Unfortunately this museum prioritized design and style over true purpose of art exhibit space. Aside from small floor space, there is lack of interesting exhibits to make this a memorable experience. The exterior design and the surrounding landscaping while beautiful are something you can enjoy for free. If you are looking for more substantial body of work Check out the modern art museum nearby instead. That place is run like a proper museum.

Modern museum at a beautiful spot, overlooking the river. The building is very beautiful, although built as a museum building, it's all show, but the interior lacks logic. I was left wondering where to go next in the building. Also, there is no route signing. It's a pity that the museum provides little information at its exhibition. Viewing a huge art construction, I would have liked to know how it was designed and built. Also, I found the size of the complete exhibition to meager to justify €11 entrance. Just four art objects, with one being very big? €5 seems more fair. As a last remark: Does the ticket also gain the visitor entrance to the second MAAT museum building next door? If so, why doesn't the ticket sales tell you? Is it because the (friendly but visibly stressed) staff only speaks Portuguese? Is that acceptable for a modern museum with international pretenses?

MAAT is a very cool museum, as it's a museum of art architecture technology. This portion of the museum exhibits very interesting artworks. It's not very big and there are not a lot of exhibits. But the few that are there are excellent. And there is nothing cooler than this building. It looks like a fish was scales and the diamond ring sculpture almost acts as an eye of the fish when viewed from afar. You can go on top of this building and get a spectacular view of the Tagus River and the April 25th Bridge.

This is just my personal opinion of course so feel free to take it with a grain of salt but I seriously don't think this gallery is worth going to. The charge is 9€ per person to see very limited pieces of art that are way too post-modern and outlandish to really make me feel like it was worth my time. It felt like the artists were trying to be 'deep' with super abstract mediums to try and comment on the 'human condition' and how humans were ruining the earth (e.g. a chair with spike legs, a ladder with a hole in it...). The second part of the ticket allowed entrants to walk in and see a renewable power plant which was exactly what you would expect it to be - machinery in the middle of a room that you can inspect. I think you can spend your money on more interesting exhibits.

Nice museum with one part about the old power station and the other part being modern art. There are not a lot of exhibits though so if you are looking for a big variety, this is not it. There is a nice coffee shop looking over the river in the modern part you can eat and drink something.

Fantastic art and technology gallery, with some fascinating exhibits. Whilst we were there, there was a video installation, which was very disorientating but very cool. There was also a climate change computer that calculates your personal carbon footprint . The building itself is beautiful and very photogenic. The sweeping lines look fantastic on the coast. Tip : book your ticket in advance to avoid queue. We turned up and there was no queue, but when we left it looked pretty long. Tip: don’t miss the power station next door included with your ticket price. It’s epic too.

Their coffee shop offer amazing views over Tagus River. The architecture of the museum sets expectations quite high, so once you finish visiting you might be a bit disappointed as there is not much exhibited. The tickets also offer admission to the other museum next door, Tejo Power Station which we found more interesting.

Modern museum at a beautiful spot, overlooking the river. I didn't go inside as u just wanted to see the beautiful architecture. I has a great area where u can see the river. I was there in October, and it was super windy!

Interesting museum although light be challenging for some people to understand some exhibits. The first part is impressive with modern art. The next part was an exhibition dedicated to plastic and plastic recycling. Although quite informative it left me with a mixed feeling. The last part, a photo exhibition was the less interesting part of the museum. Price wise is fine although I spent only 30 minutes to navigate through the place. They ask people to leave their bags at the lockers so make sure you got coins with you. So dump policy. Ticket gives you access to nearby power plant.

MAAT is a museum dedicated to art, architecture and technology. It opened to the public in 2016. The museum is located directly on Tagus River. From here you can walk to Belem Tower, Geronimo's Monastery, The Monument to Discoveries, as they are between 12-20 minutes walking distance from the museum. The modernly designed structure can imply the mouth of a shark if you chose your photo angle carefully. To reach the entrance you need to climb Several steps that extend to a considerable distance to form sitting areas where you can take a break and enjoy the view and the nice weather of Lisbon. You can also take the mildly rising ramp to go to the roof of the museum that serves as an observatory deck. Admission fee: 9€ (reduced: 6€)

One of the best modern art museums I've been to. The modern 'manta ray' building had two very cool exhibits on which were great but for me the highlight was next door in the old power station (which is included in the very cheap ticket price). The building makes for a fantastic space for art and the exhibits - both the permanent and the temporary - were world class.

A fantastic building from the outside, mask is required upon entry and it must be worn at all times. We entered and found ourselves drawn into the immersive video display and projections into curved mirrors... The mix between the audio and the projection made you feel transported to warped reality... Intense to say the least. Rest of exhibition was good, very statement oriented (colonisation, social disparity, immigration, global warming) very enjoyable.

It worth to visit. Modern art. Great view on the bridge. There is cafe you can seat and enjoy the view. The best view from the top. It's open area and you don't need tickets.

