I booked a 6-Hour personal tour for my second day in Lisbon. I was traveling alone and figured this would give me the most well rounded and organized perspective on the city - the best bang for the buck. I met Kleiber in the morning and immediately was impressed. This was no cookie-cutter tour experience. It felt like I was walking around town with an old friend. I cannot recommend this tour outfit enough. He was even kind enough, when our time was up, to make sure I knew where to catch the tram for my next adventure as well as giving recommendations on dinner for the evening. Next time I’m in Portugal I’ll be calling upon HiLisbon for more insights and in-depth local info. I highly recommend!

I had the pleasure of doing all three of the walking tours. They were really good , both guides shared their passion and enthusiasm for the city with interesting stories you do feel you know more about Portuguese history , culture and food . The alfama tour was a highlight you need a local to show you around all its small narrow streets it’s the best way to see this beautiful part of the city. For history buffs the Belem tour is a must as you learn so much about the age of discovery. A really great way to spend an afternoon in a great city. Thanks !

What a wonderful walk to Alfama with Anne! She had very lovely stories about the area and it was an awesome experience overall. The locals were setting up the decorations for June already (we went there at the end of May). It was very nice to try ginjinha with chocolate cups from Alice, her ginjinha was my favorite I tried in this city! We were also very lucky to come across a fado artist while walking in the small streets of Alfama.

The tour was really interesting and fun, specially because of the guide Kleiber. He was very nice and helpful and gave as very good piece of advice. I would recommend doing this tour upon arrival to Lisbon in order to grasp the context of the city.

We signed up for the 11:30 am tour of braixa. JOSÉ was a great source of information - by far the best tour guide we have had in Portugal. His English is fabulous! And he obviously loves history. We ask a lot of questions and he had knowledgeable answers for all of them. We loved the tour so much signed up for his afternoon tour. The afternoon tour started at 3:30pm and to took us to the older part of Lisbon. Another fabulous tour. This was a great introduction to Lisbon. The rest of our time in Lisbon we felt like pros and could navigate the streets and public transportation. Make sure you sign up for the tour in advance of the start time. Jose said they will sometimes cancel tours if there are less than 4 people signed up.

Really enjoyed the free walking tour of Baixa-Chiado with the wonderful Sara. I’ve been on other free walking tours in various locations around the world, and this tour was definitely one of the best; mainly thanks to Sara - she’s passionate, articulate, and informative, but never boring! She has so much energy, and a brilliant sense of humour. 2.5hrs flew by in no time. At the end of the tour she took our emails and sent the group a list of recommendations, which I thought was lovely. Thank you for a wonderful tour.

Highly recommend this tour to those who first arrived to Lisbon. Walter was a great guide, a great story teller and did the exciting introduction to Portugal history for such a short duration. Walter's vivid narration style makes you involved the whole tour! As a bonus Walter advised the authentic places to eat, provided shortcuts and some handful tips. Very good trip to start your aquantence with Lisbon!!!

I’m happy to have had a tour around Belém with Walter! It was a very good introduction to the golden age and a comfortable walk. We even managed to get some pasteis!

She does an amazing job in really submerging you into the Portuguese culture. Great sense of humor, knowledgeable, patient, and full of tips. She made us feel welcomed, It was an absolutely delightful experience. 1000% recommend.

The Alfama and Mouraria tour was amazing! Sara is a great guide and explains things with such a pasion that you get into the story. We got to know the essence of the Bairro de Alfama and learned about history, literature, fado, saudade, food and wine.

AnnElisa was an awesome tour guide. The tour takes you through some of the most famous spots in Lisbon: the Santa Justa lift, the famous church with no roof, and gives a fantastic introduction to the city. I went with my boyfriend and we only planned to be in Lisbon for about 2 days, so this is a great activity to do on your first day to help get acclimated to the city and learn about some of its hidden history. I would highly recommend whether you are a solo traveller, a couple, a family, or anything in between!

