Really nice view to the city. Instead of taking the lift up which is always a long wait, I will also recommend some people they can equally take the lift on the top next to the museum which never has any weight. The great thing to note is that the 24 hour metro bus and tram pass at $6.50 also includes the access to this lift as well as de Santa Gloria Elevator as well.

The elevator itself is unique and has a very interesting construction. The view from the top is also worth checking. But the fact that the elevator is running once every ~10/15 min causes big queues and it's way easier and faster to just get to the top by foot. Also, the price is way too expensive for the 15-sec ride. I recommend using it with a 24-hour metro/bus ticket.

Very unique elevator the takes you up the hills of Lisbon. This one is super popular because if it's unique shape. There's usually a long line so plan to wait for ~30 min. But once you are on top, you get a spectacular view especially after dark.

The building looks brilliant and is a work of art. There is a lift to get to the top, which is chargeable. However if you walk up to the museum, to the side, you can enter the tower for free and still walk around the top! Lovely 360 panoramic views at the top. Access to restaurants and bars around the whole area.

We went up there twice. The first time we waited the elevator for 40 minutes. The view is great but if I knew there is a way that you can walk up there I wouldn’t have waited. Second time We walked up, through the path next to the museum. Night time view was also beautiful.

Long queue to get to the lift, had to queue for 1 hour and it was €6 per person to go up the lift. Great views from upstairs. On exiting, you walk down some stairs. You can easily walk up these stairs to access the views if you do not want to queue for the lift and then it's free access also.

2002-present Four stars due to the fact that there is a fee and I feel it’s not necessary. The building looks lovely and is a work of art and architecture. There is a lift to get to the top, which is has a fee. However if you walk up to the museum, to the side, you can enter the tower for free and still walk around the top! Outstanding 360 panoramic views at the top. Access to restaurants and bars around the whole area.

I liked its design and the view from the top but I didn't like that they charge you if you want to take the lift itself. I found the ticket was expensive so I decided not to take it and only enjoy the view. There are many restaurants/ cafe nearby so you can enjoy your meal/drink while admiring the view

I think the best part of the Santa Justa Lift is the view from above. I used the back entrance across the street, and the walk-up was amazing. You don't need to ride the lift. No one was really using it. Use the stairs across the street behind the stores. There are a few spots to stop and take pictures before you get to the lift. The lift area is super busy. Its right by the main streets and tons of people just walking by.

(Translated by Google) It was designed by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, it is also known as Elevador do Carmo, until 1907 it operated on steam. It is the only vertical elevator in Lisbon that works as a public service, it costs 5.30 € for the trip. At the top of the elevator there is a restaurant with a terrace. In 1755 it suffered no damage from the earthquake.

Very popular tourist place. Even in November there was so long queue. Price is a little bit high, 3€ to go 2 floors. But if you bought a 24 hours ticket to use all transport in Lisbon you also can do it here. The view from the top will impress you

The lift is an extraordinary fixture in Lisbon with its metallic exterior and industrial shape, (much like Eiffel tower) but still manages to blend in perfectly with the city. We did not take the lift itself (as there was quite a row) but climbed the streets to the top, which allowed exploring the neighborhood and offered nice views of the city from the top (the platform on top is accessible without extra cost). This is a must see if you visit Lisbon.

The view is nice but there is always a long queue. We came twice and the first time we waited for 30 minutes still couldn’t get it. The second time we came in the late evening and waited for 20 minutes and finally got up. If you don’t want to wait and are not bothered to try the lift, you can still see the great view from the balcony next to the Largo do Carmo.

Firstly, what you should know (& we didn’t!!) was that you can actually walk up to the viewing platform that the lift takes you to via some stairs from the street behind! Only stand in the queue (which will take you around 45min-1hour) to experience the ride not the views! You can’t see anything extra in the ride up and it is over very quickly! They take about 18 people every 15 minutes so you can judge how long you will be in the queue. We used our Lisbon Cards to travel for free.

