This was hands down one of the best dining experiences of my life. The owner sat with us for a few minutes to explain how she cooked the pork stew. She was so kind and definitely one of the best chefs I have encountered. I wish I had discovered this restaurant earlier on in my trip because I truly would have come here every single day I was in Lisbon. We have been in Portugal for 10 days, trying many restaurants, and it was the best meal we had, and I would place it in the top 10 I've had ever in my life!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will absolutely look forward to coming back the next time I am in Lisbon. Maria, thank you so much for creating such a wonderful experience for us this evening!! Your food, your restaurant, and you are awesome!! For food recommendations, we got the pork stew and the octopus and they were both so incredibly delicious. Definitely get those!

Had an amazing lunch with excellent Portuguese food in a comfortable quiet yet central location. We discovered 12:30 is a great time to come eat in Portugal before everyone shows at 1. For a perfect little table outside. Great menu that focuses on all the things done right. As well as a story of the restaurant and the owner. Beautiful and heart touching story. Services was warm and friendly, food was really delicious and location was ideal. Absolutely make sure to go for a meal when in Lisbon.

A Heartwarming Portuguese Gem in Lisbon! This charming restaurant has won my heart. The well-prepared, fresh dishes showcased the chefs' skill and quality ingredients. The friendly and helpful staff provided an exceptional dining experience. Maria, the owner, shared her touching love story, adding a nostalgic touch. It's now one of my favorite Lisbon restaurants. A must-visit for those seeking authentic Portuguese cuisine and heartfelt hospitality!

An absolute gem hiding in an inconspicuous location. We came here on our first night in Lisbon and enjoyed it so much that we returned on our final day. Nothing beats being fed by someone that treats you as if you're family! You can taste the love and passion in the cooking. Our favourite dishes were the clams, prawns, octopus and grilled sardines. We would have tried the entire menu if we could. Thanks for a wonderful couple of visits!

Food was outstanding (5 stars), but service was not. We had the octopus and cod, which were both phenomenal. However, we had to wait a long time to be seated and attended (table cleaned, given a menu etc). The waitress brought the water and food, however, forgot to bring the glasses and cutlery (and had to be reminded twice to bring them). In conclusion, would definitely recommend this place as long as service is not your priority.

Throughout my 8 day stay in Portugal, this might have been the best meal I had eaten there. And that includes a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Lisboa Tu & Eu is a little hole in the wall with probably about 10 tables. Our party of 6 came at around 9 on a Saturday. We waited about half an hour but were lucky to get a table. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share: -Mix board – this came with various meats/cheeses. I enjoyed the jamon but wasn’t a huge fan of the chorizo (?). The cheese were good. If you want bread, you need to order it separately -Octopus salad – this was nice and light, and the octopus was very tender. I believe it was drizzled with olive oil. It was simple but perfect - Bulhão pato clams – these are clams with garlic and lemon. Again, simple but good. The fewer ingredients, the better – then you can really taste the seafood -Squid – I am not even lying to you when I say this is the best squid I have ever eaten in my entire life. They give you huge meaty chunks and it just melts in your mouth. It’s not like the US, where it’s calamari rings that taste like rubberbands. These were SO good. I still have dreams about it. It was a tad on the saliter side but I still probably could have eaten a whole thing by myself -Grilled sardines – these had a nice flavor but I guess I may not be a fan of sardines in general because I hate picking out the little bones -Bacalhau (salted cod) à Brás – this is salted cod with thin strips of crispy fried potatoes. It’s almost like their version of a hash brown but with fish. I never knew fish and potatoes could go so well together -Shrimp à Brás – this was good but I think one dish à Bráswould have been enough. It’s pretty filling. If you are getting one, I would probably opt for the cod. Both of the à Brás are a bit on the salty side too, so you can’t really eat much of it After dinner, they give you some markers so you can graffiti on the wall! It was a cute experience but good luck finding real estate space. If you can, I’d recommend going with a smaller group, that way you have a greater chance of nabbing a table. If I ever find myself in Lisbon again, I would come back for that squid.