This was an amazing history tour! Some are drawn out and boring after a while but this was not that at all! Our guide, Walter, was so animated and knowledgeable he kept me captivated the whole time. The history of Lisbon is extremely interesting and he presented it in a fun way plus gave us great tips and recommendations for the rest of our stay. I would definitely recommend this tour!

Joined 2 Lisbon city tours with Jose and Ann-Elisa. They are both great and knowledgeable. Also they would share what to eat/do in the city of Lisbon, really is a time-saver for people who know little about the city like me! During the tour they both introduced the city in detail and were able to answer nearly every question that the tourgoers might have! I was really glad I booked the tours and can guarantee that you will not regret to join the walking tour with them!!

We went on a walking tour of Alfama with Sara as our tour guide and it was wonderful! The tour was the perfect amount of tips, stories, anecdotes, and history. Sara's passion and humour made the tour 10000% more engaging and enjoyable. We enjoyed it immensely and recommend for anybody coming to Lisbon!

Had a lovely time on the free walking tour from Rossio exploring the Alfama neighbourhood. It was my first full day in the city and it helped me orient myself not only geographically but also in terms of understanding the history of the city. Our guide was lovely and the group had really nice people.

  • 5/5 Lily Elisabeth F. 10 months ago on Google
Sara was a great guide with fun stories to tell and an energizing personality - which comes in handy when going up the hill to reach the castle. We learnt a lot about the history of Lisbon, especially about the Alfama district. We would definitely recommend doing a tour with Sara.

We visited many cities, and we always enjoy the tours organized by locals who not only know stories about the city, but also know where to eat and drink and what are the best places to visit. The tour guided by Sara was one of the best tours of any city that we ever had. Sara is knowledgeable, professional and funny. Her tour was so interesting that we did not realize how fast the 2.5 hours have passed. We could have continued for another couple of hours... Sara is honest and frank and her recommendations are spot on.

We went on this tour with Sara, who was fantastic. She is so passionate in how she shares her stories of these lovely two neighbourhoods. She has a way of keeping her group interested throughout the tour with her insight into the history, the characters and her obvious knowledge of the areas. We visited many side streets that we had to ourselves, seeing sights you'd rarely see on the main streets. We went on eighteen tours during our visit to Portugal, and Sara's tour was by far the best. It was the only tour that we were on that had everyone clapping for her at the end of the tour. As I said to my wife "It's too bad the tour was only 2.5 hrs", as the time seemed to just fly by. You will enjoy Sara!

We really enjoyed our tour with Sophie! We booked the "Alfama & Mouraria Tour" online, the meeting point is really close to the city centre. We saw lots of great buildings, nice streets and even several lookout points with great views of the city. Sophie told us many interesting information and gave us really nice recommendations concerning restaurants, Fado places etc. We would like to do another tour from Hi Lisbon Walking Tours when we come back to Lisbon. Thanks a lot!

We recently joined a Free-Walking-Tour in Lisbon with Sarah, and it was absolutely wonderful. Sarah is not only friendly and humorous, but she also explains everything in a way that's clear and easy to understand. I would happily join her tour again and highly recommend it to others. A truly memorable experience!

Walter, our guide, is a legend or at least he will be. WOW! We expected a fun few hours with a tour guide and, once we met Walter, we got so much more than that! We really felt like we got an amazing history of Portugal and a true local experience. He is a great guide and his knowledge of Lisbon and Portuguese history is unparalleled. We were captivated by his every word. He also showed us how to navigate other parts of the city without him and he’s also a super fantastic and fun guy. If he weren’t booked, we would have booked him for the rest of the week!!

Sara, our leader, explained the history of Portugal and other historical points of interest when we stopped at sites. Her narratives were informed. In addition, she had a great sense of humor and really watched over each and every one of us. The walk, itself, was delightful. We would not have appreciated the importance of the Alfama district and stops if we had done the walk ourselves. I highly recommend Hi Lisbon and Sara as your guide.