There was a long queue but the views are worth it as well as the access to the Barrio Alto with some great places to eat and pretty streets and squares to enjoy. If you buy the daily ticket for the Metro 6.80 euros the lift is included in the price!

A unique view this place offers whereby you may have an overall aerial look at Lisbon, the queue was quite long and it took us around half an hour standing in the sun. Therefore, be prepared especially during the heat of the summer. The lift itself looks antique, in my opinion it is a must visit attraction in Lisbon's downtown. I visited it twice during the day and night.

Easy to come down from the upper part of town, however long ques when trying to get up from the lower level (city) of the lift. This problem can be easily overcome by using a set of stairs, which gets you up to the desired level within 10 minutes by food. When standing in the front of the lift, turn to the left and walk maybe 100 meters, you will see a staircase, which will bring you up to the upper level of the old town.

nice to view the city from this.. Very popular tourist place. Even in Jan there was queue. Price is a little bit high, 3€ to go 2 floors. But we went to the other side of the lift and you can reach the top with free of cost. The view from the top will impress you. So if you don't want to wait in a queue you may reach the oldest chruch Igreja do Carm, there is way right outside that church which will lead you towards the stairs of Santa Justa to view the city.

I find it a little pricey (5,30 euro) for what it offers. Good deal if you have a 24 hour ticket on all public transport în Lisbon, because the elevator is included. I wouldn't say it's a must when you visit Lisbon. It's usually very busy and the queue is quite long, but I was lucky it was raining, so there were only a few people waiting, so I got in very fast.

DON'T take the Elevator! The view over is free if you use the stairs. Yes, the elevator is nice but waiting 1 hour for a 10 second ride makes no sense. If you want to take nice pictures here, you should be there at sunset.

The lift is cool. There are fantastic views from the top. However, the wait is very long, and it's not cheap. The alternative is you walk up and explore the streets and shops on your way up and save yourself the time and money. There are also countless other spots in Lisbon with great views at the top of hills. I'd say it's worth checking out, as it's very interesting, but there's no need to actually ride it, given how much time and money you'll waste. Visit, have a look, take some photos, then move along. Of course, your mileage may vary and it may be worth it for you.

We did not want to wait in the line to ride the elevator, we took the backstairs up to see the view and see the old mechanics and building. The view is well worth it and there is a cute cafe at the top as well as several balcony bars to enjoy a coffee or beer. I highly recommend going for the views there are photo points and it is kept clean.

6€ return ticket, only cash, or free with the Lisbon card. It was interesting to see the city in the dark, but nothing extraordinary or any unique panorama. But the lift itself is pretty interesting, and worth a picture in the dark. Do not rely on the opening hours here on Google Maps. One night it was already closed at 7 PM, and the other, my group was the last one, at around 6:30 PM.

Lined up for at least 40 minutes and the Lisbon transportation card can help you save the 5.3 euro ticket. Otherwise you have to pay for the ticket. A lift took you up to the deck to enjoy the nice city view. On the other side of the dock is the way to the Carmo Church. There are some rooftop bars with live music out there.

The elevator is fine (don’t expect to have a view while going up), and the view is fantastic. However, the downside is the incredibly long queue - I had to wait for about an hour. If it weren’t for the queue, I would have given this place 4 stars. The admission is quite cheap, and it allows you to step out onto the street above. I’d advise against visiting if there’s a significant queue.

To be honest. It's a lovely structure but the queues are ridiculous and I visited in October. I didnt pay the fee to go up in a lift and went to the side of the museu arquelogico just above and behind it, ie where the lift goes up to. There is a viewing platform here so you get the views without wasting time and money queing.

It’s a very good example of great engineering in the early 18th century. But you have to pay 5.30€ to get on it and there is a long line that will take you 10 to 15 minutes. The better option is the hike to the top and see the same view for Free. Good thing we took a free city tour and guide showed us the route to see the views on top.