If you're in Lisbon, this is the go-to spot for an authentic culinary experience. The food is not just delicious—it's exceptional. The beef with potatoes is an absolute standout. The Portuguese sausage bursts with flavor, showcasing the richness of local cuisine. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between vibrant and cozy. It feels like dining with your extended family, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. Highly recommended

This place is definitely a must-visit. It's not a "luxury" place at all and moreover it's a place you may think to not to go to when you look on their interior photos. But that is just their style, their point, their special thing: they let their guests to left a sign or a drawing or any mark on their walls and ceiling. And after you'd overcome the thought "what a mess" you'll start to find some things that close to you, that you'd understand. What about food? It's just great! We've been there twice and all of the food was very delicious! We've tried Garlic Shrimps Salad, Fried octopus with potato, vegan pasta, squid salad, potato and vegetables (It was two side dishes combined into one plate), fried potato with fish and egg (idk the right name of this meal. There's also its variation with shrimps instead of fish) and sangria were very very delicious! Their staff can understand your English questions about the food and kinda explain its contents to you. But if you don't know Portuguese it'd be better to look through some pictures of food here in the reviews section before and then just show the staff those pics of food you've chosen to eat :) And they also accept cards (but prefer cash). The prices may seem a bit high for such place but it worth it :) I can recommend this place for a visit.

Amazing dinner with my wife. We arrived when they opened and got a table after which it quickly filled in. The service was very good and friendly. We had the sardines with potatoes and the squid with mushroom rice. We had two beer, jug of house red, bread and olives. The total cost with tip was 40e. Very treasonable price. I highly recommend this place.

Definitely try out this restaurant if you're looking for great food and a cute story. We were lucky to be served by Maria the owner. Such a sweet lady! The sausages are out of this world and the best I've ever tried! We tried 7 different dishes together with a large group and they were all amazing. Definitely recommend trying out this place!

This is the type of place that makes you think of home. It has a great history and even better food. It's great to get many plates here and share items such as the cod, shrimp, and clams. Beautiful interior with marking from various people. It carries a beautiful story shared by a caring staff that makes your visit a time to remember.

My husband and I dined here on our first night in Lisbon. We were recommended this restaurant by our friends and we can see why! The meals were fresh, authentic and delicious. The decor is eclectic with a fun, casual vibe. We were also touched by the story behind the restaurant and enjoyed the kind, warm service of the staff. You can tell how loved they are from all the writing on the walls! The location was also great, and we went for a nice evening stroll by the waterfront after dinner.

Stumbled across this place when exploring Lisbon. Caught our eye when we saw the outside seating tucked away at the top of a narrow street. It’s a really cute spot with some fantastic food. The prawns were some of the chunkiest I’ve had and were cooked to perfection. The clams were delicious too and they serve some lovely bread, all at reasonable prices. Definitely a spot to check out!

A cute out of the way restaurant in the historic centre of Lisbon. The food is great but so is the story of the owner who without any formal training creates delicious masterpieces. A small but delicious menu with Portuguese classics. We had grilled sardines and octopus salad, would definitely order again. The place is small so you may have to wait but it’s worth it. On a nice day sit outside for all of the charm Lisbon has to offer.

We took a chance at this resto because of the great reviews on Google and since there was no answer when we called to reserve. When we arrived, we had a half hour wait outside on a narrow stair case. Once we got in, service was pretty fast. The food was good but the steak, although it tasted good it was very tough. The garlic shrimps were good. The atmosphere was lively.

A uniquely charming Portuguese eatery with a distinctive flair. The cozy establishment encourages close seating, so arriving early is recommended. The decor is full of character, and the place holds a unique historical charm. The dishes, especially the Bras (highly recommended), showcase authentic and remarkable flavors. The average cost per person is around 15 euros.

