Is there a line-up while you're looking this up on Google? Cool. Get in the line-up. You can read this review while you wait. Just... go ahead. I'll wait. Okay. Now. The sandwiches. Had my first experience of a Bifana at this place and the buzz is completely warranted. Inexpensive, authentic, and delicious. It's not often a sandwich will make me smile, but what you're getting here in this humble and unassuming creation is some of the most tender, flavourful, perfectly-cooked pork you'll find around -- a perfect reward for what can be a bit of a wait in line at times. I ate half of my sandwich just plain in order to savour the goodness, then topped the other half with some of their mustard and hot sauce. I almost went back in line for another one -- they're that good. The perfect pick-me-up for your day served with a joke and a smile. A must-visit when in Lisbon!

A must in Lisbon! The wait and hype is real! My friend had told me about this place and how he went 2x and braved the long lines. The pork sandwich w/ beer is a common snack or meal in Lisbon. This place is one of the best at making it. Fresh and juicy hot pork on bread. No sauce really needed. Very inexpensive and worth every euro!

Very good for the price of just 2.5€ for the pork stew. The fish cake is cold but very good too would be fantastic if they could heat it up. There’s little counters for you to stand and eat or some beaches in the square just steps away. Staffs are friendly

Really lovely Portuguese pork rolls. Simple and tasty pork with a bit of mustard sauce to really hit it! Coffee was also good too! Remember this is a cash only joint and food is really good and affordable! Must try in Lisboa!

4.4 stars. Good prices. Long line. Fast service. Flat beers. No tables. And no place nearby to sit. Nov 2022 (this place has been around forever so I doubt my 12 months late review would not be diff if I ate there today).

We were doing a tour and passed by this place and our tour guide told us how great the sandwiches were! So the next day we went and had a few. Be sure to try the spicy oil, it was really good! The lines can get long but they’re worth it!!

For a quick grab lunch you can try they famous pork sandwiches🥪🥙 But since I don’t eat pork I tried their fish sandwich and chocolate mousse. The sandwich unfortunately for me is served cold and without condiments at all so it taste bland and just dull, the fried fish was quite good but the bun it too hard to chew. Their chocolate mousse is tasty and big portions good for sharing.

We saw a long queue, so we joined figuring the local tour guide who was buying pork sandwiches and beer for a dozen tourists should know the good spots. We weren’t disappointed. If I spoke the language, I would have asked for extra broth because the bread needed. You definitely should. He will also cut it in half if you ask. A perfect mid-morning snack, so good I took a bite before I took the pic.

€2.50 for a classic Portuguese sandwich, definitely worth it!!! The meat was so juicy and tasty. Although it’s a bit salty for my taste, it’s cooperating well with the bun. Very local feeling and I truly recommend to give it a try especially if you’re a tourist! It’s simple but very tasty.

Value for what you get is great! The Bifana was really tasty (make sure to add hot mustard and oil). I also added cheese (which they charge 1 euro extra for- seems a bit much considering it was one slice). It is worth the hype and wait

It wasn’t the best meal ever BUT it was everything we expected : a cheap, Portuguese, to go lunch ! It was very good, the sauces really bring something. The options for the sandwiches are : - bifanas - fried chicken - fried veggies - omelette We tried chicken and bifanas and both were really good ! We paid 7€ for both sandwiched and 2 bottle of water. You can eat on sunny benches just in front of the restaurant.

Was just in time before another queue formed. I had the one with cheese, which was pretty good. I expected maybe more flavour. Or some of the juices on the sandwich. Overall a good experience, prices are good and I was able to get a beer with it. CASH ONLY just giving you guys a headsup

The Bifana was affordable at only €3. But I must admit the boar taint of the pork was a little strong for me. The heavy-handed garlic helped to mask it a bit. Note that they take CASH ONLY, so be sure to come prepared. Other reviewers mentioned that they favour the locals and discriminate tourists but we didn't experience that at all. They were very kind when we didn't have cash, and told us to eat first then grab cash. We didn't have to queue on a weekday morning before 11am.

Yummy succulent pork sandwiches with a spicy sauce. They offer other things too like beef. Delicious, it was €2.50 each- bit of a queue but it moved fairly quickly

Tiny hole in the wall place with friendly owners - a delicious Portuguese sandwich called a bifana! Full of pork goodness. Have one or two, plus some soup and a beer for a meal, or grab one as a snack. Best to just eat with your hands for the best experience - if you’re having it there, there’s a tap for you to wash your hands after!