Really nice and very old lift. You can go there and have the view without paying, is almost the same, just go upstairs by foot instead of trying to go using the lift, do the opposite and you'll have the view next to the medieval cathedral in ruins ;)

So if you go to the other side of the street, there is a small entrance to a bar. If you take the elevator you can walk up to the lift without paying for entrance.. the view is just as good as all the rooftop bars. But the entrance is still very impressive. Even during Corona there was a waiting line.

It’s a cool looking structure but the views from the top are average. You can get better sights for free from one of the many other viewpoints in Lisbon. If you must go, I recommend going via the walk way from Carmo church rather using the lift.

It is a beautiful structure and the elevator car is gorgeous but it only runs every 20 minutes. So take some pictures from the bottom and then walk to the top for more pictures. You can walk out onto the platform. It’s just not worth the wait or expense.

I would say it takes exceptionally long to get in line to reach this elevator, but it is quite efficient and if you take the travel card at a metro station, it gives you a free pass to use this elevator (just like the famous Tram 28). However, you will have to pay 1.20 Euro extra to be able to climb a vertiginous spiral staircase in the air to reach the top of the tower and see the panoramic views of Lisbon.

This is a world famous elevator in Central Lisbon – almost the best description would be that it is a stand alone structure of approximately 50 metres or so in height. One can purchase tickets and go to the top of the viewing arena/gallery at the top of the structure. The entire structure looks quite menacing to me actually because it is almost entirely made with steel, a bit cold in the middle of the warm coloured buildings of Lisbon. The view from the top is quite good- but nothing spectacular. Better vistas elsewhere. Definitely worth a visit though, but can be avoided if queue’s are unending.

(Translated by Google) This is another creation of the Eiffel. To get on the elevator, you need to stand in a long line. And you can do more economically and come from the "backyard" for free and without queuing. But it's not so interesting. Observation decks are good, but in Lisbon there are more beautiful). (Original) Це ще одне творіння Ейфеля. Щоб піднятися ліфтом, потрібно вистояти довжелезну чергу. А можна поступити економніше і зайти з "заднього" двору безкоштовно і без черги. The Santa Justa elevator is in the center of Lisbon, leaving one of the main streets, Rua Augusta. We went on a Thursday at noon, around 2:00 p.m., and we were able to go up to the viewpoint without queuing too much. If I remember correctly, the ticket to go up is approximately € 5, and I think that to go down it was € 5 more. We had the Viva Viajem card, with daily tickets for the 4 days we were there. Each daily ticket is € 6.40 and that already allows you unlimited access for 24 hours to the metro, tram, bus and some other activities, such as the Santa Justa elevator, so we do not pay anything extra. You go up in a beautiful wooden elevator and when you get to the top there are spectacular views of the city and the sea. It is very worth visiting!

The view is nice from the top, but there is no reason to wait in a queue that moves very slow in a small corridor and pay 5 euro, if climb up the street ( look for the Carmo Covent), you are going to end up, in a small area with a few restaurants, one I believe is called Como, or something like that. And there you will see a small street going down between some buildings, if you take that no queue no 5 euro, and you get to enjoy the view. In short the view is nice, but the lift, to me is just a scam for tourists

Good experience with impressive views of the city at the top and you can tell it forms a part of the culture and history of Lisbon. It is a must see however, it really is not worth paying for a ticket to go up unless you have a Lisboa Card then it is FREE - beware it can que. Once you get to the top and walk along the platform there is a restaurant and then steps to walk down and you come out round the side of the Convento do Carmo - no ticket requierd!

5,30€ i think is a bit to expensive compared with the transportation prices in town. It's true that isca tower older 100 years, and you can used twice. But not special view from the elevator, plus long queues and not possible to access higher part of tower. It was closed. Plus you can enter to the panoramic view from the barrio alto

Nice landmark to see when visiting Lisbon. Unfortunately the queues were way too long for us to wait to go up in the lift to the viewing platform. I would say Lisbon is very hilly and you can get some amazing views for free from other places in the city so this isn't a must do in Lisbon especially if you are short on time. The construction of buildings next to the lift took away some of its charm.