The food and service are excellent . The food is fresh and very tasty. Ricardo gave us a "private lesson" on how to prepare and eat sardines. He also stayed with us at the end of the meal and gave us tastes of local beverages. Then we met the owner which was very kind and would even make us a special desert if we we'll ask her in advanced. Would 100% recommend paying them a visit.

The food was blunt, they used loads of wine to cook the food but they overdone it. The seasoning was off. To be honest the restaurant is disappointing because they had 4.7 ranking on Google maps so we were quite excited to try it out. Do not recommend it. Fyi: cash only. Cool wall decorations made out of random peoples drawings.

Such a great and fun place! Fun menu with delicious food. Warm welcome, young clientele and absolute Portuguese cuisine. The garlic fried shrimp was the best dish we had while in Portugal. Absolutely to die for. Desserts… I’d say that’s not why you go to this place.. but come here if you can while in Lisbon.

I read all the great reviews and headed here with great expectations. Decor funky, hostess charming. However, for the price, the food was very average. The Secret pork was too salty to eat. The house wine was from a cardboard box. On leaving you will be offered a shot of home made port with a flourish - and then charged 2 euros for it! A bit disappointing.

I came here for two times. First, I was on a rush and wanted a fast espresso. The stuff was very helpful and made it ready in glance. I then came back and ordered sardines dish, and green wine, both recommended by one of the staff. My dish was very tasty! I will definitely come back again here.

Found this hidden gem on our way back to hotel. Food is of absolute top quality especially Sardines and Clams. Their Grill is constantly busy and you will always get steaming hot food in your plate. Prices are very reasonable as compared to other places in Lisbon. We are planing our next visit tomorrow before flying back to London.

Every single dish here was amazing, definitely lives up to the hype and the long line up its narrow staircase. Most delicious meal we have had during our 3 weeks trip in Portugal and Italy. Their sardine with potatoes is especially flavourful.

This was an incredible dining experience. Not only was the food incredible, but the service and environment were perfect. It felt like we were part of the family. All the words on the walls made it even more fun. A little tip: look up when you get to the bottom of the hill. You have to climb the stairs to get to the restaurant. If you are here in Lisbon though, you have to stop by this place.

Had early lunch to avoid crowd or wait line. There were only few people since we got here little early. Service was amazing. All the dishes are very tasty. Portions were generous and price was very reasonable. As we were getting served, place started to get packed. Try to get here little early to avoid crowd. Highly recommend.

Tu e Eu is the kind of place you always hope to find when travelling. Warm and friendly people, excellent traditional food, pleasant surroundings ... you will feel welcome and comfortable. It's a small place serving a few wonderful Portuguese dishes like the fantastic shrimp in spicy garlic oil, codfish bras (cod mixed with hash-brown potatoes), octopus salad (especially wonderful octopus with diced tomatoes and green peppers in a nice vinaigrette), and grilled sardines. Great wine, craft beer and port. While the food is great, the people are just wonderful. There's a wonderful story by Maria, the owner, about her life as a potter in Santa Cruz (I thought California - but actually Portugal) and more. She's on the left in my photo. I felt like part of the family when I left, and will certainly be back next time I visit Lisbon.

Came here for dinner for our first night in Lisbon and they definitely set the bar for food very high! The restaurant itself is tucked out of the way in an alley and we enjoyed reading the different messages and notes on the walls from years of customer visits. We got the garlic shrimp, octopus, and chicken and all were absolutely delicious - the shrimp in particular were mouthwateringly good - we would return just for this. Don’t forget to finish your meal with a slice of almond cake :) Note: this is a cash only restaurant.

We had such a lovely meal here. The place is not really big but looks nice and chilled inside, cool ambience. The staff is really friendly. They give you the story of the restaurant for you to read and it was such a beautiful touch. The food was really nice, I had the grilled octopus tentacles and they were amaaazing! I would come back if I'm back to Lisbon to have this again!!

