5 euros gets you in to a very nice botanical garden with many plant species from around the world. A relaxing mostly quiet place(except for the occasional roar of a plane taking off from Lisbon airport). 5 euros is a reasonable cost for the maintenance of the gardens. Informative signs are found throughout the garden with information on the different and sometimes unusual plant species. A good place to spend a few or more hours away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

My visit on a cool and cloudy mid March day meant few flowers on show but the real strength of this garden is the trees which have grown to immense sizes. The fig trees and palms in particular must be ancient. I like the signs giving background information on the most interesting planting. Most trees and shrubs have individual labels which is essential if like me you have a botanical interest. I found this a drawback at the Lisbon Tropical Garden which is more of a pleasure garden than a botanical garden. The upper garden or Classe is accessible by showing the bar code on your ticket at the barrier reader. Once through you can't get back into the main garden. This area is more formal with more herbaceous planting that in March was not above ground. The 3 euro entrance fee is a bargain. There was a coffee and snack mobile van at the entrance for refreshments. And there are toilets.

Charming botanical garden. Has a variety of plants, with explanations of their life cycle and origin, both in Portuguese and English. The entry is not expensive and the garden is beautiful. You can sit on a bench and contemplate the plants and the quiet/ calming shade the tall trees offer. It was worth the time and the walk and was very educational.

Garden on top of the hill at Principe Real, all sorts of trees, cacti, ponds etc dotted around making lots of shade which is good on hot days. Not the biggest place but it's only €5 to get in.

Unfassbar schöner Park, wir kamen aus dem Staunen nicht mehr raus. Relativ zentral gelegen, aber im Gegensatz zur Innenstadt alles andere als überlaufen.

Small, lush and quiet garden, perfect for a relaxing walk. Don't expect a huge botanical garden. It's more of a small park. The coffee truck with cool music was the perfect touch. Good for a ca. 1h city break. Not counting the museum though.

Very beautiful and relaxing garden to visit with a huge variety of different plants and trees from around the world. A lot of steep slopes to walk around. I really enjoyed the sensual garden where you can experience walking barefoot on different elements found naturally on the ground in nature. Clean toilets inside. Tickets are available for just the garden or also the museum next door.

This internationally accredited botanical garden and National Museum of Natural History and Science right next to it are located together within the University of Lisbon. After visiting the museum, I recommend that you make time for the garden. You can take a pleasant walk among a wide variety of plants from different parts of the world.

It's ok if you like green plants and sculptures as there are lots of those. The gardens take about 40 minutes to walk around although you can pay extra to look around the museum as well.

We went to this garden and had a hard time to find the entrance at first. The prices are really good, and especially for students totally affordable. When we entered we were impressed by all the plants and life you could find there. All plants seemed to be in good shape and are looking healthy. There were plenty of benches to rest and stay while you admire the wildlife and let everything sink in. Also they were placed in the shadow which allowed you to escape the sun. The plants displayed are mostly from the nearby regions although there were others aswell. The garden is tidy and clean and really beautiful. Sadly at this time the pool and water parts appeared to be turned off, maybe because we were there out of season. If turned on I'm sure they look great. I can only suppose there is an indoor area because there were renovations going on. The staff as far as we encountered it were friendly, helpful and kind. It would be nice to have a shop or something but they don't/it's inside, so bring water or something. Would go there again. Just beautiful place.

Perfect place to cool down and enjoy a stroll through the greenery. There are many types of trees, but not so many explanations. There is a small area for flowers and a neat cactus garden.

Beautiful place 😍 Definitely must to visit. A green jungle island among narrow Lisbon streets. There are a lot of birds and benches, so you can just sit and relax. The entrance was free on Sunday.

A quiet little oasis that provides ample shade and places to rest. The garden features a cactus section, water features and sculpture/art installations throughout. More greenery than flowers but still lovely.

We got the place around 14.00 , there was no line in that time. As i understand there are two types of tickets, we chose the exterior part ticket only. The place is really calming and quiet to walk around and sit to relax between the trees and plants. Most of the view is trees and plants and less of flowers in the garden(maybe the other ticket is for other kind of flowers and plants but im not sure). I would recommend come and visit! I suggest to have around 45 min up to one hour to cover all parts and chill.

I went there on Sunday when there is free entrance between 10 am to 1 pm. Although there were people, you could hear the birds, admire the plants and enjoy the silence. There are benches where you can sit and enjoy. There is ceramic work of art that is interesting. Oh, and the plants absolutely marvelous.