The curvy building is impressive but you have to be lucky with what's on in the exhibition galleries inside. I'm not a big fan of modern art that requires a thick manual to understand it. There is a nice cafe on the side and you can walk on the curved roof and have good views of the river and the bridge nearby

Great architecture. The different views of the river and the surprising trip on the roof of the museum are a great experience of modern Lisbon. The combination between the innovative structure and the historical structure of the electric company is interesting. I had the privilege of visiting the wonderful exhibition of Joana Vasconcelos in both buildings and also outside. The rest of the exhibitions were also interesting, but you probably need to be an art lover to enjoy them. I was excited.

Amazing place! The coal fired old power plant turned into a museum is entirely possible to be visited. There are fully detailed explanations of all the components: turbines, electrical generators, boiler, condenser, pumps and so on... It's just amazing. I highly recommend it. 6€ with student card from any university and 9€ without. Entirely worth it!

Contemporary and abstract art combined with engineering and generators - very different but worth a visit. Extensive exhibition housed in contrasting buildings. Lots to see and do, great place to spend a few hours and reflect. Great insights into old traditions and how energy was generated from coal. The use of art is thought provoking and innovative. Worth a visit

MAAT is the museum of Art, Architecture and technology. I visited this museum the first Sunday of the month, when it’s free entry, there were some interesting exhibitions, I liked the uniqueness of this place. Everything is well organised. I totally recommend a visit!

Always fascinating to visit this place. Interesting temporary exhibitions! However, they had no free leaflets on free days so that can be disappointing because the queues get massive. The old building exhibition sticks! Take double masks. Ps. They open at 11am on Sunday, not 10am has it shows here

Very beautiful and interesting museum to visit. There is some modern art but you also get to visit the old power station where you get to learn how the system worked as well as what is being done I. The country to lower the making of electricity carbon imprint. It is fun for the kids too as they get to experience how to make electricity with there body. You can also study your own carbon imprint. The architecture of the building and the location (along the Tagus river) make it a very interesting place to visit.

A cool exhibition spot, but the exhibit we saw was kind of sparce. Not sure if it's normally like this, but we were in and out in like 45mins - would have liked a little more bang for our buck. Also this particular exhibit had a huge flashing light out the front that couldn't be avoided and was concerning for anyone with epilepsy.

The reviews I had read on other sites called this the "electricity museum" which is highly misleading... Of course, the exterior architecture is striking and lends itself to some great pictures but inside wad even better! Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. I wouldn't miss it! Very glad that we decided to skip the pop art museum on favor of coming here. While we were there we saw a wonderfully curated art exhibition of "modest art" in collaboration with Herve Di Rosa- impeccable and so much fun. We also took part in an injection molding demonstration using recycled materials. This accompanied a 3 part exhibition on Plastic that featured a 3 videos, a history of plastic design component (my favorite) and a look toward the future in research on bio plastics. Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed this place. It's shop is amazing as well.

Our visit to the MAAT museum in Lisbon started on a positive note, as we arrived early and were fortunate to avoid any lines. The museum's exterior is undeniably striking, capturing attention with its architectural allure. However, our overall experience within the museum left us with mixed feelings. Expectations were high, fueled by the external grandeur, yet the interior failed to fully live up to them. The segment housed within the old power station managed to salvage our impressions to some extent, offering a more engaging experience compared to the rest of the museum. Perhaps it was our anticipation that overshadowed the actual offerings, but we couldn't help but feel that there was a certain lack of substance within. Despite the captivating façade, the exhibits didn't quite match up to the visual appeal presented from the outside. For those exploring Lisbon for a short duration, particularly within a two-day timeframe, a visit to the MAAT museum may be a consideration. However, if time permits, strolling along the picturesque seaside, sipping on a beer, and relishing the view of the iconic bridge might provide a more satisfying and laid-back alternative to a museum visit. The city's small size allows for such leisurely explorations, and sometimes, the simplicity of enjoying the surroundings can be just as enriching as a museum experience.

We had an amazing visit to the MAAT museum. There was such a creative artistic touch to the whole museum with the most spectacular red sewn tree with lights and bead work as the first thing we saw. The coal mine explanations and figures were super realistic and well put together. There were lots of interactive parts of the museum in order to show the different forms of energy and how they are created as well as the historical time lines. This has been one of my favorite museums so far. Highly recommend.

Resembling a giant manta ray fish, the MAAT Museum (Art, Architecture and Technology) is located by the Tagus river. Begin your visit by climbing above the museum for fantastic views of the 25April bridge and the riverside. The current exhibition of Artist Joana Vasconcelos begins already outside the museum with a giant installation of a wedding ring 💍 made of car wheels and glasses and a massive mask made of mirrors.

Really cool concept but was underwhelming. I wasn’t disappointed for spending 11 euros for entry because I thought it was fair. I was disappointed by the lack of variety in art and it seems like they assembled a bunch of random things & put them in an exhibit. It’s cool if you have a free day in Lisbon with nothing to do because the area itself is nice but you don’t necessarily have to pay to enter the museum to enjoy it.

