One of the best places in Lisbon, Portugal. There is an entrance to the top of "Arco da Rua Augusta." I strongly recommend visiting it. There is a spectacullar view of the city, particularly the plaza. On the top, there are not that many people, and I believe it's because not many people know about it. As of May 2022, the entrance is three euros.

(Translated by Google) The Triumphal Arch of Rua Augusta has always impressed me. But for those who can visit the top of this unique monument and have a truly unique and impressive view of Baixa de Lisboa and the Tagus river it is truly fantastic, with a 360º view it is well worth paying € 3. Inside, it is possible to observe engravings and texts on the history of this triumphal arch, from the beginning of its construction, after the 1755 earthquake, until its conclusion in 1875. (Original) O Arco Triunfal da Rua Augusta sempre me impressionou.

(Translated by Google) It was built between 1515 and 1521 in memory of the discovery trip of Vasco da Gama by King Manuel I of Portugal. Next to it is a very interesting military technical museum.

Meh... when it comes to triumphal arches go this one is as average as the rest of Lisbon. Nothing really stands out here, the arch is barely taller than the surrounding buildings and it is incorporated into the architecture around it. In other words it does not stand on its own like Roman arches or the Parisian triumphal arch. It is the gateway to the Commerce Plaza, and it acts as the capstone of the pedestrian Rua Augusta, but its mostly unremarkable and you will forget about it as soon as its out of sight.

Beautiful and grand gothic arch that marks the beginning of Rua Augusta. It's nicely situated on the north end of the plaza, the commercial. So this is a landmark that You won't miss and can't miss. You will see it miles away, just like the Arc de triumph of Paris.

Beautiful and impressive tower. At the moment (as of August 2020) the upper level is closed due to CoViD which makes the visit pretty short with not much too see. The sight is included in the Lisboa Card. So when you have the card and there is no line you can go and check it out. Otherwise paying for it not really worth it. The view from the outside is sufficiently enjoyable.

Rua-Augusta Arch is a historic stone building resembling the Triumphal Arch, dedicated to the reconstruction of the city after the earthquake (1755 year ). It has six columns, about 11 m high. Each is represented by a statue of a different historical figure. The middle of the arch is filled with the Portuguese coat of arms, as well as on the other side of the arch, you can find the city clock This arch borders the commercial square. It is one of the tourist sightseeing in Lisbon . Worth to visit

It’s a lovely and happening place with lots people playing their style of music. Sea front is also refreshing with a view. Lots of Colors which makes this area a quite picturesque one. We spent around 2-3 hours at this place, just laying by the sea was very nice and calm.

Great views from the top. If you have a spare 20 minutes, at €2.50 each, take ride to the second floor in the lift and use the steps the rest of the way to get to the top. The views are really great both looking out over the Tagus River but also back across the vista of Lisbon.

Tejo is one of the icons of the city of Lisbon. When it was built it was completely surrounded by the waters of the river, but over the centuries it has been surrounded by the beach and today it is on dry land. Its construction is due to the wishes of King D. Manuel I to reinforce the defensive line of the Portuguese coast and took place between the years

Really nice medieval and touristic tower to visit. During sunset the pictures are amazing. You should definitely go. Open until 18:30 but from October to April 17:30. You can see from outside anyway.

You really can’t miss it when visiting Lisboa City and walking across Praça do Commércio. From some angles it appears to be the keyhole to open up the city. In every way it is the gate to downtown and leads directly to one of the main streets, Rua Augusta. But you shouldn’t just walk by or underneath it. It’s worth a visit to the platform on the roof where you can spot a complete 360 of the city. The ticket is 3 € and after passing the entry turn cross an elevator takes you up two storages. The rest you have to make in two stages using spiral staircases. Notice the traffic lights — when red check the button and if it’s turning green then you’re good to go on. First you’ll reach the clock room with some information about the time measure instrument. When you finally made it to the top enjoy the breathtaking views all around.

Once considered to be the gateway to the city of Lisboa... now a very important tourist attraction & place with multiple eateries & small shops... You can get in to the city street car from here which is a great way to see around. There are multiple restaurants around where you can sit & relax & have small bites & drinks. There is also museum of beer 🍺 where you can try numerous beers & also get some souvenirs...

It's definitely worth a visit to this monument. On top of the arch, you'll have a splendid view over the square below and the centre of Lisbon. The statues on top of the arch are beautiful as well. Another good thing is the cheap entrance price of €3,50

A beautiful monument to the reconstruction of Lisbon. We paid a small fee (3€ each) to take the elevator up into the arch, then climbed a spiral staircase to an upper room where we saw the clock mechanism and some historical information about the construction of the arch. Another spiral staircase leads to the observation deck on top, with wonderful views of Rua Augusta and the surrounding city on one side and the Plaza and the river beyond it on the other.

Arco da Rua Augusta in Lisbon, regardless of the time you visit it, is absolutely splendid. The quiet evening was accompanied by ambient music that kept you in the middle of a dreamy atmosphere, in a completely unique landscape. The morning was sunny, the state shining in the warm rays of the sun. The police provide security by being permanently in the area. There are many bars and places where you can eat or just enjoy a fresh orange. I will return to this place when I arrive in Lisbon. I recommend with confidence!