I visited this botanical garden more than ten years ago and my impression today is the same as it was then: Not well cared for! Not well preserved! Not well presented. At least some lost statues improve the boring overall impression a little. Please improve this place and make it a memorable experience the next time I visit.

A quiet and cool oasis within the city. Many of the paths were closed due to construction, which diminished the experience. There were several, interesting sculpture installations throughout.

Nothing much to see in the botanical garden which is quite sad considering that it has space but not properly maintained. There are some art pieces on display for sales which will require a QR code to scan to understand more about it. Staff at the entrance were really nice and friendly, giving you recommendation on how to plan the route.

A good, nice and quiet walk. Expected a little bit more (compared with other botanical gardens). In summer should be perfect and cool. Would recommend to buy the tickets as a pack with the National Museum Of Science (much cheaper especially for families with kids).

Blew my mind. No idea why anyone would rate this less than 5 stars. It’s fantastic. Well worth the visit and nicely laid out with great write ups on the flora. Feels like Jurassic Park!

Beautiful beautiful place, even in winter. It was 5€ each to go around the garden alone but definitely worth it. Some really gorgeous plants to see and huge tropical trees to wander around. A perfect place to spend a few hours, just immersing in nature!

This place is incredible and beautiful. Fantastic array of fauna and plenty of birds to discover. One of the most interesting places in Lisbon for anyone that likes wildlife and plants. It's only 5 euros to see the garden. 8 for the museum. I only saw the garden.

Great visit and sights in this lovely garden and preserve. We were lost for hours visiting and trying to identify all the trees and flowers in this space. It was also a welcome relief from the sun, and a great place to sit and relax or reflect for a while.

A beautiful and peaceful botanical garden. A lot of things to see, especially when spring comes around (I went in April). The blossoming of the flowers is worth seeing. Also, there are lots of exotic old trees. However, the garden suffers from a lack of maintenance.

Mismanagement, carelessness, not appreciating the treasures of one's city, lack of water for a botanic garden ! , decadence... so many dying species in the garden... No one seems to care. The garden supposedly was under reconstruction, and closed but one doesn't feel that it was reconstructed and bettered. This was my first time time that I came here after the reopening. But it seems the garden is in worst shape than before... This is unacceptable. There are very old plants in the garden, but without water they will all die... I was very unhappy to find the place in such a state. Especially after being closed for so long for renovation. The cut tree is right next to the garden, but as you see the tree was absolutely healthy and old. Why to cut it down? To make a parking lot !! such a shame....

Nice small botanical garden. As of April 2018, some parts are still under renovation, but still worth the visit. Beautiful collection of trees and plants, with nice gravel walkways and plenty of benches to relax in the shade. There is a cultural programme with some plays in the amphitheatre. Only a few euros to get in, worth the visit. Tickets can be combined with the adjacent Natural Science Museum.

This year, 2020, Lisbon is the green capital of Europe. One visit to the botanic garden and you know this is a lie!!! The garden was closed for reconstruction for a few years. Half of it still is under construction and closed. The other half is full of withering and dying species...this is a big shame. No water for the botanic garden ! Only in Lisbon this is possible! No gardeners to care for the place. THE BOTANIC GARDEN IS DYING AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE!!!

(Translated by Google) Nice garden although not as big as I expected and quite unkempt. I liked the visit to the botanical garden because I did it accompanied and I went without many expectations. However, I expected something different. As good things I can say that there were toilets at the entrance, there were not many people and most of the trees had indications (names). However, I have enough "to improve" things to say: To begin with, a few weeks ago they removed the Free Entry on Sundays (now it costs € 3). Afterwards, the garden is smaller than I expected, with areas not at all differentiated, with paths full of moss and plants, trees and lakes COMPLETELY abandoned ... It made me especially sad to see the lake so neglected with fish "living" inside, through a water through which almost no sunlight passes ... I have lived in Lisbon for years and I am sad to say that this garden has very old trees with a lot of history but at the same time it is really abandoned and neglected. The visit is not worth the € 3 that the entrance fee and I sincerely recommend a visit to the Belém Tropical Garden.

Mature garden in Principe Real neighborhood. Lots of wonderful tree specimens and well maintained walking paths. Note that this garden focuses more on arboretum than flowers or formal gardens. It is also located on a hillside with several steps, so may be challenging for those with accessibility issues.

Construction began in 1873, opened in 1878. Currently, rare plant species from New Zealand, Australia, Japan, China and South America are collected here, about 1,500 species in total. It is divided into upper and lower levels. A quiet, pleasant place to relax. There are many shady alleys with benches for recreation. Admission is free on Sunday until 14.00.