As a Canadian born Portuguese, my experience with Bifanas were always at church fundraisers from “the little old ladies”. These lived up to all those childhood tastes and expectations. You can get the sandwich with cheese or without, either tastes phenomenal (we did both). They’ve got a spicy oil, and mustards to top with. Although I’m a purest, I recognize that the oil and mustards are a MUST. You’ll probably stand in line a good while unless you’re there around opening at 11, but it was well worth the wait. Famous for good reason. Highly recommended! (Pro tip: there’s no seating, and the small tables in the square are owned by the restaurant next door. HOWEVER, if you buy your beer or cocktails from THEM they don’t mind you relaxing and eating your sandwiches in comfort. They’ll come to the table and take your drink order. Win win!)

Everyone comes for this shop's thinly sliced pork bun. The queue can be intimidating but the crowd just keep coming. It is salted flavour like most of the grilled good in Lisbon, Portugal. These pork slices are really tender. Popularly sold with a glass of cold beer. No dining, and patrons just sit at a public circular bench or stand around the shop

Delicious choice for all the meat lovers. Very tasty, well flavored meat with fresh bread and reasonable prices. It’s worth trying it. A hidden gem in Lisbon.

This is one of those local gems and a must try when you’re in Lisbon. Have you heard of Strictly Dumpling? I was watching Mikey Chen’s Lisbon video, and he tried the bifanas here. This was worth the hike up the street. The sandwich was surprisingly tasty with the mustard and chili oil. Wash it down with some draft beer that’s less than 2€\glass. This place is a nice breakfast option because it’s not too filling and not sweet. I wanted to try the cod fritter, but they don’t do that in the morning. It’s just a small shop, so there were no bathrooms. Cash only!!

Really good! I’m not really a fan of pork, but I still enjoyed it. I’m glad I got it the “not original way” (as he was kind to tell me), and added cheese. It’s really a good cheese, and it gave more flavors beside pork (tried a bite with no cheese). Remember to add the hot sauce (it’s not too spicy) and mustard (more acidic than what I know). Got there at 11 - happy with my choice as the crowd gets there at 11:30 apparently 😅 Cash only!

The service is terrible for tourists. The lines are chaotic, and if by chance you finish the "local line" after 30 minutes, expect to be addressed disrespectfully as "This is a local line; move!." and you have to go back and do the line again. We did it, and maybe you are wondering why; well, this is one of the best places ranked here, but let's be honest is not worth it to go a long line, and eat outside without chairs. Once you have it, please add mustard because there is no flavor in the sandwich is just pork with bread. Portugal has been so nice to see so far, and this is the only place they make me feel terrible.

Best snack in Lisbon! So simple, so cheap and soooo good. Just bread, pork and mustard if you add it. I came here 3 times in 2 days and did not get sick of it at all. Best 2,70€ you can spend :)

I had my first taste of Bifana when I was in the Azores. So I had to try this place out since it was highly recommended. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The sandwich was delicious! The meat was so tender and perfectly cooked. Adding the mustard and spicy olive oil made it even better. The sandwich is super cheap. FYI, expect a long line. It’s worth the wait. CASH ONLY!!!

One of the best street food that I have tried. Simple yet delicious. Of course I’m talking about the bifanas, which I recommend ordering two. Not that they are small, but for sure you’ll want another one after the first. One with mustard, one with the hot sauce. Sometimes you may find a queue, don’t worry, they won’t run out of the famous bifanas. Cash only, so be prepared.

I had some amazing cod, and this place is more famous for their bifanas! I could not try them today, but I will come back The place has fairly long lines at times, but you will move very quickly. There is a reason why people line up here, after all... Worth it And the guys serving up the food are up for a good banter Recommended!

A delicious, simple and affordable meal! There was a line up upon arrival but it went by pretty quick. We bought two sandwiches, a beer and a soda for 7.5€! The mustard and hot sauce is a must.

The bifana (pork sandwich) is really good here! We came on a Tuesday around 10 am and there was no line up. The pork was flavorful and juicy. You can add mustard or the spicy oil to enhance the flavors.

As the name suggests, this place is famous for Bifana, a traditional Portuguese sandwich made with thin slices of pork marinated in white wine. There was a line, but it was quick (10-15 minutes). I added mustard, which I recommend doing. There are no tables inside, so you will need to eat outside. The cost for the sandwich and a small beer was 4 euros.

Well worth the wait and delicious bifanas. This spot is super busy but I promise you worth the wait. It’s very reasonably priced too. 3 bifana sandwiches, a large beer and a coke for €14.

Long line both days I went but less than 15 minutes each time had the bifana with cheese and added mustard also added spicy sauce the 2nd day(had no idea what it was) paired great with a beer. Everyone sits on the steps along the sidewalk to eat. My kinda place!

  • 5/5 Alex M. 6 months ago on Google
Cheap & cheerful street food, in this case a traditional pork sandwich. We added cheese to ours and a couple of small beers which came to just over 10 euros. It can get busy but the service is quick! Great place for a quick authentic cheap eat

Great authentic Portuguese bifanas. Definite must snack while enjoying the sites of Lisbon. Very small space and no seating available, with only some standing counters to eat at inside and outside, but that is part of the charm. Excellent and of the best bifanas I have had.