(Translated by Google) Emblematic place in the city of Lisbon. Descending from Rossio, through Rua Augusta, the arch of Rua Augusta is the gateway to Praça do Comércio or also known as Terreiro do Paço. This square, previously used as a car park, has adapted to modern times when these squares become an ex-libris of any European city. Anyone who climbs the arch can get an overview of this square and see the design on the floor that goes unnoticed when walking on it. In the background we have the pier of the columns where you can see a sunset looking at the bridge 25 de Abril and Cristo rei. Very impressive structure that has stood so long protecting the mouth of Lisbon. It was beautiful to walk by the river and take pictures of in the afternoon. The only drawback is how far from the Afalma district it is, prepare to Uber or public transportation as it is a very long walk. Would still highly recommend going to see this impressive piece of architecture.

It is free for Lisbon card holders but you need to show your card and get an entry ticket. We reached at 10.30am when it opens at 10am so it was very empty, no queue and no crowd at the top. Would recommend to go early so you can relax on the top. The view is amazing ! There is a lift but after the lift you need to climb a few stairs. They are narrow but not a difficult climb. The view is amazing of the city and the sea both sides but you can’t see the big sculpture from the top of course.

This magnificent Arch is one of the most emblematic tourist attractions in Lisbon and after going there I understood why so pretty. I loved it during the day and night time too. But it is best when you see it at night because you can see with the nice lighting the have, all the detail the made to this arch years ago. (Translated by Google) The Rua Augusta Arch (Portuguese: Arco da Rua Augusta) is a historic building and attraction for visitors from Lisbon, Portugal, on Praça do Comércio. It was built to commemorate the reconstruction of the city after the earthquake of 1755. It has six columns (about 11 m high) and is adorned with statues of various historical figures. The significant height from the crown of the arch to the cornice gives the structure an appearance of weight. The associated space is filled with the coat of arms of Portugal. The allegorical group at the top, made by the French sculptor Célestin Anatole Calmels, represents Gloria rewarding Valor and Genius. Originally conceived as a bell tower, the building was transformed into an arch elaborated after more than a century. Beautiful, but not 'amazing'. Definitely visit this site during your stay in Lisbon, but don't expect too much from it. The history behind the tower was the most impressive part. Easily accessable by taking a bike tour or using the metro/train. Walking is also possible, but might take a while from the city centre.

Arco da Rua Augusta is one of historical place to visit while you visit Lisbon. We went here the last time in June 2022. Pros: 1. The location is in the city center of Lisbon. It is on the famous street of Rua Augusta. 2. The arco has a beautiful architecture. 3. You can visit the place for free. Cons: 1. The place is too crowded because so many people want to take a picture here, especially in the morning and afternoon.

  • 5/5 Ashley P. 1 year ago on Google
A cheap ticket, and while it’s a short visit, loved the views from the top of the arch. A really beautiful area. It wasn’t busy at all and locals said tourists don’t realize they can go up there.

We decided to drop into this with no expectations. There was no line up. The elevator to the top gave the impression that this is a newly renovated experience and the clever and simple red light/ green light system at the top to manage crowding on the narrow staircase at the top of the arch was helpful to avoid congestion and make it a simple and easy experience. The view is beautiful and equals those found throughout the city. The working clockworks is on display and the bell at the top is loud but more fun than disturbing. You can even ring the bell yourself - which is silly but fun.

This was my favourite thing to do in Lisbon. We went in February on a late Saturday morning. There were no queues. Tickets were relatively cheap €5-6. This allows you to use the elevator but there are still some steps to climb- not too many, it's manageable. They have a good system where you push a button to know when it's safe to go up the stairs. The views from the top were spectacular. Absolutely loved this. 😍 worth a visit

  • 5/5 William S. 1 year ago on Google
A wonderful tourist place. There are many bars and restaurants nearby, especially on Rua Augusta. The view from Arco at night is even more beautiful. It's really worth the experience of visiting, even more so because it's a totally free place.

  • 4/5 A R. 7 months ago on Google
Having heard this was available to climb, we went up and were greeted not only with the view from above of the Praça do Comércio, but also with up close looks of the statues at the top of the arch, as well as a timeline of the arch's lifetime. With a budget friendly price to tickets, even if the stay is limited to 15 minutes at the top, it is worth the climb. Just be sure to take some sunscreen or a hat/cap if it's sunny.

This is probably the most popular location in Lisbon. The square is huge. The archway is splendid and you can go through it to get to the center of Lisbon. You won't miss this place during your trip in Lisbon.

A lovely square to walk around. I lived around when having my holidays at Lisbon. Great location - close to a lot of attractions and when it was sunny the view is really open and nice. It is also at a great transportation area, loads of shops, restaurant and bus station near by! The most amazing part is that it is so close to the river and you could enjoy the stunning view!

Great views, cheap entrance. You won't be able to enter the top with a stroll or a wheelchair. You can leave the stroll near the entrance with nice ladies and take your child with you in arms. After the elevator, stairs are very narrow so it won't be easy with a child in arms but it's manageable.