A lowkey hidden gem in Lisbon, definitely underrated. Was super easy to get to, a nice short walk from the bus station. Cheap tickets (good deals for students!) and you can even get a combined ticket for the museum and gardens. There was a lot of space to walk around and a lot of beautiful things to see. The gardens were definitely q growing a bit unruly but I loved that. The general upkeep of the grounds seemed to be lacking some but didn’t detract from the experience at all. Would definitely recommend a visit for your first time in Lisbon, we came in late November and it was still super worth it

This garden right in the heart of Lisbon is absolutely beautiful. It’s not huge but it is also not that small. You will find a lot of places to seat and relax for a bit. You’ll find it very calm and noise free from the roads nearby. I guess for a botanist is something out of this world but for a regular person that will not read every single tree name is also pretty fine. Baby strollers are fine, but I’d recommend one with bigger wheels. The entrance was 3€ and for only 2€ more you can get a ticket for the museum, I haven’t for time constraints but I think you should.

The garden is nice to walk into but it is quite small. I suggest buying the combined ticket to access the garden and the museum. The latter is quite big and comtains a variety of expositions about plan history, minerals and skeletons of existing and extinct species (including dinosaurs). The combined ticket costs 6 euros while the garden only ticket costs 5 euros.

Apparently the garden hosts over 10.000 plants and when launched in 1873, it was considered one of the best botanical gardens in Europe. Although restored between 2016 and 2018, it still gives the impression of being neglected. As a result, admission tickets cost only €3. Even so, go visit the garden to literally chill out in Lisbon.

We are passionate about Nature so we couldn’t skip the botanical garden. Although the garden could use some maintenance we didn’t regret going there. Quite a piece full place in a crowded city. It gave us a moment of piece. The variety of trees and plants is overwhelming. If you are in Lisbon a must do. René and Menekşe.

Incredibly beautiful botanical garden with plant species that you don't often see like Dracaena Draco. Perfect place to relax in the heart of Lisbon.

Beautiful, very peaceful and quiet, you forget you're in a city! There is a decent variety of plants, less than what you would expect in a botanical garden, but still a very nice, relaxing experience.

Beautiful botanic garden that provides a breathe of fresh air in the city. Take 30 to 4t lin to wander around and sit to enjoy this quiet space. Beautiful exotic species to see.

A source of serenity in downtown Lisboa. As soon as you enter the garden you no longer here any cars or sounds of the city around you. There are a lot of nice trees and oddly shaped bushes/plants to look at. Fun if you have 1/1,5 hour to spare!

It is my second visit to this garden (first was over 10 years ago), and I simply love this place. It is a model for botanical gardens:) it’s gently structured, just enough to guide one through its beauty, otherwise, one is absolutely immersed in the sounds, smells, diversity and beauty of the nature. A must visit in Lisbon.

This is a nice little oasis of respite in busy Lisbon. It was nice to walk around and explore, and it was cool and shady on a hot afternoon. There is a variety of plants and trees from around the world, all growing outdoors. I’ve been to fancier and more comprehensive botanical gardens, but none as pretty. It felt almost more like a park.

Nice botanical garden, specialized in sub tropical / Mediterranean plants. The plants are given plenty of freedom to grow wild, which results in almost a forests like atmosphere, compared to botanical gardens that are overly kept. It's a nice area to walk around, sit down and relax, and avoid the busy crowds of the city. Entry is €5.

The botanical garden in Lisbon may not be the largest, but it certainly packs a delightful punch. Located on a hillside in Lisbon, the garden offers a serene escape from the bustling city. While the sloping terrain might pose a slight challenge for some visitors, it also adds to the garden's unique character. The diverse collection of plants and flowers from different regions is a treat for nature enthusiasts, and the well-maintained pathways lead to hidden gems throughout. The botanical garden in Lisbon provides a charming retreat, making it a wonderful spot to relax, learn, and appreciate the beauty of the natural world.

Not a big place. €12.50 for a family of four, well it may be worth the money in summer. Probably best to do museum and gardens on the same ticket.

A little oasis in Lisbon. Perfect place to relax from city touring and see some green. Nice landscaping, lots of benches to rest. The coffee from the cafe truck is very good, too.

A very beautiful garden with lots of interesting plants. It's linked with the university, and currently has a ceramic art event on- worth seeing! A little bit of peace and calm in an otherwise vibrant and bustling city!

A botanic haven in the heart of Lisbon. 5€ entry fee. Mostly a variety of aloes, opuntias Palm trees, cycas and Monstera deliciosa. Lots of art work and statues as well. Would definitely recommend if you're into tropical/houseplants.
