to actually see and absorb the artistry, skill and aesthetic that went into the work without a thousand competing distractions. The Gulbenkian has also displayed and mounted its collection extremely well. A place for deep contemplation.

This is one of the greatest museums in Lisbon, it has many art installations (permanent and seasonal), but the main reason it's such a great addiction to the city is the enormous and very well maintained garden surrounding it.

This is without the exaggeration the best museum I've ever seen. Never before has a museum managed to show something so cripplingly boring as ancient and oriental art and paintings (I'm sorry) in such a beautiful and intriguing manner. You will feel compelled to look at every single coin displayed. The collection is vast and beautifully preserved. A truly fine experience of art.

Situated on beautiful grounds and an amazing use of space on the inside. We had fun, just wish we had had an opportunity to see the other building that was under renovation.

What an amazing museum! The collection which ran the gamut from ancient Egyptian and Greek to middle eastern tapestries, as we as, Chinese and Japanese object d'art to European masters, sculptures, French period furniture would delight anyone.
