Do not go here if you are Black. I sat for over 30 minutes watching everyone around me. I ordered one thing and it never came. A party of 32 came after me and they all received their orders. I really wanted to try the food here after seeing Mark Wiens video on Portugal but they would not sever me food. I really could not even give them any stars because I never tasted the food.

Awful, avoid. This place had good reviews, so I made a reservation for dinner. A waiter showed me to my table and then ... didn't come back for 15 minutes. I tried to get his attention, to no avail. Eventually, he returned, poured some water and then left again, then brought some bread 10 minutes later. I tried to place my order, but he said he'd come back later -- another 10 minutes. (I should mention here that the restaurant was only about one third full, and it didn't seem like the reason was Covid social distancing, based on the table layout. There were 3 waiters and either a young guy who was either a bus boy or apprentice.) I inquired about the pork special and the way he described it ended up being a misrepresentation of what it was. But, also, it was just objectively bad: the vegetables tasted like they came from a can and were way overmarinated. I asked what drinks they have and was told "We have red wines and white wines." Wow, very helpful. I asked him to be more specific and he just dropped a wine list on my table and walked away. Now, putting aside even the bad service aspect of this, as a waiter, you're supposed to really sell the alcohol, because that's what gets the restaurant its biggest profit margin. So this was just bizarre. This waiter also reeked of cologne and, while it's not my place to judge others' olfactory choices, it did kind of complete the overall checklist of a "sleazy waiter." My table was right next to the drawer where the restaurant's silverware was kept, so it was particularly egregious that I couldn't get the waiter's attention for the rest of the meal. But, I did observe one of the older waiters yell at the apprentice / bus boy 3 feet away from me, apparently because he was too slow in getting the cutlery. Of course, by the time I was halfway through my entree, I had already made my decision to leave as quickly as possible, so 15 minutes of asking for the check eventually yielded success. And it was the bus boy who brought me the check. I really had no desire to tip anything, but I did give the bus boy a few Euros, mostly because I felt bad at how the waiter had been bullying him. Not saying this was the worst possible experience (we've all heard stories of wait staff being abusive or discriminatory against patrons), but for the price of the place (and this being an establishment where all the waiters wore suits), this is just unacceptable. Recommend going anywhere else.

Fish dish was fantastic with flavour and tasted very good. The one that dropped the rating down was the meat dish. The sirloin steak was very thin, looked very light, almost anaemic, not cooked to medium. I had eaten better steaks in Lisbon & that they had totally missed the mark. Chips were floppy, lifeless and undercooked. Recommend for fish, stay clear for meat dishes as better restaurants out there

Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is overpriced for it’s quality. Drinks are decent for their price. Nice location with tourist attractions nearby. Quite chilly and relaxed vibes. Enjoyed speaking to the staff and all. But food is really overpriced. Grilled octopus was mediocre. The fish was decent but still quite expensive. Probably won’t return. Try it when you don’t have alternatives nearby and maybe stick to the desserts and drinks!

Wonderful lunch in this amazing restaurant in Lisbon which dates back to the 18th century - try the sardines or other fish dishes with local wines - fantastic experience with great staff who will give you good advice.

We only had coffee, drinks, and pasteis de bacalhau. Everything was good and everyone was very friendly but as far as the prices it’s definitely a tourist trap. Just the things that I mentioned here were all so expensive compared to what you get elsewhere in Lisbon. Visited in Fall 2022.

We had a great experience; steak was cooked on point and the coffee sauce was unique and delicious 😍 waiter guy was really friendly too, paid around €100 for 2 steaks, one salad and two glasses of wine which isnt cheap but worth the nice atmosphere.

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Definitely check out the daily menu as it has plenty more options of which some are also a bit more affordable. Would absolutely come again.

The food was fine but expensive, and they put cheese and sardines on the table. You didn't ask for it, and if you eat it, they charge you for it as they will charge you for the bride . I don't like their way ,the place is fine but they spoiled it.

Pasteis de balcahau with coffee did just the job for a morning when I wanted to have something light but special after an 8K run along the riverfront. Imagine little bursts of savory ocean juice melding with occasional sips of strong bittersweet coffee? And not forgetting that this cafe is part of the rich history which surrounds you as you sit back and look out at the majestic plaza and into its long sculpted archways. But come only when it’s not summer and the crowd is sparse!