For such a beautiful building and location, I was surprised to find MAAT very uninteresting. For 11€, this was definitely not worth it. Joana Vasconcelos is brilliant but I was sad to see only 4 art pieces (even if one of them fills a whole room). There is no clear exhibition paths and the museum rooms are nothing special (quite surprising for an architecture museum). On top of it, the staff at the reception are rude/ not bothered to help. They were annoyed and barely spoke to me. This Museum has so much potential to be a reference in Lisbon but, in my opinion, it’s enough to see it from the outside.

This is a review of the public space baked into the architecture of MAAT, as I arrived too late to enter. Clever footbridge over the highway to access the roof from the old town. The steps to the water are a great place to lay down and take in the sunset, while planning where to eat. I regret not taking a scooter or bicycle from this point back into the city centre, as it seems the best way to make that journey. The prices of Ubers are truly too competitive here.

Although I didn't go into the gallery itself, I must say that as a building it is something that is very impressive. The architecture allows you to go on top of the building, for some stunning views of the river and the bridge in the distance. The energy of the surrounding area is great, with people relaxing and riding scooters past the promenade, all for an enjoyable afternoon. Next time I am in Lisbon, I will have to venture inside of the gallery, to see what it's all about!

The MAAT museum impresses with its intriguing location and architect Vladimir Djurovic's captivating building. The exhibitions, though basic, are well-distributed, and the ice cafe overlooking the sea adds a delightful touch. Worth a visit for art and architecture enthusiasts.

The views from the incredible roof structure are unbelievable and it is accessible for free via the slope or stairs along the sea wall walkway. There is an associated museum and restaurants as part of the complex, but the roof element is the top draw and a must see. The architecture and feel of the building are beautiful and the backdrop of the bridge, Bellum and the sea walk are great to see

Does have everything! Building itself is a sightseeing and lot’s to see inside. Cool interactive exhibitions that bring new perspectives to climate change, dividing borders, sea-life, therapy etc.. + former power plant exhibition. Do visit both buildings and walk over the white bridge that the newer building’s rooftop continues as. There is a cute house at the other side ;)

Very modern and pleasant architectural complex next to the restored and converted power station. I'm not excited about the interior art works but rather the architecture of the museum. To see the connected power station, partly converted into exhibition spaces and partly to show how it was like

We visited on a rainy day and the experience was worse than the weather outside. The personnel told us the museum is only half open but the ticket price was not discounted at all. We decided to visit in spite of what we felt was a pretty high price for just half an exhibition. What we saw was large installation in shape of a huge octopus made of different materials portraying quarters of Lisbon and a smaller exhibit of random postmodern art. In my opinion the museum and its structure are interesting but I was disappointed by the exhibition and its randomness and the fact that we could not visit the old building. But the main reason I gave it this low review is mainly for the asked price that did not align to the available logistics and conditions.

Worthy a visit. Even if only to the exterior part of the building, for free, the rooftop allows beautiful views of the river. Even on a Saturday afternoon it wasn’t overly crowded. Like every museum, you have to leave your backpack in safe deposit, for free. The facilities, wc, could be updated. Overall worth the time visiting for its architecture and surroundings views and go for a walk.

Lovely museum, with a lovely view too. Great value for the price- there were some things more aimed for children but I think it’s lovely that’s a very inclusive museum. I went in July 2023 so not sure if the display stuff has changed from now. I don’t think it’s necessary to prebook a ticket too!

Very beautiful buildings and surrounding area. For me, it is NOT worth it 11 euros to go inside. There is literally almost nothing worth seeing. But it's beautiful to see on the outside and take a walk around.

Rubbish for kids! Nice exhibition but horrible staff snapping “don’t touch” to toddlers - inconsistent with free entry for kids and accessible soft furnished installations. Either make it kid friendly, ban kids or put up barriers as it’s not their fault they want to engage with the art

Great museum right near Belem with an impressive view in what was a more industrial zone back then. We were here a couple of weeks ago and I can't say I really liked it. There were three parts to the museum of which the first two were very interesting. The first exhibition had curved screens that had videos of Tokyo on them, which made it seem like you were walking through Tokyo which was really cool. The second exhibition was about climate change was also pretty interesting but not too elaborate. The last exhibition had contemporary art which is just not my thing. I have to say, the view and the location near the water was beautiful. And perhaps more interesting than the museum itself

Just for the building worth it. On top of that you might face a nice exposition (I’ve been there 3 times, in 2 I found great work, 1 just ok). The building is gorgeous, ticket has a good price. Also is possible to visit an aside building that holds an electricity museum that is super interesting and well cared. This 2nd building is perfect for kids because have several interactivity tools to show electricity with a physics perspective. Also has a very pleasing restaurant outside (you don’t have to get in >> totally worth it to have at least a cafe not only for the view, but the experience). Out side you can take incredible pictures of Tejo and the view. Totally must go!

The temporary exhibit was really cool. The border wall standing as a pillar example of creativity. The power plant would be a candy land for engineers, but also worth seeing for anybody with a knack for restauration and industrial design. With the main exhibit the entrance there is free.