A really cool tourist spot that draws in big crowds to go up and check out the views of the city. While not expensive at all, just 2 euros in 2023, the line can be long and slow. Alternatively, you can get the same views if you go through the convent and just pay the fee upstairs.

Santa Justa Lift in Lisbon Like the vintage streetcars that run-in Portugal’s capital, this Lift is not only a convenient means of transportation, but has also become a popular tourist attraction. The Santa Justa Lift is an elevator in Lisbon and is the fastest way to get from the Baixa neighbourhood to the Bairro Alto district. It was inaugurated as one of the city’s public transport systems on 10 July 1902 and was called Elevador do Carmo (Carmo Lift). Lisbon’s inhabitants were so excited to try this novelty that on the first day, 3,000 tickets were sold. The Lift was a huge success, as before it existed, it was very difficult to travel from upper to lower Lisbon and vice versa. The Carmo Lift was originally powered by steam until the 6 November 1907, when an electric motor was put in place. The Santa Justa Lift as a tourist attraction The Elevador de Santa Justa stands 147 Ft (45m) tall and the structure is built in the same style as the renowned French architect, Eiffel. The similarity between his designs and this Elevator is not accidental, as it was built by Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard, who was an admirer of Gustave Eiffel and applied the same techniques used in some of the funiculars in France of the time. The Lift has a stunning observation deck at the top and offers magnificent views over Baixa. Since it was opened to the public, it has become one of the most popular viewpoints in Lisbon. Curiously, this lift can carry 20 people upwards, but can only take 15 people down. Nevertheless, when it was first inaugurated, it held up to 24 people. Location Rua Santa Justa (in Baixa). Schedule May to October: 7 am - 11 pm. November to April: 7 am - 10 pm. Price Elevator: € 5.15 (US$ 6.30) (return). Viewpoint: € 1.50 (US$ 1.80) (elevator not included) Transport Metro: Baixa / Chiado‎, blue and green lines. Nearby places Rossio Square in Lisbon (184 m) Baixa (196 m) São Jorge Castle (529 m) Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) (567 m) Lisbon Cathedral (589 m)

A striking black structure juxtaposed against the surrounding buildings. Definitely worth seeing when in Lisbon. I'm not sure I would bother queuing and paying to go up it though as the queue tends to be very long. Instead, head to the Convento do Carmo and from there you can walk across to the level below the viewing platform.

(Translated by Google) The Elevador de Santa Justa, also called Elevador do Carmo, is an elevator that connects the Baixa Pombalina and Chiado neighborhoods in Lisbon. It rises on Calle de Santa Justa and connects this central promenade with Praza do Carmo, next to the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo. This elevator was designed by Raúl Mesnier de Ponsard, who was also responsible, in this same city, for the construction of the Elevador da Lavra. The relationship of this engineer with the famous Gustave Eiffel is not proven. It is only known that the engineer Raoul Mesnier and the French architect Louis Reynaud applied some of the techniques and materials already used in France to these elevators. It is one of the tourist attractions of the city, although long lines sometimes discourage visiting or using it, since it is still in operation. From its upper floor there are magnificent views of the Baixa, Alfama and Bairro Alto (Original) El Elevador de Santa Justa, también llamado Elevador do Carmo, es un ascensor que une los barrios de la Baixa Pombalina y el Chiado  en Lisboa. The "Elevator de Santa Justa" was built in 1902 and represents an impressive connection between the two districts of Baixa and Chiado. The passenger elevator is completed by a steel bridge. The tower of the elevator is about 45 meters high. The elevator is definitely an architectural highlight for a visit to Lisbon.

Nice view - unfortunately the top roof is closed due to Corona however (I assume) not as crowded as usually. Definitely worth to go as it is for free as well. Don’t miss it

  • 1/5 Andy M. 2 years ago on Google
The top levels of the elevator platform are closed, so you cannot see from the actual viewing platform, as of 9.23.2021. Save your 5,30 euro per person, and get to the same level the elevator stops at, by going behind the museum of archeology. The image attached to my post is where you go, to save some euros :) happy travels!