This is the oldest restaurant in Lisbon , but it has the FRESHEST seafood in town. I loved my grilled Grouper which I selected myself with the help of Antonio , He suggested a white wine to complement my dish and it was amazing. We were a group of 12 , but are table had 3 servers, they provided us with complementary appetizers of just carved on the board slices of Serrano ham mmmmmm. Next time I'm in Lisbon I will make it a must revisión. LOVE LISBON

This place is overrated. It is nice but does not live up to the hype. The pastel de natas are really delicious, but the traditional snacks we ordered were just average and cappuccino simply was not cappuccino. You can go there, since it is very old and located at a nice spot. However, you can taste more delicious food and pay less anywhere else. The staff is really nice and friendly!

A historic place but very expensive. Food and service didn’t live up to the historic feature. We felt we didn’t get the value for what we paid. The only place in Portugal where the waiter asked for a tip, claimed service was not included, repeatedly asked for adding it to the total. I was told by Portuguese friends and Portuguese language teachers that service was always included in Portugal. Be careful, check before hand about what is included.

Best food we had in Lisbon. It was seasoned well. Grilled swordfish was wonderful. Excellent service. Only complaint, and I understand this is very personal/cultural, but a futbol game was on the TV loud while we were sitting outside enjoying the ambiance. Highly recommend.

Super evening with great attentive staff. Good food and large portions. We had large salads, pork, fish and yummy cream Brule and whiskey cake. A landmark and a place to stop by when visiting Lisbon.

I will NOT recommend this place. Honestly, food is overpriced and the staff is pushy and tries to oversell. Agree this is at a good location -at very touristy spot but I almost felt like they ROBBED me. Things which other restaurants serve complimentary ( I never asked for it), this place charged for it. I went to this restaurant because it’s so called “the oldest restaurant in Lisbon” but it has lost its charm!

Avoid this place. Ordered cod cakes advertised as 8 only received 7 and was told because 1 was large. Also not cooked to order - cold and chewy. Sea bass for 2 was good but not worth the price. Vegetable sides tasted and looked like frozen veggies and thawed in microwave. Despite is location and atmosphere, this place is an embarrassment to Portuguese cuisine. Not once did anyone ask how the food was... almost as if they already know.

No lemons with seafood or cod cakes. Sad seafood window that looks like it needs more ice. No wine selection. Frozen vegetables. No flavor in sea bass, potatoes, or vegetables - just heavy oil. List goes on and on. To top it off interrogated my partner after he asked about the toilet location. Apparently they didn’t think we were paying guests but they could have asked that first before insulting him. We were one of 6 tables set. The staff just stares at you the entire time. I just hope I don’t get sick from the sad seafood that they call fresh. It wasn’t a welcoming experience - very bland with stale bread (yikes!) Bacalhau wasn’t worth a damn. I’d stay away from this place - so sad!

Service was great, but the food is pretty average and certainly not worth the price nor the wait. In all my travels I've never been to a restaurant that charges for sachets of ketchup - that just made me laugh. It's a lovely old place, but sadly a tourist trap. 3 stars is more than fair.

Commercial place. Taste of coffee is definitely not the best in Lisbon. Sandwich so dry. No place for breakfast and coffee.

Amazing experience. Delicious pasteis do nata. The owner is very friendly and a nice person. I felt like in my grandparents kitchen. A must in Lisbon 🇵🇹

Amazing Venus, amazing food. It is a given that you must try their pasteis de nata as it is famous here! Don't miss it

Had tuna fillet with serranoham, which was pretty good, but it had a stray bay leaf left in it under the ham, which I don't really expect in a dish that's €17.50. Outside seating was full but inside had ample seating left, was seated immediately and properly, albeit in a bit of a "dead" corner. The staff was nice though a bit absent now and then, seemed to prefer couples/groups over solo travellers, but not to an extent that it's a deal breaker for me. The men's bathroom stall sliding door doesn't fully/properly close; there is a gap, which gives users of the urinals a peek into the toilet stall. Overall though, I had a decent experience and good meal, I would give 5 stars, if these little things were resolved.

The food is good, not great, and it’s overpriced. The wait staff is pleasant and the venue is quite pretty. It’s a good option for where it is.

It was lunchtime on a weekday at the time of our arrival. The staff seated us quickly at a nice table and our waiter made us excellent recommendations. In terms of portion, the meals are huge therefore one must order with caution. A meal for two would probably feed 4 people. In terms of quality, it was out of this world. Muito obrigado por tudo. Quando estivermos na cidada novamente, voltaremos com certeza. O seu restaurante é imperdível em Lisboa!