Kileb was a fantastic tour guide! So much passion for Lisbon and an incredible amount of amazing knowledge. We were delighted with the old tour as we got to see the Almafa neighbourhood and find out so much about the culture of the city. He also gave us great recommendations for food which we did straight after the tour and was our favourite meal of the trip! Highly recommend! Thank you!!

  • 3/5 Joceline L. 1 year ago on Google
I thought the tour was good- not great or amazing. The tour guide made me feel uncomfortable for being solo. She was surprised that I was alone and then throughout the tour she kept saying ‘everyone has their partner?’ It made me feel very awkward.

We did a walking tour of Baixa Chiado with Sara and a lovely group. She gave us an excellent tour of the area and was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Thank you Sara for a great walking tour! I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone spending a few days in Lisbon.

Oh my, Sara was beyond great. She offered a view of Portugese history, with wonderful anecdotes about the colorful figures in the country's past. Full of enthusiasm! Entertained all sorts of questions from us. Her descriptions of the Alfama neighborhood, particularly of the role of women, helped bring the notion of close-knit Lisbon communities to life. She was terrific!

  • 5/5 Paul O. 2 years ago on Google
Great walking tour around a beautiful city. We did the Baixa/Chiado tour and having the history to back up the sights was brilliant. Kleiber was very welcoming, engaging and answered any questions. The pace was perfect, even considering the hilly nature of the city. We were also delighted to be able to help a local company. Would definitely recommend if you only have a short time in the city.

Bloody brilliant!!! This is not my first walking tour with Hi Lisbon but this time my partner and I went on not only 1 but 3 walking tours. They didn't offer anymore and that is the only reason we didn't go on more. On our first tour we went to Belem and we had the lovely, energetic and knowledgable Sara as our guide. We both enjoyed her guiding so much that we asked what other tours she was doing and instantly joined her Baixa-Chiado tour that afternoon. I had been on this tour before but she even gave me new insights into this beautiful and historic city. After the tour we knew we had to do the last one that was offered, Alfama and Mouraria, with Sara as well. This tour was a much bigger group but Sara was brilliant and even made sure to come to us through out to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We were sure to recommend her to others and we only heard fantastic feedback from everyone we spoke to. I am sure there are other brilliant guides at Hi Lisbon but if you have the option go with Sara and tell her we sent you!!! Cheers Sara for making our time in Lisbon so much fun!!!

I enjoy walking tours in general, but this one was particularly good! Sara (the guide) loves the city, shared many good stories and we had a great time with her.

After having participated in the wonderful Alfama tour with José, I decided to book my next tour through Belem. It has been so different but nevertheless outstandingly amazing! Our tour guide, Sara is such a wonderful person with so much passion in her heart. You notice that she loves what she is doing and she is indeed doing an amazing job. Belem is a hard tour due to many, many historical facts and complex stories that have to be told to understand the architecture, the monuments and to get to know all the background that makes you understanding why Belem is what it is today. She always made sure that everyone can follow her, answered all the questions and even gave us very, very personal recommendations, such as her favorite Fado café. I can just highly recommend you to book a tour, or maybe even two, at HiLisbon! It was definitely one of my Lincoln Highlights.

  • 5/5 Anna L. 1 year ago on Google
The best way to start your trip in Lisbon! Our guide, Sophie, was very engaging and her tour was very professional!

Jose is a wonderful guide that has a great balance between history, culture, local life. He was very informative in a practical way, we were always in full attention to him. Everything was interested, did not get bored at all. It felt as if we wanted to get more time with Jose. His tour of the old parts of Lisbon is just great. I'm sure that the other tours he offers are wonderful. Highly suggest that you book a tour with Jose, you'll love it, he's a great guide.

Walking tours are the best way to see a city when you first arrive. I did all three tours (Biaix-Chiado, Alfama & Mouraria and Belem) and all were great. If I hadn’t liked the first one I would not have done the other two. I cant say enough good things about the guides (Kleiber, Ricardo and Chiara), all were excellent and Chiara takes a brilliant photo!!! Highly recommend this company and doing their tours!!!!!