WOW! Hands down my favorite place to eat in Lisbon. The food is mind blowing, and the owner has an adorable back story :) Grilled sardines were sosososoooo good! The flavor had balsamic vinegar and red onions, and it paired with the fresh sardines beautifully! Grilled squid tentacles were cooked to perfection and so fresh! Chewy and crispy and soft. I’m salivating even thinking about it. Beef picapau was also so good. The sauce was homey but also complex… but maybe go for the other 2 first. I think the potatoes here are really tasty. Usually I can’t finish the potatoes on my plate, but here I couldn’t get enough! I would come back to this place every day if I could. Also, this place is cash only!

What a tremendous place, food and experience! It's a very coupley place but I went here solo, without reservation (I don't think they take them?...) and was warmly welcomed! The food was great quality, traditional Portuguese, it's a wonderful place to try Sardines for the first time if you haven't! I LOVED the side, 'Migas', a rustic cornbread, beans and cabbage dish that was amazing with the sardines. I also love how cute and tucked away the restaurant is and of course all of the messages written all over the walls, I will be sure to bring a marker next time (and there will be a next time!) The restaurant is very reasonably priced for both food and drink. I am AuADHD & wore loop earplugs which helped a great deal as it is quite loud.

If you are looking for an off-beat, kinda funky, stick-out-from-usual place, this is THE ONE. I did not have any idea about the menu items. Just searched for places with high ratings in the neighbourhood and decided to drop by. Oh boy, turned out to be a great experience. The ambience is lovely. Small place, tiny tables, walls and ceiling (even the AC unit) filled with graffitti by patrons. Courteous staff. Lovely food. There was a short wait when I visited and the staff quickly got me a table. This is exact opposite of upmarket, white collar, affluent, Michelin star places.. but better than some of them. Unique, lively and a place with character.

Localization and nice personel are the only advantages of this hostel. Everything was dirty. The toilet was disgusting and the lock didn't work. We were introduced to Tu & Eu by our private tour guide Silvia as the finale to an afternoon of local fare. There is nothing pretentious about this place but the authenticity shines through in a way that can only happen in a family run business. The dining area faces the kitchen and consists of colourful tables and typical rustic stools. The food is simple and reflects generations of tradition. We enjoyed a generous selection of Cheeses of cow, cow and sheep and cow sheep and goat's milk, all served with artisan bread and a local citrus based pickle. We nibbled on herbed olives whilst a light cod tempura style fritter was prepared in front of us and, when served proved to be deliciously light and subtly flavored. The highlight though was the grilled sardines. Smelling of the sea with a shiny skin and bright eyes, when cooked and served with an onion and balsamic dressing and a garnish of boiled potatoes, these were to die for! Tender, succulent with almost a sweetness about them and perfect with a vinho verde. Don' t come here expecting anything other than simply cooked traditional food served with minimal intervention by the cook. But do expect an honest meal served with pride and be reminded of a meal with a relative or family friend - Tu&Eu is that kind of place. PS and don't forget to leave a message on their wall before you leave!

Delicious Portuguese food. Get there early as it fills up very quickly. The tables are very close together and this made it a little cramped as it got so busy at lunch. This place is great for a casual meal, particularly a lunch. Traditional Portugeuese dishes done very well!

We had an incredible dinner here. We were recommended the garlic shrimps by the nice lady and they were out of this world. You also have to order the bread, the sauce is made for dipping. We also had the codfish with potatoes and onions and eggs and it was very interesting. Loved the sweet rice. Also very goo house white wine. Great service and possibility to pay with card. Very good vibes, you should definitely give this restaurant a try.

It’s quite an authentic place - all the walls are covered with writings from visitors, along with the menu they give a rather touching letter written by the owner of the establishment about the history of this place (I recommend reading it). Also part of the atmosphere is that the restaurant is cramped - you'll probably be forced to share a table with other people, so it's not exactly a romantic place. Unfortunately, the food itself is quite ordinary and I can’t recommend anything from the menu. They also count the check manually, which, firstly, takes quite a long time, and secondly, can lead to an error (in our case, an error actually happened, although in our favor, but still this is completely out of date).

