Beautiful church built over the birthplace of St. Anthony of Padua (also known as St. Anthony of Lisbon). Parts of the house are preserved underneath the church, and you can visit them through the crypt (free of charge). I went for a weekday evening Mass and after the service was invited (in English) to go see the altar built over the spot where it is believed St. Anthony was born. There is a mural done in the azulejo style of Pope John Paul II's visit to this site that you can see while walking through the crypt. There is also a gift shop adjacent to the sacristy, with a wide selection of religious articles and literature in various languages. In addition to all this, the relica of St. Justina of Antioch (4th century martyr) are housed in this church. If you are in Lisbon even only for a little while, would highly recommend coming to see this special spot of Christian history.

This patron Saint has a special significance in our family, as we were married and both our kids baptized in his Church in our hometown Belgrade, Serbia. Therefore, every time I'm in Lisbon (and this was my third time) I pay my respects here visiting this beautiful Baroque Church. Lisbon's San Antonio is set at the foot of Alfama oldest part of town, just steps before the oldest Se Cathedral. It's a classic Baroque 18c Church (rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, the original dates back to 15c) on the place where St. Anthony was born in 1195, marked with the crypt beneath the Church ground level. Beside is a plaque of Pope John Paul II visit.

Beautiful church built on the site of St. Anthony's place of birth (his family house). Inside the church, you can go to the basement and visit his birthplace. Within the church, you have a museum with religious objects and also an exhibition of St. Anthony's figures. One of the most important church to visit while in the city.

The “Igreja de Santo Antônio de Lisboa” is located next to “Catedral da Sé”, one of the most iconic building in the city. It is situado in the beginning of the “bairro alto” and is easily accessible by tram (highly recommended trip, by the way) You can visit the interior to see its wonderful architecture and very peaceful atmosphere.

Such a beautiful church and such a nice parish, with very welcoming people and a very nice mass and homily. I enjoyed visiting St. Anthony's birthplace and learning about the history of his origin. The parishioners are incredibly nice and the altar and religious art are breathtaking in every sense. It is located in a lively area in the Alfama neighborhood with easy access to cable cars, shops and restaurants. A must see.

Great example of architecture with a dome as well as being the birthplace of Saint Anthony. Much better to step into than the Cathedral next to it.

Tucked away and well worth the visit Do visit this cathedral as the ceiling is worth checking out. Good - We decided to embark on a tour based on a trip advisor review. We may have taken a wrong tour and ended up at the cathedral. The sight itself is really beautiful. There are a number of small chapels inside and the art work is really impressive. My favorite was the ceiling. It is absolutely stunning and made it worth our visit (see photograph). Bad - Watch out for traffic if you plan on walking here. The cathedral is situated in a corner and there is blind spot. Lookout for cars and trams coming at high-speed. There is no wheel chair/stroller ramp for disabled and families with infants/toddlers.

It’s the birth place of Saint Anthony! It is also where relic is being kept here for pilgrims to witness. Don’t forget to get the special St. Anthony’s rosary beads at the souvenir store if you want to conduct a 13-day Novena to St Anthony… psst, fun fact: my local tour guide told us that St Antonio is also a match maker…….

The Church of Saint Anthony of Lisbon (Portuguese: Igreja de Santo António de Lisboa) is a Roman Catholic church located in Lisbon, Portugal. It is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Lisbon (also known in the Christian world as Saint Anthony of Padua). According to tradition, the church was built on the site where the saint was born, in 1195. The church is classified as a National Monument.

Nice and beautiful church dedicated to Saint Anthony. Church is very nice and entrance to church is free. This church is close to Lisbon Cathedral. Very nice place to visit. Even you can visit entire church. You can go downstairs as well. You can take mini tram or TukTuk to go here.

Tip: If you go on a Sunday be aware that the Church has Mess Every hour. So you can get inside the church only when the ness have ended. Another tip: if you want to buy San Antonio real responsory’s (like his specific rosary 📿 prayer set) buy in inside the church. The little store is inside the church ⛪️ towards San Antonio Cripta. Be aware they only open this little shop also during the time there is no mess. Bring only cash because the little San Antonio Church shop they don’t take credit cards.

It's a church which you wouldn't go if you didn't know that the saint Anthony, the patron of Lisbon was born here. Its very interesting and a beautiful church. A place where you can find some peace in the touristy city. They also have a toilet and a shop for people looking for a souvenir of the saint. The priest even gave us his blessing as well as the blessing for the little souvenir of st. Anthony which we bought for one euro each. It is a great place for people who are religious but as well for people who want to understand a bit more about lisbon and the culture.

Another example of a really well-preserved church in Lisbon. There's also a back room with a small shop. If you continue past the shop inside the church, there's some steps going down to a small shrine downstairs. Be aware that if you are there on the weekend, there is a service going on; so try not to disturb the regular congregation attending.

This is the birthplace of Saint Anthony de Padua. We were blessed to be able to attend mass and also visit the actual birthplace below the church. A must visit for Catholics when in Lisbon.

Free church to observe, with a gift shop to the side. There’s a secondary room past this with relics and tiled walls - very beautiful! Big sign when you enter asking for silence at all times & I don’t believe you can enter when service is happening.

On the outside, a modest and understated church with two towers and a simple, discreet façade with a slightly decorated pediment, but on the inside it was truly rich and surprising. In the chancel part of the small nave you can see a real marvel - a gilded retablo (altar, with a rather complex decorative composition), in the center with a statue of St. Anthony with a child in his arms. There is also a colorful collection of tile tiles (azulejo) and beautiful eighteenth-century pictorial canvases. The entrance to the church from the side facade, here you can buy a ticket for 3 euros and visit this church and afterwards a small museum where the most interesting archaeological and ethnographic finds are on display.

Beautiful church with carvings and paintings. Very peaceful place. Try to visit when Mass is not on. Shop on right after the entrance. Turn left on entering second door. This door leads to another shop with items associated with images of St.Anthony. Go through the next room. Turn right and here you will find a kneeler facing the relic bones of St. Anthony. Outside in the square there is a metal statue of the Saint. Candles can be purchased in the church shop and lit underneath. Beside this there is a museum (€3) dedicated to the life and culture of the Saint.

The St. Anthony Church is a relatively larger church, however, for Europe, especially Lisbon, it is medium sized. With the ancient history that comes with it, it becomes quite a unique monument. That history being, the fact that the only saint Anthony was believed to have been born in the church. The architecture inside it is very beautiful. The archetuire and engineering of the church also allow for it to be huge like many of the European churches. It is insane they were able to build this in the old times when they did without equipment. I would highly recommend you visit.

This church was built where St. Anthony was born. The church was surprisingly small, the facade unassuming but well-maintained. There is a relic in the church basement where devotees can bring their petitions, but the staircase leading to it is cramped. If you're in Lisbon already, make time to visit this church to ask for the saint's intercession.

(Translated by Google) Near the Sé of Lisbon, is the Igreja de Santo António, built in the exact place where the saint was born. It is one of the most important monuments of the city, both for visitors and for the Lisbonese, who in this place reveal the devotion to their patron saint. The church was built in 1767, based on a design by the architect Mateus Vicente de Oliveira, in a neoclassical style. Inside, the paintings by Pedro Alexandrino and sculptures, in particular the wooden image of Saint Anthony, on the main altar are worthy of note. In the sacristy, the polychrome azulejos covering of the Real Fábrica do Rato, dating back to the early nineteenth century, stands out.
