Not much to see on the archeological site. If you have been to Turkey, Greece, Jordan... This teatro romano won't be interesting. The Roman amphitheatre is only worth of if you have time and never been to anything similar. Is not well preserved.

The museum represents the Roman theatre that was built in the 1st century BC by Emperor Augustus. The theatre was abandoned in the 4th century and remained buried up until the massive earthquake in Lisbon in 1755. You can see the remaining of the theatre and also the objects that were found like vases and statues. In addition to that, there is a place that you can try wearing Roman-style clothes!

Came upon this place while waking through Lisbon. The history is wonderful, but the site isn’t much to see. They have done a good job of protecting the ruins and painting the outside beautifully. I’m not sure if it costs anything because I was able to just walk in.

The main site of the theater ruins are viewable, free of charge, via the walkway constructed around the protected site. Like the museum across the lane (3€), the modern preservation and installations are minimal in style and use architectural outlines to provide the former scope and scale for visitors. The museum features excavation of the centuries of building and expansion over this site, while also housing artifacts spanning all the epocs of human settlement on the hills of Lisbon.

It was open for a viewing from above only when we visited (door opened from a sidewalk and you may take a peek). There was no staff but it was impressive to see the archeological digging site

The Museu de Lisboa - Teatro Romano is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in history or archaeology. Located in the heart of Lisbon, this museum is built on the site of a 1st-century Roman theatre, which was discovered during a renovation project in the 1960s. The museum provides a fascinating glimpse into the ancient past of Lisbon, with a wealth of exhibits and interactive displays. The museum is divided into two sections: the archaeological site, which contains the remains of the Roman theatre, and the museum itself, which houses a collection of artefacts from the site. The archaeological site is the highlight of the museum, and visitors can walk through the remains of the theatre, which was once capable of seating up to 5,000 people. The ruins have been well-preserved and are complemented by informative signage, which explains the history and function of the different parts of the theatre. The museum's collection of artefacts is also impressive, with displays of Roman pottery, coins, and other objects found on the site. There are also interactive exhibits, including a virtual reality experience that allows visitors to explore the theatre as it would have looked in ancient times. The museum is well-designed and easy to navigate, with clear signage and helpful staff on hand to answer questions. The admission fee is also very reasonable, making this an affordable attraction for families or solo travellers. Overall, the Museu de Lisboa - Teatro Romano is a fascinating and informative museum that provides a unique window into Lisbon's ancient past. It is highly recommended for anyone interested in history, archaeology, or just looking for a unique cultural experience while visiting Lisbon.

Nice place. It worth to visit it although I've seen larger sites. Also you can get a beautiful upper view of the river.

Gatekeeping the views for cash, need to pay even if you are just going inside the reception to check the views and not looking at the museum at all. Greedy

Amazing museum that shows the remains of 1st century CE Roman amphitheater. You can actually touch all those 2000 year old stones. Ask the worker there and they might give you a tour. They appreciate a tip afterwards.

It's not much to look at. If you're pushed for time I'd skip it.

A real perspective of the Roman heritage that lays below Lisbon streets. Uncovered first in the 1755 and again more than 300 years later to the excellent state of preservation we see today. Most of the ruins are free to visit, the artefacts and a more complete history of the local can be accessed by just 3€, well worth it to contribute to the preservation project. Also check the QR code on the sidewalk, to access a map to more details (and locals) of the old Felicitas Julia Olissippo Roman city

Built towards the entrance of the former Roman colony, as to be visible as the ships approached the ancient port, a proof of a rich and proud colony.

One of my favourite experiences from my visit to Lisbon. Does an excellent job of showing just how impressive the structure was in its heyday.

Didn’t take pictures of this place but to me it was not that amazing or calling 😗 maybe if you like real aged places but the theatre is very small compared to other Roman aged places I have seen in other countries. Sorry not sorry.

Worth walking past! A piece of history is here. Nothing to wow, or go out of your way to see, but it is quite interesting.

It was a nice little trip there, but I expected a bit more. You walk around once after 5 or 10 minutes and you're already done.

Incredible to stumble upon a 2,000 year old Roman theatre while walking the streets of Alfama. The history is so rich in this neighborhood. The exhibit was viewed only from the street when we visited but still worth it to see.

👍👍 Beautiful place. It's such a pleasure to be here in any season in full sun or under the moon. The Belem tower is awesome ! This fortress in the middle of the Tagus has been the starting point for the navigators who set out to discover the trade routes. The expansive spirit is still present here. En...