This was an accidental find 2 blocks from out Airbnb. Was fantastic. A bifana and a cold beer at 11 am hit the spot on our first day in Lisbon. Service was great, food was great. Went back there a few more times on our trip.

One of the best things that I ate while in Lisbon! The line can be intimidating mid-day so I suggest trying close to open or close time for a shorter line. It is cash only and there is no seating besides some benches and sidewalk steps but don’t let that stop you from coming here! The mustard and hot oil are a must add.

  • 4/5 Sarah B. 5 months ago on Google
Good food and service. Nice outdoor seating area too. The tuna wrap was delicious and came with crisps, olives, and melon on the side. Also very reasonably priced!

  • 4/5 Remidemic 5 months ago on Google
Sure it was tasty and cheap. I dono what the hype is all about. I would eat again but not if there’s any kind of line. But not hating. Good for them. I’d put some more stuff* on it like a tomato & pickle but I guess that’s not how they do it in these parts. However, the spicy sauce was proper.

  • 5/5 Olivia López G. 7 months ago on Google
Small, local, and perfect quality. 1000% authentic Bifanas, impressively inexpensive. There is always a line, which takes 15-20 minutes max. We tried the Bifanas com queixo and the Soup of the day. Incredibly tasty.

  • 5/5 CR F. 9 months ago on Google
Absolutely loved the bifana! The steak burger is the best I have tasted. A quaint humble eatery located along the corner, selling bifana with wines/ beers. There are custard and chilli oil sauces which can be added to the bifana if you prefer to do so. Personally, I felt that the bifana was tasty enough on its own without the sauces. Definitely a must try and go in the morning to avoid the long crowd!

  • 5/5 Ben Franco I. 7 months ago on Google
Always a lineup at this place. Best bifanas I’ve had in Lisboa. Totally recommend this place. Just a whole in the wall doing few but great things. Enjoy!

  • 5/5 Samantha H. 1 year ago on Google
Get ready to queue... but trust me, it is worth it! We were there on a weekday lunchtime on a rainy day in December and still waited for about 40 mins. But we were glad we persevered. It is a little whole in the wall, take-away place. There are a few benches outside, but be prepared to grab the sandwich and eat on the go. We tried the classic pork Bifana and honestly were more impressed with the taste than expected. For only 2.50 euros, you get a soft fluffy white roll, with delicious succulent pork. You can add mustard and chili sauce to your liking - and grab a cold beer to wash it down with. It might be a bit touristy since it's reputation has grown, but not a tourist trap. Fantastic food at an even better price!

The queue tells everything. If you ask me what’s the best thing to eat in Portugal 🇵🇹, this has to be it! It’s a small rustic shop you hardly find a place to sit so I takeaway to eat at the bench of the park in front. The pork slices was so flavourful, paired perfectly with mustard (please add more mustard it was so tangy and addictive), and the bread soaked up the juices from the pork which made every bite a pleasure! I tried their fried codfish as well but i will stick to the pork sandwich! My ultimate bias!

  • 5/5 Miranda L. 1 year ago on Google
Omg, this is the place must try in Lisbon! Simple ingredients, simple food, but just very tasty and deserve every penny you pay! I went to there twice for breakfast while I was in Lisbon, tried their bifana and cod fish cake, the fish cake was a little cold but still tasty. The bifana was amazing! I wish I could find a recipe to make it at home!!!

  • 5/5 Wayne C. 1 year ago on Google
This place is absolutely amazing. One of the best meals we have had in Lisbon and it's just a Sandwich. Get it with cheese and dump the mustard and chili sauce everywhere and add a cold beer, you won't regret it. You can find the shop by the long line and amazing smells, don't stress it moves quick. For $3.50 euros what do you have to lose?!

  • 5/5 Sarah O. 1 year ago on Google
Small little place, seemed very local and authentic. Staff very friendly. Sandwich was only €2.50 and was delicious. Definitely worth trying while visiting Lisbon. Recommend

Best bifana in town!!! Had an yummy bifana and that too for 2.5€. Meat was juicy and seems fresh. Mustard sauce was also good. Over all had a very good experience. It is a very small restaurant. Must try spot tfor all.

Tasty pork sandwich, had to queue for 20 minutes because it is one of the most popular amongst local and tourists. Goes well with mustard, beer or wine. All super cheap, a must if you are hungry.

Working man's sandwich and a beer. Cheap good eats and tasty. I didn't k ow about this place but saw line of young travelers waiting for a sandwich. I figured that meant it was cheap and good.. Correct on both counts.... I'll be back..

If you want a cheap and delicious breakfast or just a bite during the day, you must come here! Everything is fresh, friendly English speaking staff and they can make you a veggie sandwich as well.