  • 4/5 Lea D. 11 months ago on Google
I enjoyed eating here! My group was in a rush so we did hope to be served quicker but once we communicated our hurry then all went well. The place has a lot of character. If you done inside you can see the kitchen from your seat and the walls are marked with previous customers. The seating inside is tight but there is seating outside. There are also some cool shops very close by!

A little out of the way but definitely worth it. Cozy place with a few but well-thought out dishes. Try the sardines, prawns and cod a bras for an exquisite lunch or dinner. Just be sure to book beforehand or visit when it opens, otherwise you won’t be able to land a sit.

A wonderful dining experience; amazing food and amazing attentive staff :)! We were luckily able to get a table for four without reservation after 20 minutes of waiting at around 20:00. Food came quick and was well loved (and devoured) by everyone at the table. The music playing was also wonderful, every song was enjoyed ;-) Thank you so much for the great time!

The food was okay (good sardines but not so good pork). Small tables, crowded place, but nice atmosphere. However, when it came time to pay, they insisted on cash only, with no prior notice. They later blamed a "card reader issue", but after we pointed out that others are paying by card, they reluctantly accepted it (seemed not happy about it). Quite strange, considering their good rating

A love story that you can savour in every bit and every sip. We had also an open, kind and warm conversation at the end of the night that I'm sure would be rare to find anywhere else. They make you feel at home, it doesn't matter how far away you are. Thanks folks, we will meet again!

Absolutely amazing food! We loved our time here. Maria is an outstanding host and really made us feel at home! We had the prawns, the sardines and a pork dish and all of them were fantastic

Excellent lunch or dinner spot. The rice cod dish was so flavorful and the garlic shrimp were delicious and had the perfect seasoning. Better yet, the owner is truly proud of her food and her life. You can taste the authenticity and the love.

If you're visiting Lisbon, you need to visit at least one of Maria's establishments. If you're lucky, and pick the one she's working that day, then you're in for a real treat. Her smile lights up the room, and her story will bring you to tears. The experience was phenomenal, and I haven't even begun to talk about the food. The seafood tapas are to die for, as are the cocktails, and its great any time of day, brunch, lunch, dinner. There literally isn't a single thing on the menu you can go wrong with. The rest of the staff are very welcoming as well. Show up early, or expect to wait, it's as simple as that, but the experience is well worth any wait. Tu & Eu 4 has a little more experimental of a menu, where as the menu is consistent across the other locations. As I said in the beginning, they're all worth a visit.

Such a cool spot! I wasn’t planning on coming here but so happy I did. My waiter Ricardo was lovely, friendly, and just all around awesome. Family vibes type of place. And the food was SO good. Loved the clams in the lemon and garlic sauce!!! Yum!

Found this place spontaneously, it is a little bit hidden and quite small. However it has a nice home-like atmosphere. The sardines were tasty as was the wine. The walls and ceiling is covered in people's messages.

Excellent food and even better service by Ricardo. Ricardo went out of his way to get us a table outside on the stairs and was super passionate and helpful when asked about his suggestions on best dishes. The restaurant is hidden in an alley on the stairs which makes it even more special. Highly recommended! We had Grilled squid, Migas (Cornbread), Padrón peppers and Pica-pau Iberian pork.

Amazing food and a great atmosphere. The salted cod and sardines were the best. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. A very laid back atmosphere - so much better than any posh restaurant!

Went there two days in a row for an extensive lunch. Cute, small-scale restaurant where they cook with passion. Had lovely sardines and squid dishes, as well as a delicious glass of porto wine. And then rice pudding... if you have the chance, go here.

Best dining experience I have had in Lisbon. Amazing service and the food was good. I feel so happy and satisfied after our dinner there. The staff gave me a pen to write on the wall - it’s so fun and memorable! Will definitely come back in my next visit to Lisbon.
