Batata Doce , meaning sweet potatoes, is a a very sympathetic neighborhood restaurant, run by a very sweet couple, Joao and Isabel, two gentle souls. It has 6-8 tables, and could house not more than 18 people. Very cozy, chic, pleasant small restaurant where Joao serves with great care as Isabel cooks and prepares the orders. My favorite and her signature dish is Muamba with chicken ( muamba de frango) from Angola served with mandioca root. It is sort of a stew. I can go there every week just to eat muamba. But their muquequa de camarao ( shrimp) is also to die for. The place makes you feel at home. It is located in one of Lisbon’s most beautiful neighborhood Lapa’s cute street on the tram route. It is modestly priced. Would give even six stars if it were possible. Thank you Isabel and Joao.

Super welcoming and friendly owners that quickly resolved our "too many people to sit" problem. This place is what I would imagine ot would be like if I ate at an Angolan nonna's house. Super cozy, very hearty and tasty food! We had a really fun dinner. Crab curry and beef stew were sooooooo good! Such great value for good food. Will be back!! 🤤

Wunderbar, einfach eine andere Seite. Sehr herzlich empfangen, super Essen und Bedienung, wie man sie höchstens aus Frankreich kennt. (allerdings um vieles günstiger) Eine sehr gute Flasche Wein hat uns z. B. Mit Empfehlung 12€ gekostet.

Cute little place run by a mom and (I think) her kids. Great service, very friendly. We walked in and they were full and they set us up for the next night even though they were hosting a large group that took up almost all the available seating that night. Food was great, had a home cooked comfort food vibe to it. They have a piri piri jam (some sort of fruit jam with chillies) and it was fantastic. Had some dishes including a slow cooked braised beef and a tomato rice type dish. Overall, would recommend checking it out. I think would actually be a great place to go as a large group (12+) as it's not a very large space at all.

We’ve dined at Batata Doce for both lunch and dinner and had a wonderful experience and meal. The cozy and relaxing atmosphere combined with the stellar and gracious welcome by Joanna and her daughter Isabelle made us feel right at home. The food is flavorful and delicious. Both the funge/fufu and wine selection were great. I always ask myself if I’d return again and my answer is: YES!

I was very disappointed with the place: the wait time is crazy, they brought us a bottle of wine, though we asked for just one glass, also the bottle neck was broken. In the end they added to the bill some dishes we ordered, but they never brought us. The food was ok, not good not bad

For a taste of home cooking in an intimate space on the border of Santos/ Lapa, visit Isabel's neighborhood gem to fill your belly with some muquequa de camarao (shrimp curry) and muamba stew. Don't forget to bring some euros as this place is cash-only!

One of the best places to eat comfort food in Lisbon. Excellent cooked dishes, desserts are also made with so much love! Service is also great! And increadible how the quality is preserved throught all these years!

The space is cozy and it has a lovely ambiance inside. I had the beef stew and the chocolate cake and they were both very delicious and it was very reasonably priced. They were helpful helping me pick a dish. Caveat: They don’t take cards so plan accordingly.

Really nice restaurant, probably the best shrimps if ever eaten, just be aware that you're not going far with English.

Their Alcatra Estufada is phenomenal! The meat is juicy and soft, perfectly stewed in its sauces, and the home-made potato chips have a wonderful crunch that pair SO well with the meat. Their fried lamb chops aren’t actually fried—it’s more so pan-fried. While that was also good, docking a star as I have had better lamb chops. If you go, I absolutely recommend the Alcatra dish—you won’t regret it!
