Absolutely beautiful. From all the historic pieces to the original walls and steps of the monastery and the court yards all the way up to the views from the tower. Well worth the 5€ to enter. I went in just to photograph from the top and ended up spending 2 hours just wandering around inside in awe of the beauty and rich history of the place.

I stumbled across this on the way to the Pantheon (which was shut) and how lucky I was. Almost no one was here (perhaps because it's not included in the Lisboa card), but it is magnificent. The architecture is the antithesis of St Jerome's - conservative and plain Vs dramatic ostentation. The interpretation is excellent, the variety of religious exhibits Vs architecture Vs the panorama from the top would make this a really top tip for visitors. And for anyone who likes the local tiles there is an extraordinary display of illustrated fables.

This is actually a complex of two buildings - the Church and the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora. The entrance to the church is free. The church itself, although quite beautiful and majestic, did not make much of an impression, but the monastery is another matter. However, keep in mind that there is a fee to enter the monastery.

Church itself is okay. It also has a monastery with an entrance on the right side of the church. It would be best if you visit the monastery, this is a magnificent place. It must be on the list of "must-visit places" in Lisbon. The entrance fee is five euros per person as of June 2022. It has gorgeous tiles and the best collection of shells I've ever seen. Please visit the pantheon with tombs of monarchs. Go to the top of the roof, where you will see a breathtaking panoramic view of Lisbon.

What a surprise hidden gem. A MUST SEE if you are in Lisboa. It's only a $5 pp entry fee (cash). The entrance is below, to the right of the church in the courtyard. It had so many cool things to see, especially at the top of the roof, giving an INCREDIBLE VIEW. The history shown in there in unreal. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO THERE.

(Translated by Google) When we thought we had already seen the most important places in our history, here we were able to visit the Church and Monastery of São Vicente de Fora. This Monument dating from the 16th century is of a size and architecture that impresses the visitor. Currently the Headquarters of the Patriarchate of Lisbon, where is its own Museum, in which we can see pieces of painting, sculpture, jewelery and vestments, the Pantheon of the Patriarchs and the Royal House of Bragança. In addition to the largest collection of Baroque tiles in the same space, from which I highlight the Fables of La Fontaine and a great exhibition of bivalves from our sea coast. On the terrace of this Monastery we can observe Lisbon in 360º, the Tagus River, the houses of the most emblematic neighborhoods in the city, the National Pantheon, the Feira da Ladra, etc. I strongly recommend a visit to this Monument.

The church is located right by the area where Feira da Ladra takes place. The church is full of the famous Portuguese tiles and has an ecclesiastical museum. The church also has nice views of Lisbon. The church museum does have an entrance fee but it’s worth looking around when in Alfama.

Loved this stop along our adventure of Lisbon. We visited on a Monday, end of February, about an hour before close (which was perfect since there was maybe 1 or 2 small groups of people in the whole place). Cost 8-10€ per person (I can’t remember but I think it was 8€). Some of the most beautiful pictures I got in Lisbon were from here. Initially being commissioned by King Henriques in 1147, it underwent additions by Felipe I of Portugal and survived the 1755 earthquake (somewhat). It was rebuilt into what we see today, being declared a national monument in 1910 (when the monarchy was abolished & the republic created). There are numerous tombs to view & the azulejos are amazing throughout; the rooftop views really make it worth it. Best viewpoint by far; overseeing the pantheon, the river, & Lisbon life. Highly recommend. If you want to stop and read everything and take your time, I’d advise going at least 2 hours before close. They shut down the main level at 5:30, to be able to close at 6pm. But the sky at this time of the day was unmatchable!

5€ entrance. Beautiful Church, with lot's of Azulejo (painted tiles), ceiling paintings, chapels and great architecture all around. Nice touch that there are mini pictures with fables, from ancient folklore. Don't miss the viewpoint from the top floor. Not compulsory if you're tight on time, but personally, enjoyed my visit.

To me, the most magical church experience in the Lisbon area... Totally worth 5€ (2.5€ for students) to visit the monastery. Maybe it's COVID times but I really felt an oasis of peace and calm there amidst the busy city, just sit on a bench in the cloisters, admire the thousands of intricate tiles, laugh at the fables of La Fontaine, enjoy the rooftop view... AMAZING. Go before all the tourists return!

(Translated by Google) Splendid jewel of the Portuguese artistic and religious historical heritage in the heart of Alfama. Founded in 1147 and renovated in the mid 1500s, it is beautifully preserved. 12th century cisterns for water collection, beautiful blue and white azulejos. Vestments, history and tombs of the various bishops and patriarchs who have succeeded in Lisbon. From the tower and the roof you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city and the Tejo. The visit is recommended € 5 well spent. Children free. (Original) Splendido gioiello del patrimonio storico artistico e religioso portoghese nel cuore dell'Alfama. A very beautiful monastery. I chose the evening time so that there would be few visitors. I walked through the empty rooms and courtyards of the monastery enjoying the silence and beautiful architecture. I really liked the observation deck. Ceramic tiles are incredibly beautiful. You can look at it for a very long time. ❤️

We paid to go visit the cloisters. We were told we could take photos inside though in some rooms it was prohibited. They should have told us that upfront. Photos allowed in most places. Be sure to climb up to the towers and roof. Free to go inside the main sanctuary.

One of my favorite spots during our trip to Lisbon! I would recommend going on a Tuesday morning. We started at the Santa Clara market around 9:30am and walked around. Then we ventured back to the church, and we saw a small area to the right with beautiful trees and flowers. That’s when we noticed you can enter for a small fee of €5. It was worth every bit!! The inside of the monastery was breathtaking. There were almost no visitors when we were there, and it was almost shocking to explore silently and alone in such a grand space. The tile work is phenomenal and the views at the top are stunning. To be honest I prefer this monastery to the one near Belem tower. Try to go early and do not miss this spot!

Personally my favourite spot in Lisbon. It had a very brief description in my tourist guide and I'm very glad I took the chance to check it out. It's a beautiful church, including the cloisters and the sacristy. There are great views across Lisbon. However the real highlight are the Royal tombs, it's almost a privilege to be able to view their resting place.

Deep in the Alfamba neighborhood, getting there is half the fun. Quick trip up there decorated stairs to look off the roof at the neighborhood and the Tagus. Don't miss the chapel. You can do it in an hour, but need time to get there and back. Not much else to do within a short walk ... Except to get happily lost in the neighborhood.

The church was closed for visitation (22/04/21, it was late in the afternoon and that might be the reason), but the monastery next door is great. After a beatiful sacristy on the ground floor and a great showcase of ceramic tiles with the La Fontaine fables o the 1st floor, the views from the church towers are some of the most amazing I've encountered in Lisbon. Simply Stunning and totally worth the entry fee.

São Vicente de Fora is a beautiful church in Lisbon, Portugal, with a stunning rooftop terrace that offers breathtaking views of the city. The church was built in the 16th century and features intricate Baroque and Renaissance architectural details both inside and outside. The rooftop terrace is definitely a highlight of a visit to São Vicente de Fora. From there, you can admire panoramic views of Lisbon's historic center, including landmarks like the Castelo de São Jorge, the Tagus River, and the red rooftops of the city's charming neighborhoods. Aside from its impressive architecture and views, São Vicente de Fora is also home to an important collection of Portuguese tilework, or azulejos. The church's interior walls are covered with beautiful blue and white tiles that depict religious scenes and historical events. Overall, São Vicente de Fora is a must-see attraction for visitors to Lisbon who are interested in history, architecture, and culture