Ong lines at the lift that only went up every 35 Minutes. Finally left and WALKED UP THE Hill. We wasted a long time for the lift

  • 3/5 Armando D. 2 years ago on Google
Not much to see.. we have arrived just before closing time, we were the last crowd to get in, and I think we spent like maximum 3 minutes up în the tower... the lady was in a rush to close..

This lift is very popular touristic place and you can find to this place follow large tourist groups. But I am not sure there is deserve this popularity and ticket price. But even though you should visit if you near to this location.

  • 3/5 Jainif M. 1 year ago on Google
I passed by this and went up to it however I didn’t get a chance to ride the elevator since the tickets are purchased either online or from a kiosk at the base of another building that I didn’t want to walk to. The elevator takes you one floor up from the second or third floor that you’re already on and apparently it’s not really worth it if you’re doing the other sites that provide better views so I’m glad I skipped it

  • 2/5 Mitchell H. 2 years ago on Google
The views are good from on top of the lift but the day we visited the top level was closed off which would have given better views. The wait was very long for what it was, I could have walked to the top faster than I queued. I had a free pass from a previous tour but I would not have paid for it without that.

  • 5/5 Jill L. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely worth seeing. We did not pay to ride the lift, but you can walk from bottom to top the ‘long way round’, or alternatively use the sneaky free lift to be found at the top of the steps behind the lift to the right, accessed through a small tourist ‘shop’ selling cork goods (see photos). It doesn’t get you all the way to the high level walkway, but it gets you half way there and IT’S FREE plus you get better views of the outside of the lift. You can walk around the lower viewing platform at the top of the lift FOR FREE; the highest viewing platform is currently closed.

Getting a ride in one of the oldest lifts in Lisbon it was worth it. The interior oc the lift it still has got all of the original fixtures in it. The view from the top it was good but the viewpoint it was closed on the day I have visited.

A great thing to do if you want to see Lisbon from a height. the tower overlooks Lisbon old town and out to the sea. cost was approx 20€ for a family of 4. we took the lift up and had a walk around then walked back down to the town.

  • 5/5 Debs M. 7 months ago on Google
A great experience! We queued for around 30 minutes and used our travel day pass to use the lift for free. Inside is beautiful but there isn't a view as you rise. The view from the top is great and even though I'm not Greta with heights I felt safe. The upper area/ viewing gallery wasn't open but you could see fine without that.

  • 5/5 Jeff H. 6 months ago on Google
If you have lisboa card, it is included in the card. There is very long line in the bottom. It is better to get in the elevator from the top. Also, view from the top is beautiful. Elevator is constantly getting good maintenance. Inside of the elevator was well kept. You should try once.

  • 5/5 Robert M. 5 months ago on Google
Really cool building, I would say it's worth the wait if you've got some time. There is a great view of Lisbon from the top of the lift. A tip is to go up using stairs and use the lift to get to the bottom if you don't necessarily want to use the elevator just to get up. If you do this, you'll skip the wait for the elevator because the line is just at the bottom of it. I recommend reading the lifts history while waiting to use it

  • 2/5 Marco P. 5 months ago on Google
First, you do not need to pay and queue. Just go all the way around and you will be at the top for free. Second, the view is not that great. There are many others points around Lisbon to have a better view of the whole city.

  • 4/5 Pawan R. 4 months ago on Google
We took the lift late evening. Had to wait about 15 minutes in queue. We had gotten a 24 hour metro card and lift is included, which was a plus. Else you have to pay about 6 Euros per person per ride. The view from the top is spectacular.

  • 3/5 Wil H. 5 months ago on Google
Nice view at the top but you will have to prepare yourself for the wait going up. There are other places around the area where you can see the same view while having a drink or snack.
